You’re probably wondering where we have been lately! Well, at least I hope you have…
Right now I’m in New York City for my first Fashion Week ever. I arrived Friday morning and am flying back home to Seattle tomorrow afternoon. It has been a great experience, one that has been exciting and terrifying all the same time.
Backstage at Peter Som
I have lots to share with you when I get home. I went backstage at the Peter Som, Academy of Art, Chris Benz, Rachel Roy and Tibi shows so I have some photos and information to share with you. I also did some really, really good shopping here in New York that I am completely in love with and dying to try. Right now everything is safely secured in my luggage so I’ll spill the details soon as I get home and unpack all my goodies.
Until then, cross your fingers that my flight will leave on time tomorrow! I’m ready to go home to the comfort of my bed and get out of this weather. 🙂
Anybody in NYC looking for something to do next Tuesday, February 2? Other than watching the premiere of the final season of Lost – which is what I’ll be doing in Chicago…
Beyoncé is launching her first frangrance, Heat, with a big bash in NYC’s Union Square from 6pm-midnight. Heat sounds like it’s going to be a very warm, sweet but sensual fragrance. Open notes are magnolia, neroli and red vanilla orchid balanced with a touch of blush peach. It develops into almond macaroon, honeysuckle nectar and crème de musk and closes with sequoia milkwood, tonka bean and amber linger. I’m all over the amber notes at the end!
To celebrate the debut, Beyoncé will light up the sky with red lights and fog effects. I’ve got to say – there’s definitely something to launching a fragrance called Heat in the dead of winter. Wouldn’t you say?
The plan was to go to a local over-21 movie theater tonight to see New Moon but stupid Carla only thought of buying tickets for the movie the other day and sadly, by then it was sold out. So my plan is still to go to the local over-21 movie theater after work. At least this way I can have some deep fried pickles and sangria during the movie. 😉
I just love Ashley Greene’s look at the LA premiere of New Moon. Celebrity makeup artist Vanessa Scali gave Ashley a classic 60’s look with well-defined eyes with lots of lashes, a strong brow, clean skin and subtle pink/coral on lips and cheeks. Don’t you just love the white liner on her waterline?
To start, Vanessa evened out Ashley’s “nearly flawless skin” with Lancôme’s Effacernes concealer in Light Bisque underneath the eyes. “It gives clean, fresh, flawless coverage,” she said. Bobbi Brown’s Foundation Stick followed. Lancôme’s Blush Subtil in Shimmer Pink Pool topped the apples of the cheeks.
For Ashley’s dramatic eyes, Vanessa swept YSL’s Fard Lumiére Aquarésistant Cream Eyeshadow in Pink Sands over the entire eye. To define and elongate the lash line, Vanessa used Lancôme’s Artliner in Black and lined the inner rims with Shu Uemura’s Painting Liner in White. The finishing touch: a few generous coats of Lancôme’s Ôscillation Mascara in Black for “seductively lengthy lashes,” says Vanessa. Ashley’s brows were sculpted with Lancôme’s Le Crayon Poudre in Brunet.
Finally, Lancôme’s hot new lipstick from the Pout-á-Porter series—L’Absolu Rouge in Chris & Tell—made a sneak peek appearance. The gorgeous hue, which was created for designer Chris Benz’s Spring show, will be available in February. The Chris & Tell waiting list is open at the Saks Fifth Avenue New York counter. Call 212-940-2033 to be added to the waiting list.
Now isn’t this clever? We all want that perfect photo for our Facebook profile or our website, don’t we? I can’t tell you how many times I have tried to take a picture with the intent of posting it here but I delay because my makeup is not right or the lighting is wrong… it’s always something. Now Estee Lauder is helping you do it right. Stop by their counter during this event and they’ll give you a makeover and take your picture so that you can use it on your profile. Isn’t this a great idea?
Check out Estee Lauder’s Facebook page and Estee Lauder’s website for more information. If you attend the event near you, let us know all about it.
This afternoon I met Shu Uemura’s Artistic Director Gina Brooke at Nordstrom’s Fall Trend show in downtown Seattle. Gina looked gorgeous, looking like she just stepped out of this photoshoot. She spent a few minutes showing me how I can get that gorgeous glowing look. Right now she’s traveling across the country and she may be coming to your area soon so you can meet with her too!

Does spending the day checking out different makeup lines and shopping sound like your idea of a good time? Then you have to check out The Makeup Show NYC coming up on May 17th and 18th from 9am to 6pm.
I checked out The Makeup Show in LA in March and had loved it. You can see some of the pictures I took below. I was able to pick up items not usually accessible to me at home (Hello Kevin Aucoin Celestial Powder in Candlelight, I’m talking to you!) courtesy of exhibitors such as Frends Beauty Supply and had the chance to get acquainted with a few new lines like Powderpuff Squad. And have I mentioned the sales? A lot of the booths had sale prices on the products they were selling. Nice!
Tickets to The Makeup Show NYC are available at a discount is purchased in advance by May 14th for $45 for 1-day and $70 for 2-days. Otherwise tickets are available at the door for $65 for 1-day and $85 for 2-days.
Now for some good news… we’re giving away 2 tickets to the show! All you need to do is leave a comment in this post then we’ll pick a winner at random on Wednesday. The winner is able to bring a guest to either day. You must be based in NYC or able to travel there on your own. Good luck!
