My nails are badly in need of some professional attention right now but I’m trying to hide that with some color since I haven’t had a chance to get to the salon just yet. This week my helper is Zoya Paloma.
Paloma is part of the Zoya NYFW 2012 Gloss collection, it is one of three jelly finish shades in the collection. As a jelly lover, I was excited to see Zoya focus on jellies. Frida and Katherine, the other gals in the collection, are deep teal and plum jellies. As for Paloma, she is a deep berry in the bottle but on the nail is a beautiful raspberry. I loved that I only needed 2 coats to get the opacity that I wanted so it fairly well pigmented for a jelly. There is still a hint of my nail lines visible but the rich, syrup like finish is very much there.
What’s on your nails this week? Tell us all about it in the comments! And by the way, there’s still time for Zoya’s Back to School BOGO!
Oh, have we got something good in store for you. The scoop on BECCA Ultimate Colour Gloss, the brand spanking new launch of lip colors (or colours) making a move for your makeup bag this fall. How to appropriately summarize the Ultimate Colour Gloss? We think spectacular feels about right. They are smooth and shiny. Longwearing and weightless. And one coat gives you deep color. Yeah, it’s basically the perfect gloss. As a bunch, the seven available shades make one enviable lip wardrobe. Miami Vice is a peachy nude that is perfect for everyone, Malibu Punch a fresh and bright tangerine, Hotel California a raspberry red and – my personal favorite — the deep berry Hummingbird.
Summer time memories are some of the strongest. For me, the summer of 2012 will always be known as the summer I discovered TATCHA skincare. I’ve been in a pretty committed relationship with the Japanese skincare regimen inspired by ancient rituals passed down from one generation of geisha to the next. TATCHA launched the skincare line last year after rediscovering a 200 year-old manuscript filled with rituals and ingredients from traditional Eastern beauty regimes. In this modern version, TATCHA formulated the line with precious green teas, Okinawa red algae and rice bran. Living like a geisha feels and looks good on the skin, let me make that point very clear!
TATCHA’s regime, available in several varieties based on skin type, includes:
Step one: TATCHA PURE Camellia One Step Cleansing Oil ($48) is hands down the best cleansing oil I’ve ever used. It’s unique in the sense that you truly don’t need to “double cleanse.” Two pumps of the cleansing oil, which does its magic with rice brain oil, camellia japonica seed oil, algae extract and green tea leaf extract, removes everything and leaves no residue behind. The texture is perfection.
Step two: TATCHA POLISHED Classic Rice Enzyme Powder ($65) is a fabulous cleanser that doubles as a gentle exfoliator. It’s ideal for clean, makeup-less faces. You start with a wet face and wet hands and a few shakes of the powder and and it turns into this silky formulation. The active enzymes include rice bran and papaya and hydrolyzed pearl. Skin is immediately gleamy and baby-soft. I LOVE this stuff.
Step three: TATCHA RADIANT Deep Brightening Serum ($150) is a hydrating serum that brings geisha-like luminosity to skin. TATCHA formulated this with time-tested Asian botanicals, making this truly unique. It feels like liquid silk and skin drinks it up instantly.
Step four: TATCHA SUPPLE Moisture Rich Silk Cream ($150) pampered my skin on all of those hot summer nights. I’m convinced this moisturizer, which is as silky and creamy as the name would indicate, helped restore balance to my skin with its weightless power combo of liquid silk, squalane and royal jelly.
One thing is for sure: this is a summer romance that will continue into the next season.
Kiehl’s released some very thrilling news: the Rosa Arctica line will welcome two new members this September, Rosa Arctica Lightweight Cream and Rosa Arctica Eye. These two products were inspired by the incredible demand for the original Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Cream introduced in 2011. We couldn’t be more excited — this is our FAVORITE Kiehl’s moisturizer, it even snagged a prime spot in our Top 11 of 2011, and Kiehl’s President Chris Salgardo revealed to us last year that he is partial to it as well!
Like the classic formula, these new Rosa Arctica varieties harness the power of a rare “Resurrection Flower” to “wake up” skin cells to trigger the physiological reactions resulting in healthier, regenerated and more youthful skin. This miracle flower (official name: Haberlea Rhodopensis) is some biological wonder that can dry out completely and survive periods of dryness for up to 31 months and eventually resume normal growth within hours with only a few drops of moisture.
We love the thick creamy tub of Rosa Arctica, but totally appreciate the need for a lighter version. Here’s the scoop:
- Rosa Arctica Lightweight, $60, features the same benefits of Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Cream, in a lighter texture for those with normal to oily skin, or those who simply prefer a lighter texture.
- Rosa Arctica Eye, $44, is a unique balm formulation that helps provide instant visible results—thanks to mineral brighteners—instant hydration, and revitalizes the appearance of skin in the eye area over time, smoothing crow’s feet and lifting the eye contour area.
What do you think of these? We’ll let you know our thoughts once we try!
Well done, Beauty.com. Their new box of goodies, a.k.a. the Beauty.com Beauty Favorites Box, is a steal at $25. But it’s not one you can snag online at Beauty.com, rather it’s being rolled out in brick and mortar Walgreen’s stores in the Chicago area. For those in my city, you’re welcome! For those elesewhere, Beauty.com is looking into rolling this concept out “in a bigger way” to other cities in 2013 (so says Beauty.com President Kathleen Mcneill in WWD.) The Box includes a full-sized Laura Geller Blush-n-Brighten, Bliss Lemon Sage Hand Cream, Borghese Liquid Eyeliner and more from top brands like Murad, Perricone and Lorac. Oh, and if the $25 wasn’t enough of a deal, Beauty.com threw in a $10 off gift card to use online. The set officially launched this month and will be available while supplies last.
What do you think of Beauty.com’s foray into Walgreen’s stores?
This week’s mani is everything. I can’t remember the last time I got this excited about my polish. Everything about this is amazing. First, the color: MAC Styleseeker, from the “Style Seeker” collection launching this week. Second, the formula: smooth and easy to apply. Third, the finish: a red orange duo chrome.
I’m really picky about my duo chromes. I find so many of them to be the same, usually with purple/green flashes. Nothing wrong with that, sure, just that I’m used to it. Styleseeker is so interesting, and reminds me of a hot fall day. When the leaves are red/orange and crinkly but the weather is still summer-like. If you’re crafting your fall nail polish wardrobe, as we are, I think you need this color in it.
Somehow, my excitement over my mani has turned this Monday into a great one! Hope everyone’s week is starting off the same. What are you wearing on the tips this week?
MAC Styleseeker, coming to counters August 23, and online now for $15.
Ombre nails are where it’s at right now. We love this trend, and are excited that it’s the focus of our newest video with Revlon. There are a few ways to approach the ombre nail. We’ve done the one color with white polish — and it can be messy for sure — or you can use five different shades in the same color family. Revlon sent us five shades of Revlon® Nail Enamel for the ombre look. Lightest to darkest from left to right we used:
- Pink Chiffon
- Posh Pink
- Fuchsia Fever
- Plum Seduction
What do you think?
We’re giving away a bottle of Revlon Nail Enamel to 10 Product Girl readers. To enter, leave a comment on this post! We’ll pick winners on Wednesday, August 22.

The newest BB cream to hit the American market comes courtesy of our beloved Bobbi Brown. BB creams are true multi-taskers! They prime, treat, conceal, hydrate and protect in one fell swoop and can shave precious minutes off your morning makeup routine.
This BB cream provides sheer to medium coverage that’s so lightweight you almost forget you have it on. It also leaves skin with a nice luminescent glow. The cream has a thinner texture than some of the other BB creams on the market but that’s part of what makes it so much easier to blend. Of course there is also UVA/UVB ray protection in the form of SPF 35. It’s a nice healthy dose of SPF, don’t you think?
It’s no doubt that Urban Decay’s eye shadow palettes are popular in the beauty community. They’ve got a knack for design some amazing palettes from their book of shadows to the infamous Naked and Naked2 palettes. One of my first ever palettes was from Urban Decay (Show Pony palette, love!) and I’ve been hooked on UD since. While their are tons of neutral, everyday palettes, not many brands come out with a “smoked” type palette. I was excited to get my hands on Urban Decay’s Smoked palette and I definitely think this is something everyone could use in their makeup collection.
For $49, you get 10 pigmented and buttery shadows, a travel size Primer Potion, and a full size Perversion eyeliner. It comes in a zip-up package which prevents that fear of your palette every opening. Also inside, an mirror on the inside cover and room to store an eyeliner. Let’s take a closer look at each shade along with swatches.
A few months ago, L’Oreal Paris took to Facebook with a 2012 Hair Color Census. The results are finally in and L’Oréal Paris’ Healthy Look Crème Gloss Hair Color is presenting this infographic with some interesting facts.
What do you think of the results? Are brunettes really more trustworthy? I like to think so.
