What's in Her Makeup Bag with Cos Bar's Lily Garfield

Fresh off her collaboration with Target, Cos Bar founder and CEO Lily Garfield is letting us take a peek inside her makeup bag. If you’re unfamiliar with the Cos Bar, it’s a high end store that carries the best in beauty including makeup, skincare, fragrance, bath and body and tools and accessories. It’s the kind of place beauty gals like us would feel right at home in. The first store opened over 25 years ago in Aspen, Colorado but since then has grown to include 12 stores in 8 different states. Can we get one in Seattle please? ;)

What's in Her Makeup Bag with MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Jodi Risley

Meet Jodi, an Education and Artistry Executive for MAKE UP FOR EVER. She’s got more than   a decade in the makeup artist biz, and is pro at applying make up for on-air and for the every day woman. In fact, before she joined MUFE, she used to work for ABC News in Chicago as the show’s assistant makeup artist. Her philosophy is that make up is a necessary accessory that can help create a different mood or style. Amen, right?

I had a chance to sit down with Jodi last month and she worked her magic on me at a café! The most glamorous coffee date I’ve had in months. And informative, too. We had an extensive discussion on color matching and the brand’s HD foundation. Her advice come summer when your skin tone may darken? Add a drop of the HD Microperfecting Primer in Caramel to your HD Foundation to tint it a bit (and make it super smooth and long lasting!)

Jodi graciously let us peek into her makeup bag. Read on to find out her must have beauty essentials!

What's in Her Makeup Bag with Stark Skincare Founder Jessica Lafleur

We haven’t had the pleasure of meeting cool Canadian chick and Stark Skincare Founder Jessica Lafleur in person, but we already know we want to be besties with her.  We love her line of natural, organic skincare and the message it conveys: simplicity and purity. We also love her Pinterest boards, especially “My Man is Also My Living Doll, So?” Speaking of her man, she sent me her photo for this very post right here and the file name was called “MyLove.” It was from her husband’s computer. ADORABLE, right?  We don’t know much about Mr. Stark Skincare, but we like him, too.

Jessica graciously let us peek into her makeup bag. She’s the ultimate expert in organic ingredients and natural skincare, so we were thrilled to see what products she uses on a daily basis. Read on to the end, because Jessica also is asking everyone reading for some very important makeup advice!

What's in Her Makeup Bag with Kate Leydon of the Ruby Room

I have a mild obsession with the Ruby Room in Chicago. It’s the perfectly curated shop with great beauty finds, accessories and a spa/salon/yoga lounge and even guest rooms to boot.  The woman behind the Ruby Room vision is Kate Leydon, a Beauty & Wellness Alchemist by trade. She opened Ruby Room’s doors in 2002 with a mission to put a modern twist on ancient healing rituals and teach people how to recognize intuition and manage their energy. Ten years later, it’s expanded to 13,000 sq. feet of inspiration for every aspect of life. Hence the phrase “The Style of Wellness.”

Naturally, we were so happy when Kate agreed to show us what’s in her makeup bag. Let’s take a look!

Lip Lacquer by Senna in colors like Zest and Blink. I have at least five lip glosses in my bag at any given moment and this shiny iridescent tube features a delicious vanilla flavor with amazing lasting power.

I also love the new Moxie Glosses by Bare Escentuals and have at least three in my purse at all times.

Susan Posnick Colorflo Mineral Foundation #7. The absolute best traveling powder companion ever! Just click the self-dispensing tube with a brush provides amazing coverage with no mess!

Totally Transforming Concealer by Senna. I am a concealer freak and this one is great for touch ups with its tiny little applicator and purse friendly container. It goes on with moisture and dries like a powder. Genius!

Mentos Gum – I love gum, I love to pull out this gum because of its fun shape and container. The texture stays soft, flavor bright and it makes chewing gum even more fun!

Colgate Wisp Portable Peppermint Mini Toothbrush. Colgate is brilliant for inventing this little disposable toothbrush. I go to a lot of events straight from work and with all the above items and a quick mini brush, I feel fresh and ready to roll!

And everything fits in my Candy Store Comsetic Pouch…amazingly stretchable, colorful, washable and irresistible.

What's in Her Makeup Bag with Miss Oops Jennifer Higgins

Jennifer Higgins, founder of Miss Oops, is every girl’s BFF. Her mission? To save us from beauty oops and oh-nos at every twist and turn of life with her clever line. With products like “Butter Hands,” a moisture-rich hand lotion with a boost of SPF 30 and “You’re Not So Vein,” a tinted cream that helps cover and treat pesky spider veins, Jennifer creates innovative, yet simple solutions for women. Plus, does she not have the most covet-worthy head of gorgeous red hair? She makes us want to be gingers. Without further ado, here’s a peek into the makeup bag of Miss Oops herself…

  1. Miss Oops If I Could Turn Back Time:  I love this product because it’s usually always sunny here in Dallas and this product is great for reducing the appearance of sun spots and sun damage caused by harmful rays.
  2. Miss Oops Reign In Rosacea: I developed this product because I personally have rosacea so I wanted to create something that was going to be able to reduce flare-ups.
  3. Bath & Body Works Pocketbac in Japanese Cherry Blossom: I always carry an anti-bacterial hand sanitizer since I am a mother of two boys and busy going from activity to activity.  This one is amazing – I love the scent that it leaves behind.
  4. Smashbox Limitless Longwear Lip Gloss SPF 15 in Eternity: I love this lipgloss in particular because it’s long-lasting, contains SPF and is a shade that I can wear all the time.
  5. Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil: This lip balms smell and tastes amazing and leaves my lips feeling soft.
  6. John Frieda for Conair Vent Brush Sleek Finish: I like to carry a brush with me in my bag as I have long hair which tends to get knotty at times.
  7. Thymes Kimono Rose Cologne Rollerball: This roll-on perfume is great to carry around. It’s small and portable and the scent is so pretty.
  8. Orbit Gum: I always like to keep gum in my makeup bag so I have something for after meals or whenever I need a little freshening up!

What's in Her Makeup Bag with Stephanie Johnson

Topping the list of makeup bags we want to peek into is most definitely Stephanie Johnson. Founder of the eponymous travel accessory line, we’re as curious about what Stephanie carries in her bag as what bag she carries. She launched her coveted line of travel accessories in 2000 after countless trips overseas and weeks spent packing and unpacking while a high-powered exec for a global business firm. She’s the ultimate expert, and uses that edge to create beautiful, streamlined cosmetic and toiletry bags that make life easier (and more stylish!) for women. If you even have a touch of the Type A, you will be infinitely drawn to Stephanie’s bags with removable pouches, pull-out mirrors, brush holders and detachable bags with separate compartments.

Let’s hear it from Stephanie herself what she’s toting around in her colorful Malibu Pouches. Note: we TOO are obsessed with that nail polish shade!

  1. Aveeno Positively Radiant and Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizers.  I’m currently alternating both of these on my face and loving.  They each have SPF 30.
  2. Frownies. What can I say?  I’m a natural girl.  No Botox for me.
  3. Neutrogena Healthy Defense Moisturizer in SPF 50. Also in rotation.  Amazing light feel and I use it for face and body.
  4. Ted Gibson Hair Sheets. Give my hair shine and tame fly-aways.  Genius.
  5. Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve. Since moving to NYC this fall my hands and feet are so incredibly dry.  Slap this on and I’m smooth as silk.
  6. Essie Bobbing for Baubles. Rocking this moody blue this winter.
  7. Arcona Triad Pads. Cleanse tone and hydrate with these cranberry-infused pads.  No problem getting through airport security either!
  8. Maybelline Expert Eyes Eye Makeup Remover.  100% Oil Free.  Been using this for 25 years!
  9. Stephanie Johnson Malibu Pouches in Medium and Large.  I’m obsessed with these patent pouches in 6 great colors.  Perfect to organize and sort everything in my bag using the color system.  Soft like butter.
  10. Tweezerman Tweezers. Never without!
  11. YSL Black Mascara. Simply the best.
  12. YSL Easy Liner for Eyes in Black. All I need to go from day to night.
  13. NARS Lip Gloss in Foul Play, Risky Business and Super Orgasm. Don’t the names say it all?
  14. Stephanie Johnson Snap Mirror in Malibu Lemon.  Useful and adorable.

What's in Her Makeup Bag with One Love Organics President Suzanne LeRoux

From the moment One Love Organics landed on our radar, we wanted to know more about the products and the story behind the brand. It’s clear that every product is crafted with serious attention to detail and a true passion for healthy ingredients. Indeed, One Love Organics President Suzanne LeRoux is a true believer in alternative healing. While a full-time lawyer, she studied holistic nutrition and aromatherapy, and from that, One Love was born. She’s now dedicated to One Love Organics full-time, using her lawyerly analysis and high standards for efficacy to truly uncover what’s beneficial to skin, health and beauty.

Suzanne let us take a look into her makeup bag — the By Elizabeth Dehn Makeup Clutch and gave us some insight into her must-have beauty products. Let’s take a closer look!

1. Primitive LipGloss in Red Rio.

2. Primitive Lipstick in Taj Mahal: Leaves behind a faint golden shimmer. Love!

3. skinnyskinny Black Pepper Rose Dry Shampoo: I love dry shampoo. Reducing the number of times I wash my hair per week has made a huge difference in the health of my hair.

4. Face Spray by Elizabeth Dehn: I am all about the sensorial experience and I use this spray frequently during the day to reenergize, refresh and refocus. It is a burst of cool spray that smells fantastic and whenever I find myself waning, I spray myself!

5. One Love Organics New Best Friend Skin Shammy: I use the skin shammy from morning until night. If I am running late in the morning, I will wet the shammy and use it alone to cleanse and re-freshen my face. I then take one to keep oil at bay during the day and keep my complexion looking matte and smooth. At night, it removes all traces of eye-makeup, dirt and oil.

6. One Love Organics Skin Savior Waterless Multi-Balm. I use this to make a super light treatment foundation with minerals that I blend myself. I also use it to smooth my hair or apply it after the shower to my body for moisture.

7. A Design Pointed Foundation Brush: This is the best brush I have found for applying the treatment foundation properly.

8. Emi Jay Hair Ties: My hair is pretty much always up. These ties help protect my hair, look so cute and I love supporting two teens who have a knack for business and support giving through their company.

9. Mbeze Natural Deodorette in Sweet Sanura.

10. Vapour Organic Beauty Mesmerize Eyeliner

11. Exude Lipstick in Nude.

12. I blend my own minerals.

What's in Her Makeup Bag with Ning Chao

This week we’re taking a look inside Ning Chao’s makeup bag. Ning is the beauty director for Beautylish, one of my favorite beauty websites. I rarely watch YouTube videos but I do, I start at Beautylish. Ning is a beauty addict just like us. Prior to her role at Beautylish, she was the senior beauty editor at Marie Claire and also spent some time at In Style, Elle, Vogue and Glamour. Ning knows beauty. Laurie and I both had the pleasure of meeting Ning at a dinner party in New York when we were there in May and Ning is a sweetheart. You know how some women are naturally radiant and gorgeous? I think Ning is one of them.

Let’s take a peek at what’s insider her bag with commentary from Ning herself:

What's in Her Makeup Bag with Jenna Hipp

This week we are taking a peek into Jenna Hipp’s makeup bag. Jenna is a celebrity manicurist based in LA, her client roster includes Jessica Alba, Fergie, Eva Longoria, Rachel McAdams and Lea Michelle to name a few. She has an impressive body of work that I’m sure you’ve seen on the cover of Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire and In Style. Remember that recent cover of Rolling Stone with Alexander, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer covered in fake blood? Jenna worked that cover too. Can you imagine being on THAT set?

Jenna is a former model and makeup artist but it wasn’t until she moved to LA that she started  making a name for herself as a manicurist under nail great Lisa Postma. In 2007, Jenna got toxic poisoning from all the fumes she was exposed to on a regular basis. Since recovering, Jenna has become an advocate for organic beauty and is now known as the “green” nail manicurist working with lines such as RGB, more on that very soon!

Here’s what is in her makeup bag in her own words: Continue reading

What's in Her Makeup Bag with Taylor Armstrong

You know Taylor Armstrong from Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills but did you also know she’s the Chief Creative Director for Beauty Ticket? You know we love Beauty Ticket, right? I have always admired Taylor’s signature smokey eyes and neutral lips, it is a look I don’t think I can pull off that well myself but just looks gorgeous on her. While Taylor made headlines last week in her personal life, what’s making headlines with us are the contents of her makeup bag since she’s letting us take a peek into it this week.
