The Dolce & Gabbana spring makeup collection has landed on counters and it is serving up the perfect spring look on a pretty platter. This collection is overflowing with vivid color to play with for nails, lips, eyes and cheeks. Even if bright colors are out of your comfort zone, this collection’s palette of color has options to ease your way into that bright light.
If you are in the Seattle area, Dolce & Gabbana’s National Makeup Artist Christian McCulloch will be here this weekend to give personal consultations so it is the perfect time to visit the counter and play with the spring collection. Keep reading for more information on booking your consultation and which product from the spring collection is a must-have! A little background on Christian, he became Dolce & Gabbana’s National Makeup Artist in 2013. He’s known for his keen eye in designing chic sophisticated beauty looks. He has worked with Scarlett Johanson (one of the faces of Dolce & Gabbana), Camila Alves, Kate Bosworth, Emma Stone, Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, Christina Hendricks and Olivia Wilde. His work has also appeared in major publications such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Marie Claire. If you remember Kate Hudson’s look at the Golden Globes this past January, that was Christian’s work. When I was asked if I wanted to ask Christian a few questions, I jumped at the chance.
This collection is packed with bold hues for eyes, lips and nails. Where did the inspiration for this collection come from?
The bright colors are inspired by the colors found in nature in Sicily during the Spring season, especially the fresh, bright shades like Bouganville and Raspberry.
For those easing into bolder color, what are your tips for incorporating these hues into their look? A bold eye and lip or just one of them at a time?
My advice is to try it! You’ll never know if a bold look suits you or not until you try.
What are your “must have” products from the spring D&G line?
The soft, cool pastel Smooth Eye Color Quad in Tender is just beautiful. It is the perfect base to build upon because the soft luminous shades enhance the eye area superbly. Then you add a pop of color with black lashes and a bold lip and/or cheek. To create a bold lip and cheek look, the Luminous Cheek Color in Raspberry and the Classic Cream Lipstick in the genius shade Bouganville (my new favorite!) are perfect. So flattering and easy.
If you only had time for one product from the spring collection, which one should it be?
The Classic Cream Lipstick in Bouganville. You can also rub it into the cheeks as a cream blush. I do also love the sexy, cool nude lipstick, Classic Cream Lipstick in Sugar Pink. This shade is so great for that fresh, modern 60’s look. Passioneyes Duo Mascara in Nero is always genius too.
Which products from this spring collection can be incorporated into a year-round look?
The Smooth Eye Color Quad in Tender is a brilliant all year rounder. The lipsticks in the collection are all classic shades and work year round, as do the nail colors!
When working with a client, what is your signature look?
Glowing skin, effortless sexiness and authenticity. Smoldering, mesmeric eyes, rich lips, defined groomed brows and flawless skin complete my signature look. There are lots of laughs along the way, too!
What products from the spring collection can help achieve that look?
The entire collection, really! I gravitate to the softer colors in this collection and always use the Passioneyes Duo Mascara in Nero.
Where do you gather inspiration from when creating a new makeup look?
I like to keep mood boards, iPad images and online research full of collaged inspirations. Color is to be found everywhere and is so much fun to play with, be it in nature or in fashion and accessories. There is always room to play and try new things. Old films, magazines and ad campaigns through the decades also serve as brilliant inspirations.
