Lipstick Queen Gets Medieval on Your Lips

I already loved Poppy King’s Lipstick Queen line, it has wonderfully pigmented matte lipsticks and sheer, creamy lipsticks. Now I have another reason to love the line, she came out with a new product that’s almost like a lip stain… those are my magic words!

lipstick-queen-medieval Lipstick Queen’s Medieval is really a tinted lip treatment. It was inspired by a time when wearing pigment lipstick was considered a sin. Back then lemon was used to stain their lips a sheer blood red and this is what Poppy King actually did to try and recreate this shade for herself. Ouch!

When I tried this product, I was surprised by how creamy it went on my lips. It soothed and moisturized them like a lip balm. Could that be because Lipstick Queen’s Medieval is mainly a combination of Vitamin E and pigment? Yep! I expected something more like a gel.

Lipstick Queen’s Medieval imparted a really flattering sheer cherry red on my lips and as I kept applying the product, I was able to build up the intensity too. Given the consistency, I didn’t expect the product to leave much color behind on my lips but as the moisture wore off, my lips were indeed gently stained with color and as I’d reapply, the process started all over again. I even tried this on my cheeks, it made for a nice cream blush in a pinch!

So what do you think? Will you give this a try? You can find Lipstick Queen’s Medieval online and at Barney’s New York stores, Space NK and Henri Bendels.

  1. Thanks for the review! I love the historical inspiration behind Medieval. Did you find that it rubs off onto cups, etc. when you drink? Also, if you still have the packaging with the ingredients list, can you please tell me if it’s got carmine in it?
