Just Another Mani Monday: OPI Anti-Bleak

OPI Anti-Bleak

This week I’m wearing OPI’s Anti-Bleak, a shade from the Mariah Carey collection. This collection features eight shades, including one glitter and four new “Liquid Sand” shades, but this is the shade I gravitated towards immediately…being a sucker for cremes and all. I’ll have more on the rest of the collection soon but for now, I’m having an Anti-Bleak moment. This rich, deep, creamy purple is just so gorgeous. I didn’t have any issues with the formula, it was great and easy to work with, no dragging and totally opaque in two coats. Next phase of this Anti-Bleak moment is layering it with some various glitters but for now, I’m enjoying this shade in its simplicity.

Just Another Mani Monday: OPI Don't Talk Bach to Me

It’s been awhile since OPI has captivated my attention the way it has with its new Germany collection. Every color is a hit! I’m especially loving ‘Don’t Talk Bach to Me,’ a mustard lime with a subtle slick of silver shimmer. This color is unlike anything I’ve worn before, and I feel my fall nail repertoire lacks something without this addition. There’s something so ugly pretty about this one, and it looks AMAZE with all of the shades of grey and burgundy we’re seeing this season.

What do you think about this color? Would you wear?

SXSW Style

Good food, great music, cheap beer, sunny weather…sigh…I am so wishing I was in Austin this week for South by Southwest.  The mere thought of it makes me giddy for springtime and outdoor concerts.  Just because I’m not in the great state of Texas this week doesn’t mean I’m not day dreaming of  wandering down 6th street and getting breakfast tacos at Kerbey Lane.  And I’ve got to have something to wear in my daydreams, right?!

Anyone lucky enough to be in Austin this week?

OPI Glam Slam! England

The third installment of Serena Williams collaboration with OPI launched this month to coincide with Wimbledon. Unfortunately she didn’t go all the way at the tournament this year but this part of her Glam Slam collection is definitely a hit with me. Serena experimented with different glitter shades and created these shades to wear alone for a pop of color or to layer with the glitter in the bunch; Servin’ Up Sparkle. The other two shades are Your Royal Shine-ness, a metallic silver shade and Grape…Set…Match, a metallic purple.

From Left to Right: Servin’ Up Sparkle,Your Royal Shine-ness and Grape…Set…Match

I only applied two coats on each “nail” here and you can see Your Royal Shine-ness and Grape… Set…. Match do not need anymore coats but Servin’ Up Sparkle could stand for another coat or two but even at two coats is still sparkling and gorgeous. The glitter lover in me loves this shade long time, very safe to say that this shade along with Spark de Triomphe are my favorites from all of Glam Slam shades.

There’s one more release in the Glam Slam collection. The fourth and final installment of the collection will launch in August to go along with the US Open. I cannot wait to see what’s next! What do you think of the Glam Slam releases?

OPI Glam Slam! France Collection

When I first heard of Serena Williams collaboration with OPI, I was a little dubious of what this collection would be like, it was around the time Bieber was in talks for his Nicole by OPI collection so I had a good reason. What I did not know then was that Serena Williams is actually a trained nail technician. I am really liking this collaboration, it has introduced shades that I am now obsessed with and others I am now trying to hunt down. Serena’s first collaboration was launched in conjunction with Australian Open in January and this part of it was launched last month for the French Open.

The Glam Slam! France collection features four shades; Spark de Triomphe paired with a White Shatter and Rally Pretty Pink paired with Red Shatter, each shade and Shatter sold as duos.

I am head over heels in love with Spark de Triomphe, it is such a gorgeous glitter. If a glitter polish could be elegant and rich, it would Spark de Triomphe. I am dying for my nails to grow back so I can wear this baby out. I’m strongly considering hunting down a back up, that is how serious I am about this shade. While it was meant to be paired with the White Shatter, I do not want to cover it up in any shape or form.

OPI Silver Shatter & No More Acrylic Nails for Me!

I have to confess something. I did something very stupid, ladies. I got a set of acrylic nails put on. I got tired of the horrendous bends and dips in my nails and wanted them to look perfect. That’s not too much to ask, is it? While they looked good initially, my nails are now acrylic free after soaking them in 20 minutes of acetone and filing them to within an inch of their life last night. They are in a very sad, paper thin state right now so for now, I want to remember my faux-nails as they were before the great soak off. Right now they are tender and sensitive to almost everything. I will never put on another set of acrylic nails again in my life.

Their last acceptable state was with OPI’s Silver Shatter with Don’t Know… Beets Me underneath. I LOVE the shade underneath, it is fantastic for summer. I scored a lot of compliments with this shade on my tips. I like the contrast between the magenta and the silver so Silver Shatter went on top. I like the way Silver Shatter applied. I picked up a bottle of Sally Hansen’s gold equivalent and it was very thin and barely cracked at all. Silver Shatter has a much better application. It has a wider brush and a thicker formula but it applies evenly if you work quickly. I wish it cracked a little more but at that time, I was happy with the results. I’m now shatter/crackle obsessed. I am trying to hunt down OPI’s Turquoise Shatter and have the China Glaze Crackle Metals to show you soon.

Right now I have a couple coats of Perfect Formula’s Gel Coat Strengthener from QVC on my nails but I feel like I’m not doing enough. What do you turn to when your nails are in need of a SOS? I’d love to hear suggestions from you, I need your help! Not being a nail gal has me at a disadvantage here. My gal Bren at So Much Pretty suggested Seche Vite Rebuild.

Nail Obsession of the Moment: OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection

Right now I am absolutely in love with OPI’s Pirates of the Caribbean collection. Every single shade in this collection is a winner in my eyes, even the pinks and I’m not really much of a pink gal. The pastels and muted gray and green is right up my alley… I only wish it came out earlier, wouldn’t these shades have been gorgeous for an Easter mani? Also, how about this new Silver Shatter? I’m happy to see a brand finally come out with a silver one.

The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides collection includes:

  • Silver Shatter -a  shimmering sea of silver with a two-texture finish.
  • Mermaid’s Tears – few have seen this magical green.
  • Planks a Lot – dive into style with this lustworthy purple!
  • Sparrow Me the Drama – this cool, collected pink means business!
  • Steady as She Rose – this gorgeous pink is your final destination.
  • Stranger Tides – explore this uncharted sea of sage.
  • Skull & Glossbones – best light gray ever, no bones about it.

The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides-inspired Nail Lacquers by OPI contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application.

You can find this collections in professional salons and stores now for $8.50 a bottle. Have you picked up any of these? I think my weekend mani might have to be with Sparrow Me the Drama.

Beauty Bests and Spring Trends from Aveeno Ambassadors

You know what happens when you gather 25 beauty and lifestyle bloggers together for a weekend right? It’s a beauty product extravaganza, and a great learning experience. I for one, love to know what products others are obsessing over and even grilled the Aveeno brand and PR teams on their beauty must-haves.  Thought I’d share a few tidbits with you! There were some clear trends: Lots of lashes and bold lips.

When I arrived at the hotel (Shutters in Santa Monica — gorgeous!) and did a quick change in the lobby bathroom post-flight, pre-spa, I met Jodi from Multitasking Mommy. While I was using Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess bronzer to perk up my face, she was using items in her travel-friendly Trish McEvoy planner. It was at that moment I did a d’oh and put my palm on my forehead — I always forget to travel with my planner!

Nude nails are great for spring. We each got a mani/pedi during an afternoon of spa-ing, and many of us opted for the classic nude shade OPI’s Tickle My France-y. It’s a very chameleon shade depending on the light, and now I’m obsessed with it. I need my own bottle!

Lashes and bold lips, worn beautifully by Elizabeth from Beauty Bets and Romy from Romy Raves. They both have lash extensions, and now I’m fixated on getting them myself. Elizabeth did reveal that pre-extensions she was all about Buxom Lash Mascara. To add to the fabulosity, Romy even had hair feather extensions. You can see them in the photo, they are very cool.

All weekend long, Felicia of ThisThatBeauty sported the most amazing red lip, courtesy of Stila’s Long Wear Liquid Lip Color in Fiery. Check out her recap and see for yourself! Amber of Beauty Junkies Unite also wore an impressive pink lip on several occasions. Among the choices in her bag included a bright color from CoverGirl’s Lip Perfection Lipstick line. Amber was raving about the formula, along with the new CoverGirl Natureluxe Balms.

I also took the opportunity to chat with the Aveeno folks and find out what they most loved from the brand. I lost count with how many folks told me they loved the Skin Brightening Daily Scrub.  I shall add that to my Target shopping list! I also love talking with men about the products they use. The brand manager from Aveeno Baby and Sun Care revealed that he uses Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream as aftershave.

So the moral of this post is play up the lashes, don a bold lip and keep your nails neutral this spring. I’m on board!

Disclosure: Aveeno and RecycleBank sponsored my trip and spa services mentioned in this post.

Just Another Mani Monday: OPI Too Hot Pink To Hold 'Em

Happy Valentine’s Day! I’m feeling the love with OPI’s Too Hot Pink To Hold ‘Em, from the Texas Collection. I loved the sorbet finish so much that I painted both the fingers and toes with this vibrant pink.

I found this finish easy to work with, and while I had to pile on three coats, they applied like a dream. And combine a bright pink glossy manicure with the 40 degree weather today in Chicago, I’m feeling like a million bucks! Now if only I could get some sunshine. The Vitamin D would send me into a serious state of bliss.

What’s everyone doing for Valentine’s Day? And what’s on your nails this mani Monday?
