What's in Erin's Bag?
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

Now it's Erin from Scandalous Beauty's turn to show us what she's carrying around in her bag.

What's in Erin's Bag

My bag is my little home away from home. It's a Jacobs by Marc Jacobs tote that I bought at the Marc Jacobs accessories store in Soho, NYC last month. Everything is a steal in that tiny little store, I don't remember seeing anything over $50! After you get an amazing cupcake from Magnolia Bakery, you must hit Marc Jacobs!

Take a peek inside:
2008 Planner
Sprint Treo (Which I hate, by the way)
Pen (from MAC Naughty Nauticals Event!)
Wallet

So, let's indulge inside the beauty bag. MAC NC50 Select Cover Up Concealer and MAC Studio Fix NW43 are my staples, I can't seem to live without them! I use the concealer in place of foundation most days. Do you remember MAC Smoke Signals collection last year?? Well, I couldn't get enough, and still can't! I keep half of the collection in my bag, including Ablaze Blush and the Gentle Fume Eyeshadow Quad. NARS Taj Mahal Blush is my all time favorite cheek color, it gives the truly sun-kissed glow that we all love!!! Billy B. Beauty Brush #3 is recycled for my powder, brush and emergency buffing of concealer. His brushes are sooo perfect for travel because they are short-handled!! I didn't realize that I have 3 tubes of mascara, 2 of MAC Zoomlash and Chanel Imitable Mascara! And clearly, there are a slew of lipcolors including MAC Lipcolors in Love Nectar, Style Minx, Hey, Sailor, Viva Glam VI, Swelter and Warm Smile Tendertone. Poor little Becca Lipgloss in Flirtini is all by her lonesome! Wow. I need to clean out my bag! Ciao Bellas!

And that's it, this is the last "What's in Her Bag" post we'll be featuring for now. Thanks for bearing with us! We'll be back to our normal content tomorrow.

What's in Ellen's Bag?
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

Today is the last day of our look into the bags of my fellow beauty beauty bloggers. I've had a lot of fun looking into their bags and I hope you had fun too. Today we're wrapping things up with Ellen from Lipstick, Powder and Paint and Erin from Scandalous Beauty. Let's see what Ellen's carrying...

What's in Ellen's Bag

I am addicted to handbags and am loving this Cole Haan one. It is pretty much my everyday bag for the summer.

These are some not so exciting items that are in my bag every day:
Sunglasses to protect my baby blue peepers
Wallet
Cell phone (it's such an oldie - but it works)
Business card holder - cause you never know you you'll meet
Pen
Listerine Pocket Mist and
My Tylenol Extra Strength - I get migraines all the time.

The fun stuff in my MAC Fafi Makeup Bag:
Chanel Allure Sensuelle fragrance - my absolute favourite in the world!
Guerlain Terracotta Moisturizing Bronzing Powder Long Lasting in Makeup Artist
L'Oreal Paris Infallible Lipgloss in Sangria
Guerlian Gloss in - I have not idea what colour!!
Rimmel Vinyl Stars Mirror Shine Lipgloss in Born to Bling
Lancome Powder Brush
Susan Posnick Colorflo Mineral Foundation with built in brush
Benefit Posie Tint

The "I would be crazy not to bring" stuff:
La Roche-Posay Antherpos - I just recently found out I have sun damage on my lips - yikes!
Travel size Vichy Capital Soleil SPF 60 for my body
Vichy Capital Soleil SPF 30 for my face
My Vichy UV Alarm bracelet that will warn me when harmful UV rays are out to get me!
Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets

Later today we'll be peaking into Scandalous Beauty's bag so check back later this afternoon.

What's in Amber's Bag?
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

What's in Amber's Bag Today we're looking at what is in Amber's bag. Amber is the amazing blogger behind Beauty Blogging Junkie. Not only is her blog fantastic but she has the best Lost recaps ever. Being a Lost gal, I look forward to them every week. Here's what she says...

The bag is a Tory Burch canvas tote gifted to me by L'Oreal when we visited the L'Oreal store in the Beverly Center during the Total Beauty Beauty Tour of LA. I am in LOVE with it. You've caught me at a very edited-down state, makeup-wise. First, I was recently on vaca and so this isn't my typical handbag and second, I am just not feeling makeup in this 95 degree heat we're undergoing in NYC. Here's what Tory is containing lately:

What's in Amber's Bag

  • A Jaqua Treasure Bag - this pink and brown and pink confection is perfect for keeping in your purse.
  • Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Cocoa - this is a preview shade (it's not out yet) I got from Clinique that I am lurving.
  • Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Maximum Coverage Concealer - hides dark circles on the go.
  • MAC Tendertone Lip Balm SPF 12 in Hot N' Saucy saved my life by the pool on my recent sojourn to the Bahamas.
  • Benefit Dr. Feelgood - is the answer to the anti-powder girl's shine issues.
  • Kiss My Face Organic Cranberry Orange SPF 15 Lip Balm - is an odd combo of flavors, but it tastes surprisingly divine.
  • Beauty Rehab Rose Salve - is the anti-pot-balm gal's substitution for Smith's Rose Salve.
  • Nailtiques Cushion Sponge File - I'm lost without this teeny tiny file, which fixes snags in an instant.

Come back tomorrow when we'll be peaking into the bags from the gals at Lipstick, Powder and Paint and Scandalous Beauty to wrap up our What's in Her Bag series.

What's in Jennifer's Bag?
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

It's time to take a look at what Jennifer from Beauty in Real Life is carrying. I'll let her introduce herself.

I'm Jennifer co-editor over at Beauty in Real Life. In addition to being a beauty blogger, I'm also a stay-at-home mom. Here's what's in my bag. The bag was a gift from my husband, from a couple of years back. It's a Louis Vuitton Monogram Multicolore Speedy 30 and it's the pride of my Vuitton collection. Inside I have:

What's in Jennifer's Bag?

  • a brand new Motorola Q 9c that is my first PDA. I cannot believe that I have gone this long without one. Really.
  • a Louis Vuitton wallet that I've had for ages.
  • my husband is a police officer, so that why I have that black id case. Inside it has his badge number and says Officer's Wife underneath it. I love it because I take a little part of him with me wherever I go.
  • Chanel sunglasses that I wear constantly.
  • a black makeup bag from Bobbi Brown...because I draw the line at a makeup bag that costs several hundred dollars.
  • Redpoint Hydraboost Firming Powder compact...amazing, it really looks like you have nothing on.
  • a Chanel La Petite Pinceau makeup brush...I'll use it with the pressed powder.
  • two Chanel Glossimers in Equinoxe and Spark...both sparkly sheer berry colors. Love.
  • a Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss in Buff...goes with mostly everything and gives my a my-lips-only-better color.
  • a Bobbi Brown Lip Tint in Peony..sheer pink. I love the minty smell and the fact it has an SPF of 15.
  • a Tarte Super Fruit Dual Ended Lip Gloss in Dallas and Cherry (part of a set)...love these. The cherry color to me seems to have a bit of a coral thing happening that looks gorgeous on.
  • a Tarte Enbrightenment BriteSmile Whitener & Tarte Lipgloss in Radiant Red. Hands down my favorite of the bunch. The color comes out an absolutely beautiful sheer red. Plus it has a teeth whitener at the other end. What's not to love about that?
  • Aquaphor...great for everything, including a two year old's boo-boos.
  • Sally Hansen Gentle Plumping Lip Treatment in Clear...an essential gloss to carry.
  • Bobbi Brown Lip Balm in SPF 15...another lip product that I can't do without. Perfect for being outside at the playground with my toddler.

I also normally carry a small container of Kiehl's Creme de Corps, a small bottle of hand sanitizer, a packet of Wet Wipes, and a sheer sunblock stick for when I head outside with Little L (my son). You can never be too prepared.

Check back tomorrow, we'll be looking at what Amber from Beauty Blogging Junkie is toting around.

What's in Jazmin's Bag?
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

Today we're looking at what's in Jazmin's bag. She's blogs over at Makeup Moxie and she's got some great product reviews you should check out. Here's Jazmin...

What's in Jazmin's Bag?

You're looking at my well-loved (i.e. regularly abused) Kenneth Cole bag. There are lots of hidden pockets and compartments in it, so there's undoubtedly something lost in there that I didn't include in the photos. And, no, I don't actually keep the Chihuahua in my bag (though he might be able to fit in there). He just likes weaseling his way into pictures.

So here's what's in my bag:

My Coach wristlet holds all my most important must-haves (wallet, phone, keys, lipgloss, gum). That way, if I don't feel like schlepping my whole purse around with me, I can just pull out the wristlet and be on my way. The cute little makeup bag with the hand-embroidered llamas on it is a souvenir that one of my sisters bought for me in Peru. While I don't want to wear it out by using it everyday, I love it and it makes me happy so I use it anyway.

What's in Jazmin's Bag?

Inside the llama bag, I keep my Global Goddess Foundation/Concealer compact, MAC Tendertone Lip Balm, Cargo Mattifier, Neutrogena blotting papers (yep, I'm seriously into oil-control), and a Shiseido eyelash curler (don't tell my Shu Uemura curler that I'm cheating on it when I'm away from home). I also always have my trusty Tweezerman folding lash comb."

Other random stuff in my bag:

  • Netflix DVD's that I've been meaning to return for, like, two weeks. I think the discs in there are the last disc of Rome: Season Two and Glengarry Glen Ross.
  • Rechargeable batteries for my camera (which is also often in my bag)
  • A couple of USB keys with my websites and other files on them
  • A digital security key for my PayPal account
  • Eyedrops (summer in the desert makes my eyes super dry)
  • A couple of cheap pens from the Bellagio and Silverton casinos :)

Tomorrow we'll be showing you what's in Jennifer's bag from Beauty in Real Life.

What's in Cindy's Bag?
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

This morning we're looking at what's in Cindy's bag. Cindy's the gal behind Hello Dollface. Not only does she cover beauty but she also has some funny celebrity commentary that's worth checking out. Let's check out her bag...

What's in Cindy's Bag

"I almost always carry Orbit gum and blow big bubbles. How ladylike!
Blotting Papers for mid-day shine.
Lipgloss, a must have! As well as NARS and Bourjois lipgloss.
Moisturizer for dry skin
A bobby pin, just in case.
Tweezers, in the car is the best place to tweeze!
Ponnytail holder for a windy day.
Blush brush from Stila
Clinique Pore filler, I love this stuff!
An old pan of Maybelline blush.
Rosebud salve for dry cuticles, lips and hands.
Alison Raffaele concealer."

"What's you don't see is receipts from Target, Starbucks, local bagel store and Trader Joes. Arbonne Hand Cream, Burts Bees lip balm, a variety of pens that don't work, a few random dollar bills, coins at the bottom of the purse, more receipts, a few pieces of unwrapped gum, a small notebook and a cell phone."

Check back tomorrow for a look at what Jazmin from Makeup Moxie is packing.

What's in Carleen's Bag?
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

Today we're looking at what's in Carleen's bag. Carleen is the editor Beauty, Fashion and Tech and GirlGloss. Let's see what she says...

"I love this Nine West bag! It is one of those super sale finds that I got at Macy's. I think I paid only $24 for it, when it originally was $100. My husband rolled his eyes over me buying yet another bag, but at least this one was pretty cheap!"

What's in Carleen's Bag

"The contents show just how addicted I am to lip products. I hardly ever carry much makeup, but will have a bag full of gloss and balm! Usually it will be just my favorites, but I have so darn many!" Here's what's inside:

What's in Christine's Bag?
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

We're back with more peaks at what's in the bag of some of our favorite bloggers. This will be our last week for the time being of our What's in Her Bag series and we're starting off the week with Christine from 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic.

What's in Christine's Bag Christine's blog is fantastic but it's her articles on skincare that I've bookmarked for future reference. Here's what she says:

Here it is, my bag. I recently switched from a giant, super heavy Gucci tote to this much smaller YSL that is "meant" to decrease the amount of stuff I carry around. This really was all in that purse, I carried it around all week like this (including a day at Disney), and I really couldn't even close it!

What's in Christine's Bag Inside are my 2 pagers (I work at 2 different hospitals), my phone (thinking of getting a new iPhone when the upgrade comes out, in the meantime I'm lucky this thing still accepts calls), an umbrella, and my two little bags. My mom and her best friend made those for me. They are lined and everything! The little one is the perfect size to hold cards from stores (like my ULTA card) and GCs (which I lose).

What's in Christine's Bag The other one I can barely close! Inside are my medicines (Epipen because I anaphylax to mushrooms, a baggie with tylenol & motrin, plus sudafed and my albuterol), blotting sheets, 3M Lint sheets, Burt's Bees lemon butter cuticle cream, CND Cuticle Eraser, CND Super
Shiney top coat, La mer hand creme, Bobbi Brown touch up palette (it has powder, foundation and concealer in there!), a MAC blotting powder and finally way too many lippies. Those Juicy tubes are 2 of the same color! I have issues! I think that's all of my junk!

We'll be back tomorrow to take a look at what's in Carleen's bag from Girl Gloss and Beauty and Fashion Tech.

What’s in Christina's Bag?
by Christina, filed under Chit Chat

We're coming back with our "What's in Her Bag" series and today I share what's in my bag. I carry several bags throughout the week, depending on what I will be doing, whether I need to carry documents, a book, shoes, lunch, etc. I am in love with my latest slouchy bright red bag by Hayden Harnett. It is so lightweight but can fit just about anything!

Here's what’s inside:

What's in Christina's Bag

The essentials: I wear sunglasses year-round because I am paranoid about developing crow’s feet around my eyes. I actually own a few of these reasonably priced Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses. I also carry my iPod nano, Motorola Krzer phone, some Orbit gum, Kate Spade wallet, and usually a magazine or book. This week, I decided to finally grow up and learn how to pick a wine by its taste instead of how pretty the label is, so I am reading “Wine: A Basic Course” by Tom Forrest.

The makeup: I carry my makeup in this fabulous leopard print cosmetic bag which was actually a Lancome GWP. Dr. Scholl’s Miracle Shield stick prevents blistering and it has been a lifesaver. For makeup touch ups, I carry Clinique’s Line Smoothing Concealer in Light. I have been using this same formula since college and I find it works the best for concealing acne and under eye rings. For a little more coverage, I apply Napoleon Perdis Camera Finish Powder Foundation with my Bare Escentuals Flawless Face brush. I also carry Burt’s Bees Vanishing Facial Tissues to blot any excess oiliness throughout the day. To liven up a matte face, I use DuWop’s DoubleGlow7 under brows and on cheekbones to give a dewy, fresh look. Occasionally, I get dry patches on my face so I’ve been spot-applying Amore Pacific Vitalizing Cream as needed. To keep cuticles neat and moist, I carry Borghese Radiente Brightening Cream. I don’t really want my hands to be brighter but this formula is nice and thick yet not greasy and doesn’t have a strong fragrance, which I really like for every day. In order to keep lips moisturized, I keep about 7 different balms, pots, and sticks at my desk at work but I still carry Korres Guava Lip Butter for a basic touch of moisture. For a fun punch of color, I use a sheer, hot pick colored gloss by Maybelline, called Volume XL Lip Plumper. Its not your typical hot, stingy lip plumper. If you have a keen eye, you’ll notice that I have attached a Bourjois lip gloss charm to my cell phone. Yes, I do feel about 15 years old when someone sees me on my cell phone with a charm hanging from it, but you have no idea how much that gloss has come in handy. Finally, I have been carrying around little sample sized vials of Lavanilla perfumes. I find the different variances of vanilla fragrances to be yummy, clean and refreshing.

We'll be back tomorrow at with a peek at what's in another blogger's bag!

What's in Sara's Bag?
by Sara, filed under Chit Chat

What's in Sara's Bag I hope you guys are loving this feature that Carla has going with taking a peak inside the bags of fellow bloggers and readers- I know I am!

In addition to blogging for Product Girl, I also have my own blog at Bombshell Beauty. Here's what I lug around in my Kathy Van Zeeland bag - a few necessities, a few things even I was surprised to find, and a whole lot of lipgloss. Check it out...

What's in Sara's Bag

  • Old school planner because I'm a really tactile person (I like the whole pen and paper thing as opposed to a Blackberry).
  • Pink Motorola Razr.
  • Mead notebook for making lists and jotting down review ideas for Bombshell Beauty and Product Girl.
  • iPod Nano
  • Cocktail ring from Mark
  • Leather business card holder
  • Pile of receipts from a shopping trip this weekend
  • Target sunglasses
  • Watermelon flavored Dum Dum sucker
  • Savannah Bee Company's Magnolia Hand Lotion
What's in Sara's Bag In my blue and white striped makeup bag (from Bath and Body Works), I carry an insane variety of lip gloss, including: I carry a few other products, too:
  • Stila Eye Shadow in Kitten
  • Mark Eyemarker in Java
  • Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Bisque
  • Visine for Contacts
  • Bliss Manicure's Best Friend

What's in Annie's Bag?
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

What's in Annie's Bag Today is Bellasugar's turn! Annie is Bellasugar's editor and she a great blog, one that I could take a few hints from! We are taking a look at her bag and what's she's got in it. taking a look at what in. Let's see what she says...

"The bag is by Elezar; it was a gift, and I love it because it has good storage space despite its smallish size. So these are the things I have on me 99% of the time."

  • Neutrogena sunblock. Truth be told, I’m not wild about the scent of this stuff, but because it has SPF 70, I use it anyway. I fear the sun. And for as often as I apply and reapply sunblock, it makes sense to have a strong one that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
  • A pair of sunglasses. I alternate between these from Nour and a pair of $5 cheapies from H&M. (See above re: heliophobia.)
  • Bliss Lemon + Sage Body Butter. The formula is hydrating without being too greasy, and it smells wonderful.
  • Ms. Manicure mini emery boards. They’re tiny and useful.
  • Nars sheer lipstick in Dolce Vita. For months, I searched for a cheaper version of this color, but couldn’t find one that I loved as much. Finally I resigned myself to the fact that I won’t be happy with an imitation, and now I drop $23 to have it. It’s that great “your lips but better” shade of rosy pink.
  • What's in Annie's Bag Nars lip gloss in Chihuahua. This is one of those easy-to-wear pinkish nudes that goes with both natural and nighttime looks.
  • Three Custom Color Specialists Lip and Cheek Stain in Ski Bunny. This is so easy to use, and a little dab on the cheeks makes me look glowy and less pallid.
  • Boscia blotting papers. I’m not loyal to this brand (Clean and Clear also makes a great version) but I rely on blotting sheets to reduce shine on my forehead and nose.
  • C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine in Double Chocolate. It’s great for when my lips start to dry out, and it tastes good. I use it a lot when I want to look more polished, but I don’t want to deal with wearing lipstick or gloss.

"I also normally carry YSL Touche Eclat, but I lost it this weekend. Ugh. I like to have that handy when my undereye circles come out to play. It tricks the light into making me look like I’ve just had a disco nap. At $40 it is overpriced, but it makes me look fresher, so it’s a splurge."

by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

What's in Lianne's Bag Today is Lianne's turn! We're looking at her bag and what's got in it. Lianne is the amazing woman behind The Makeup Girl. She's a great makeup artist in the DC Metro area and she's inspired quite a few purchases. When I saw Lianne use Sue Devitt's Eye Intensifier in some of her photos, I ran out and got a few. Here's what she says...

"The bag is by Gucci...it's the Britt Medium tote in patent leather, totally roomy and very "me". It's one of the biggest "bag" purchases I have ever made in my life but it's a classic and I love it. I typically don't keep my keys in my purse (they go in a basket by the door so I always know where they are and my sunglasses (I have many many many pairs) are in the basket too...although I keep a pair in the car in case I forget them in the basket!!!"

What's in Lianne's Bag "In my bag itself I have my iPhone (geek girl!), my makeup bag (leopard from Bath and Body works on sale for $5!) my business card case, my black slim wallet, pacifica solid fragrance, philosophy pure grace roll on fragrance oil and my latest obsession, Orbit Mint Mojito gum (two packs because I can't run out!)."

"The makeup bag is more streamlined than usual:"

Smashbox Function5 Self Adjusting Powder Foundation
Dr, Haushcka Lip Balm
Sharpener
NARS Orgasm/Hustler lip gloss
Philosophy Amazing grace solid fragrance
Tarte Cliff/Claire Lip gloss
NARS the multiple in Orgasm

Today we're looking at what's in Jen from Raging Rouge's bag. Check out her blog, she's got some sneak peeks at what Urban Decay will be launching later this summer. Here's what Jen says:

What's in Jen's Bag?

I purchased this bag for myself during my last pregnancy. In addition to my love for all things beauty, I am quite addicted to bags, shoes and jewelry! This bag certainly ranks as one of my best purchases ever... It was part of Gucci's Cruise Collection that year (2005), but was then kept as a "Classic" for several more years until they finally discontinued selling it in 2007 (selling at almost 50% more than my original purchase price!).

The contents: Various change purses and credit card holders, Kate Spade sunglasses for me and Gymboree sunglasses for my little guy (he's a cool cat), car keys, cell phone and headset, various hair ties, teething biscuits, Wet Ones anti-bacterial wipes, diapers and wipes (not pictured). Finally... on to the makeup!

Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 30: It's a great way to reapply sunblock throughout the day without messing up your makeup. I consider it a must.

But between work and Spoiled Pretty, I only have enough hours left to eat and sleep! The Silom Square Diana Large Hobo was a gift from the designer, Rafe Totengco. He gave it to me to schlepp around my stuff at New York Fashion Week - Fall 2008. It even came with a note, which read "Hi Daneen, Enjoy the bag & blog it out! xoxo, Rafe". Now onto it's contents:

What's in Carla's Bag Today I'm showing you all what's in my bag. My bag is usually a mess but I cleaned it up a bit though, taking all my receipts and empty gum wrappers out. I don't want you all seeing how messy I really am! What you see here is a little more than what I usually carry with me, it really depends on how much time I have in the morning. This morning I had more time than usual so I brought some things to touch up with during the day like the NARS Multiple and Suki lip color. This is the Lane bag in Tabacco and it was a gift from Ruehl No. 925. It really roomy and the leather is really soft... no stiffness here.

What's in Carla's Bag

Now onto what I have in it...

  • I got to have my sunglasses. I use to buy cheap pairs of glasses but for the first time I actually spent more than $15 on a pair.
  • Coach wristlet, because I hate carrying around a big huge wallet. This way I have just the essentials. Plus I use it at the gym to store my keys.
  • My Weight Watchers paraphernalia, my journal, welcome book and point counter.
  • Floss, gum, cell phone, mini notebook, glass nail file and convertible hair brush.
  • Elizabeth Arden's 8 Hour Hand Cream: this stuff is great and helps my hands deal with all the paperwork I have on my desk.
  • Boscia Blotting Linens in Rose.
  • Benefit's Erase Paste (review coming soon).
  • Cargo PlantLove lipstick in Lola.
  • BillyB Beauty brush #9, Bare Escentuals Flawless Face brush and Smashbox brush #19 (thank you eBay!).
  • Sample of Bobbi Brown's Hydrating Face Cream that I'm going to try later.
  • Suki Pure Color Cream Stain in Clay.
  • Dr. Hauschka Lip Care Stick
  • Dr. Hauschka Liquid Concealer
  • Trish McEvoy's Base Essential and Essential Pencil.
  • Laura Mercier
  • Prescriptives Here to Stay Mascara
  • Yves St. Laurent Touche Eclat
  • By Terry Rose Baume Stick
  • Prescriptives Camouflage Cream
  • Bobbi Brown Blemish Cover Stick
  • Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage
  • Revlon Makeup Eraser
  • The Balm Sexy Mama Translucent Pressed Powder, this stuff is great, a review is coming soon!
  • Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Minerals
  • Benefit's Eye Bright
  • Bobbi Brown Lip Crayon
  • NARS The Multiple in Orgasm
  • and Urban Decay's Ink, I'm so sad this is discontinued.

Can you see a pattern here? I don't even use these concealing products all at once but I can't bare to take them out of my bag. The Laura Mercier concealer was an impulse buy I regret but I keep wanting to give it another chance. I might swap it... who knows. There are always a few things I'm testing in my bag as well. The Dr. Hauschka and Benefit concealers are a few of those items.

What's in Your Bag?
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

For the next two weeks, Product Girl is having some fun and showing you what's in our handbags as well as what's in the handbags of some of our beauty blogging friends. Ever see those features in In Style? That's what we're going for here. I always enjoy those features and often create a few lemmings along the way.

We're starting with Elke Von Freudenberg; celebrity makeup artist, blogger and founder of a network we're proud to be a member of, The Beauty Blog Network. So what's in Elke's bag? Here's what she says:

Elke Von Freudenberg's Bag An umbrella, because it might rain in NY.
My favorite white tea (don't ask me why...).
Big black sunglasses.
Business cards.
My wallet.
Note paper for note taking.
Extra lip gloss.

As for the makeup bag, Elke carries these products with her:

Elke Von Freudenberg's Makeup Bag Makeup Forever Eye Shadow in Diamond Shadow
NYC Sparkle Eye Shadow
Be Nail Lacquer in Feigned Innocence
Neutrogena Mineral sheers blush
MAC Lipstick in Barely Lit
Max Factor Vivid Eye Shadow

If you want to show us what's in your bag, just email your photos to me. We'll be featuring a new bag every day so check back with us for this and some Earth Day fare coming soon!

Saturday at Nordstrom
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

Last week, I was really looking forward to the annual Nordstrom Spring Trend show. They were unveiling the new Chanel Summer collection at their counters, featuring gifts with purchase for left and right and I'd get a makeover. What I thought would be a fun morning was really a little disappointing but hey, that's the way it is sometimes.

Nordstrom A few things were disappointing that day. The first is that the "show" part of the event was not there and we didn't even know until we got there. There was no explanation of this at all. Usually we'd watch a presentation featuring some speakers representing different lines and take part in some giveaways. We got there early to get a good seat for this but it turns out we could have slept in a bit more. Then I had my makeover at the Bobbi Brown counter. The execution wasn't what I expected. I had 4 layers of product on my undereye area but yet my eyelids didn't get as much attention. They used Long Wear Cream Shadow (love them!) but only applied some to my lower lid and brow bone... What about the middle? My eye had very little definition, which is what I wanted the most.

Nordstrom Beauty Gift with Purchase Finally, the gift with purchase. I already thought it was bad but then yesterday I get an email from Nordstrom promoting their online gift with purchase. If you spend over $100, you get a pink tote full of samples. You know what the gift with purchase was at the store? An empty pink makeup bag... that actually matches the tote they are giving away with an online purchase. Trend show events usually give you something for attending. I have a hat box and a train case from events like these. This empty makeup bag looks like a men's shaving kit bag... only in pink. It just seemed in poor taste to make women spend $100 to get that, give us the same offer you give those buying online. That would have been much better, the gifts from individual counters were better than this and I spent less money to get them. Seeing this left me bummed out but I still love Nordstrom and Bobbi Brown.

What's been your favorite and worst gift with purchase? I love the one I got from Laura Mercier on Saturday (more on what I bought coming soon). It was a cute little, faux brown snakeskin bag with deluxe samples of foundation, lipstick, exfoliator and shower gel. And I only had to spend $75 to get it.

Tag! I'm It
by Carla, filed under Chit Chat

Henna at Canadian Beauty tagged me so now it's my turn to participate in this meme.

1.What is the story behind the name of your blog?
I wish I had some funny story to share about this but the name Product Girl just came out due to a lack of creativity! I'm still not crazy about the name and I've thought about changing it quite a bit. I once thought I'd hold a contest to help rename the site but I didn't follow through with it. The name will definitely be changed but still unsure as to when. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about this though!

2. Why did I start blogging?
I started blogging about 10 years ago and it wasn't even beauty related. In 2005, I realized I would have more fun if I blogged about products I bought and liked using. I didn't want to include them on my main blog so I created a separate blog just for this idea and that is how Product Girl was born. It has always been about sharing my finds with others and learning about new products. I also really liked the connection to others that blogging gave me and hoped the same would be true for the beauty blog. I had no idea so many beauty product addicts were out there when I started!

3. What is your best and worst blogging experience?
The best experience of my life so far has been turning my hobby of personal blogging into a full time job. In September 2005, I went to work for Six Apart (the company behind TypePad). Even though I left the company at the end of June last year, I had an amazing experience. It's not very often that someone has a chance to turn a hobby into a paying job. Even writing this blog, there have been some great experiences. We've been in the NY Times and in Women's Wear Daily but I'll never forget listening to my podcast voicemail and hearing a message from Heather Park from MAC. It was like validation for all my work over the years. Fortunately, I don't really have any negative experiences with regard to Product Girl and let's hope it stays that way.

4. What do I think will happen to the blog in 2008?
I really hope that this is the year that this blog really grows and gets better than ever, I feel like it hasn't really grown or gone anywhere lately so that needs to change. I have some great things planned like new features we'll run on a regular basis, video podcasts, my friend Lea (who's absolutely amazing) will be writing soon, a new look and I'll finally give away some loot to our readers. I think this year will be a great year for Product Girl, things are already looking up since January.

Now it's my turn to tag a few more bloggers... I'm tagging Shannon at A Girl's Gotta Spa and Makeup Minute, Erika at Makeup Bag and Lianne The Makeup Girl. You're it!
