Have you seen the commercials for the new Axe Twist line? I love their commercials, they are always very clever and this one was intriguing. Axe Twist is the newest fragrance from Axe, a fragrance that changes over time to keep us girls interested. Luckily Axe approached the Beauty Bloggerati and we were able to experience the Twist for ourselves.

Axe worked with fragrance designer Ann Gottlieb (the nose behind fragrances included Obsession, Eternity, Daisy for Marc Jacobs, Covet for Sarah Jessica Parker and many more) to create this new scent. Maybe that’s why I was instantly reminded of an expensive cologne and a boy who wore it that I crushed very, very hard on. Oh how I loved the way that he smelled.

Twist starts out very fresh and clean with citrus notes as it opens. It is very bright and young in the beginning but as the notes of cedar and sandalwood also in the fragrance start emerging, this is toned down and the woody notes warms things up nicely. The result is sexy and masculine, I definitely wouldn’t mind my gentleman caller rocking some Twist.

Here’s where you can try Axe Twist. We are giving away 15 sets of Axe Twist for the boy/man in your life. Each set includes a body spray, deodorant stick and antiperspirant stick. To enter just leave a comment on this post from now until Monday, April 19th at midnight PST and the lucky 15 winners will be chosen at random the following day. Good luck!

Skin Care: Splurge or Save?

My friends at Daily Makeover have some great tips on what to spend your money on when it comes to skincare. Let’s see what they say…

You want the best for your skin–it is, after all your largest organ and a healthy-looking outside is indicative of a healthy inside. But does having great skin mean you need to spend $400 on so-called miracle creams? We didn’t think so, so we asked Annet King, director of global education at the International Dermal Institute to help us make some sense of the skincare aisle. Read on for her no-nonsense skincare tips on what products you can scrimp on and which ones you should splurge for.

Cleanser
Cleanser is one of those products that you’re literally washing down the drain: It doesn’t stay on your skin long enough to benefit from tons of different pricey ingredients. Instead, King advises saving your money and choosing a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser that will remove dirt and oil and won’t irritate your skin. We like: Johnson & Johnson Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash.

Moisturizer
Since moisturizer not only sits on your skin all day, but is also expected to hydrate and protect it, King recommends dropping a few extra dollars on this category. “Look for a light and gentle moisturizing lotion that’s suitable for your skin type and that doesn’t contain any irritants–otherwise you’ll run into skin problems that you didn’t have before,” she says. We like: Bliss Triple Oxygen+C Energizing Cream.

Sunscreen
Since UV rays are the leading cause of aging and damage in the skin, you would think you’d need to spend major cash to get the best protection. Not so says King, who attributes major advances in sunscreen technology and wide availability to the cheap, high quality products currently on the shelves at your local drugstore. We like: Aveeno Positively Ageless Sunblock Lotion SPF 55.

Eye Cream
Since your eyes are the first areas to show the signs of aging, King suggests you invest in an eye cream with high concentrations of retinol, vitamin C, peptides and antioxidants to give you the best results. We like: Lancome Génifique Eye. However, if you’re not concerned about lines and are just looking for something to soothe tired eyes, King says that you can pick up an inexpensive, fragrance-free, cooling eye gel.

Exfoliator
The key here, says King, is keeping your skin looking healthy and radiant. While there are tons of cheap skin polishes out there, most of them use harsh granules which can damage or scratch your skin. King advises you skip them in favor of a slightly pricier exfoliator that uses less-abrasive chemicals to get rid of dead skin cells. We like: Dermalogica AGE Smart Multivitamin Thermafoliant.

Face Mask
Face masks are another example of where new innovations mean lots of choices for those on a budget. Whether your concerns are acne or dehydration, there’s a quality drugstore face mask for you. We like: Yes To Tomatoes Total Treatment Facial Mask.

Anti-Aging Treatments
If there’s one place to really drop some cash, King says its here. “Definitely invest as anti-aging treatments are what really helps to get results on the skin. You just can’t get this type of ingredient technology for cheap, as you need a higher percentage of active ingredients to see real results,” she says. We like: Kate Somerville HydraKate Line Release.

So the next time you’re stocking up on skincare essentials, keep these simple tips in mind and you’ll not only see a more radiant complexion, you’ll also save yourself some cash.

Beauty Bloggerati Spotlight: Our Favorite Perfumes

Bloggerati Logo

beauty-bloggerati-perfume

I’ve loved perfume ever since I was a little girl. I use to love going to Nordstrom with my mother. I’d break away from her and go to the beauty department and before long, I’d befriend someone, get a few samples and find my way back to my mother. By the time I was in 3rd grade, I had my own stash of perfume samples that I treasured.

One of my favorite perfumes (I can’t narrow it down to just one!) is Serge Lutens Clair de Musc, it is a beautiful powdered musk with notes of bergamot, neroli and iris. I picked it up a few years ago and I love this perfume so much that I ration myself to make the bottle last as long as possible. I try to only wear it on special occasions and holidays but sometimes I sneak in a spritz just because.

So what perfumes my fellow beauty bloggerati loving right now? Keep reading to find out!

Beauty Bloggerati Must Have Makeup Brushes

november-favorite-brushes

Brushes are an obsession of mine right now… one of many obsessions. :) I recently picked up the Laura Mercier Deluxe Mini Brush Set, another MAC 217 brush to apply concealer and Shu Uemura Natural 18 Goat Brush for foundation.

With the Laura Mercier set, I just couldn’t pass it up. How perfect is this for traveling? I’m taking this baby to Fashion Week in February for sure. That was my excuse for picking this set up… plus with the Sephora Friends & Family sale and a giftcard for my birthday I paid about $20 for this set.

With the MAC 217 brush, I recently spent some quality time with a senior artists at my local MAC store and I was surprised when used this brush on me to apply concealer. In fact, this artist actually owns quite a few 217 brushes and uses each one differently. The fibers in this brush are fantastic for a natural looking and buildable application. Plus the size is perfect for the undereye area or a spot application. When Rick was done, my skin was gorgeous… and looked like it was completely bare.

When I picked up the Shu Uemura 18 brush, I had the same premise in mind… relying on the fibers in the brush to give myself a more natural application with foundation. The MAC 217 brush is great but in this case, I wanted to get something bigger to cover a wider area. When I met Gina Brooke and had an artist at the Shu counter use my makeup, they used this brush and when you combine this brush and the Shu Uemura Nobara Cream Cover Stick Foundation… perfection!

I’ve decided I can’t live without these brushes so I wanted to know what brushes my fellow Beauty Bloggerati were loving…

Beauty Bloggerati's Favorite At Work Products

At any given time, I have about 5 hand creams and maybe 8 to 10 lip balms in my desk drawer at work so this made me wonder… what do my fellow Daily Makeover Beauty Bloggerati have in their desks? I’ll tell you. :)

Bloggerati Logo

eos-organic-lip-balm-smooth-sphere Erika from Makeup Bag’s at work must have is Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment. She applies and re-applies this all day long.

Lisa at These Lips Were Made for Glossin’ wouldn’t be complete without her Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment, YSL Touche Eclat in Luminous Ivory, water and her Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Snow for when she needs a touch up.

Megan with Beauty on a Dime keeps her EOS Smooth Sphere Summer Fruit Lip Balm at hand to keep her lips soft and yummy, her Dr. Brandt Spot Blotter and Concealer for those deadline-induced stress breakouts and Yes To Carrots Hand & Elbow Cream to keep her hard-typing digits nice and soft.

Paul at Beyond Beauty Basics keeps a tube of Save the Males from Origins for Men in his desk at work to keep the air in his office from drying out his skin.

Tammy at A Mom in Red High Heels keeps hydrated and awake while she works. Bioelements Instant Emollient Lip Balm keeps her lips smooth, Kathy Ireland Hydrating Body Lotion in Green Tea & Aloe Vera keeps her hands moisturized without feeling greasy (and the smell is refreshing), Kerstin Florian Spa Face Aromatherapy Neoli Water is her quick refresher for her face and Belli Motherhood Eye Brightening Cream hydrates her eyes and helps reduce puffiness and under eye circles.

Julia at All About the Pretty loves hand creams from Juara Skincare and Jurlique, Darphin Lip Balm, some EO Antibacterial Spray in Lavender and a Paddywax Soy Candle in Mint Mojito.

Bailey from Makeover Momma loves her Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Foundation because she applies it once and it doesn’t budge all day and she uses their Skin Rever-Upper as a primer along with it. She also loves the Eucerin Redness Relief Pen, because it works to conceal “flushed” areas or flared pimples. But her #1 most used product is Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick, it looks like a giant gluestick but it hydrates any area of skin and makes for the best chapstick ever!

palmers-cocoa-butter-formula-swivel-stick Daneen at Spoiled Pretty also relies on Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick to keep lips soft and hydrated all day. It only costs a couple of bucks; so she keeps one at the office, one in her handbag and one at home. She also has a mini tube of Bath & Body Works Anti-Bacterial Moisturizing Hand Lotion (in Warm Vanilla Sugar) stashed in her desk drawer to moisturize without leaving her keyboard and mouse greasy.

Marlena at Makeup Geek likes using  Korres Lip Butter to keep lips moist and add a little color. Doesn’t hurt that it smells good too. She also love’s Bath & Body Works Lay It On Thick Intense Moisture Shea Body Cream.

Marta at Talking Makeup keeps it pretty with Giorgio Armani High Precision Retouch and Giorgio Armani Master Corrector for under eye dark circles, Clinique Superbalanced Powder Makeup SPF 15 Mineral Rich Formula to perk up her complexion in a hurry, Christian Siriano for VS Makeup Lipgloss in Sublime for a gorgeous sheer coral lip, DiorShow Brow Styler to reign in her brows and MAC Minerlize Skinfinish in Blonde to put some color on her cheeks.

What do you keep at work in your desk? I want to know… let me know in the comments! :)
