I love gel manicures oh so, so, so much but I have to admit that they are not the best thing for my nails. I love the coat of armor they give my nails, and of course the zero-dry time. Being an impatient gal, not having to sit around and wait for my nails to try is a huge plus. Not to mention the 2-weeks and then some wear time. It is a bit of a vicious cycle because I remove my mani, my nails are left a little thin and weak but then I want to run out and get another gel mani just to make up for it. Am I alone here?
When I first started reading about the new CND Vinylux line, I was instantly on board. It is their new line of longer wearing nail color that gives you a week of wear and durability without UV/LED lamps. CND actually says the top coat actually toughens over time with increased exposure to light. Added bonus? Practically all your favorite Shellac shades are now available in this formula. There is really nothing to like here, right?
The line comes with 62 shades available in opaque, semi-sheer and sheer finishes. There’s also ScrubFresh to prep the nail (dehydrate the nail plate to help color adhere better) and the Weekly Top Coat to help seal the deal.
Finding the CND Vinylux line here in the Seattle area was a bit of a challenge, especially the top coat. I am not kidding when I say that I have been checking in on 6 different stores for weeks now just waiting for the top coat. These stores have plenty of nail color but not the top coat. Apparently it is a huge hit and they are having a hard time keeping it in stock. For the time being, I picked up Svelte Suede, Tinted Love, Pink Bikini and Electric Orange. You can see these shades above.
So how does it perform? I’ve been wearing Tinted Love and Electric Orange non-stop for the last month or so. In fact, I’m still wearing Electric Orange today. You can see the wear on my nails here. Ignore the ratty cuticles, digging through paper all day kills them! I really wanted to see how long I could get away with wearing this mani before I tried something else. This application here is a little over 2 weeks old now and without a top coat. Not bad, in my book.
For the opaque shades I tried, the formula was really pigmented and flowed nicely initially. During the coarse of my application, it got a little thick due to the exposure to air and was a little more difficult to work with but it leveled out nicely in the end. I loved how quickly it dried, I was ready to rock and roll within 10 minutes. There was enough shine in the formula without the top coat for my taste as well but I can only imagine how glossy and finished my manicures will look using the top coat designed to go with the nail color.
Overall, I am totally smitten with CND Vinylux. You better believe I am still stalking my local retailers waiting for that top coat to come in. When it finally does, home girl is buying 3!
So what’s on your nails this week? Are you trying Vinylux? Let me know in the comments.
