This week Maybelline’s iconic Great Lash Mascara turned 40 years old. This made me think about one of the first beauty products I started using once my mother started letting me wear makeup. One of those products was Great Lash and to this day, it is probably the beauty product I have re-purchased over and over and over again. To this day, the women in my family still use it. You can’t pry the Great Lash out of my younger sister’s hands!
One thing is for sure, without Great Lash, many of Maybelline’s amazing mascaras wouldn’t be here today. Also, Great Lash continues to be the #1 selling mascara in the US with a tube sold every 1.7 seconds. Can you even imagine that? In celebration of this momentous occasion, Maybelline collaborated with Max Azria, Tracy Reese and Vivienne Tam to create this limited edition release of the infamous pink and green tube.
A little Great Lash history first… did you know designer Lilly Pulitzer inspired the pink and green tube? Just a little fact I recently learned myself.
For Max Azria, it was an honor to bring the the BCBGMAXAZRIA aesthetic to the product after working together backstage for several seasons. For her tube, Tracy Reese chose a graphic floral print and Vivienne Tam went with the Chinese symbol for “Lash” to create the perfect fusion of Maybelline and Vivienne Tam aesthetics. Which design is your favorite? I am a sucker for lace on packaging in any shape or form so naturally that one is my favorite.
The Maybelline Great Lash Mascara limited edition collection is available now online at Target for just $6.99 a tube and will be hitting stores in September. Remember, you should be replacing your mascara every 3 months… why not use this as a good excuse to stock up? Back ups are definitely necessary.
