Introducing philosophy loveswept

philosophy loveswept fragrance

The new philosophy loveswept fragrance has hit store shelves and is ready to sweep you off your feet, so to speak. This newest floral eau de toilette from the brand retails from $16 for a 0.50oz. to $46 for a 20z. bottle.

loveswept opens with a burst of bergamot and citrus that slowly fades out and gives way to notes of jasmine, lotus blossom and passion fruit with a base of amber and musk. philosophy describes the fragrance:

loveswept: A vibrant, feminine, romantic and youthful fragrance. by definition, loveswept is about energy and emotion, following your heart and seeing where that can take you and that is the sentiment that philosophy seeks to achieve.

I could not come up with a better description, philosophy definitely captured the essence of this fragrance with these words but let’s discuss this a little further.

My New Obsession: Body Oils

New Obsession: Body Oils

Body Oils have become one of my many new obsessions during my hiatus from Product Girl. I was never a body oil kind of girl, the idea of slathering myself in any kind of oil was completely unappealing… which is odd when I consider how much I love perfume oils! One day I was in a pinch and wanted a big dose of moisture to pamper my skin with and reached for a gift with purchase from the Jo Malone counter, my beloved Nectarine Blossom & Honey in Bath Oil form. I was instantly hooked and wondered why I didn’t try this before. It was one of those “D’oh!” moments. ;)

Besides leaving my skin super soft and glowing, I realized that the scent that lingers on my skin long after the oil has absorbed lasts practically all day. I do not need to layer on any additional scents to get all day wear. I’ve been a hardcore layering girl for some time now so using one product to scent my skin was a revelation. And a nice added bonus? Using a body oil right before bed also scents your linens. I can’t tell you how much I love getting into bed at night now, I lay my head on my pillow and I can smell Amazing Grace on my sheets. Even doctor’s such as Dr. Angelo Cuzalina recommend oils at night because your body has the most time to fully absorb the moisturizing benefits with no chance of having it be washed/wiped off.

Flavor of the Month: Apple

Happy Halloween everyone! This is a favorite holiday of ours — it epitomizes fall, the best time of the year, and there’s candy and trick or treaters. I also like to dress my dog up, which on any other day makes me seem like a crazy dog lady but is totally normal on Halloween. All month long, I’ve been looking forward to this day. Pumpkins, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin seeds and caramel apples. I love a good caramel apple! So much so that apple is the Product Girl Flavor of the Month for October. Here’s a few products we’ve been loving.

  • Philosophy Bobbing for Apples Set – If you are an apple lover, this is where it’s at. Each scent — Green, Red and Caramel Apple — are spot on for the real thing. I literally take a bubble bath almost every night (I know, I’m practically asking for dry skin) and have been loving this trio. It’s a great deal too at $25.
  • Slatkin & Co. Autumn Apple Candle – What’s a bubble bath like without candles? Obviously, I need to set the mood for relaxation! These Slatkin & Co. candles are my favorite because they burn evenly and smell heavenly.
  • Garnier Moisture Rescue Fresh Cleansing Foam – This cleanser, which contains apple water extract, is a fast favorite for me. I love foaming cleansers but they can be drying sometimes — this isn’t, at all. Plus, for $6 you get an extraordinary amount of product and a very deep clean. And using it with the Clarisonic feels amazing!
  • GO SMiLE Green Apple Toothpaste – Do you ever stray from the traditional mint toothpaste? Well, you should. Carla’s been testing GO SMiLE’s Green Apple version and is enjoying the crisp apple flavor. It’s like a surprise when you brush your teeth!
  • Tarte Smooth Operator Tinted Moisturizer Tarte’s Smooth Operator is my kind of tinted moisturizer. It’s a bit thicker but still lightweight and is incredibly moisturizing. I often bust this out once the weather turns cold because it helps soothe my skin from wind and elements. That’s the apple extract doing its job!
  • Josie Maran Argan Lip Treatment – You all know how much I love Josie Maran’s Argan Oil — well I love this too! It’s got natural green apple flavors and it actually treats your lips. It’s perfect for overnight so you wake up with soft, lush lips!

There’s our apple picks — any of your own to share?

Beauty VIP of the Week: Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash

Do you ever come across a product that just changes your life? OK, as dramatic as that sounds, that’s sort of how I feel about this week’s Beauty VIP: Philosophy’s The Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash. I recently started using this and within days was reaping some fantastic rewards. You know, like smooth, even skin.

I use this only in the morning, as the last step before I get out of the shower. Never did I realize that “exfoliating” every day was just what I needed to get amazing skin texture. I say “exfoliating” because it’s so gentle. It resurfaces the skin without stripping it of moisture. This is best used in the morning because at night we shed old skin and all those lotions and potions work their magic! Each morning, I literally am putting my best face forward.

Flavor of the Month: Mint

Product Girl’s flavor of the month for August is mint. We’re not sure anything beats a cool splash of mint in one of the steamiest months. It’s incredibly refreshing. Here’s the minty products we’ve been showing some love.

  • Renee Rouleau Mint Buffing Beads – I’ve been reaching for this little beloved jar of mine all summer long when I need some gentle exfoliation. The beads are super gentle, not harsh or abrasive at all and the formula is creamy, keeping in line with my light hydration regime this season.
  • Philosophy Kiss Me Exfoliating Lip Scrub & Facial – This minty lip scrub is a triple threat: it exfoliates,  moisturizes lips and helps freshen your breath at the same time for less than some other high end lip scrubs. I now have a few scattered around in different places… you should too!
  • Suave Professionals Rosemary Mint Shampoo and Conditioner - I live for the smell of Aveda’s Rosemary Mint shampoo and conditioner, but find it can be a little drying. At less than $3 a bottle,Suave offers a great alternative. I find that it lathers well ( all those sulfates – not minding them here!) and the conditioner provides a smooth finish without weighing my hair down.
  • Bath & Body Works Nectarine Mint Gentle Foaming Hand Soap - This soap is additional proof that mint can be paired with nearly anything. Sometimes nectarine can be too citrusy sweet, but the mint tones it down beautifully. It’s been on my bathroom counter all summer.
  • Origins Zero Oil Deep Pore Cleanser - There’s nothing subtle about the mint in this new cleanser from Origins. It’s minty to the extreme and leaves your skin feeling cool — almost cold! It’s a surprisingly gentle cleanser though, it doesn’t strip your skin of essential oils but rather just the gook and grime we accumulate every day.

Beauty VIP of the Week: Philosophy Inner Grace

It’s been one of those weeks. When each day brings a new challenge and you have more bad moods than good ones. Work’s got me down and even my dog decided to chew some window trim. It’s weeks like these that I need “me” time more than anything. My favorite way to indulge in is to take a bubble bath and just let my mind relax. Philosophy’s Inner Grace was my savior this week. And for that, I declare it this week’s Beauty VIP. This smell is intoxicatingly soothing for me and I absolutely love it. It’s my favorite of Philosophy’s Grace scents and even though it’s a strong scent, I find it less perfumey. Pure peace in a bottle.

I’ll leave you with some words of wisdom from Philosophy. They certainly helped me put my week in perspective!

We live in a world of multiple dimensions with multiple sensations.
there is up and down. forward and backward. left to right. time and space.
we are told that a parallel universe does exist.
we are multi-sensory beings that are cued by sight, sound, smell, taste and touch.
and yet there is one dimension, one sense that is not of this world or any place we know of.
it is found in our inner space and is known by a name called inner grace.
it is a still, quiet voice that connects us to places that live inside our hearts and places beyond this galaxy and the next.
to live in inner grace is to be embraced by the deepest, sweetest peace you will ever know.

Philosophy Going Coconuts Shower Gel Set

Even though we’ve been seeing summer collections for a little while now, I’m only now starting to wrap my head around the idea that summer will be here before I know it. This weekend I found the Philosophy Going Coconuts Shower Gel set and it is actually making me long for summer… which is huge for a gal who loathes the heat.

My favorite summer scent is coconut and this set has 3  shampoo, shower gel and bubble baths in scents that smell absolutely delicious. There is Lime Coconut, Orange Coconut and my personal favorite Pineapple Coconut, which is also sold separately. From the moment I smelled the Pineapple Coconut shower gel, I had visions of tropical outdoor showers floating around in my head. That is when I knew, this set just had to be mine. :)

Our Mother's Day Gift Picks

Have you finished your Mother’s Day shopping yet? I am a last minute shopper…unfortunately. I tell myself every year that I will not wait until a few days before to get my mother a gift but it always turns out the same. And it’s the same for practically everything else in my life. I’m a last minute gal. Since I’m still browsing for my mama’s gift, we thought we would show you some of our picks for Mother’s Day.

Philosophy Field of Flowers Set – $35 – My mom is a Philosophy gal. Every time I visit, I find something new in the house from Philosophy. I swear, she has practically every Amazing Grace product ever made, not that I mind the Amazing Grace hand soap and air freshener in the guest bathroom. Although I think it may be time to introduce her to a new scent from Philosophy, one that will be great for spring and summer. This set was created exclusively for Mother’s Day and it includes an 8oz. body lotion and a 2oz. spray fragrance. Field of Flowers is so fresh and airy that you’ll love smelling this on mom.

Stila Mother’s Day Gift Set – $38 – I like this set so much that I want it for myself but my skin needs a little more than a tinted moisturizer. My mom’s skin, on the other hand, does not. Her skin is gorgeous and she barely wears any makeup. This set could be my way of coaxing her into wearing a little more. This set includes a 1oz. Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer, a Lip Glaze in Mayberry (a shade my mom would definitely approve of), an Eye Shadow Trio in Anya (soft peach shimmer/ soft brown/ deep purple shimmer) and a sample of Stila’s new One Step PrimeColor in Per Suede (dusty rose)… I might have to keep that for myself.

Jurlique Roses Gift Set – $45 – My mom likes to store hand cream all over the place and I don’t blame her, a gal’s got to keep her hands soft but I have to admit, I’m not a fan of the ones she has chosen. This is a great time to introduce her to one of my favorite hand creams ever. You know Jurlique makes on of the best hand creams around, right? This set comes with a Rose Hand Cream and Love Balm, a product I’ve always been curious about. Maybe she won’t mind me trying it when I come over to visit. ;)

Bobbi Brown Antigua Face Palette – $55 – This Bloomingdale’s exclusive palette would be perfect for any gal, not just mom. For the most part, the women in my family are not big fans of bronzers but this palette’s Illuminating Bronzer would be perfect way to start. The shades in this palette include Navajo Eye Shadow, Oat Eye Shadow, Caviar Eye Shadow, Antigua Illuminating Bronzer, Kitten Creamy Lip Color, Pink Ballet Creamy Lip Color and Azalea Metallic Lip Color. I think I’m starting to develop feelings for this Antigua Illuminating Bronzer…

Suki Mother’s Day Collection – $60 – If your mom is looking for a more eco-friendly option for her skincare routine, you need to introduce her to Suki, the line is amazing. I’m partial to her Lemongrass Cleanser. The Mother’s Day Collection combines her skincare with her makeup. It includes her Moisture-rich Cleansing Lotion, Concentrated Nourishing Toner, Bio-C 10% Formula Face Serum, Facial Lift Ultimate Firming Cream, Velvet Moisturizing Cream and a Luscious Lips Berry Cream Trio all in an 100% organic cotton sateen white zip case.

Kiehl’s Discovery Treatments – $98 – I’ve been experimenting with a Kiehl’s regimen lately and one of my new favorite products is the Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I think my mom needs to get involved with it too and this is the perfect Mother’s Day set for her too. She loves lavender a little too much so the Midnight Recovery Concentrate and the Lavenday Body Scrub are right up her alley. This set also includes the Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate and a sample of their Micro-Dermabrasion cream.

What are your picks for Mother’s Day? Let us know in the comments.

New! Amazing Grace Perfumed Deodorant

It was only a matter of time before this happened, Philosophy has recently introduced the Amazing Grace Perfumed Deodorant. I admit, I was immediately interested so I went to Nordstrom on Friday just to pick this new deodorant up.

The packaging reminded me of Cashmere Mist’s deodorant so I had high hopes but I hate to say it, I’m a little disappointed. I bought it for the signature Philosophy Amazing Grace fragrance and I barely got any of that when I used the product, none of its floral muskiness came through. That was one issue, the other was performance. For a high end deodorant, this really needs an upgrade in the performance department… it was failing me by mid-day.

Sadly, this one needs to go back to Philosophy for reformulation. If they improve the formula, it may be worth a shot but until that happens, save your money gals.
