Celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow has been Keri Russell’s go-to gal for helping her look gorgeous on the red carpet and in photo shoots. This recent look from Friday’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes premiere is just stunning. She looks polished and sleek, love it. Tina created Keri’s look, using Juara Skincare and Votre Vu products.
Make Up For Ever is doing something no other make up brand has done before: they are inviting folks to bring them their make up bags and they will teach them how to use what they already own… regardless of the brand! What brand do you know doing that?
Their goal is to teach you how to actually do your own make up instead of having someone else just apply it on you. They have partnered with Christina Ricci to create a special make up bag for this tour, which will be availablefor purchase at all stops.
This Mobile Make Up School is coming to a city near you:
San Francisco, CA: February 9th – 10th
Las Vegas, NV: February 16th – 17th
Dallas, TX: February 23rd – 24th
Miami, FL: March 2nd – 3rd
New York, NY: March 9th – 10th
Boston, MA: March 23rd – 24th
Chicago, IL: April 6th – 7th
Toronto, ON: April 13th – 14th
You can book an appointment for a 30 minute one-on-one session where a professional artist will go through your bag, provide an interactive, hands-on lesson explaining how to apply your products, and show you how to supplement what you already own to create your most flattering look. You’ll walk away with a new make up bag, a custom face chart and a list of any additional products recommended by the artist. Sessions are available from 12:00pm – 8:00pm on Saturday and 11:00am – 7:00pm on Sunday.
Bonus: a professional photographer will also be on-site to capture each client’s “after” look, which will be uploaded to an album on the MAKE UP FOR EVER USA Facebook page. Nice way to spruce up that profile picture, don’t you think?
Last week I had the chance to travel to New York City and get a sneak peek at the goodies Nordstrom is bringing us as exclusives for their Anniversary sale. As I mentioned last week, you can shop the pre-sale now if you are a Nordstrom cardholder but if you are not, everything seen here and more will be available to you this Friday, July 20th until August 5th, prices go up on August 6th. If you’re a cardholder, you can also earn double points on your beauty purchases from now until the 19th… rack up those rewards!
This is just a sampling of the goodies available during the store, there are many more available online and in stores. As beauty lovers, this is the event we all live for every summer and I was glad to have the chance to check these out. The thing about the anniversary sale is that it is all about the value. Retailers, and Nordstrom in particularly, do not have sales is cosmetics but there are definitely values to be had during the year. This is one of those occasions and some of the values here are phenomenal, not to mention all the great GWPs.
Nordstrom Beauty Directors Cheri Botiz and Tawni Hart hosted a great event at their Treasure & Bond store in SoHo complete with pampering from makeup artists, manicurists and hairstylists. Not a bad way to spend a hot, muggy New York City day, right? For our hair needs, a team from Blow was on hand to style our hair, they created this gorgeous braided up-do on an editor. We also had manicurists from Deborah Lippmann tending to our nails and Nordstrom Beauty Stylists touching up our makeup. With the humidity melting the makeup off my face, I needed all the help I could get!
Let’s take a look at some of my favorites from the exclusives I had a chance to see when I was in New York…
Few things in life make me want to get out of bed early but the Nordstrom Anniversary sale is one of them. The sale starts on July 20th but if you’re a Fashion Rewards member, you have early access to all the great Nordstrom exclusives… and there are a lot of them! If you’re new to the whole Anniversary exclusive thing, get your plastic ready. As part of the celebration, Nordstrom works with our favorite brands to bring you exclusive sets you will not find anywhere else. There’s also great values to be had with these exclusives and who doesn’t love a good value? Maybe that Capital One baby Jimmy Fallon keeps talking to in commercials.
I’m in New York City right now and will be attending a sneak preview of the best Nordstrom has to offer for the anniversary sale so make sure you’re following me (@productgirl) and Nordstrom (@nordstrombeauty) on Twitter. I’ll be tweeting sneak peeks at what’s in store for us during the sale and for the holiday season (yay!!) as well. Have anything you’re curious about from the sale? Let me know in the comments and I’ll do my best to get your question answered! For now, let’s take a peek at some of the exclusives…
Last February I was standing backstage at the New York Armory covering the Marc Jacobs show during New York Fashion Week. At the time I was working for Nordstrom and we were bouncing from show to show, we attended 26 shows that week. It was an amazing experience but one of the highlights of that week was backstage with the NARS team for that show. When we arrived, we found out the call time was moved up so all the models were already finished but we stuck around to learn about the look. At one point, I walked past THE Francois Nars and smiled at him then proceeded to silently freak out… I had walked past him and he smiled back! I met quite a few amazing makeup artists that week but seeing Francois Nars took the cake. If Sookie Stackhouse was around to read my thoughts, all she would get was “Oh my God, Oh my God”.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago. I’m in Nordstrom’s Bellevue Square store and it’s packed. There are two rows of customers getting their makeup done and I’m checking in to be one of them. NARS brought in its best and brightest makeup artists for the event, among them Janice Daoud and Jake Broullard. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting them before and if you’re a regular at Nordstrom Trend Shows, you might know them too. As part of the event, NARS fans who purchased one of the NARS books would have a chance to meet Francois. Special event products were also on sale the occasion, including two limited edition eyeshadow palettes and the Modern Kabuki brush set that was available during the holidays.
Of course I’m going to The Makeup Show Chicago! We look forward to this every year, and while we didn’t make TMS in New York, it’s OK, because the Chicago show is going to be amazing. It’s the second year in the Windy City, and the list of exhibitors keeps on growing. It kicks off on Sunday, June 17 (Father’s Day, actually) and continues through Monday, June 18.
I’ll be in on the show floor Sunday, and can’t wait to see all of the brilliant artistry in action. Here are a few other things on my agenda:
1) NARS Pop-Up Shop. Obvi, right? I was so excited to hear that my fav brand is bringing its 413 Blkr Pop-Up to the show floor — the shop is in the actual boutique’s signature black, white and ‘Jungle Red’ décor!
2) Artist Brushes. TMS is all about artists, and The Makeup Show’s Artists, led by James Vincent (who has worked with countless celebs, including Lady Gaga), are selling a limited edition brush line exclusively at the show. The brushes are personalized with the artist’s signature and includes their must-have tools. I love learning from the best, so can’t wait to see!
3) Embryolisse. Somehow I was unable to track down any Embryolisse in the 20 pharmacies I stopped in while in Paris last fall. What gives? At least I know they’ll be at TMS!
4) Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. Can’t wait to see the newly packaged Lip Tars and pick up a tube of the raved about Tinted Moisturizer. I missed out on it last year, and I’ve been kicking myself since.
Also, for those coming to town, it’s also the Taste of Randolph (yum). Randolph is “restaurant row” so not only will you be beautified, you will also be well-fed. Can’t wait! If anyone reading is going, let us know. Would love to say hello on Sunday!
So what are you up to on October 13th? Me, oh nothing… just hosting my 1st ever beauty event here in Seattle!
This Thursday I will be hosting Melvita’s 1-Year Anniversary Party at Pacific Place here in Seattle along with the fabulous people from CRAVE Seattle. Join us for organic wine from Snoqualmie, small bites by Gourmondo Catering, live music and amazing discounts. Along with the Melvita team, we’ll help you set up a personal skin care regimen and send you home with an essential skin care product for fall. I have been playing with some of their products for a few weeks now and I’m excited introduce the line to everyone.
While I am wishing I was in New York to stop by all the fabulous events being held there tonight, I’ll be stepping out in Seattle tonight. My first stop is Nordstrom for a little tweet-up then afterwards I am heading to University Village for a little more shopping for their FNO event today from 3pm to 9pm.
As part of the event, the first 200 lucky shoppers who check in at the FNO station located between Ben Bridge and Sole Food will receive a free deluxe U Village swag bag with goodies from many of U Village merchants.
Some of the highlights include “Shopping, Sweets and Sweeps,” an event hosted by Cole Haan where shoppers can enter to win a new pair of Cole Haan shoes every month for a year. Anthropologie will be hosting a trunk show featuring their new fall fashions and H&M will offer a $10 off any purchase of $50 or more for this special night only. Swink Style Bar is offering discounts, raffles, hair and makeup consultations and champagne.
You can find more information on the event here, including how to win a $500 U Village shopping spree by donating new or gently-used coat to Wellspring Family Services. RSVP on Twitter and Facebook!
It seems like it was just a few days ago that I was in Las Vegas for Cosmoprof but it has been 2 weeks already. Isn’t it crazy how time flies? Before we know it, it will be the holidays and I will probably still be playing catch up then.
If you have been reading Product Girl long enough, you may remember that I went to Paris a few years ago and attended the Beyond Beauty show. Cosmoprof is a lot like that show only it seems like this show was much, much larger. Ultimately the show is geared towards distributors and manufacturers but this year Cosmoprof had a huge blogger turn out and I was happy to be one of them. I met with fantastic people, had 2 fantastic manicures and saw everything scheduled to come out for winter, holiday and spring. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience, it was amazing!
The show is overwhelming for the average beauty lover, there is a LOT of ground to cover, so much that it feels like 3 days is not enough time to see it all. I definitely did not see everything I wanted to see but I did spot some good beauty finds along the way. One of my favorite things about the show was the Love + Toast booth. I’ve already told you about this brand but seeing everything they have to offer in person was a whole other story. And could their booth be any more charming? No, I think not.
Last week, Product Girl was in New York to check out The Makeup Show. Last year’s show was a huge success and this year it was even better. In total, the show spanned two days, attracted more than 6,000 people and 60 prestige brands. The list of exhibitors was pretty impressive, including show newbies NARS, Yves Saint Laurent, RMS Beauty, Dermalogica and Kevyn Aucoin to name a few. We both had an incredible time at the show — shopping our tails off and spending some quality time together over a long weekend. Believe it or not, Laurie’s been contributing to Product Girl and talking me off beauty ledges for over a year and a half now and we have never met face-to-face.
We thought we’d share a few highlights from the show with you and give you a glimpse at some of our favorite things we took home. Many brands debuted new items and some even previewed upcoming launches (uh-huh, NARS!). For me, I was all about hitting up the Becca Cosmetics, RMS and OCC booths and that’s where I spent most of my money this year.
