Dermalogica Active Moist: Lightweight Hydration for Oily Skinned Gals

by Carla, Filed under: Dermalogica, Skincare

In honor of my little sister’s birthday today (she’s 26, Happy Birthday Vania!), I’m going to talk about a line she introduced me to… Dermalogica. She was the one who I hijacked the Multivitamin Hand and Nail Treatment from. When she worked at a salon, she’d bring home samples of various products and I just ignored them. Bad move on my part.

Fast forward a few years later and I’m browsing the Dermalogica display at Ulta wondering what she used. I picked up Dermalogica’s Normal to Oily Skin Kit to take with me to New York last month and I didn’t expect to find a moisturizer that I would love as much as my current one but I did. Dermalogica’s Active Moist was an unexpected surprise.

This moisturizer from Dermalogica is perfect for those of us with oily skin, that includes me. I’m loving it right now because it’s so lightweight and you can use it year round. Active Moist is a little on the thin side, a little runny, but really all you need is a penny sized amount to moisturize your skin. I didn’t expect to get as much hydration out of it with that texture but my skin is more than satisfied with Active Moist. Unlike some gel lightweight moisturizers I’ve tried in the past (I’m not naming names), this doesn’t dry up immediately and leave my skin feeling a little parched. It leaves a nice little base for my makeup for the day and does it all without any irritation or brake outs (in my experience of course).

The price tag for this moisturizer may give you a little pause, it certainly gave me something to think about. After using a deluxe sample of Dermalogica’s Active Moist for over a month now, I’m definitely picking it up when I run out (which may be in a week or two). If a tiny little tube can last this long, I can only imagine how long the full sized tube will last. I’ll keep you posted on that. :)

Have you used products from Dermalogica? What did you use and what did you think? Let us know in the comments.

    1. My sister introduced me to Dermalogica a few years ago. She was introduced to it by her facialist. So far I’ve loved everything I’ve tried. I’ve tried lots of their products but their daily microfoliant is the absolute best. They have these kits filled with their trial sized products that are perfect for trying out or travel.

    2. Hi Tara! That’s exactly why I bought the kit. :) I think the Daily Microfoliant is in that kit, I definitely like it. :)

    4. When I was going to Esthetician school, Dermalogica was one of the lines we used almost exclusively. The other was Peter Thomas Roth. I still use both to this day and recommend them to others. Active Moist was so good that we could barely keep a supply of it around in our lab. Us students used it constantly on our clients and ourselves. It’s great stuff. I also love Dermalogica’s cleansers. I use Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash (which replaced the Anti-Bac cleanser). It removes makeup and dirt and doesn’t leave my face feeling stripped.

      Great stuff! :)

    5. I have just started using Dermalogica and really love lots of their stuff. I think Daily Microfoliant has to be one of my favouries though – must agree! I did a review on their thermofoliant too though and I really loved that! Fab if you have dull skin – really makes it bright! Haven’t tried their moisturisers yet but definitely go for Active Moist. thanks for heads up on this. x
