Well done, Beauty.com. Their new box of goodies, a.k.a. the Beauty.com Beauty Favorites Box, is a steal at $25. But it’s not one you can snag online at Beauty.com, rather it’s being rolled out in brick and mortar Walgreen’s stores in the Chicago area. For those in my city, you’re welcome! For those elesewhere, Beauty.com is looking into rolling this concept out “in a bigger way” to other cities in 2013 (so says Beauty.com President Kathleen Mcneill in WWD.) The Box includes a full-sized Laura Geller Blush-n-Brighten, Bliss Lemon Sage Hand Cream, Borghese Liquid Eyeliner and more from top brands like Murad, Perricone and Lorac. Oh, and if the $25 wasn’t enough of a deal, Beauty.com threw in a $10 off gift card to use online. The set officially launched this month and will be available while supplies last.
What do you think of Beauty.com’s foray into Walgreen’s stores?
This week’s mani is everything. I can’t remember the last time I got this excited about my polish. Everything about this is amazing. First, the color: MAC Styleseeker, from the “Style Seeker” collection launching this week. Second, the formula: smooth and easy to apply. Third, the finish: a red orange duo chrome.
I’m really picky about my duo chromes. I find so many of them to be the same, usually with purple/green flashes. Nothing wrong with that, sure, just that I’m used to it. Styleseeker is so interesting, and reminds me of a hot fall day. When the leaves are red/orange and crinkly but the weather is still summer-like. If you’re crafting your fall nail polish wardrobe, as we are, I think you need this color in it.
Somehow, my excitement over my mani has turned this Monday into a great one! Hope everyone’s week is starting off the same. What are you wearing on the tips this week?
MAC Styleseeker, coming to counters August 23, and online now for $15.
Ombre nails are where it’s at right now. We love this trend, and are excited that it’s the focus of our newest video with Revlon. There are a few ways to approach the ombre nail. We’ve done the one color with white polish — and it can be messy for sure — or you can use five different shades in the same color family. Revlon sent us five shades of Revlon® Nail Enamel for the ombre look. Lightest to darkest from left to right we used:
- Pink Chiffon
- Posh Pink
- Fuchsia Fever
- Plum Seduction
What do you think?
We’re giving away a bottle of Revlon Nail Enamel to 10 Product Girl readers. To enter, leave a comment on this post! We’ll pick winners on Wednesday, August 22.

It’s no doubt that Urban Decay’s eye shadow palettes are popular in the beauty community. They’ve got a knack for design some amazing palettes from their book of shadows to the infamous Naked and Naked2 palettes. One of my first ever palettes was from Urban Decay (Show Pony palette, love!) and I’ve been hooked on UD since. While their are tons of neutral, everyday palettes, not many brands come out with a “smoked” type palette. I was excited to get my hands on Urban Decay’s Smoked palette and I definitely think this is something everyone could use in their makeup collection.
For $49, you get 10 pigmented and buttery shadows, a travel size Primer Potion, and a full size Perversion eyeliner. It comes in a zip-up package which prevents that fear of your palette every opening. Also inside, an mirror on the inside cover and room to store an eyeliner. Let’s take a closer look at each shade along with swatches.
We spent last Friday night giving ourselves gel manicures with the SensatioNail Gel Polish system. After noticing how my mother’s nails looked like they were bleeding since she wouldn’t remove the leftovers of her red mani, I thought I’d try to convert her to gel. I was also trying to convert my aunt, who says nail polish does not last more than a couple days on her nails. So there we were, four gals gathered around a table with a LED lamp and some nail polish. We went with Coral Sunset, Purple Orchid and Taupe Tulips. These are my mother’s nails, nails I envy and I often complain to her that I did not inherit them. She’s wearing Coral Sunset, doesn’t it look gorgeous on her?
If you’re a fan of Shellac or other salon gel manicures, you’re going to want to learn more about SensatioNail. For the cost of two visits to a nail salon, depending how much your salon charges, you can pick up a SensatioNail starter set and get a gel manicure at home.
There’s something rewarding about taking away all that makeup, dirt and grime at the end of the day, it is one of my favorite rituals at the end of the day. The Josie Maran Pure & Simple Argan Skincare Ritual kit breaks things down into three easy steps to help you form your own ritual and it is tomorrow’s QVC Today’s Special Value.
This kit includes four full size Josie Maran products, some we already know and love:
- Argan Cleansing Oil – this cleanser is enriched with olive, safflower and grape seed oils to gently cleanse the skin without making it feel dry or tight afterwards.
- 100% Pure Argan Oil – this is the oil that started the whole Argan oil craze! It’s a fantastic multi-tasker, use it as an anti-aging moisturizer, to treat split ends or even to moisturize your cuticles. If you have skin dryness, Argan oil can help.
- Argan Daily Moisturizer Protect + Perfect Tinted Lotion – a new Argan moisturizer with broad spectrum SPF 40 and a tint to correct imperfections and even out skintone. This one is new to me and I’m excited to try it.
- Argan Color Stick – last but not least, a color multi-tasking stick in Beautiful that you can use on lips, cheeks and even on the eyes for a bit of a youthful glow. This soft pink shade will look great on everyone.
If you’re new to Josie Maran, this kit is a great way to see for yourself what her line is all about. These four products really say it all and they are full sizes! My favorite thing about this kit is Argan Color Stick, a shade that will look great on any skintone and helps me get away with wearing less makeup this summer. How about you? What do you love most about this kit?
We’ve all loved and lost at the MAC Limited Edition game. Find your favorite eyeshadow only to watch it disappear into the abyss of discontinued products. Same goes for your lip gloss and lipstick. When MAC announced earlier this year they would bring back nine discontinued products “By Request,” we were excited. Especially when we heard Moth Brown, of MAC Barbie fame, was included as an option. I missed out on that one, and I’m not sure I’ve ever completely accepted that.
Same goes for the rest of MAC fans. The three eyeshadows, lip glasses and lipsticks that make up MAC By Request pulled in thousands of votes. And to stagger the excitement, MAC is launching each category on separate days. By Request Lipsticks on Monday, August 6 (sadly, only one remains, — Candy Yum Yum, with the most number of votes at 77,517, sold out in an instant), Lip Glass on Wednesday, August 8 (go now!!) and Eyeshadows on Monday, August 13.
The must-haves for us are definitely Jete and Moth Brown eyeshadows and Cult of Cherry Lip Glass. Jete is a shimmery peach shadow in a veluxe pearl finish (gorgeous!) and Moth Brown is most definitely in the “taupe hall of fame.” Moth Brown is surprisingly one of those complex taupes that does not turn straight purple on my skin tone. It’s an interesting shade of grey that makes my blue eyes pop.
The full MAC By Request collection includes:
The list of multi-use beauty products we love are almost entirely for the face. Stains that work on the lips and cheeks or highlighters that double as eyeshadow, usually. When it comes to hair, it’s generally more prescriptive. Shampoo to cleanse, conditioner to hydrate, serum to smooth, etc. One product I rarely use is hairspray, even thought it would definitely help my curls hold a little longer. Which is why this week’s Beauty VIP, Living Proof Restore Revitalizing Spray, is so brilliant. It’s a styling hairspray that protects against heat and UV damage and can be used on wet or dry hair. It gets major bonus points for being odorless and not building up in the hair. I only wash my hair (using water) a few times a week, so products that leave residue in my hair are not welcome in my routine.
This spray + Beachwaver waves = pretty, shiny, smooth, protected hair. I’m not surprised that it’s Living Proof to come out with such an inventive product. Check it out here.
It’s officially been a few months since Glossybox launched in the U.S., and we’re officially excited about some items that have appeared in our boxes. Beauty sampling services are the best thing to happen to our mailboxes. We’ve tried many, and while we’re very loyal to our beloved Birchbox, we just can’t enough. Here are the highlights from our Glossybox deliveries.
vbeautè is a line we’ve been curious about, so we were pleased to see a trio of minis in our June Glossybox. The line was created by “It Girl”/socialite Julie Macklowe, and includes what she calls “vComplex,” a potent concentrate made from Swiss Alpine Rose Botanical Technology an age-antagonist that provides antioxidant protection. Basically, something to help fuel the appearance of youth! The “Lite Up” brightening serum is especially luxe on the skin.
What I wouldn’t give for some Vent Glacé right about now. Leave it to NARS to expand our understanding of the French language — Vent Glacé translates to “icy wind.” In fact, all of NARS Fall 2012 collection has us longing for cool fall temps so badly. Autumn Leaves Lipstick, anyone? While we’re still months away from meteorological icy winds, we’ll happily take the NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Vent Glacé in the interim. A duo of platinum and silver smoke, Vent Glacé is neutral with the NARS twist. The twist in this instance is the green undertones. The platinum is a frosty pale silvery green and the silver smoke is an interesting sage khaki.
