I'm Obsessed! With OCC Lip Tars

I definitely was not an A student in art class growing up. You may think that’s counter-intuitive since as an adult I’m all about mixing colors and creating makeup magic. Somehow, I don’t think my art teachers tapped into my inner creativity. Had they just told me to create the perfect lipstick at age 8, I know I would have been able to make that happen. Screw paper-mache!

Luckily, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is there to indulge my inner art student. Not only are there limitless possibilities, the outcome is always an obsessively long-wearing lip creation. Carla has created some insanely flattering shades before (see her mixing magic here), but I decided to take some recent shades out for a spin. Tone, a slightly greyed mauve/pink from the spring/summer 2011 collection, and Strutter, a deep mahogany red released last fall.

Mixed together, Tone and Strutter created a guava stain that is so flattering. No modesty here, that shade looks good on. Honestly,  I love it that much more because, well, I custom made it! And to boot, Lip Tars are 100% vegan and free of parabens and other harsh preservatives. They also contain peppermint oil and Vitamin E — a built-in breath mint and inherent moisturizing properties.

The real beauty of OCC Lip Tars is the fun you have making these. I think it’d be fun to grab some plastic containers, some lip tars and invite some girlfriends over for some fun! Sounds like I just planned my next girl’s night in, doesn’t it?

Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Lips & Eyes

Happy New Year to all of our readers! Are you ready to say goodbye to the ’00 decade? We’re gearing up for an exciting year here at Product Girl, but first we need to talk about the best and greatest beauty that 2009 had to offer… and a few products we brought with us into the new year from 2008. We’re starting it all off with our favorite lip and eye products.

Remember when we first talked about Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tars? If you haven’t tried them yet, you’re really missing out. With these liquid lip colors, you can play makeup artist and create a custom shade just for you.

CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stains stole our heart this year. With their great range of shades and their wallet friendly price, they are so hard to resist! Plus the felt tip point to these stains do double duty as lip color and lip liner. Did you pick some up this year?

Continuing on with the liquid lip color, Chanel Rouge Allure Laque was a big hit with us this year. This one delivers on all fronts; long lasting, richly pigmented and feels weightless on the lips. Plus it looks oh so glamorous in your makeup up.

Laura Mercier Lip Velvet is the last liquid lip color we’ll badger you with. Laura Mercier’s is a little different from the Chanel Rouge Allure Lacque, it goes on a bit thicker but feels so cushy on and gives the same long lasting, richly pigmented color that we love.

We have gotten well acquainted with Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencils this year. They have been my go-to lip color when I don’t feel like wearing a lot of color and/or dealing with a lip gloss. As I mentioned, it does a great job of giving me sheer color and keeping my lips moist.

Shu Uemura’s Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine is a major fave around here. I know, we keep telling you.  But this formula stands out in a big way with it’s moisturizing properties and dewy shine. Once you try it, we think you’ll be in love with it just like we are.

We think Stila really shined with its Smudge Pots this year, especially the Stila Kitten Smudge Pot. It’s shimmery champagne goodness is the perfect eye base and brightener. It might be our favorite of the whole “kitten” family.

NARS Brumes Eyeshadow duo is meant for blue-eyed girls! It consists of the most smooth matte charcoal and shimmery blue slate colors, and makes for an amazing smokey eye that really pops.

The Style Black collection was a highlight for us this year – the Greasepaint Stick especially. It’s a great base, a great liner and it performs! No smudging – unless you want it to! –  and it even has a built-in sharpener, which is perfect when you want to get a finer tip to line.

For as many mascaras as we try, Cover Girl Lash Blast seems to always have a home in our makeup bag. It delivers consistent results and plumps up our lashes effortlessly.

Now you tell us, what are your favorite eye and lip products of 2009?

Obsessive Compulsive Makeup Lip Tars: My New Obsession

If you’ve been reading Product Girl for awhile, you probably know that I just love me some lip stains. I go gaga for lip stains, trying all shades and brands I can get my hands on. I still love lip stains but a new product has come along and it’s truly rocked my world… I love them that much. Say hello to Obsessive Compulsive’s Lip Tars.

Don’t let the name or the shades scare you away because when you give Lip Tars a chance, you’ll love them as much as I do. So what’s great about Lip Tars? Well, how about the wear? I was amazed the first time I tried them, they wore like a stain but I had all the coverage of a lipstick on my lips. Then I realized these Lip Tars didn’t dry out my lips like those 8-hour lip colors.
