Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Beauty Exclusives 2014

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Beauty Exclusives unveiled earlier this month are almost coming to an end so I thought I should share my picks from the sale before it ends this weekend, the things I’m lusting over as we speak.

You probably know by now that Nordstrom does not have sales on beauty but what they do instead is offer fantastic values with sets from brands we all know and love. Some items are discounted (more on that below) but most are value priced, not to mention exclusive to Nordstrom for the time being.

Ready? Here we go!

Beauty Bests and Spring Trends from Aveeno Ambassadors

You know what happens when you gather 25 beauty and lifestyle bloggers together for a weekend right? It’s a beauty product extravaganza, and a great learning experience. I for one, love to know what products others are obsessing over and even grilled the Aveeno brand and PR teams on their beauty must-haves.  Thought I’d share a few tidbits with you! There were some clear trends: Lots of lashes and bold lips.

When I arrived at the hotel (Shutters in Santa Monica — gorgeous!) and did a quick change in the lobby bathroom post-flight, pre-spa, I met Jodi from Multitasking Mommy. While I was using Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess bronzer to perk up my face, she was using items in her travel-friendly Trish McEvoy planner. It was at that moment I did a d’oh and put my palm on my forehead — I always forget to travel with my planner!

Nude nails are great for spring. We each got a mani/pedi during an afternoon of spa-ing, and many of us opted for the classic nude shade OPI’s Tickle My France-y. It’s a very chameleon shade depending on the light, and now I’m obsessed with it. I need my own bottle!

Lashes and bold lips, worn beautifully by Elizabeth from Beauty Bets and Romy from Romy Raves. They both have lash extensions, and now I’m fixated on getting them myself. Elizabeth did reveal that pre-extensions she was all about Buxom Lash Mascara. To add to the fabulosity, Romy even had hair feather extensions. You can see them in the photo, they are very cool.

All weekend long, Felicia of ThisThatBeauty sported the most amazing red lip, courtesy of Stila’s Long Wear Liquid Lip Color in Fiery. Check out her recap and see for yourself! Amber of Beauty Junkies Unite also wore an impressive pink lip on several occasions. Among the choices in her bag included a bright color from CoverGirl’s Lip Perfection Lipstick line. Amber was raving about the formula, along with the new CoverGirl Natureluxe Balms.

I also took the opportunity to chat with the Aveeno folks and find out what they most loved from the brand. I lost count with how many folks told me they loved the Skin Brightening Daily Scrub.  I shall add that to my Target shopping list! I also love talking with men about the products they use. The brand manager from Aveeno Baby and Sun Care revealed that he uses Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream as aftershave.

So the moral of this post is play up the lashes, don a bold lip and keep your nails neutral this spring. I’m on board!

Disclosure: Aveeno and RecycleBank sponsored my trip and spa services mentioned in this post.

Splurge vs. Steal: Trish McEvoy Lash Enhancing Eyeliner & Physicians Formula Lash Boosting Eyeliner

Looking back, 2010 was all about lashes. We were flooded with products meant to condition and lengthen the appearance of lashes, from serums to mascaras, and now eyeliners.  I’m all for increasing lash fullness, so this is a welcoming innovation from where I’m sitting. The two products we’re highlighting here, Trish McEvoy Lash Enhancing Liner and Physicians Formula  Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum, both boast the same value prop: enhance eyelashes and improve lash fullness, but have a price difference of $80+. An incredible difference, which begs the question: if they do the same thing, why on earth would one pay more? Here’s our thoughts.

Best of 2010: Favorite Eye Products

In 2010, we saw many beautiful eyeshadows and tons of color. We had a lot of fun with our eye makeup this year, but our picks for favorite products are what we see as staples day in and out. Eye makeup that we need to survive, ya know the feeling? Here’s what we deemed to be the best!

Urban Decay Naked Palette – What kind of 2010 wrap-up would this be without talking about the Naked Palette? This literally contains everything you need to create every type of eye imaginable, all within the beloved neutral range of course. Something tells me this will carry on as a favorite for many into next year, especially because it’s still one of the most sought after eyeshadow palettes! Worth every penny.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wearing Cream Shadow, Shore – Bobbi released some beautiful metallic cream shadows with her summer Beach Club collection, but it’s Shore, the barely there matte nude, that has stayed in the makeup bag since summer. It’s the perfect eye base — layered with shadow or just on its own.

NARS Smudgeproof Eye Base – NARS foray into eyeshadow primer was a successful one. We love this product, and it’s hard to put into words just how different it is than other primers. It’s got a great texture — almost a fluffy, tacky gel that seamlessly melts on the lids. Eyeshadows of the powder and cream varieties adhere to this very well. Definitely a staple eye product for us. And while I don’t think you get as much product as say UDPP, my tube is still going strong 6 months in.

MAC Greasepaint Stick, Dirty – MAC Greasepaint Sticks were a favorite for me in 2009 so I was giddy when the Art Supplies collection launched. Dirty is such a multi-dimensional shade — a blackened taupe — that creates the best smokey eye. I smudge this along the upper and lower lash line, throw on mascara and I am good to go. The staying power on these is really impressive too — they don’t budge.

MAC Superslick Liquid Liner – MAC did good in the eye department in 2010! The Superslick Liquid Liner that launched with Fabulous Felines was a game changer. The flocked tip makes it easy breezy to apply and the colors were so fun. We hope these come back next year.

Chanel Taupe Gris Eyeshadow – Of all the eyeshadow singles that I tried, this was the moneymaker. Taupe Gris is one of those “do everything” shades that gives me a very polished look no matter what I do. It’s also an interesting shade, as are most taupes. It pulls rather purple on me, but depending on what I pair it with, it can look more grey or brown. Truly worth the Chanel pricetag.

Trish McEvoy Beauty Emergency Card for Eyes – Trish always sneaks onto our best of lists, because she makes amazing makeup. Her recent Beauty Emergency Card for Eyes is a Carla staple. It contains really rich, shimmering neutrals and even has your brow filler covered. Plus, these are so tiny. I’m pretty sure the new TSA body scans wouldn’t even notice this tucked in your pocket:)

Your turn to share. Any fave eye products to add to the conversation?

Give the Gift of Organization: Trish McEvoy Makeup Planner

I identify well with the  traits of a “Type A” personality. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I love to organize me some stuff. Including my makeup, naturally. It’s as though Trish McEvoy’s Makeup Planners were made for me and my peoples. If you happen to know any Type A women, a makeup planner would be a perfect gift idea!

Pepare for a Beauty Emergency with Trish McEvoy's "The Voyager"

Trish McEvoy’s The Voyager Complete Beauty Emergency Set has everything you need for a beauty 9-1-1. It’s like keeping a spare tire and some jumper cables in your trunk, but better. Because this set, you’ll use all the time — emergency or not. Carla and I are still 100 percent loving Trish’s Voyager set from last year, and this one is packed with even more. And the gold packaging? It’s a done deal.

This year’s The Voyager Beauty Emergency Card IX contains four universally flattering shadows to brighten, contour and highlight and contains the “perfect all-the time blush.”  The colors included are Shell, Blossom and Cashmere, Shimmer Eye Shadow Cream, and Easy Going Blush. There are also four brushes: Brush 48 Blending, Brush 23 Angled Crease Contour, Brush 50 Angled Eye Lining and Covered Lip. And as a bonus, Trish added in a Beauty Booster Lip Gloss in Sexy Petal.

Let me tell you – the brushes may be small but quality was not sacrificed. In fact, everything in this set is quality. This retails for $75, and is currently available on but it should be making its way to counters everywhere soon.

New! Trish McEvoy Capri Collection

Trish McEvoy’s latest Capri Collection quietly made its way to counters and it has a few new items that are perfect for summer. Here’s the details:

24-Hour Eye Shadow and Liner ($32) – These remind me of MAC Grease Paint sticks! It’s an all-purpose shadow, liner or definer.

  • Aquamarine
  • Crystal Gray
  • Topaz

Highlights All Over Face Color ($35; compact sold separately) – Another multi-tasking, cream product that is perfect for summer. London is a beautiful pinky highlighting shade and Capri a warm bronze.

  • London (repromote)
  • Capri

Classic Lip Color ($23) – We don’t talk much about Trish lipsticks, but the formula is superb!

  • Natural
  • Vibrant

Beauty Booster™ SPF 15 Lip Gloss ($25)

  • Pretty Pink

You can check out the Capri collection online or at counters where you’ll also see another summery Trish display, the earlier released Bronze Collection.  Anything catching your eye from Capri? I am very curious about the shadow liners (Topaz!) and maybe the Natural lipstick. I’m a sucker for a nude lip!
