So what’s on your nails this week? Both Product Girl Jr (my 16 year old sister who shares my beauty obsession) and I are rocking Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in Coral Crush this week and we are enamored with this shade.
There’s so many things to love about Maybelline’s Color Show nail polishes, seriously. From the price per bottle, shade selection, finishes to formula, it is all worth your time and money. We received samples of various shades but have since then picked up several others to add to our arsenal. I have a feeling you will too.
With the exception of this shade, most shades are opaque in two coats, wear for a long time and are easy to apply and work with. Coral Crush needed three coats and was a tad streaky but we don’t mind that since we love the shade so much. It’s gorgeous on all skintones. All in the name of beauty, right?
Vacations are good for the soul. A much necessary break from everything. While Carla was in Vegas for her sister’s wedding, I was in San Francisco. After a day in wine country and a few more spent sightseeing, shopping and eating, my battery is on its way to being recharged. As most vacations go for us beauty girls, we tend to spend quite a bit of time packing our products (usually bringing way too much). Now that I’m back, I can confirm that, once again, that exact scenario happened. Some things will never change. I wanted to give you a glimpse at the makeup I used on vacation and rave about the makeup bag that you need to run to Target to buy immediately. Meet the Sonia Kashuk Completely Organized Bag.
Let me try to quickly breakdown how amazing this bag is. Seriously, I could probably give a 50 minute lecture on the function of this bag. A black nylon makeup bag (the staple of ALL staples) with maroon lining, featuring a front exterior zippered compartment and pouch, two back exterior pouches, an interor with a zippered compartement and SIX side pouches that fit blush, eye palettes, powder and lipstick galore. And it’s $14.99. This bag can do no wrong. I marvel at its wonder. Oh, and it’s only $14.99.
These are the products I used every single day on vacation. I brought along Stila Stay All Day Liquid Foundation & Concealer, in shade Light, which like its other “Stay All Day” counterparts, wears flawlessly for hours and hours (and hours!) The concealer hidden in the cap works on both blemishes and under eyes, so the 2-in-1 option was great for travel. For eyes, I kept it bright and low maintence. Just a pat of bareMinerals Well-Rested Face & Eye Brightener to perk up my undereyes and double as a highlighter (more to come on this – I think it’s magical!), a swipe of Youngblood Cosmetics Eye-Illuminating Duo to brighten under the browbone, lower waterline and inner corners and NARS Eyeliner Stylo in Carpates and Maybelline The Falsies to give the lash line some oopmh. I dusted Jouer Bronzer in Suntan in the “3″ shape on each side of my face and tapped MAC Blush in Legendary from the Marilyn Monroe collab on my cheeks. For lips, I’m having a MAJOR Fresh Berry Sugar Lip Treatment moment. It might be fav Sugar of all. It brightens my face in a very subtle way, and it was perfect for walking around sunny SF with the SPF 15.
Sometimes a simple routine is the way to go!
America’s best selling mascara now comes in color! For this month only, Maybelline has introduced four limited edition shades of its infamous Great Lash Mascara; Go Go Green, Blink of Blue, Totally Teal and Pop of Purple. This mascara is iconic and a cult classic, a staple in many a model’s makeup bag and professional makeup artist’s kit. The formula conditions as it thickens your lashes, is quick drying and washes off easily with soap and water.
A tube retails for $6.40 and this collection is available now in at drugstores and mass retailers everywhere so go ahead and stock up! Look for the new packaging on the tube.
Happy Independence Day! Enjoy the fireworks, barbecues and festivities that help make the 4th of July so amazing! We leave you with our red, white and blue beauty picks.
ILIA Lipstick in Wild Child, this line of organic lipsticks is cause for celebration.
Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr eyeshadow in Too Cool, the perfect shimmery white base to help your brights be even brighter.
Essie Bikini So Teeny, THE nail polish of summer. I love this cornflower blue that is just bright enough to satisfy a neon craving.
For some being “beauty obsessed” means different things. For a “product girl,” I think it means having a sense of adventure. At the core of our love of beauty is having a little fun with our makeup. Be it wearing a bold lip or rocking false lashes; we like to try new things. I can think of nothing more fun in my beauty routine right now than Maybelline’s Dream Bouncy Blush. It’s like a grown-up play doh or something. It’s a cushy powder/gel formula that has actual bounce. Like legit spring! It’s beyond cool. Fingers are the way to go here with application, and the colors are just stunning. Ten in total, but I’ve got a few favs.
Products on a Pedestal is our version of a monthly favorites recap. The products that especially rocked the makeup bag and caught our attention. Last month, Kayla shared her favs. This month, I’ll share mine.
Every brand that is not YSL wants to have a Touch Eclat. Some come close, others not so much. For the price, Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer is perhaps the best budget option I’ve encountered yet. The color ‘Radiant’ has just enough pink in it and does a good job concealing and diffusing.
What a nice surprise! Versace Yellow Diamond is so fresh and floral. I definitely enjoyed wearing this all month, and it is getting me in a spring state of mind. The base is amber and musk but it’s a very sheer scent with tons of floral and a touch of fruit (lemon and pear). Also, I LOVE the big yellow diamond cap.
A bright pink cheek feels so appropriate in the winter. And NARS Gaiety Blush is the perfect pink. The bright hue totally awakens the face. I love that it is matte, so I can wear it that way or layer with a highlighter for more glow.
My wear with everything gloss this month was Tarte’s Maracuja Divine Shine Lip Gloss in Glisten. It’s a peachy nude, so it goes with everything and I remain enchanted by the floral tube. Can you tell I’m excited for spring?!
Benefit Instant Brow Pencil in shade medium helps bring natural fullness to my brows. I love how I barely have to press the pencil to my brows to get the effect I’m after. The spoolie on the other end is so convenient, too, and helps pull my entire look together in 3 seconds.
What products were you all about this past month? Let’s chat about it in the comments!
There’s practically a CVS or Walgreen’s on every other block in downtown Chicago, so impromptu beauty splurges are a regular occurence. Anyone with me on that? What starts out as a run for Q-tips turns into so much more. Sometimes you hit the jackpot, and other times it’s “meh.” The four items I’m RAVING about today are so good, you should probably go run your lunchtime errands immediately.
- Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy Shimmering Spray. I have a love for high-end hair oils, so it even came as a surprise to me when I began favoring this $8 version. It’s infused with hydrolyzed keratin protein, coconut oil and cocoa sead butter, and behaves kind of like a leave-in conditioner with a serious side of shine. I like to use it before I blow dry — the spray mists out the perfect amount of product and it never looks oily. Smells phenom, too. This must be the drugstore hair aisle’s best kept secret.
- Maybelline Super Stay 10 Hour Stain Gloss. YSL just released a similar product last month. But guess what? Maybelline’s version is AS good. The all caps is necessary. I am going nuts for this product. I love the wand, the intensity and the completely wearable shades. Berry Heaven is perfect for bold but not too bold. You can go intense with these and layer them up or wear them transparently. And you can buy practically four of these for the price of one YSL Glossy Stain.
- L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm. If we’re drawing comparisons, this super lightweight balm reminds me of Chanel’s new Rouge Coco Baume. The colors are sheer and the formula is very hydrating. I love how the Pink Satin shade gives my lips the slightest glimmer of baby pink lips without it looking like I applied product to my lips. No color in this collection is off-limits because of its nature. No chance of a “meh” purchase here. Just not possible!
- Aveeno Positively Nourishing Energizing Lotion in Pomegranate & Grapefruit . Even though Grapefruit is listed second, there is no mistaking that citrus in this product. Which is why it’s awesome. I’ve been having a grapefruit moment for like a year now, and this refresh from Aveeno (you’ll recall the Positively Nourishing Lotion in Grapefruit & Rosemary in a pump bottle) is something special. I love the new packaging, and the slightly tweaked scent. Definitely more grapefruit action. Don’t hate me if you can’t find this yet — it’s making its way to stores this month!
Happy Thursday to everyone! Let us know if you try any of these! And we’d love to hear about your drugstore runs lately. There is just so much good stuff happening for under $10 that our minds are spinning.
Well hello, Maybelline. We hardly recognized you in these Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadows. You really know how to keep the product girls on their toes, don’t you? These creamy eyeshadows can hang with the best of the best, and even outperform many. This might be the most exciting drugstore launch we’ve seen in years. Here’s why.
Bright colors and staple neutrals. All-day wear (truly, if you want) and intensity. Creamy texture. For $7.
Too Cool, Bold Gold and Tough As Taupe are sensational. The frosty white makes an excellent base and can double as a highlighter — seriously, some major cheekbone action as a result. Bold Gold and Tough as Taupe are fab on their own and really amp up my eyeshadow game when I wear under the Urban Naked2 Palette.
But back to the brights. Painted Purple, Tenacious Teal, Fierce and Tangy and Edgy Emerald are not for the faint of heart. They are for the girls who want to have some fun with their makeup. At Maybelline prices, fun comes at a dollar amount we can all agree is worth it, right? Have you tried these out yet? Let us know what you think!
I’m addicted to another lip balm, gals. This time it’s Maybelline’s Baby Lips Lip Balm. They are officially available in October but if you’re lucky, your local drug store will have it in stock now. I’m loving these so much that I started with one and went back for three more… I might have to go back for the other two. Not that I need more, that’s just how much of a lip balm addict I am. Am I alone here?
The scoop on these lips balms is that they are super moisturizing and come in clear and tinted shades. I’m telling you, they give Fresh’s tinted Sugar lip balms a run for their money. Not quite the same thick texture but every bit as tinted and moisturizing. In fact, the Cherry Me shade would be a good dupe for the new Fresh Passion if you don’t mind a slightly bluer red… they smell really good too, like candy.
This is what Maybelline says about the formula:
The formula’s secret is the exclusive Botanical Cell Renewal Concentrate with Centella Asiatica. This natural botanical plant native to India, Sri Lanka, Austrailia and other parts of Asia, improves lip coloration and reduces the appearance of fine lines for younger looking, baby-smooth lips. Vitamins E and C, plus natural shea butter, aloe and camphor provide lasting moisturization. SPF 20 protects against damage from harmful UVA/UVB rays.
You got to love a lip balm with SPF 20, so many of them don’t have SPF. If you’re familiar with Nivea or Labello lip balms, these really remind me of those, which is a good thing because I have several of those as well. For $3.99, you can pick one of 6: Quenched (clear), Peppermint (clear), Cherry Me, Pink Punch, Grape Vine and Peach Kiss. If you can’t find them in a store near you, fear not, Target will come to the rescue.
Have you tried these yet? Let me know in the comments.
This week Maybelline’s iconic Great Lash Mascara turned 40 years old. This made me think about one of the first beauty products I started using once my mother started letting me wear makeup. One of those products was Great Lash and to this day, it is probably the beauty product I have re-purchased over and over and over again. To this day, the women in my family still use it. You can’t pry the Great Lash out of my younger sister’s hands!
One thing is for sure, without Great Lash, many of Maybelline’s amazing mascaras wouldn’t be here today. Also, Great Lash continues to be the #1 selling mascara in the US with a tube sold every 1.7 seconds. Can you even imagine that? In celebration of this momentous occasion, Maybelline collaborated with Max Azria, Tracy Reese and Vivienne Tam to create this limited edition release of the infamous pink and green tube.
