An elegant remedy for makeup ruts
There’s just no getting around the simple fact that the vast majority of women in the world will never leave the house without makeup on. In a comprehensive survey authorized by well-known Harley Street beauty clinic Specialist Makeup Services, the average British woman will spend around 474 days of her life putting on cosmetics. This further breaks down into three hours and 19 minutes of applying makeup every week. The same survey also revealed that most British women take up to 17 minutes just preparing the eye area. Thankfully, a woman’s makeup routine doesn’t have to be so time-consuming all the time.
Makeup Bingo is a clever variation of Wardrobe Bingo, which is widely hailed as a fantastic solution for getting over style ruts and fashion funks. Instead of clothes, Makeup Bingo players must gather five items from categories such as foundation, lipstick, blush, and eyeliner/mascara/eye shadow. Much like Wardrobe Bingo, the entire point of Makeup Bingo is to occasionally shake things up a bit and maybe discover some surprising combinations. Simply put, it’s supposed to be a fun diversion. This same concept of fun can also be seen in modern-day TV ads from online bingo companies. Leading UK portal, CheekyBingo has even collaborated with the Frontroom creative agency to help the brand stand out through catchy TV ads for their fashion-centric promos and giveaways. Moreover, the same online bingo brand recently gave away £50 shopping vouchers through its Twitter account to lure in the female demographic. They also welcome pictures from their Twitter followers whenever there are celebrity fashion gatherings or followers have engaged in games of Makeup Bingo. The brand, retweets there followers submissions on a daily basis, and sometimes give out prizes for the most lubricious Makeup Bingo pictures.
So if you want to enjoy the game, on the whole, the rules of Makeup Bingo are pretty simple. After assembling all the makeup items from each category, label each item from 1 to 5 (or B-I-N-G-O, if you prefer). Players will then draw numbers (or letters) at random to eventually come up with some startling mashups. All told, Makeup Bingo allows players to look at their cosmetics in a different light.
Lancôme has been on point with its skincare game lately, with its serums in particular. First the amazingness that is Visionnaire and now the new DreamTone, a customized skin tone correcting serum. When DreamTone was first launched, I was definitely curious about it but not for the right reasons. I thought it was a tinted-moisturizer/serum hybrid of sorts since it comes in Fair, Medium and Dark. DreamTone is not a tinted-moisturizer; let’s get that part straight so you don’t make the same assumption I did. I was unsure of which shade to choose because I didn’t understand the product enough. What DreamTone really is, is a powerful serum you can use to target those areas of concern with your skin.
It all starts with the three options offered in Fair, Medium and Dark. Each option targets dark spots and uneven skin tone but each one targets an additional concern. For Fair, DreamTone sets its sight on redness. For Medium, DreamTone combats sallowness. Finally, Dark fights acne and blemish marks. For best results, you should use DreamTone morning and night under your moisturizer of choice.
It is never too early to start an anti-aging regime and there’s a new anti-aging skincare line named LifeCell about preventing, reducing and erasing those pesky signs of aging. The line is composed of four products: LifeCell Anti Aging Treatment ($189), LifeCell Under-Eye Treatment ($79), LifeCell PH Balanced Cleanser ($29) and Anti Aging Supplement ($59).
LifeCell Anti Aging Treatment started it all, is light reflective cream that blurs away imperfections as it treats the skin. For those of us with dark uder eyes or puffiness, the Under-Eye Treatment, the metal tip instantly helps depuff the area and glides along the skin. LifeCell’s PH Balanced Cleanser was created from the high demand for a cleanser to compliment the treatment. It’s gentle and is a great foundation for the treatment itself. Finally the supplements, help your skin from the inside out with a combination of hyaluronic acid, collagen and resveratrol.

For this week’s Mani Monday, I went with Butter London’s Classic & Bright Nail Polish Trio. QVC asked me if I wanted to join them this month in celebrating #QVCManiMonday and I just couldn’t resist.
This trio retails for $28 plus shipping and handling and includes three full sized Butter London shades in Royal Navy (a rich opaque navy blue), Cheeky Chops (a bright yellow cream) and Teddy Girl (an opaque bubble-gum pink). The formula on each of these shades flows nice and easy onto the nail. Royal Navy is so rich you could almost get away with one coat (which I did in the image below) but the other shades benefit from another coat to nix streaking.
Keep reading to see the look I created plus more information on entering my giveaway so you can get your own trio!
Stop the presses! My mind was blown this weekend when I discovered that the fine folks at Clarisonic were releasing a new tool, the Clarisonic Pedi Sonic Foot Transformation. I’ve struggled with dry, cracked heels for years now and I have tried almost every single foot file out there, even splurging on the infamous Dimancel files, and countless cracked heel creams. It wasn’t until I tried a prescription foot cream that I was finally able to gain the upper hand in my pedi situation. This tool piques my interest and gives me hope that I can keep the upper hand in my pedi situation. Good thing sandal weather is coming to a close!
The set retails for $199 and includes:
- White Pedi Device
- Pedi Smoothing Disc
- Pedi Wet/Dry Buffing Brush Head
- Pedi-Buff Sonic Foot Smoothing Treatment (6 oz.)
- Pedi-Balm Sonic Foot Softening Treatment (3.5 oz.)
- Pedi-Boost Sonic Foot Renewal Treatment (1 oz.)
- USB-Enabled Universal Voltage pLink® Charger
The device has 3 speeds, an adjustable time and is safe for use in the shower or the bathtub. The device itself is intriguing but what I am interested in is the treatments. The smoothing treatment features lactic acid, the same ingredient found in some of my favorite foot creams, as well alpha hydroxy acids to help slough away dead skin. The softening treatment is all about hydrating those poor tired feet with shea butter, apricot oil and honey. The renewing peel treatment goes a step further to get rid of dead skin cells with a lactic and glycolic acid combo. This is all music to my ears, I kid you not.
For the time being, the Clarisonic Pedi Sonic Foot Transformation is available exclusively online. I have a birthday coming up, I think my family should pay attention! Are you intrigued?

I am not really a nail applique gal, I haven’t been able to master them no matter how hard I try. This is why nail appliques really haven’t done it for me for awhile now. That is until these new Revlon by Marchesa 3D Jewel Appliques stopped me dead in my tracks at my local Fred Meyer tonight. These limited edition appliques are inspired by Marchesa’s own gowns are available in 8 different designs retailing for $9.99 a set.
I borrowed this image from Revlon’s website but really, it doesn’t do these appliques justice at all. They are gorgeous and wearable works of art, I’m obsessed. My favorite design is 24K Brocade, it has a robins egg blue background with a raised gold brocade design.
Marchesa has collaborated with beauty brands in the past, a few years ago they had a gorgeous albeit pricey capsule collection with Le Métier de Beaute but none of it was as memorable to me as these appliques are. I appreciate Marchesa’s collaboration with Revlon, it brings their point of view down to a much more affordable price points and makes it more accessible than ever.
Every time I see an Essence display in my local drugstore beauty isle, something takes over me and I am possessed with this need to buy everything in sight. Essence may be one of the most underrated drugstore brands out there and I think that needs to come to an end…now! Yesterday I exhibited some self-restraint and only walked away with a few nail polishes and some nail art tools, this Essence Colour & Go nail polish in Grey-t to be Here being one of them. At just $1.99 a bottle, I couldn’t pass them up.
Grey-t to be Here is a blue-ish grey with copper micro glitter that peeks out in the sunlight. The formula is thin and very easy to work with, this is thanks in part to the wide brush that helps spread the well pigmented shade easily. Two thin coats gave me bottle color and dried pretty quickly without surface texture. It looks as though it has a bit of texture and gives a moderate amount of shine, but using your favorite top coat helps with that.
I love this shade and am already planning a little nail art to play off of the copper in this shade, maybe a little OPI Casino Royale chevron action on the tips. A little FYI, Essence has great nail art tools if you’re just starting to play with nail art like I am. Stripping brush? Check. Peel off base coat? Check!
What’s on your nails right now?
Finally, we come to the CHI Smart Volumizing Styling Iron and Sarah Potempa Beachwaver Rotating Curling Iron part of our Best Hair Tools test drive for the QVC Customer's Choice Beauty Awards. Voting ends tonight so if you're a fan of any of the products we've covered today, show the brands some love and vote. The winners will be revealed online throughout the day on October 17 and on air during a special show from 9pm–Midnight ET. A lot of my favorites are nominated, are yours?
A styling iron is just an essential these days and CHI is one of the best brands on the market making flat irons, they are one of the originals. A CHI is iconic really, I remember a CHI styling iron being a tool that only stylists had because they were so expensive. Thankfully they are accessible to everyone thanks to a more affordable price tag… and the occasional Easy Pay offer on QVC. Then we have a new twist on the traditional curling iron, one that makes curling your hair less of a challenging task. I say this being one of those women who has always struggled with curling my hair and making it look GOOD. Now beach worthy waves are easier than ever.
Now lets talk blow dryers, specifically the T3 Featherweight 2 High Performance Hair Dryer and the Drybar Blowout In-a-Box Hair Dryer. These were the next set of tools QVC sent us for our Best Hair Tools category test drive.
Both of these drastically cut down dry time and left our hair looking less frizzy and healthier than your average blow dryer found in the aisles of your favorite drugstore. Granted, it comes with a much bigger price tag but we think the benefits and time saved in the morning make that cost totally justifiable… and absolutely worth it. Kayla and I tested both of these blow dryers and quickly came to realize why each one is nominated for a QVC Customer's Choice Beauty Award.
