New! NARS Spring 2012

I studied liberal arts in college — math and science were not my strengths. But I had to take a statistics course, and I remember how outliers would skew a regression. After taking stock of NARS Spring 2012 collection, it feels like a collection full of outliers. Which is completely the mystique of Francois Nars.

According to Nars, “At first glance, all the pinks and shimmers can look very sweet and innocent, but actually there is a lot of bold and contrasting color — a gray-lavender eyeshadow, a navy blue Soft Touch Shadow Pencil, a hot pink lip color, for example — that make the collection edgier and more sophisticated than it may seem.”

Let’s break it down.

Douce France Trio Eyeshadow ($45) A trio of shimmery icy pink and rose-petal pink and matte deep rose that can be mixed to create a range of looks, from delicate and innocent to bold and sophisticated.

Paramaribo Duo Eyeshadow ($34) The inspiration for this metallic brass and bronze duo stems from the capital and largest city of Surinam. Wear each solo or layer for a richly burnished effect.

Dark Rite Soft Touch Shadow Pencil ($24) – Navy blue complements any warm-weather look. Use Dark Rite as a base for layering with powder shadow or to further line and sculpt the eye.

Lhasa Eyeshadow ($24) – A shimmery lavender-gray named for a city home to many significant Tibetan Buddhist palaces.

Gaiety Blush ($28) A bright candy-pink blush that’s as cheerful as the state of joy for which it’s named. (SO excited to see this live and in person!)

Mexican Rose Velvet Gloss Pencil ($24) Just like its namesake flower, known for its long-lasting pink blooms, this hot-pink Velvet Gloss Pencil leaves lips gorgeously glossy and moisturized.

Valparaiso Pure Matte Lipstick ($25) This rich raspberry hue is named after a Chilean city (not that town in Indiana) that is increasingly known as the country’s cultural capital.

Bilbao Lipstick ($24)A shimmering topaz named for the Basque region of Spain.

Diamond Life Nail Polish ($18) Sade’s 1984 debut album inspired this metallic violet nail color.  “Smooth Operator” indeed.

What do you think of the spring color story from NARS? Mexican Rose is a MUST (by now, my obsession with these pencils is well documented) as well as Gaiety. According to NARS, Douce France Trio Eyeshadow is a must-have product from the collection because it allows for many eye looks.

NARS Spring will be available Friday, January 13, on
