Holiday Gift Guide: The Eco Girl

Our holiday gift guides continue with green beauty goodies perfect for The Eco Girl. These natural and organic options are all pampering and earth-friendly. The Eco Girl gift guide is a really special one for us. This year, we discovered so many amazing brands and products that have totally changed our skincare and beauty routines around in the best possible way.  And all of The Eco Girl picks come from brands that are made by passionate women who are truly inspiring.

Talk about passion and heart. The ladies at La Bella Figura have traveled the world to discover exotic ingredients and use them to make the most eco-luxe skincare evah. The La Bella Figura Holiday Healing and Glow Kit is such an amazing gift. You get a little bit of everything with it — facial steam teas, the Bio Active Healing Mask, Barbary Fig Renewal Serum (thank you LBF for intro-ing this phenom ingredient!), a sample set of their fragrance oils and that chic chevron bag to tote it all in.

Team Product Girl had the delight of meeting Maureen Kelly in New York last year and it felt like we were reuniting with a gal pal we’d known forever. One with insane business savvy.  How is that everything Tarte puts out is a must-have?  Like this Tarte Lash Curler & Mascara set in that adorable ikat print. It’s more than cute — the curler is high quality (I prefer it to most others…even the Shu)

Next to sunscreen, RMS Beauty Living Luminizer is one of those products we’d take to a desert island. This is the highlighter that Victoria’s Secret models use! The gorgeous woman behind this brand, Rose-Marie Swift, uses this often on Gisele and Miranda. It puts most other highlighters to shame. Try this yourself, then pay it forward to The Eco Girl on your list.

We are obsessing over the One Love Organics Comfort and Joy set (exclusive to Birchbox). Does it get better than a duo of body serums made with organic plant oils in Lavender and Neroli scents? We first fell in love with One Love after President Suzanne LeRoux kindly introduced us to the line last year. The Skin Savior Balm had us hooked from day one and now we can’t get enough of the line. This set is the perfect way to share the (one) love.

Going sulfate free was a game changer for my hair and one of my favorite new discoveries is Acure Organics Morocccan Argan Oil + Argan Stem Cell Shampoo and Conditioner, made for gifting with this Acure Organics Healthy Hair Gift Set. It is one of the best smells I’ve ever encountered and it totally revitalizes hair. The Eco Girl will appreciate this duo and the fact that brand, founded by Kristy Guerra as a way to honor her grandmother who battled breast cancer, donates proceeds of each product sold to breast cancer research. This line is literally for a cure.

Ilia Beauty founder Sasha Plavsic is on a mission to change your mind about organic makeup. A designer by trade, she founded the line after evaluating her makeup bag one day and decided organic beauty could use a rebrand of its own — better packaging, performance and contemporary colors. We say success has been achieved because Ilia Beauty Lipstick is phenomenal. The colors are wearable and fresh, the formula good for you (and performs better than most non-natural offerings) and the packaging streamlined. Introduce The Eco Girl to a tube of Ilia and a happy holiday it will be.

Product Girl Green Guide: 6 Eco Beauty Must-Haves

With Earth Day right around the corner, Sunday, April 22, now seems like the natural time to share our top picks in eco beauty. All week long, we’ll be sharing our green recommendations in makeup, shower staples, skin care and more. Today, we’re bringing you our thoughts on eco-friendly makeup. Read on to find out about the perfect cheek color, an organic highlighter and the juiciest tinted lip balm that’s good for you, too.

1. Tarte gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara. Lashes are gifted with this mascara — healthier with each use and the appearance of majorly lengthened fringe (by 121% according to Tarte). Amazonian clay works to hydrate and repair lashes, and reads and treats your lash concerns giving you what you need (hence the “smart”) It’s all legit. We are huge fans of this at Product Girl. ($19, Tarte Cosmetics)

2. Josie Maran Argan Color Stick. Have you ever seen Josie demo these on QVC? Josie and her crew of models always look so radiant and healthy. That’s exactly the effect of the color stick – it brightens the complexion and cheeks are hydrated and dewy. Free of fragrance and parabens and full of essential oils, vitamin E and of course, argan oil. Rosey is the perfect shade for all skin tones, but we recommend trying them all (check out this sampler!) ($22, Josie Maran Cosmetics)

3. RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up. A foundation, concealer, skin healer all in one. RMS redefines makeup with this product, helping treat and nourish the skin where you need it most. Coverage is beautiful, all signs of sallowness, redness, blemishes and uneven skin tone are instantly gone. Blend with your fingers and watch “Un” Cover Up become your skin, but better. ($36, Spirit Beauty Lounge)

4. Vapour Organic Beauty Trick Sticks. Made with 70% certified organic ingredients and 30% natural mineral pigments and vitamins, think of these are the green version of a NARS Multiple. We like that they are tiny and can be used directly on the brow bone, inner corner of the eyes and just about anywhere you want to highlight on the face. ($20, Vapour Organic Beauty)

5. Alima Pure Nourishing Lip Balm. There’s many a tinted balms with peppermint oil out there, but we have a special spot for Alima. When you put these on, a rush of moisture fills lips and makes them looks super juicy. Not a surprise, since Alima formulates these with soothing antioxidants, organic plant oils and butters. Rhubarb is the perfect pink! ($7, Alima Pure)

6. EcoTools Mini Kabuki brushes. EcoTools uses earth-friendly, cruelty-free materials to make its brushes. These mini kabukis, part of a 4-piece set, are both the cutest brushes we might own and probably among the most used. Quality is gained with EcoTools, not sacrificed. Don’t you love when you get both effective and adorable? ($14.99, Drugstore.com)

Beauty VIP of the Week: RMS Beauty "Un" Cover-Up

I apologize ladies, I’m a little late last week’s Beauty VIP of the Week but I love this little gem so much that I didn’t want to wait until next week.

One of the beauty lines I am obsessed with right now is RMS Beauty, an organic based makeup line from make up artist Rose-Marie Swift. She is known as supermodel Giselle’s makeup artist. It is not readily available, it is only in a few states but you can order direct or from e-retailers like Spirit Beauty Lounge and Futurenatural. Sign-up for their mailing lists, both retailers often email subscribers with discount codes. This line is one of the reasons I’m excited about The Makeup Show in New York in May because I intend on stocking up hardcore.

In particular, RMS Beauty’s “Un” Cover-Up has been rocking my world. I completely overlooked this product when I first heard of the brand but all it took was one rave from a friend formerly in beauty PR to know it was good and worth wanting immediately. This product can be used as a concealer or as a foundation and it comes in a .20oz pot for $36. It is a small pot for a product that can moonlight as foundation but Un Cover-Up performs tricks like a magician.

The product’s consistency is thick but it is very rich and concentrated. Once you warm it up, a slight dab in the pot is enough to cover a sizable area, I only need to dip into the pot about 3 times to get the coverage I need. Even though this product only comes in 3 shades, my #11 is great as a concealer and foundation on me because it blends seamlessly. I don’t use it on my entire face, just on the areas I feel need a little enhancement.

Wearing Un Cover-Up is like wearing an invisible mask, I often forget I have it on because it feels really light on the skin. It does a great job of hiding my dark circles and camouflaging my redness with medium coverage that melts into your skin. Sometimes, I can’t even tell where I applied it. It gives long lasting coverage as well. Once I apply it, I set it with some powder and I’m good to go. I do need a touch up if I’m going out after work but otherwise, this is all I need. It’s definitely the longest lasting natural concealer/foundation I’ve used.
