What's New in Beauty: August 8, 2010

YSL has a new foundation, Teint Radiance, that promises flawless skin by diffusing light and imparting a radiant glow on skin. Sounds promising!

SephoraMobile launched this week and good news for us – this is just the first step in their m-commerce strategy. Next up? A Beauty-to-Go app for iPhone and iPad launching later this year. (via Internet Retailer)

Chanel introduced new eyeshadow duos and KarlaSugar’s already got them swatched!  Misty-Soft, come to mama….

New! Tokidoki at Sephora

Have you seen the new Tokidoki collection at Sephora yet? I spent some time playing around with it this weekend and I loved what I saw, there are some seriously fun pieces in this collection and you have to check it out.

I was instantly drawn to the Perfetto Eyeliner pens and the Fantastico Lip Ink markers, indulging my secret pen/marker fetish. Really, how could I pass up the chance to play with a new lip stain? :)

The whole line seems reasonably priced and with fun packaging to boot. Naturally, I picked up a few of the lip ink markers but the Perfetto Eyeliner pens have been on my mind since I swatched them on my hand. You can see swatches below of all the shades in the line.

Top row: Rondine Love, Sabochan, Ciao Ciao, Arlecchino, Mostro, Sandy, Carina and Donutella
Bottom Row: Cactus Friends, Nana Star, Carnivora, Peperincino and Rainbow Cloud

I polled the gals on Twitter about the Perfetto Eyeliner pens and the reviews are mixed but I am still very intrigued… the Arlecchino, Sandy and Carina shades are calling my name. I look at these and imagine my eyes with gorgeous navy, dark green and plum cat eye lines. The liner swatches on my hand stayed on forever so I’m dying to try these out but I’m waiting for the Sephora 15% off promo code available on the 8th. You’re jumping on that, right?

As for the Lip Ink markers, they are your standard felt tip pen lip stains  but I  still couldn’t stop myself from getting something from this collection. So I reached for Cactus Friends and Rainbow Cloud, taking care of my coral and nude lip color fixes. I’m not a fan of the pointed tip on these stains (or any pen style lip stain) because it creates too sharp of a line if not blended quickly but otherwise, it does the job.

Have you tried anything from of the Tokidoki collection at Sephora? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.

Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Face and Palettes

Our favorite beauty products of the year continues with our must-haves for our faces and top-picks for palettes! We saw a lot of new foundations released this past year, with the trend no longer being just coverage but good-for-you ingredients. See what stood our for us below!

Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer was a favorite of Carla’s this year. If this multi-tasking concealer is good enough to cover up Miss Von D’s tattoos, imagine what it can hide on your complexion?

We were wowed by Benefit Hello Flawless and Benefit Erase Paste. Together, the two create a flawless (uh, pun intended!) canvas. Plus, Benefit’s packaging and marketing is top-notch, don’t you think? We always look forward to seeing what they’re bringing next.

We fell hard for Dior Nude Skin Foundation and NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, both giving excellent, buildable coverage without looking like we’re wearing foundation or irritating our sensitive skin.

The standout of MAC’s Colour Ready collection, Prep & Prime Transparent Finishing Powder Powder, is our pick for best powder of 2009. This stuff is the perfect finisher to foundation and helps set our faces without mattifying us completely. And it’s part of the permanent line, thank you MAC… a few swipes of this with a brush and our pores are instantly minimized.

TheBalm Sexy Mama helped keep Carla’s skin shine free the year before so she re-upped and kept with it in 2009.  The adorable pinup girl may reel you in but this translucent powder is bringing sexy matte without caking.

We have a major thing for highlighters here at Product Girl HQ. Major. We could probably change the name of this blog to Highlighter Girl and get along just fine. But even we have our favorites. Bobbi Brown’s Nude Shimmer Brick may just be the best Shimmer Brick of all time. This gives that “lit from within” glow and is so easy to wear. It’s love. One of our most recent favorites, Le Tissage de Lames Chanel imparts a brightening gold sheen and is our pick for most luxurious.

Benefit’s One Hot Minute has been a revelation to us this year. Take your pick, use it as a bronzer or use it as a highligher, the gorgeous rose gold shimmer can work as either on a variety of skin tones. And how cute is the tin? Loving it…

MAC’s Rose Romance collection made a dent in our wallets and included an amazing cheek stain – Just a Pinch Gel Blush. It’s a sheer rosy red that gives a natural flush to cheeks. We would so looove to see more of these released! What do you say, MAC? Will we see more?

Another MAC blush that captured hearts in ’09 was The Perfect Cheek, released with MAC’s Fall launch, Make Up Art Cosmetics. It’s a tricky line a fair-skinned girl walks when wearing nude blushes (mud alert), but this has the right amount of pink in it to make it well, perfect. (Full of puns today, loud and proud!)

Ok, this is the last time we’ll mention the Trish McEvoy Voyager Beauty Emergency Card or Trish McEvoy… this year. :) We can’t help it, we really, really love it. Pictures really don’t do this little set justice, if your local counter still has it, you need to snap this up… for cuteness sake.

We made some big claims about Dior’s Smoky Crystal quint earlier this month, and we stand by them! These shadows are incredibly smooth and every color in this palette is stunning.

Bobbi Brown has had some great releases this year but one of our favorites is the Bobbi Brown Brights Eye Palette. We love seeing Bobbi show us bolder color and this palette definitely had plenty of that.

Now it’s your turn. What lit up your face in 2009? Any palettes that you can’t get enough of?  Share in the comments!

If you shop at Sephora in-store, you’ve probably noticed these items at the register periodically. They’re usually only there for a quick period of time but they’re amazing – and now they are all online! I’m all over the Stila Couple a Crushes – deluxe sizes of the Pomengranate and Mango lip/cheek stains!

And Nordstrom slashed prices by 20-50% on a ton of beauty products, including the MAC holiday palettes and sets, Bobbi Brown holiday gifts, fragrance value sets and more! Here’s a few deals that I deem steal-worthy!

Miracle Worker? Sephora Platinum Professional Air Brush #55

According to Sephora, the Platinum Air Brush #55 is “the secret to the smoothest foundation finish possible.”  I couldn’t agree more! This brush has transformed how I apply my liquid foundation.

Sephora-Professional-Platinum-Air-Brush-55

I applied Sephora’s recent Beauty Insider gift card promotion towards this brush on a whim and I’m so happy I did. It’s made of synthetic Taklon hairs and is intended for use with liquid foundations to give an airbrushed look to the face. I’m convinced this brush performs magic. I use less foundation but get better coverage that truly does appear airbrushed. It’s unbelievably soft and luxe on the face. I may never pick up another flat foundation brush or sponge again!

Beauty Stocking Stuffers

If I were to only receive one gift each year at the holidays, it would be a stocking. That’s sort of a trick answer since stockings are filled with tons of goodies…but no need to get technical here! My mom used to (and still does) give the best stockings. Everything from socks to nail polish to candy and jewelry. I just love getting ‘em and filling ‘em for others.

Here are some beauty stuffers I’ll be putting in stockings this year (or asking for in mine!)

Korres-Lip-Butter

Korres lip butters get a lot of buzz in the beauty circles and for good reason. They smell great (Jasmine is my fav!), impart a little color and are so luxe and soft on the lips.

True-Blue-Just-A-Minute

Available at Bath & Body Works, this orange scented, sugar-based exfolilating scrub works wonders on your hands in under a minute. I think I first tried this item after I got it as a stocking stuffer – and I’ve been hooked since.

OPI-Ornament-For-You-Holiday-2009

OPI has a ton of great holiday gift sets featuring their beautiful “Holiday Wishes” color collection. There are three different variations of this set, Orna-ment for you, and it’s completely adorable. (Hint, hint…anyone reading this that stuffs my stocking?!) I’ve seen these at Ulta, but I think they’re disappearing fast and furiously.

MAC-Hocus-Focus-Colorful-Face-Kit

The face kits that MAC released with their holiday collection this year are so cool. They feature a blush, a highlight and a beauty powder.  I actually put this on my Christmas list to my husband’s parents!

Sephora-Film-Noir-Makeup-Case

Makeup bags! Specifically the Film Noir Ivory Diamond bags from Sephora. One of my favorite makeup bags ever is the Sephora clutch and this pattern and style is so glam. It comes in red and black too!

What’s your stocking stance? Any stuffers on your wish list/give list that you want to share? The more ideas the merrier!

Concealing Multitasker: Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer

When it comes to concealer, my immediate concern is not my under-eye area. I’m actually more worried about concealing some of the hormonal issues I’ve been dealing with along my jawline. I’ve tried A LOT of different products in my quest to conceal this problem area of mine. I thought I had found something that worked for me but when I tried Sephora’s Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer, I changed my mind.

kat-von-d-tattoo-concealer Thankfully, I’m pretty happy with the rest of my skin. Besides the occasional blemish in other areas, I do not have any other major issues that powder or a dab of liquid foundation won’t take care but when it comes to this other area, I need to bring in the big guns. With Sephora’s Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer, I get full coverage from a concealer with a fantastic liquid formula.

What’s great is about this concealer is its wear. When I was in NY 2 weeks ago meeting up with my fellow Beauty Bloggerati, I was nervous about what the heat and humidity would do to my makeup. Even though I was overheating, my problem area was still concealed and the coverage lasted the ENTIRE day. Sure, it wasn’t quite fully in tact and it required a few touch ups but what makeup wouldn’t in muggy weather? For the most part, it held up beautifully. With other products, the area is dried out but this concealer doesn’t do that at all with my skin.

The other good thing about Sephora’s Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer is that it’s completely buildable without feeling heavy or looking cakey. To give you an idea of the kind of coverage this product can provide, check out what Kat Von D looks like with her famous tattoos covered up. She’s gorgeous with and without tattoos, right?

The only downside here is that this product is only available in 3 shades. While I can find something to match my skin tone (I actually picked up the medium shade to mix it in with the light shade), darker skin tones are out of luck. It’s a shame really, a product this good needs to be more diverse.

Have you tried Sephora’s Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

New! Sephora Pure Wanderlust Edition Palette

Sephora will be introducing a new PURE line, a plush collection of “green” makeup and skincare essentials.  The first product to debut from this collection is the new Sephora Wanderlust Edition palette.

sephora-pure-natural-7-color-palette

As the first “pure-fect” piece to debut from the collection, this palette features 3 trendy eyeshadow shades, 3 basic brown shades and 1 blush all in a compact made of sustainable bamboo and recyclable metal for just $36. This Sephora Wanderlust Edition palette and the other products in the PURE line contain at least 95% natural ingredients and at least 10% organic ingredients. The rest of Sephora’s PURE collection will debut in the fall.

It’s great to see a beauty giant like Sephora step up to teh plate and release a collection that is green. Don’t you think?

Sephora's Big Beauty Sale

Have you checked out Sephora’s huge sale going on right now? You can find good deals online and in stores.

Sephora's Big Beauty Sale

Check out what’s on sale, there are some good things on sale including products from Vincent Longo, Bliss, NARS, Cargo, Lorac and many more. If there’s a product you’ve been eying, you may want to check it’s price. I was admiring Dior’s Night Diamond for about a month now but didn’t want to shell out the $80 to get it. When I saw it for $59, I told myself I needed it. :)

Sephora Girls

The other day I get an email from my little sister asking me for some eyeliner. Normally, this wouldn’t be an odd request but the thing is, this girl is only 11 years old. I’m not quite ready to start sharing my stash with her but I don’t mind giving her some stuff that is a bit more age appropriate.

Sephora Girls Pearly Lipstick The Sephora Girls line is geared towards the “not quite ready for makeup” set, the girls just on the verge of raiding their big sister’s or mom’s makeup bag. I ordered this Pearly Lipstick for her in Strawberry, a light pearly pink. What’s great about this line is that the products are not overly pigmented, they are all designed to be sheer and they have a nice sweet scent to them. There’s just enough to give lips a bit of a glow. To top it off, isn’t the packaging cute? It’s almost like Hello Kitty and Sephora designed a product line together.

Isn’t it adorable? There’s also Glitter Lipgloss and Flavored Lip Balm. You can see the entire Sephora Girls line here. There are some great gifts for the younger gals on your list.
