From the moment I saw Anne Hathaway wearing NARS Bolero Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, part of the summer collection from NARS, I knew it was a color that I would just love. The pink canteloupe description struck a chord with me. It sounded like it would be a versatile product perfect for summer. And guess what? It totally is.
Bolero is one of those shades that you can work in many different ways. Above, I’m wearing it with a dash of clear balm (my Yes to Carrots Berry Balm!) Because it is a Velvet Matte Pencil it can accentuate any dryness. The balm adds a nice satin touch that I prefer. In fact, I’ve found that I hardly ever wear Bolero on its own. I like mixing and matching this one with other players in my makeup bag. Here’s some combos I recommend:
- Layered under NARS Greek Holiday Lip Gloss. A NARS artist recommended this, and it is so fab. Honestly, what doesn’t look good with Greek Holiday? The gold in the gloss is so complementary. This is a killer combination.
- Mixed with the Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils, namely Happy Days or Hopi. Happy Day steps up the coral notch and the gloss balances the matte, giving it a subdued shine. Hopi does the same, but instead the brown tones serve as a neutralizer.
- Layered over Mayflower Lipstick from NARS Summer Collection. Mayflower is more of a raspberry, and the two together are an offbeat pairing that create a neutral berry. It’s how Anne Hathaway was wearing it!
Let us know if you’ve tried Bolero. If so, how do you wear it? Any insights to share?
