Get the Ultimate Defined Eye with Clarisonic Opal & Tarte

I’ve come to expect Clarisonic pairings, they are a great way to get a Clarisonic and try new brands at the same time. Clarisonic has teamed up with my beloved Kate Somerville, Philosophy and Murad in the past. Now we have our first Clarisonic Opal pairing and I really love this idea; you have a tool to treat the eye area and you have products to define your eyes… it’s genius!

The Clarisonic Infusion System with Tarte is limited-edition and contains:

  • Clarisonic Opal Sonic Infuser
  • Anti-Aging Sea Serum
  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara (0.24 oz.)
  • Tarte EmphasEYES Aqua-Gel Eyeliner (0.003 oz)
  • Tarte Lifted Natural Eye Primer with Firmitol (0.08 oz.)
  • Two Replacement Opal Applicator Tips
  • Universal Voltage Charger for Opal
  • Wristlet Carrying Case

This set has a retail value of $232 but retails for $185 exclusively at Sephora online. You know we love the Opal, right?

New! Tarte True Blood Collection

I have been DYING to write about this collection for over a month now. When Laurie and I were in New York last month and met the fabulous gals at Tarte, we got to play with this collection.  I am a HUGE True Blood fan so I was loving this collection from the moment I laid eyes on it. Maureen and the gals at Tarte created this collection to reflect the vibe of the show while maintaining their identity with their formulas and packaging. They also worked with Emmy award-winning makeup artist and True Blood makeup department head Brigette Myre-Ellis to create the beauty looks for the collection. Whether you’re a fang banger or just a waitress, the collection has something for you. Personally, I think I fall in to the fang banger camp. How about you?

The collection includes a a new cheek stain and LipSurgence lip tint both in Shimmering Red. The collection also includes a blockbuster palette with 17 matte and shimmer eyeshadows, an emphasEYES Aqua-Gel Eyeliner in black, a deluxe Lights, Camera, Lashes! mascara and a deluxe Lifted Natural Eye Primer.

Keep reading for a closer look at the key pieces in this collection.

Currently Loving: Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder in Bronze

Tarte did something very innovative this summer. They released a bronze setting powder! I’ve been using this every day for a month and each day I am amazed at how much better it makes my skin look. This product is similar to Tarte’s original Micronized Clay Finishing Powder in that it mattifies skin and minimizes pores, but this also adds a natural touch of bronze to your complexion. It’s so seamless – there is no dramatic bronzed effect, just a boost of warmth.

It contains Tarte’s VIP ingredient, Amazonian Clay, which balances skin by addressing dryness and flaking, improving skin texture and removing surface oil. Basically, this is product is perfect for summer. And now that I’ve gotten acquainted, I can’t imagine my beauty routine without this!

Look, no mess!

Worth noting, the mess-free container! Tarte placed one opening and all you have to do is squeeze on each side of it and the perfect amount of product comes through. I use my Eco Tools Bamboo Finishing Kabuki to dust the powder over my skin as a last step to my morning makeup routine, but if you snag this product through QVC, Tarte offers a fantastic brush!

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blushes Go The Distance

The very first Tarte product that I ever tried was the cheek stain. I alternated regularly between Dollface and Tipsy, and used them down to the very last slick. Before I got married in 2007, I treated myself to Blushing Bride cheek stain and rocked that practically my entire engagement. What do all of these shades have in common (besides the fact that I love them)? They are all available in powder form now via Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush.

New to the Q: Tarte PureOptic Long-Wear Lipstick

Laurie and Tarte Cosmetics Founder and CEO Maureen Kelly

We had the pleasure of visiting Tarte’s offices in New York recently to meet with Maureen Kelly and her team. If you’re a frequent QVC-er (as we are), you probably feel like you already know Maureen. We certainly felt that way, so it was very exciting to meet with her face-to-face and talk Tarte beauty. She’s a breath of fresh air in person, and her passion for natural beauty is very apparent. She even volunteered to take off her heels for this photo because I was joking that I felt so short standing next to her!

Seeking Bold Color? Pink Cheeks Offer a Perky Pick-Me Up for Spring

This spring is all about color. And why should it be any other way? After this long (and still present) winter, I am ready to embrace brightness. My bold color d’jour is pink. And not just any pink, but the hottest damn pink you can find. For my cheeks, especially.  Sporting a bright pink pop of pink on the cheeks makes me feel so alive, and definitely puts off a healthy vibe. And if you shy away from bold color on your lips, this is a wearable alternative to incorporate the bold spring trend to your everyday.

Here are my pink cheek picks!

YSL Creme de Blush in Fuchsia Temptation is probably the brightest pink blush I’ve ever used. I’m in love with the color, and I even like how the fuschia is mirrored on the inner rim of the packaging. Small details really get me, OK?  Also, this formula is like a comfy velvet couch for the cheeks. It blends down to a powder finish, and I love how I can just lightly dab my fingers in the product and press on the apples of my cheeks. I’d say impossible to overdo, but with a pink this bright, that might not be entirely true.

Applying Givenchy’s Blush Gelée in Candied Pink is like melting a popsicle on your cheeks. You have the jelly finish, which is unbelivably cool, that becomes one with your skin. This is definitely a stain, so it’s very long wearing. I think it works best on a more natural face. This isn’t one to layer over powders or even foundations. It is however, fab over a tinted moisturizer.  I see this being a favorite of mine this summer!

Tarte brought its “skinvigorating” complex to a powder blush, in shades we all know and love from its famed Cheek Stain line-up. These Amazonian Clay 12-hour blushes are full of color and pigment, and look so beautiful on the skin. They seem to have built-in dimension — i.e. a nice sheen that brings your face to life. I love Amused, a bright pink (almost as bright as YSL’s!), but the Cheek Stain lover in me also has a special affection for Dollface (one of my “firsts”).

Urban Decay’s Afterglow Glide-on Cheek Tint in Crush satisfies my cream blush tooth. This is a more traditional cream blush, and it glides on the skin like silk. It’s very buildable and works well over existing face makeup. This shade makes me feel like I’m sporting that after work-out glow, which, ironically, I never get after working out.

Now that you’ve heard me profess my passion for pink, are you on board? Let us know if you have any pink recommendations? There can never be too many in my makeup bag!

Beauty Bests and Spring Trends from Aveeno Ambassadors

You know what happens when you gather 25 beauty and lifestyle bloggers together for a weekend right? It’s a beauty product extravaganza, and a great learning experience. I for one, love to know what products others are obsessing over and even grilled the Aveeno brand and PR teams on their beauty must-haves.  Thought I’d share a few tidbits with you! There were some clear trends: Lots of lashes and bold lips.

When I arrived at the hotel (Shutters in Santa Monica — gorgeous!) and did a quick change in the lobby bathroom post-flight, pre-spa, I met Jodi from Multitasking Mommy. While I was using Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess bronzer to perk up my face, she was using items in her travel-friendly Trish McEvoy planner. It was at that moment I did a d’oh and put my palm on my forehead — I always forget to travel with my planner!

Nude nails are great for spring. We each got a mani/pedi during an afternoon of spa-ing, and many of us opted for the classic nude shade OPI’s Tickle My France-y. It’s a very chameleon shade depending on the light, and now I’m obsessed with it. I need my own bottle!

Lashes and bold lips, worn beautifully by Elizabeth from Beauty Bets and Romy from Romy Raves. They both have lash extensions, and now I’m fixated on getting them myself. Elizabeth did reveal that pre-extensions she was all about Buxom Lash Mascara. To add to the fabulosity, Romy even had hair feather extensions. You can see them in the photo, they are very cool.

All weekend long, Felicia of ThisThatBeauty sported the most amazing red lip, courtesy of Stila’s Long Wear Liquid Lip Color in Fiery. Check out her recap and see for yourself! Amber of Beauty Junkies Unite also wore an impressive pink lip on several occasions. Among the choices in her bag included a bright color from CoverGirl’s Lip Perfection Lipstick line. Amber was raving about the formula, along with the new CoverGirl Natureluxe Balms.

I also took the opportunity to chat with the Aveeno folks and find out what they most loved from the brand. I lost count with how many folks told me they loved the Skin Brightening Daily Scrub.  I shall add that to my Target shopping list! I also love talking with men about the products they use. The brand manager from Aveeno Baby and Sun Care revealed that he uses Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream as aftershave.

So the moral of this post is play up the lashes, don a bold lip and keep your nails neutral this spring. I’m on board!

Disclosure: Aveeno and RecycleBank sponsored my trip and spa services mentioned in this post.

New on the Q: Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil

I am so loving that oil is having an “it” moment, because I cannot get enough. My outlook on oils has changed dramatically in the course of just a year, and my skin is thankful. Tarte’s joining in the exotically-sourced miracle oil with its Pure Maracuja Oil launching today on QVC.

Tarte’s Pure Maracuja Oil is harvested in the Amazon and is referred to as “pure miracle,” due to the miraculous effects on the skin. The “3Rs” for your skin:  replenishing, rehydrating and reparative on all skin types. Maracuja vines wrap around trees along the Amazon river and once the fruit falls, Amazonian women taking part in Tarte’s sustainable-harvesting cooperative cut the fruit and hand press it during a unique cold-pressed ritual.

Like Tarte’s Amazonian Clay, the Pure Maracuja Oil appears to be equally “smart,” identifying your skin concerns and delivering targeted nutrients. You can check out Tarte Creator Maureen Kelly’s presentation on this product tonight, on the Q, at 7pm EST. Please tune in and let me know how it goes — I’ll be on a plane coming back from my wonderful, sunny Florida vacation and will have to catch the online version!

Beauty VIP of the Week: Eye Brightening Pencils

You guys, I’m living for the eye brightening pencil this week. I’ve happily added another step into my morning beauty routine and find it is well worth the 10 seconds (each eye) that it takes. I’m in a rut, which I blame on winter. I look tired, even though I’m well-concealed and brightened, and eyeliner on my lower lash line seems to be weighing me down. A few swipes of an eye brightening pencil along the waterline is saving me.

I’ve been using three:  Tarte EmphasEYEs Inner Brightener, Too Faced Mineral Water Eye Brightener and MAC Chromagraphic Pencil NC15/NW20, but have really grown to rely on one.

L-R: Tarte, Too Faced, MAC

Too Faced’s version has a nice pink tone that is flattering and it also has a cooling effect which I like. MAC’s Chromographic is the thickest of the three and a good multi-tasker — to cover a blemish or redness. But, Tarte’s EmphasEYES takes the cake. The color is perfect on my waterline and the best part? It lasts ALL day. As I type this, I’m nine hours into wearing makeup and it is still on my waterline. It’s definitely my savior this week, and I’m convinced I need this always.

Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum

You may recall Tarte’s Radiant & Rested kit that launched last summer at Sephora. It contained two yet-to-be released products, one being Tarte’s Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum which is now available on its own as part of Tarte’s Spring launch. My feelings towards this product are quite straightforward: I love it.

I would pit this product in a new category that seems to be all the rage: skincare makeup. Here’s the ingredient rundown: Amazonian clay (ya know, I’m really growing fond of this stuff!) helps improve skin texture and remove surface oil on the skin; Chamomile extract acts as an anti-inflammatory agent that treats and heals dry or damaged skin; Vitamin C brightens skin and helps prevent premature signs of aging; Vitamins A and E act as anti-inflammatory emollients and protect against free radical damage; and Sodium Hyaluronate retains moisture to plump fine lines and wrinkles.

It doesn’t lend coverage, but it is a great base and would suffice well for no-makeup days assuming you don’t need or want heavy coverage. Usually, I mix it with face primer and use a foundation brush to spread over my skin and then follow up with a light application of foundation or powder. I love that it has good-for-you ingredients and it genuinely looks great on. I blended some out in the photo above to show you what it looks like. While it looks like a beige color, it doesn’t have color on. May pose some difficulty for dark skin tones, but I’d say it’s pretty universal.

This is available at Sephora for $32, but the Radiant & Rested Kit is still available as well for just $10 more. I’d recommend picking the set up — I’ve loved every piece!
