Nordstrom Aniversary Sale Beauty Exclusives

Isn’t this Clarisonic Mia in blue so cute? Loving the pattern…

Last week I had the chance to travel to New York City and get a sneak peek at the goodies Nordstrom is bringing us as exclusives for their Anniversary sale. As I mentioned last week, you can shop the pre-sale now if you are a Nordstrom cardholder but if you are not, everything seen here and more will be available to you this Friday, July 20th until August 5th, prices go up on August 6th. If you’re a cardholder, you can also earn double points on your beauty purchases from now until the 19th… rack up those rewards!

This is just a sampling of the goodies available during the store, there are many more available online and in stores. As beauty lovers, this is the event we all live for every summer and I was glad to have the chance to check these out. The thing about the anniversary sale is that it is all about the value. Retailers, and Nordstrom in particularly, do not have sales is cosmetics but there are definitely values to be had during the year. This is one of those occasions and some of the values here are phenomenal, not to mention all the great GWPs.

Nordstrom Beauty Directors Cheri Botiz and Tawni Hart hosted a great event at their Treasure & Bond store in SoHo complete with pampering from makeup artists, manicurists and hairstylists. Not a bad way to spend a hot, muggy New York City day, right? For our hair needs, a team from Blow was on hand to style our hair, they created this gorgeous braided up-do on an editor. We also had manicurists from Deborah Lippmann tending to our nails and Nordstrom Beauty Stylists touching up our makeup. With the humidity melting the makeup off my face, I needed all the help I could get!

Let’s take a look at some of my favorites from the exclusives I had a chance to see when I was in New York…

Perhaps the biggest draw for beauty addicts during the anniversary sale are the MAC exclusives. This year the sets are feature packaging with illustrations from Julie Verhoeven . Like last year, we have the same boxed sets with eyeshadow, a few brushes, eyeliner and a mascara. This year they have a smokey eye theme; Smokey Eye Plum kit and Smokey Eye Black kit. We also have two brush sets, the All Over brush kit and the Face Canvas brush kit. I’m loving the Face Canvas brush set simply because we are being treated to a kit full of duo-fibre brushes, which is a bit of a rarity with MAC. The exclusives don’t stop there, we also have lip trios complete with makeup bag in Nude, Pink, Red and Peach. The brush sets and smokey eye kits retail for $49.50 and the lip trios retail for $39.50.

Kiehl’s has quite a few exclusives this Anniversary sale including their staple jumbo sizes of Creme de Corps and their Amino Acid Shampoo and Conditioner. They also have three sets ranging from $78 to $110, their Powerful Moisture Restoring set, Powerful Line and Wrinkle Fighting Set and the Youth Regenerating Set seen here. This set retails for $110 and includes my favorite Kiehl’s products; full sizes of Rosa Arctica Cream and Midnight Recovery Concentrate then deluxe samples of their Midnight Recovery Eye Concentrate, Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate and Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+.

You know I love Kate Somerville, right? She is my skincare hero. This Get Gorgeous set sells for $98 and includes the product everyone woman should own; ExfoliKate. I can’t imagine my life and skincare routine without this product and neither should you. It also includes a few of Kate’s self-tanning towelettes/pads for face and body, otherwise known as Somerville360, a deluxe trial size of her new Dermal Quench Liquid Lift and her new Daily Deflector Moisturizer, this is the first time she’s combined sunscreen with a moisturizer.

This Clinique Pretty in Pinks and Plums set is perfect to carry you into fall. For $50, you get Bottom Lash Mascara and High Impact Mascara both in Black, Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Currant, Different Lipstick in Raspberry Glace, Cream Shaper for Eyes in Black Diamond and a sample of All About Eyes, one of my favorite eye creams. The quilted purple makeup bag is darling.

I’ve developed a bit of an addiction to Volupsa candles in the last few years and you can always find at least two in my home at all times. This Maisons Collection trio goes for $29 and includes Champagne (brut champagne mingling with hints of vanilla and barrel oak), Pomegranate Patchouli (ripe pomegranate mixed with spicy earth-rich patchouli) and Coeur de Cassis (berry cassis surrounded by leaves, plum and twigs).

This Studio Groupie set from Smashbox is so pretty and is packed with Smashbox essentials in a fold-over clutch for $59. It includes a Photo Finish Lid Primer, a Double-Ended Lip Enhancing Gloss in Radiant/Poised, Full-Exposure Mascara, Blush Rush in Marvelous and an Eye Shadow Quad in Fog, Satin, Rosebud and Tarnish. If you’re all set on your makeup essentials, how about your essential brushes? There’s also the Studio Groupie Brush Set for $39, it comes with Tapered Shadow Brush #7, Definer Brush #15, Double-Ended Smudge Brush #20 and Angled Blush Brush #23.

Do you remember seeing this Calanque from last year? If you thought you missed out on this trio, fear not. The NARS Love Rite set brought it back for you for $55. It also includes a deluxe size Illuminator in Orgasm, deluxe-size Lip Gloss in Turkish Delight and deluxe-size Lip Gloss in Greek Holiday… all NARS must haves!

Laura Mercier has two exclusives for us this year. The first is her Signature Color Essentials travel set retailing for $80. It includes the palette you see here with a full size blush in Vintage Pink (exclusive shade) and eyeshadows in Morning Dew (must have!), Primrose, Topaz and Kir Royal. It also includes a full size Caviar Stick Eye Color in Twilight and Lip Glace in Sweetheart (exclusive shade as well) along with travel sizes of her Foundation Primer, Full-Blown Volume Lash-Building Mascara in Black and an Allover Eye Color Brush. Isn’t this a great value? This set is on my shopping list for sure, it would be great to travel with. The other exclusive is this Touch Up Brush Set for Eyes and Cheeks, it retails for $60 and includes travel size versions of her Eye Color, Crease, Flat Eyeliner and Cheek Color brushes along with a case and mirror.

I have to admit, I was super excited when I saw this nail polish. We all know nails are only getting bigger and bigger and Deborah Lippmann’s anniversary exclusives have had me in line waiting to hand over my debit card for years now. This shade is called Let’s Go Crazy, it looks almost neon on the Nordstrom website but really, this is a purple creme with multi-color glitter much like Happy Birthday. In fact, I asked the gal manning the nail station at the event if this was basically Happy Birthday with a purple base and she agreed. Love the nod to Prince with this shade. Maybe we can expect an Under the Cherry Moon shade some time in the future? ;)

Deborah Lippmann also created this Magnetic Appeal Mini Magnetic Wave Design Set for us retailing for $29. This set includes Punk Princess (gilded-raspberry shimmer), Hard Knock Life (gunmetal black shimmer) Magic Man (navy shimmer). Punk Princess is unique for a magnetic nail polish, most of the magnetic shades we see are dark and shimmery. I can only hope Deborah continues to put out shades like this.

If you have never tried Cle de Peau’s skincare, this exclusive Cle de Peau Beaute Radiance set would be a great way to go. For $160, you get a cute cosmetics pouch with full sized Brightening Serum SupreLa Creme and their Cotton Sheets.

One of my staples during the Anniversary sale is this Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deoderant Trio for $35, I’ve been known to pick up more than one of these sets. Sometimes I am greedy and keep them all to myself but sometimes I split up the trio and give some away as gifts.

If you’re a fan of Butter London’s new lipgloss Lippy, you’ll have the chance to pick up new shades! New shades being added to the line up include Rosie Lee (yay glitter!) and Disco Biscuit. You can pick up a duo of the lipgloss and nail polish for only $19. Frankly, that is a steal. You know the nail polish on its own is $14, right?

I’m loving this bareMineral In Fashion set. It’s $54 and includes a lot of what is great about Bare Minerals right now, their pressed eyeshadow and their new Marvelous Moxie lipgloss formula! This set includes a Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss in Rebel, Prime Time Brightening Foundation Primer, Ready Eyeshadow in The Top Shelf, Mini Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara, Golden Gate Blush, Prime Time Eyeshadow Primer in Burnished Bronze, a sample of Active Cell Renewal Night Serum and an angled blush brush.

Did you know Shiseido is Bare Minerals parent company? As a result their skincare has really improved. I’m hearing great things about the Active Cell Renewal Night Serum.

Another one of my staples from the anniversary sale are Philosophy Amazing Grace jumbo sizes. This Amazing Grace set goes for $69 and includes their 3-in-1 shower gel, body lotion and a body oil mist. This is my go-to scent for when I want to pamper myself or have a bit of a “pick me up”, Amazing Grace is such a pretty feminine scent. I can’t get enough of it.

The T3 ‘Hollywood Nights’ Anniversary Set is perfect for creating those gorgeous waves that all of us covet in the summer and want to carry over into fall. For $99 you get four 1 3/4” rollers and four 1 1/2” rollers along with spring loaded clicks and a storage tote. These hot rollers feature T3’s proprietary Tourmaline technology, which emits maximum ionic, infrared heat to safely penetrate the hair shaft and helps style hair from the inside out while sealing the hair cuticle against frizz and give natural shine.

Last but not least, MOR is back. You can pick up a MOR Body Butter duo for only $9 (!!!), Hand & Body Lotion or Hand & Body Wash for $9.90. These are a steal and makes excellent gifts. If I were you, I’d stockpile these now. They look great in your bathroom and look even better in a gift bag. For less than $10 for either of these, there’s no excuse not to try them. You can choose from their Neroli Clementine, Honey Nectar, Black Currant Iris, Sugar Rose Tiger Lily and Basil & Grape scents. There’s not a bad one in the bunch, seriously.

One thing you may want to check out is the events page to see if your store is having a Beauty Bash. Stores in select cities will be giving away free beauty goodies to the first 300 customers—with samples from Balenciaga Paris, BareMinerals, Clarins, Clinique, Kate Somerville, L’Occitane, Philosophy and Xen-Tan. They will also have coffee and treats to sweeten the deal.

So tell me, have you hauled some anniversary exclusives yet? Are you planning to? Tell me what’s on your shopping list in the comments. I’m dying to know. You know what would be helpful? Nordstrom should publish a PDF with a list of all of the exclusives like a shopping list. Then we can just check off what we want to pick up. Wouldn’t that be handy? Magazines do this when they publish their “Best of” issues. Seems like the next logical step. :)
