Revlon Photo Ready Compact Makeup: Love it or Leave it?

After the success I had with Revlon Photo Ready Foundation, I was eager to try Revlon’s Photo Ready Compact Makeup. It looked promising, and I thought it might be handy to have a purse version of this foundation. But it’s not your usual run of the mill compact makeup. Rather it has a liquefying screen which turns the product from cream to liquid for application. In hindsight, the words “liquefying screen” may have been a red flag.

It’s hard for me to really evaluate this as a foundation because I had such a hard time getting the product out. You really have no choice but to use the sponge that comes with the compact, which I reluctantly did. It’s not that I have beef with the sponge, it’s just a bacteria magnet and I don’t like the idea of slathering the same applicator over my face day after day.

Ultimately, I think there are inherent flaws with the idea of a liquefying screen. I’d like to see that go away. Until then, this product is a “leave it.” Anyone else have any experience with it?

  1. Hey Laurie,

I tried the product too and didn’t love the formula, but have you tried pressing a foundation brush on the screen? I found that it picked up the “liquid” pretty well and I was able to then apply it. The other option is using your fingers, which also works. I agree that the sponge probably isn’t the best for applying.

  2. Henna,

Thanks for the tip! I haven’t given the brush a sold enough try…thanks for the recommendation. I’m not sold that it will make the difference for me either, as that screen just drives me totally nuts!!

  3. Bummer! I wanted to love this. I’ll have to give it a shot anyway since I love the cream formulas in the winter. I like to use the sponge but I replace it very often. That’s why I couldn’t get on board with L’Oreal’s roller foundation because it made my foundation !gasp! linty! Yuck.
