I am a sucker for Tarte’s QVC Today Special Value sets, I really am. Today QVC’s Today Special Value is Tarte’s What Has Your Makeup Done For You Lately set, #A225763 I’ve probably said this before but they always introduce something new in these sets and there’s always something else for me to obsess over. Right now? I’m loving that Tarte has given us yet another great brush and a new chunky lip pencil… I’m all about the lip pencils.
This set retails for $49.96 and introduces us to Tarte’s new Maracuja Miracle Foundation with Broad Spectrum SPF 15. It also has a few products that will remain exclusive to QVC until January 2013, we’ll get into that in a moment. Another thing about this set? If you sign up for auto-delivery, your November set will include Tarte’s bronzing powder and the February set will include the original setting powder.
Let’s take a look at the packaging. I always love Tarte’s packaging for these sets. Whether it is a makeup bag or a box, I like the care and attention they put into each set. Remember the recent set with the eyeshadow box? Gorgeous… and the packaging for their new lip gloss? Also gorgeous.
Here’s what is included in this set:
- Maracuja Miracle 12-hour Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15
- 100% pure Maracuja Oil rollerball (QVC exclusive)
- LipSurgence Lip Shine in smitten (QVC exclusive)
- Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara in black
- modernEYES waterproof creaseless shadow/liner duo (QVC exclusive)
- Retoucher bamboo foundation brush
I have to say that this foundation didn’t work for me but if my skin was different, I would like it. It blends really well and gives me a ton of coverage with troubled areas without appearing super heavy, always a good thing with me. The problem I have is that this is a hydrating foundation and before too long, the coverage I like so much quickly begins sliding off my face, especially in this warm weather. While it was nowhere near close to 12 hours worth of wear with me, I imagine that those of you with dry skin will get much better wear of this foundation. The good thing about this foundation being in this set is it introduced me to my new favorite foundation brush. The short and dense bristles are great for stippling on your foundation, tinted moisturizer or BB cream.
I am smitten with this new LipSurgence Lip Shine in smitten. This pencil is more pigmented than Tarte’s other LipSurgence pencils, practically fully opaque and as the name suggests, has plenty of shine as well. I am hoping that this might be a teaser to a full range of new LipSurgence Lip Shines, that would make me a happy Tarte gal. The shade itself is a pretty soft pink that works well with both warm and cool skin tones. If there was such a thing as a pink nude lip, this would be it… at least for me.
Tarte is all about the purple, if you didn’t know and we’re still riding the purple train with the this modernEYES waterproof creaseless shadow/liner duo. The shadow part of the duo is a really pretty golden plum and taupe combination that works well with the liner part of the duo, a deep plum brown. I have yet to give the shadow portion of the duo a whirl but I have been using the liner. Just like Tarte’s other liners, it has a nice glide to it but also seems to be a little fragile.
Another thing Tarte does well? Mascara. This Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara follows right in Lights, Camera, Lashes footsteps and gives lashes some volume. This was my first time using this mascara and I really appreciated the thick tube, made me feel like I had more control over the application.
How about some swatches?
The other thing not pictured here is the Maracuja Oil rollerball. This is a fantastic idea and I’m really surprised a mass brand hasn’t done this already. It makes it easier to apply to your skin but also makes it portable for those times you need a little dose of moisture. I’ve been keeping this handy and applying it to my cuticles lately, they need all the help they can get!
Finally, this set has a little bonus extra and it’s Tarte’s new Maracuja C-Brighter Eye Treatment. It is interesting to see Tarte dipping into skincare again and it makes me wonder what will follow. Can we expect a Maracuja cleanser? I haven’t been using this eye cream long enough to see any brightening happening but I’m OK with that, it hydrates well and absorbs quickly enough for my needs at the moment.
