Beauty VIP of the Week: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains

YSL Glossy Stains

I gave up on eyeshadow this summer, everything simply slides off my lids in a few hours anyhow. I have not given up on lip color though and I never will. That would be a crime against beauty! These YSL Glossy Stains are not new but I am hopelessly addicted to them and try to convert everyone I know to them.

The good news is that I have been successful on more than a few occasions with converts but the bad news is that I want them all. For awhile I couldn’t set foot in Nordstrom or Sephora without picking one up.

New! Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Sheer Candy Collection

I have been having a relationship with YSL’s Rouge Volupte in Opera Rose lately. I picked up this shade during the Sephora sale recently and I’ve been wearing quite a bit of it lately. It’s like a Nicki Minaj pink but YSL style. Having just heard that YSL is coming out with an addition to the Volupte family has me excited.

The newest formula in the Volupte family is Volupte Sheer Candy and it will be hitting counters very soon. It comes in 6 shades and this lipstick is packed with skincare ingredients to take care of your lips. The shades include:

  • N°1 – Lush Coconut – a touch of deliciously golden freshness.
  • N°2 – Dewy Papaya – a discreet orange-pink pleasure.
  • N°3 – Juicy Grapefruit – a candy pink that sparks envy.
  • N°4 – Succulent Pomegranate – a sinful desire for a fruity pink.
  • N°5 – Mouthwatering Berry – a bite of the forbidden fruit.
  • N°6 – Luscious Cherry – a candy delight.

This formula has 35% lip care ingredients and makes some interesting claims for a lipstick, claims I intend to investigate:

  • Moisturizing action:  lips are hydrated immediately and 8 hours after application.
  • Smoothing action: lips are 47% smoother immediately after application and 21% after 4 weeks of use.
  • Plumping action: lips appear 19% fuller immediately after application.
  • Fine Line Reduction: fine lines are reduced immediately.

YSL’s Volupte Sheer Candy will retail for $30 and will be out in May at Sephora and in June everywhere else. Are you on board?

Seeking Bold Color? Pink Cheeks Offer a Perky Pick-Me Up for Spring

This spring is all about color. And why should it be any other way? After this long (and still present) winter, I am ready to embrace brightness. My bold color d’jour is pink. And not just any pink, but the hottest damn pink you can find. For my cheeks, especially.  Sporting a bright pink pop of pink on the cheeks makes me feel so alive, and definitely puts off a healthy vibe. And if you shy away from bold color on your lips, this is a wearable alternative to incorporate the bold spring trend to your everyday.

Here are my pink cheek picks!

YSL Creme de Blush in Fuchsia Temptation is probably the brightest pink blush I’ve ever used. I’m in love with the color, and I even like how the fuschia is mirrored on the inner rim of the packaging. Small details really get me, OK?  Also, this formula is like a comfy velvet couch for the cheeks. It blends down to a powder finish, and I love how I can just lightly dab my fingers in the product and press on the apples of my cheeks. I’d say impossible to overdo, but with a pink this bright, that might not be entirely true.

Applying Givenchy’s Blush Gelée in Candied Pink is like melting a popsicle on your cheeks. You have the jelly finish, which is unbelivably cool, that becomes one with your skin. This is definitely a stain, so it’s very long wearing. I think it works best on a more natural face. This isn’t one to layer over powders or even foundations. It is however, fab over a tinted moisturizer.  I see this being a favorite of mine this summer!

Tarte brought its “skinvigorating” complex to a powder blush, in shades we all know and love from its famed Cheek Stain line-up. These Amazonian Clay 12-hour blushes are full of color and pigment, and look so beautiful on the skin. They seem to have built-in dimension — i.e. a nice sheen that brings your face to life. I love Amused, a bright pink (almost as bright as YSL’s!), but the Cheek Stain lover in me also has a special affection for Dollface (one of my “firsts”).

Urban Decay’s Afterglow Glide-on Cheek Tint in Crush satisfies my cream blush tooth. This is a more traditional cream blush, and it glides on the skin like silk. It’s very buildable and works well over existing face makeup. This shade makes me feel like I’m sporting that after work-out glow, which, ironically, I never get after working out.

Now that you’ve heard me profess my passion for pink, are you on board? Let us know if you have any pink recommendations? There can never be too many in my makeup bag!

Best of 2010: Our Favorite Lip Products

It was really hard to narrow down our favorite lip products of 2010, because we saw the arrival of so many amazing products. And for as much of a gloss fiend I consider myself to be, most of the lippies I tipped my hat to in 2010 are lipsticks! Here’s a closer look at what we deem to be the best of the best in lips for 2010.

Chanel Rouge Coco - It all began with those gorgeous ads of Vanessa Paradis wearing Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle. I saw these in nealry every bus station and train stop in Chicago for months. Great ads, yes. But, absolutely great lipstick to back it up! I love the color selection and the formula works great on my lips. It’s long-lasting and looks and feels luxurious. My favorite shade, and I now have many, is by far Chintz from the Chanel’s Fall Collection.

NARS Pure Matte – The return of the matte lip for fall was a trend that made me wary, but we both love NARS Pure Matte. These are a fresh and updated version to the matte lip and this formula does not give you “Sahara lips.” Carla got a lot of wear time with Volga, and I rotate often between Bangkok and Tashkent, the perfect rosy and nude, respectively, shades.

Tarte Natural Lip Stain – Tarte’s Natural Lipsurgence Lip Stain revolutionized stains for us by introducing a glossy, moisturizing one this spring. They’ve got jojoba seed oil, vitamins E and C and, like all Tarte products, none of the “bad” stuff. They have a refreshing minty effect as well due to the addition of peppermint oil. We always have one of these nearby — a must if you haven’t tried yet!

Chanel Extrait de Gloss - Before you wonder if I’ve lost that loving feeling for gloss, just know, it’s still there! Chanel’s Extrait de Gloss is easily my favorite gloss launch of the year. The colors are so pigmented, yet sheer and juicy (I’m FULL of contradictions in this one, I know!). I love the nude shades, but the bright pink Insolence has left a lasting impression on me.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture – Carla’s all about this lipstick in Rose Stiletto, a rich berry rose that livens up her lips. The formula is feather light and it glides on the lips ever so easily. This lipstick is packed with pigment for full coverage and doesn’t dry lips out while it gives long lasting wear. Even though it’s got staying power, she can’t help but constantly pull this out of her makeup bag to touch up… the tube is so chic!

Carmex Moisture Plus Tinted Lip Balm – I discovered these in the fall, but now that it’s winter, I’ve been putting these on full-time duty. They’re the Carmex we know and love, but updated and with a tint! A perfect tint of color — a neutral pink or peach option. The fact that these are only $3 blows my mind.

MUFE Rouge Artist Intense - What impressed us the most with Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense is the pigmentation and the finishes. Not everyone likes a matte lip, or a satin, etc. — and these come in three different finishes across 50 shades. I really like the bright satin pink (#37) used just slightly on with a clear gloss over it. It’s very brightening to my face. Carla did an awesome ombre lip with some of the nude shades for the MUFE Lips to Love contest. While we didn’t win (tear!), it was fun to do!

Fresh Sugar Plum Tinted Lip Treatment – The original Fresh Lip Treatment is a legend in beauty circles, but with each new release, they keep upstaging themselves! Sugar Plum is my favorite yet because of its light berry color. It’s so flattering on my fair skin, not too dark or bright, and I love the scent and flavor. Can’t get enough of this product.

Holiday Glamour and Sparkle Go-To Products

I love a little sparkle and glamour around the holidays, and have been favoring a very simple eye look that incorporates both.

  • NARS Etrusque Eyeshadow – This may be the most perfect gold eyeshadow ever! It was released with NARS Holiday collection and I can’t get enough of it. I like to pat this all over the lid for a sparkling eye.
  • Lorac Front of the Line PRO Liquid Eyeliner – This liquid liner is easy peasy to use — it’s smudgeproof, waterproof and has that flexible tip that makes application simple. Thin line, thick line, lower and upper lash line — this does it all. AND I love that if I get some on my eyelashes it doesn’t make them sticky and clumpy and affect my mascara application. Anyone else know what I’m talking about?
  • MAC Pearlglide Intense Eyeliner in Black Swan – I was very happy to see that MAC included new Pearlglides in A Tartan Tale. These are one of my favorite eyeliners across any brand — they don’t move or wear at all during the day! Black Swan is an intense black with silver shimmers and it makes a mean smokey eye. Love this — just don’t get it on the waterline (ouch!).
  • YSL Faux Cils Mascara – This mascara is legendary, and for good reason. It gives extraordinary length to lashes, really giving it that fake lashes look. I use a few coats to really glam up the eyes, but it truly does its business in just one.
  • Tarte Limited Edition Gold-Toned Picture Perfect Eyelash Curler – Tarte’s Picture Perfect Eyelash Curler is my current go-to eyelash curler, and when I saw this bedazzled gold version for the holidays I squealed with happiness! It’s the same amazing curler, but the purple sparkles make me feel special. I picked up a few for stocking stuffers after Thanksgiving, but sadly, it’s sold out now.

(L-R) MAC Pearglide in Black Swan, NARS Etrusque, Lorac Front of the Line PRO (three different lines)

I’m also loving big chunky jeweled necklaces. The one above I bought at Ann Taylor Loft earlier this year — they have a ton of really cute options. It’s definitely an easy way to glam up a simple black dress or even a t-shirt and jeans!

What’s everyone else loving for holiday beauty? Do tell!

Disclosure: We received a sample of the Lorac Front of the Line PRO, YSL Faux Cils and NARS Estruque (but we also purchased the NARS on our own as well!)

YSL's Solaris Collection for Summer Gives Me the Blues

YSL’s Solaris Collection for summer gives me the blues, in a very blissful, tropical way. It all started with this image of the Lumière Aquarésistant Water Resistant Cream Eyeshadow in Riviera Blue. Of all the blues that I’ve seen this summer, this is the standout for me. I think it’s a perfect shade to pat on the lid or smudge across the lower lash line. Yeah, I’ve definitely got the YSL blues.

Now, I find myself attracted to blue everything. Like this sweater from Banana Republic. I picked this up over Memorial Day weekend and it’s the perfect summer sweater. I love the ombre effect.

And this necklace from Anthropologie is officially on my must-have list. I think it would look great with Riviera Blue and a white shirt.

I love a big chunky watch, and I’m gravitating towards this Fossil one in blue.

I also grabbed these Steve Madden sandals at Nordstrom recently. I love them! They seem to go with everything. And of course they are a perfect shade of turquoise.

YSL’s Solaris collection is available at counters and Sephora and I urge you to check out Riviera Blue. It’s so pretty and very wearable even for those who don’t step outside the neutral zone. And it’s limited edition! The collection features several new, permanent shades of Gloss Pur and another, also permanent, shade of Lumière Aquarésistant in Golden Sands.

We’d also be interested in hearing about your color of the season. Let us know what it is, and your inspiration!

Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Bath, Body & Fragrance

To wrap up our favorite products for 2009, we’re reviewing our picks for bath and body and perfume.

Lisa Hoffman was high on our list of favorites this year, I happen to be obsessed with everything Lisa Hoffman now thanks to my love of her Madagascar Orchid Variations. Lisa Hoffman Bath Soak is a bath experience. To soak in a tub with her bath soak to love her. The same Madagascar Orchid scent is in this product and it is such a beautiful scent.

The La Mer Body Refiner is smooth skin in a tube. It is infused with diamonds and exfoliates the skin without being harsh. Plus is smells amazing, it has a completely refreshing scent for the shower. It is definitely pricey but I loved my sample so much that I went out and splurged on a tube of this.

Anyone with dry feet knows the “slather in vaseline and put on some socks” trick for softer feet but that doesn’t last very long. I don’t know about you but laying on thick layers of vaseline on a daily basis doesn’t appeal to me. With Barielle Total Foot Care Cream, I put the Vaseline behind me this year. It is effective without having to lay it on thick and does wonders for my heels.

Bath & Body Works Triple Moisture Shower Cream is exactly what it sounds like – moisturizing as can be. This may be B&BWs best formulation yet. Laurie’s a huge fan of this lotion-esque body wash and is currently housing the Twilight Woods scent in her shower.

Both a good buy and a fantastic formula, Vaseline Sheer Infusion was a great new product of ’09. It has multiple layers of moisture (they call it Stratys 3) and absorbs really deeply into the skin. We’re a fan because it doesn’t leave our skin with a thick feeling but has the benefits of a deep moisturizer. The Mineral Renewal is our top pick!

Being musk lovers, Tom Ford White Suede was an immediate hit with us. The whole Tom Ford Private Blend White Musk collection is just beautiful but White Suede is our favorite. We’ll take a closer look at that one soon… I promise.

Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne makes us feel all warm and sultry. This floral features blackberry, rose and sandalwood notes for just the right amount of mystery. It’s completely feminine and totally seductive, just like Paris.

When Kenzo takes one of their best sellers and puts a twist on it, we’re all for it and Kenzo Amour Florale is just such a perfume. The original KenzoAmour is warm and sexy but Kenzo changed it up a little bit. KenzoAmour Florale was introduced with notes of neroli, grapefruit and black currant providing the burst of freshness we were looking for.

Is it the gorgeous bottle or the gorgeous perfume? Well, it’s actually both. Marc Jacobs Lola is a warm floral that Laurie instantly fell in love with at first glance and sniff.

We love Philosophy’s State of Grace perfumes and we loved seeing them add a new perfume to their line of fragrances. Philosophy Unconditional Love is a great addition to their fragrances. If you ask us, the fruitiness in Unconditional Love is just what they needed in their line up.

So that’s it! I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing our favorite beauty products from 2009. We’ll be back next year with more of our favorites. ;) We’re excited by all the new collections we’re seeing so 2010 looks like it will be a great year. What have been some of your favorite products this year? We want to hear all about it in the comments.

Yves Saint Laurent Your Lovely Palettes

Yves Saint Laurent Your Lovely Palettes

Speaking of beautiful packaging, I am loving the limited edition lip and eye duo palettes from afar. They are part of the Yves Saint Laurent holiday collection and the packaging is inspired by the luggage tags featured on their handbags. The colors in these duos are vibrant and catch the eye, don’t they?

The Your Lovely Palette Lip Duo includes a shiny rose-beige lipstick and a pearly champagne gloss with mini applicator. Then the Your Lovely Palette Eyeshadow Duo includes an intense violet and pearly lavender eyeshadows. The gold (lip duo) and silver (eye duo) compacts are engraved with the emblematic Yves Saint Laurent heart and their black vinyl straps can be used on a key ring, hand bag or belt. Handy, but why would you want to do that? If I owned one of these palettes, I’d keep them safe and cushioned at all times! :)

YSL Friends and Family Sale

December 2009 is one for the history books! YSL Beauty is having a sale. I repeat, SALE! Of the 20% off, friends and family variety. This is a first for the brand that never goes on sale. The only tangential way YSL goes on sale is if you purchase through Sephora during their friends & family sales. So I say, this is pretty awesome!

YSL-Friends-Family-Sale

From December 14 through December 20, YSL is offering 20% off at checkout with code FF2009 and 3-day complimentary shipping. If you are a YSL lover, this is a great chance to stock up on faves. And this is an even better chance for those new to the brand to try their cult favorites! Touche Éclat or Rouge Volupté (#1 Nude Beige is a-maz-ing! ) anyone?
