On Stark Skincare Cypress Purity + Defense Oil, the Bachelorette and MAN

Okkkaayyy….who is watching the Bachelorette? I’m not ashamed to admit that I have watched every single season of this franchise. We’re talking a decade of rose ceremonies, here. Wild, right? I am totally into Emily’s season. The change of scenery in Charlotte is nice and her “real” dates (i.e. carry my groceries in the house) are totally my speed. That’s so my married life (minus the kid, but add a dog).

I am also enjoying the downfall of Ryan (really, you’re pitching your own Bachelor season in your interviews on week 4?!) and the drama between him and Chris (from Chicago). You’ll recall Chris, who on his one-on-one date proclaimed to a concerned Emily about his age (a young’n at 25), “I’m a Man.” I totally believed it, and felt the manliness in those three words come through my television. I also noticed he has nice skin. And in that moment, I thought of my most manly yet feminine beauty product that all women should use and share with their MAN who will totally want to use it because he is a MAN.

The MANly oil I speak of? Stark Skincare Cypress Purity + Defense Oil. Honestly, it’s the sexiest facial oil I’ve ever used. It reminds me of a hot dude. It’s akin to wearing your guy’s Old Spice deodorant, but the benefits to your skin are at a much higher level.

Ingredients: Rice Bran Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Camellia Seed Oil, Argan Nut Oil, Vitamin E, Cypress Oil, Bergamot Oil, and pure essential oils.

It’s really simple – five powerful, antioxidant-rich plant oils blended with pure essential oils to decongest skin and regulate oil production. The plant resins give it that sexy deep woodsy scent. It doesn’t get more MAN than that, right? I like the scent because it feels comforting and clean. My man likes it because it doesn’t smell girly and can be used for a comforting post-shave boost of moisture. It absorbs into the skin quickly and I swear it makes breakouts happen less (this is confirmed by Stark Founder Jessica Lafleur — the cypress oil purifies pores and regulate facial oil production!)

We don’t plan to dish out Father’s Day recommendations, but we endorse Stark’s Cypress Purity + Defense Oil as THE gift to give to your father/husband/doggy-papa/boyfriend, etc. this year. And, bonus, it’s kind of a gift for you, too!

Available at Stark Skincare for $45.

Now….back to the Bachelorette. Let’s chat in the comments. To quote one of my favorite lines this season from a man who is not at all like the Stark Cypress Oil  MAN I envision (Kalon), “I love it when you talk, but I really wish you’d let me finish.” And you?

GoodeBox, Not Just Goode…but Great

Forget the goody bag, we’re all about the GoodeBox, a new sampling service with a sustainable focus. Each month, subscribers are treated to eco-friendly beauty and personal care products and the occasional natural and organic health product. Everything is good for you and the planet. The service launched in March, and judging by the box I received, it’s not just another box. The contents were curated by “green” celebrity makeup artist Kristen Arnett.

I was so thrilled to see Stark Skincare products in the GoodeBox. You may recall my obsession with this newly-launched line of skincare (here, here and here!) Other highlights include samples of Alima Pure Luminous Shimmer Blush and Powder, Clairvoyant Beauty skincare and a travel pack of Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes.

Subscriptions are $16/month. We have a feeling there is a lot more GOODEness to come based on the amazing list of eco brands listed on their website. To name a few, Tata Harper, Revolution Organics and Weleda.

Product Girl Green Guide: Eco-Friendly Skin Care

With Earth Day right around the corner, Sunday, April 22, now seems like the natural time to share our top picks in eco beauty. All week long, we’ll be sharing our green recommendations in makeup, shower staples, skin care and more. Today, we’re sharing the eco-friendly skin care products we can’t be without. Read on for lots of plant extracts, oils and the most brilliant multitasking balms and creams.

1. Acure Facial Cleansing Crème, Olive + Mint. This creamy cleanser helps encourage new cell growth and actually helps you look younger. Literally, with each use, you are washing away worry lines! Organic acai berry, fair trade organic olive oil and Organic Chorella Growth Factor (to boost collagen…a.k.a. younger-looking skin!) are the star players. The cleanser is a fresh minty green color, and the smell is naturally sweet. ($14.99, Acure Organics)

2. SIA Botanics Blueberry Oxygenating Exfoliator. This brand recently popped up on our radar. All of SIA’s products are grounded in botanical bases and do wonders for damaged skin, blemish-prone, dull, dry, YOU NAME IT! The oxygenating action comes from jojoba beads which exfoliate the skin so gently you hardly know it’s happening. Blueberries and cranberries offer a surge of antioxidant power and olive and hibiscus are on standby to decongest pores. ($20, SiaBotanics)

3. La Fresh Waterproof Makeup Remover Wipes. La Fresh has a wipe for everything (and everyone!) — nail polish remover, insect repellant, body refresher, deodorant, puppy dogs, etc. We love the Makeup Remover Wipes and how they easily break down stubborn eye and lip makeup. They contain zero alcohol and no artificial fragrance or parabens. Look for a six oil blend of olive, jojoba, sesame, grapeseed, vitamin E and lavender. The lavender scent is very soothing at the end of a long day. True story.  ($9.99 for 24, La Fresh)

4. Weleda Skin Food. One of the best skin care products, ever. It can be used on dry hands, elbows and even your face. I even use it as a highlighter on my face as it gives a believable, natural dewy look to the skin. Organic pansy extract, known to be a mild antiseptic, calms irritation and essential fatty acids, vitamin E and organic sunflower seed oil heal the skin as well. It’s like a garden. It’s also super affordable and lasts a very long time. ($11.50, Weleda)

5. TAY All-Purpose Shea Butter. We live for a good shea cream. And Tay’s is about as pure as it gets. Organically harvested shea butter, from the Women’s Coop in West Africa, is infused with USDA Organic rosemary essential oil to create a truly aromatherapeutic cream. The scent is earthy and the benefits plentiful: hydrates skin and scalp, doubles as a hair styling aid and works wonders on ragged cuticles. The engraved wood packaging is also so unique. We love this! ($28, TAY Everyday)

6. One Love Organics Skin Savior Balm. Balms are a gift to the skin, and to those who never have enough time in the day. Pure, cold-pressed plant oils do the job of cleansing your skin and moisturizing it. The old oil breaks down oil story – it’s legit and this stuff works! Skin Savior is a precious organic blend of coconut oil, sweet soy seed oil, beeswax, mango seed butter, chia seed extract and more. We love to use this on our face, but also massage this in to the skin – anywhere head-to-toe – for an extra dose of pampering. ($68, One Love Organics)

7. Stark Skincare Green Tea Detox Clay Mask. By now, we’re all familiar with the “just add water” exfoliator, right? A brilliant idea that Stark takes one step further with a “just add water” mask. It’s a gentle, but powerful, blend of clay, green tea and fruit extracts that leaves skin brighter and cleaner after just one use. Green tea helps repair damage done by the sun and pollution and the mineral-rich clays remove impurities from the pores and improve skin’s clarity. The apple extract contains alpha hydroxy acid to gently exfoliate and improve skin elasticity. All of this in a POWDER! ($30, Stark Skincare)

What's in Her Makeup Bag with Stark Skincare Founder Jessica Lafleur

We haven’t had the pleasure of meeting cool Canadian chick and Stark Skincare Founder Jessica Lafleur in person, but we already know we want to be besties with her.  We love her line of natural, organic skincare and the message it conveys: simplicity and purity. We also love her Pinterest boards, especially “My Man is Also My Living Doll, So?” Speaking of her man, she sent me her photo for this very post right here and the file name was called “MyLove.” It was from her husband’s computer. ADORABLE, right?  We don’t know much about Mr. Stark Skincare, but we like him, too.

Jessica graciously let us peek into her makeup bag. She’s the ultimate expert in organic ingredients and natural skincare, so we were thrilled to see what products she uses on a daily basis. Read on to the end, because Jessica also is asking everyone reading for some very important makeup advice!

Beauty VIP of the Week: Stark Skincare Grapefruit Cleanse + Hydrate Balm

This balm is daBALM.com. Balmalicious. Bad puns aside, Stark Skincare Grapefruit Cleanse & Hydrate Balm, GF for short, is kinda the bomb. I’m officially inaugurating GF into Beauty VIP territory. It’s a water-less balm (not unlike other VIP One Love Organics Skin Savior Balm) that does it all and does it flawlessly. Cleansing and hydrating your face, and even offering its services to dry elbows, lips, flyaway hairs and even post-shave.

Stark GF ingredients:  Shea Fruit Butter, Virgin Coconut Oil, Cocoa Seed Butter, Soybean Butter, Candelilla Wax, Camellia Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Arrowroot Powder, Orange Peel Wax, Vitamin E, pure essential oils.

One thing you should know about Stark Skincare is its belief in simplicity. The ingredients are few and powerful, and products in the line serve many purposes. This balm is a perfect example. The smell is HEAVENLY. The grapefruit is prominent and it also slightly smells of vanilla, to my nose. It brings me to good places when I just SMELL the product. Which I’m doing right this second as I type this. Truthfully, I can’t decide if I want to eat this or put it on my face.

Grapefruit is having a serious moment right now. It’s the citrus “it girl” right now. And grapefruit extract is a natural astringent, making it good for problematic skin and gentle enough for the sensitive types. Did I mention the smell? I did? Well…again, it is like therapy in a tub. Mine above is a cute little sample size, but I will be upgrading to the full 2 oz. version that comes in a beautiful glass jar that I plan to use and reuse because it’s just that cute.

While the conversation naturally gravitates to the most popular “it girl,” let’s not forget about the addition of shea butter (unprocessed in its most perfect state) and raw organic cocoa butter that together get all superpower-like on your skin. In comes virgin organic coconut oil to reduce puffiness and help rid skin of bacteria. The list goes on to include soybean butter (non GMO) to stimulate collagen production and a series of oils, namely organic camellia and sweet almond, to heal and help halt that inevitable process called aging.

No water. No fake anything. All awesome and good for you. The price is right too at $40.

I love massaging this in to my face to remove makeup (remove with a microfiber cloth – I use my OLO Skin Shammy!) and find it gets rid of everything and makes my skin smooth. The fun part is then using it as a moisturizer. I love a good two-fer and you won’t find many products that you can use to CLEANSE and HYDRATE skin. All-around, VIP!
