My Cosmoprof 2011 Experience in Las Vegas

Cosmoprof 2011 Las Vegas

It seems like it was just a few days ago that I was in Las Vegas for Cosmoprof but it has been 2 weeks already. Isn’t it crazy how time flies? Before we know it, it will be the holidays and I will probably still be playing catch up then. 😉

If you have been reading Product Girl long enough, you may remember that I went to Paris a few years ago and attended the Beyond Beauty show. Cosmoprof is a lot like that show only it seems like this show was much, much larger. Ultimately the show is geared towards distributors and manufacturers but this year Cosmoprof had a huge blogger turn out and I was happy to be one of them. I met with fantastic people, had 2 fantastic manicures and saw everything scheduled to come out for winter, holiday and spring. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience, it was amazing!

The show is overwhelming for the average beauty lover, there is a LOT of ground to cover, so much that it feels like 3 days is not enough time to see it all. I definitely did not see everything I wanted to see but I did spot some good beauty finds along the way. One of my favorite things about the show was the Love + Toast booth. I’ve already told you about this brand but seeing everything they have to offer in person was a whole other story. And could their booth be any more charming? No, I think not.

The Makeup Show NYC Download

Last week, Product Girl was in New York to check out The Makeup Show. Last year’s show was a huge success and this year it  was even better. In total, the show spanned two days, attracted more than 6,000 people and 60 prestige brands. The list of exhibitors was pretty impressive, including show newbies NARS, Yves Saint Laurent, RMS Beauty, Dermalogica and Kevyn Aucoin to name a few.  We both had an incredible time at the show — shopping our tails off and spending some quality time together over a long weekend. Believe it or not, Laurie’s been contributing to Product Girl and talking me off beauty ledges for over a year and a half now and we have never met face-to-face.

We thought we’d share a few highlights from the show with you and give you a glimpse at some of our favorite things we took home. Many brands debuted new items and some even previewed upcoming launches (uh-huh, NARS!). For me, I was all about hitting up the Becca Cosmetics, RMS and OCC booths and that’s where I spent most of my money this year.

Beauty Bests and Spring Trends from Aveeno Ambassadors

You know what happens when you gather 25 beauty and lifestyle bloggers together for a weekend right? It’s a beauty product extravaganza, and a great learning experience. I for one, love to know what products others are obsessing over and even grilled the Aveeno brand and PR teams on their beauty must-haves.  Thought I’d share a few tidbits with you! There were some clear trends: Lots of lashes and bold lips.

When I arrived at the hotel (Shutters in Santa Monica — gorgeous!) and did a quick change in the lobby bathroom post-flight, pre-spa, I met Jodi from Multitasking Mommy. While I was using Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess bronzer to perk up my face, she was using items in her travel-friendly Trish McEvoy planner. It was at that moment I did a d’oh and put my palm on my forehead — I always forget to travel with my planner!

Nude nails are great for spring. We each got a mani/pedi during an afternoon of spa-ing, and many of us opted for the classic nude shade OPI’s Tickle My France-y. It’s a very chameleon shade depending on the light, and now I’m obsessed with it. I need my own bottle!

Lashes and bold lips, worn beautifully by Elizabeth from Beauty Bets and Romy from Romy Raves. They both have lash extensions, and now I’m fixated on getting them myself. Elizabeth did reveal that pre-extensions she was all about Buxom Lash Mascara. To add to the fabulosity, Romy even had hair feather extensions. You can see them in the photo, they are very cool.

All weekend long, Felicia of ThisThatBeauty sported the most amazing red lip, courtesy of Stila’s Long Wear Liquid Lip Color in Fiery. Check out her recap and see for yourself! Amber of Beauty Junkies Unite also wore an impressive pink lip on several occasions. Among the choices in her bag included a bright color from CoverGirl’s Lip Perfection Lipstick line. Amber was raving about the formula, along with the new CoverGirl Natureluxe Balms.

I also took the opportunity to chat with the Aveeno folks and find out what they most loved from the brand. I lost count with how many folks told me they loved the Skin Brightening Daily Scrub.  I shall add that to my Target shopping list! I also love talking with men about the products they use. The brand manager from Aveeno Baby and Sun Care revealed that he uses Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream as aftershave.

So the moral of this post is play up the lashes, don a bold lip and keep your nails neutral this spring. I’m on board!

Disclosure: Aveeno and RecycleBank sponsored my trip and spa services mentioned in this post.

Weekend Download: Aveeno and the Independent Spirit Awards

This past weekend, Product Girl and a team of 25 other bloggers attended the Independent Spirit Awards with Aveeno. It’s part of a new brand ambassador program that we’re participating in with Aveeno. What does that mean? Well we’re going to be giving you the scoop on some new Aveeno products and let me tell you, they’re got some great stuff coming out. It also meant that that we immersed ourselves in all things Aveeno, with a side of celebrity, this past weekend. Above, I’m stationed in the Aveeno lounge at the Independent Spirit Awards. Below, I’m right outside it with Mark Ruffalo! Continue reading Weekend Download: Aveeno and the Independent Spirit Awards

Nordstrom Fall Beauty Trend Show

Last Saturday I attended the Nordstrom Fall Beauty Trend Show in Bellevue, Washington and had some fun checking out new looks for fall, both in fashion and in beauty. One of the most exciting aspects of the show for me is the opportunity to see and meet pros in the beauty industry. Last year I got to meet Madonna’s makeup artist and former Shu Uemura artist director Gina Brook (she’s now artistic director at Hourglass Cosmetics). Saturday’s pro was Nonie Creme, creative director for Butter London. I went out and got a Butter London mani/pedi for the occasion.

The show featured looks from Elie Tahari, Diane Von Furstenberg, Nanette Lepore, Trina Turk and Calvin Klein to name a few. For beauty, artists from Chantecaille, Laura Mercier, Armani, NARS, Bobbi Brown, Lancome, MAC, Trish McEvoy, Dior, Smashbox and Yves Saint Laurent showed us their looks for fall in addition to the latest skincare from Revive, Clarisonic, Kiehls and Philosophy. I took some pictures for you to see and you can find them below. All in all, the ladies looked gorgeous! There’s was even a suprise famous model in the show, Elina Ivanova from America’s Next Top Model cycle 11. She is a local girl after all. 😉

Of course the other exciting part of the event is getting a quick Oxygen Peel at Philosophy and then getting my makeup done. I try to pick a different brand each time and this year I went with Trish McEvoy. I picked up her new Instant Pick Me Up Lip Shimmer, new Instant Eye Lift Concealer and the Beauty Emergency Card for Eyes. I’ll have more on these products for you soon but so far it is love with the lip shimmer and concealer. It’s not a concealer you were everywhere.  Just making at V at the top of the cheek bones towards the brow bone is enough to make you look instantly refreshed.

Julia Roberts at Eat, Pray, Love Premiere

To me, Julia Roberts is one of the most stunning women in the world, more beautiful than Angelina Jolie and in my opinion, a much better actress. I’ll see anything that Julia is in. When Pretty Woman came out, I watched my VHS tape so many times that the VCR broke with the tape inside…. never-mind that it was a completely inappropriate movie for a girl my age at the time. 😉

Tuesday night Julia’s Eat, Pray, Love movie premiered and she looked gorgeous. Did she not? Ever since she signed on with Lancome, she just seems to have this glow about her.  For the event, celebrity makeup artist Genevieve Herr created a chic and modern look that played up Julia’s light brown eyes and her sleek black ensemble.

For a natural complexion, Genevieve used the new Teint Miracle Foundation, an amazing radiance-boosting foundation launching next month, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer and Secret Brightening Powder followed by a cream blush in plum on the apples of the cheeks. She wanted to give Julia soft, smoky eyes with a mix of blacks and plums. To achieve this, she first applied Le Crayon KhĂ´l in Black Ebony to line the eyes and then blended shadows from our new fall French Coquettes collection called the French Touch Color Design Quad. Her lashes were topped with DĂŠfinicils Precious Cells Mascara in Black for a full, natural lash. She finished the look with a neutral lip using Le Lipstique Lip Liner in Sheer Natural, Color Design Lipstick in Love It! and a touch of Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling for the perfect photo-ready pout.

Because I love Julia so much, I will most likely see the movie on Friday… how about you?

January Jones at Mad Men Season 4 Premiere

Last night season 4 of Mad Men premiered (did you watch last night? I love how dramatic Sally Draper is) in New York City and makeup artist Fabiola used NARS Cosmetics on January Jones for the event. A new product was a key part of the look, their upcoming Pure Matte Lipstick. Here’s what Fabiola used on Miss Jones:

  • Bangkok Pure Matte Lipstick (for now, try Dolce Vita Velvet Matte Lip Pencil)
  • Pro-Prime Skin Smoothing Face Prep and Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
  • Brousse Duo Eyeshadow and Eurydice Duo Eyeshadow
  • Douceur Blush

The inspiration for the look was “Catherine Deneuve” – strong eyes and a simple, matte lip. January loved Pure Matte so much that she kept it!

I absolutely adore matte lipsticks and am excited to see the shades NARS will be releasing with this new product. We’ll be sharing more details on this new formula once it is available. For now, we know Pure Matte will be available September 1st at Saks Fifth Avenue. All other products used in the look are currently available at

Ric Pipino's Revolution in Cut at Henri Bendel's
