Revlon by Marchesa 3D Jewel Appliques

revlon-by-marchesa

I am not really a nail applique gal, I haven’t been able to master them no matter how hard I try. This is why nail appliques really haven’t done it for me for awhile now. That is until these new Revlon by Marchesa 3D Jewel Appliques stopped me dead in my tracks at my local Fred Meyer tonight. These limited edition appliques are inspired by Marchesa’s own gowns are available in 8 different designs retailing for $9.99 a set.

I borrowed this image from Revlon’s website but really, it doesn’t do these appliques justice at all. They are gorgeous and wearable works of art, I’m obsessed. My favorite design is 24K Brocade, it has a robins egg blue background with a raised gold brocade design.

Marchesa has collaborated with beauty brands in the past, a few years ago they had a gorgeous albeit pricey capsule collection with Le Métier de Beaute but none of it was as memorable to me as these appliques are. I appreciate Marchesa’s collaboration with Revlon, it brings their point of view down to a much more affordable price points and makes it more accessible than ever.

Revlon + Product Girl on Metallic Eyes for Holiday

Tis the season for really festive makeup. While we love metallic eyes and red lips all year round, the look definitely has more impact in December. It really is the best time of the year. This month, we teamed with Revlon to showcase our holiday best. The star of this metallic eyes show is Revlon Luxurious Color™ Diamond Lust™ Eye Shadow in Plum Galaxy. Its glam-inducing sidekick is Revlon Super Lustrous™ Lipstick in Red Lacquer. And I paired it with gold sequins. It might be fair to say this is my favorite Revlon video (and this is our 12th this year!)

I have become quite the fan of the Diamond Lust Eye Shadows. They’re sparkly, yes, but actually pretty pigmented. A wet brush could work well for application, but I’ve found my fingers press it on really well. And this comes from the girl that hardly ever uses her fingers to apply any eye makeup. I think perhaps I should use them more given my successful go with the Diamond Lust.

This Revlon look is actually our official last of 2012, so to celebrate, we’re giving away ten Diamond Lust Eye Shadows. Leave a comment by Wednesday, December 12, telling us what makeup look you will be wearing this holiday season. Tips and tricks always a welcome share. We’ll pick 10 random winners from there.

Good luck!

Making a Holiday Hair and Lip Statement with Revlon

My favorite holiday (Thanksgiving – stretchy pants day!) is in less than a week. I love everything about Turkey Day – especially the sides – but also that it is the official start of the holiday season. Which means holiday parties! And of course, deciding what to wear to those holiday parties. We teamed with Revlon this month to share some festive party hair and makeup inspiration. We promise – this look is quick and easy but will make it look like you spent a ton of time glamming it up.

Hair accessories very in the moment right now, so the look in the video centers around a statement hair jewel. I pulled my hair (which is now past the middle of my back) into a side bun and secured it with clear elastics before affixing a sparkly clip. My hair is far too long to use the clip to hold all of my hair so this alleviates the stress of a potential hair mishap mid-party. My makeup is simple with a bright red lip, which is always perfect but especially so during the holidays. I’m wearing Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Cherry Blossom, which is one of those classic colors that will work for everyone.

Revlon Nail Art and Braid How-To Video and Giveaway

We teamed up this month with our friends at Revlon to showcase a hair and nail trend this month. We present you our take on braids and nail art. I think I missed a very important life lesson as a child: properly braiding my hair. In the past year, I’ve conquered the fishtail and am trying very hard to do a French braid on myself. It’s a work in progress. But the one braid I can do practically sleeping is a traditional one. Especially when they are tiny, peek-a-boo style braids like I show you in the video above. I like to call this style something I do on day two/three hair to make the texture seem more styled.

For the nail art, this one is pretty simple thanks to Revlon Top Speed™ Nail Enamel and Revlon Nail Art Stencil.  I applied two coats of the Top Speed in Sterling, a shiny silver then placed the Nail Art Stencil sticker on my dry nail. From there, it just took one coat of Orient (a classic red) on the top. I love how easy it was, and would be interested in seeing more Revlon Nail Art Stencils in other varieties in the future. Perhaps chevron stripes?

Our friends at Revlon are once again gifting 10 Product Girl readers with a product featured in this video. This month, we’ve got a Revlon Top Speed Nail Enamel up for grabs! Leave a comment on this post by Saturday, October 27, telling us your thought on braids (tips and how-to advice welcome, please!) and we’ll pick 10 winners.*

*Winners to U.S. residents only.

Revlon + Product Girl on the Burgundy Lip for Fall (+ giveaway!)

Once fall hits, I crave a deep lip. I can’t think of a better pairing with the crisp colorful leaves and cooler air, can you? Lucky for me (and you!), a burgundy pout is once again a fall beauty trend. Honestly, of all of the Revlon videos we’ve brought to you this year, the one we’re featuring this month is our absolute favorite. Revlon equipped us with a few products to show you how to wear a burgundy lip. No surprise, this look is all about the lip. The products I used in the video: include:

  • Revlon Super Lustrous™ Lipstick in Black Cherry (love this classic shade!)
  • Revlon® ColorStay™ Smoky Shadow Stick in Flare (lilac/smoky plum)
  • Revlon® ColorStay Overtime™ Lengthening Mascara (black)

Black Cherry is delicious — it looks like a deep brown burgundy in the tube but goes on much lighter on the lips. It can be more subtle if a slightly stained look is more your style. Or, layer it on and be bold! Make sure to click on the video above and check out how I wear it, along with the lilac side of Revlon Smoky Shadow Stick.

Because we love this product so much, we’re giving away 10 tubes of Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry! Leave a comment on this post by Thursday, September 27 and let us know your thoughts on a burgundy lip for fall. We’ll pick 10 winners from there!

Revlon Previews Nearly Naked Makeup at NY Fashion Week

Revlon Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman, responsible for all things awesome over at Revlon the past few years, previewed 2013 launches on the runways at New York Fashion Week. The look seen here at Giuletta’s Spring/Summer 2013 Presentation was all about dewy skin.

“The designer was envisioning a mermaid with an eccentric twist,” says Westman.  “I wanted it to look as if the girls had just emerged from the sea. I focused on creating a dewy glow then added a striking brown eye and glossy bronzed lips to complete the look.”

The Revlon look included:

FACE:

Revlon Nearly Naked Makeup (available January 2013)
Revlon PhotoReady Sculpting Blush Palette in Natural

EYES:

Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow in Not Just Nudes
Revlon PhotoReady Primer and Shadow in Metropolitan and Graffiti, $9.99 (available January 2013)
Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Brown, $7.99
Revlon PhotoReady 3D Volume Mascara, $8.99

LIPS:

Revlon ColorBurst Lipgloss in Bronze Shimmer, $7.49

NAIL:

We’re anxiously awaiting more details on the “Nearly Naked Makeup” responsible for this dewy, natural look. Also, we love the natural nude lip from the duo of Colorburst Glosses. That we don’t have to wait until January to try! What do you think?

Revlon + Product Girl Take on the Ombre Nail Trend

Ombre nails are where it’s at right now. We love this trend, and are excited that it’s the focus of our newest video with Revlon. There are a few ways to approach the ombre nail. We’ve done the one color with white polish — and it can be messy for sure — or you can use five different shades in the same color family. Revlon sent us five shades of Revlon® Nail Enamel for the ombre look. Lightest to darkest from left to right we used:

  • Pink Chiffon
  • Posh Pink
  • Fuchsia Fever
  • Plum Seduction
  • Impulsive

What do you think?

We’re giving away a bottle of Revlon Nail Enamel to 10 Product Girl readers. To enter, leave a comment on this post! We’ll pick winners on Wednesday, August 22.

Revlon + Product Girl and the "New" Cat Eye (and another awesome giveaway!)

Another installment of Product Girl and Revlon taking on beauty trends is here! And I’m really excited about this one because we cover one of my go-to eye liner looks: the “new” cat eye. I call it the kitten. It’s just a slight wing that is so subtle, hence the kitten name. It’s so flattering and eye opening for my eye shape and one of those trends that I think is really wearable for most women. It’s not as dramatic as a full on cat eye, so work it for daytime or anytime for that matter.

Revlon + Product Girl on Makeup for a Bouncy Blowout (and a giveaway!)

We’re back with another Revlon-inspired video and a very exciting giveaway, too.

July part deux with Revlon features makeup to complement a bouncy blowout. I’ll be honest, my blowout is not nearly as bouncy as it would be after a visit to my new favorite salon in Chicago (Blowtique, obviously) but a few velcro waves gives a quick lift to the roots.

In this video, I used:

  • Revlon ColorStay Smoky Shadow Stick
  • Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain (in shade Romantic – it’s LOVE!)
  • Revlon PhotoReady 3D Volume Mascara

I like the shimmery pink side of the Smoky Shadow Stick, and find it works great on days where all I want is a little highlight on the inner corners and browbones. When the temps are 100+ degrees (torture for human and animals alike), I don’t like to wear much eye makeup. Just a little lashes, shimmer and done.

Revlon and Makeup for a Beachy Waves Look + a Givewaway

Beachy waves, how I love thee. Effortless (truly, wait until I tell you about my new hair obsession next time!), chic and so summery. In this next video we teamed up with Revlon on, I show off some waves and feature three products to complement the look.

  • Revlon ColorStay Smoky Shadow Stick
  • Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain
  • Revlon PhotoReady 3D Volume Mascara

The Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Romantic is the perfect cherry color (see swatches here), and the Smoky Shadow Stick is a fun double-ended shadow and/or liner. It’s less of a precise liner, but the darker end does have a pointed tip. Our tip with that: wear a primer both on the eyelids and dab it on the lower lash line. It makes a dramatic difference with wear — especially in the summer!

You may have a chance to test it yourselves. Revlon’s provided us with 10 Smoky Shadow Sticks to giveaway to Product Girl readers. Just leave a comment here and tell us your favorite way to wear your hair in the summer! We will pick 10 (ten!) winners on Wednesday, June 20.
