My skin has not been co-operating with me lately and I’ve been in a mad dash to try and calm it down as quickly as possible this week. I still needed to exfoliate though so I reached for the most gentle exfoliator I had on hand, Mario Badescu’s Rolling Cream Peel with AHA.
It’s super easy to use and doesn’t require any water. You just take a small amount and apply it to your face in a thin layer, wait about a minute then you gently roll the product off of your face. I had to admit, I didn’t go with a thin layer of product… I’m the type of gal that likes to put glue on her fingers just to peel it off. It’s weird, I know but I enjoy it. Using this peel was just more of the same thing. It does not come off in one or a few pieces but it does roll off easily forming little balls. It can be a little messy though so you’ll want to have something catch the fall out. I actually kind of like seeing the fall out, it makes me feel like I did something worthwhile for my skin. 😉
The aftermath is just smoother skin without any harsh granules or abrasiveness. I haven’t experienced any reactions and so far, I’m pretty happy with this. I just follow it up with a toner and moisturizer. The crazy part is that I picked this product up months and months ago during a trip to Canada and just started using it a couple weeks ago. Sometimes gems get lost in my beauty stash but I’m glad I was able to find this!
As part of the Three Custom Color Sweetest Thing collaboration with Miles Ehan, Mario Badescu is putting their Orange Cleansing Soap, Almond & Honey Non-Abrasive Face Scrub and Honey Moisturizer front and center.
I’ve been using their Orange Cleansing Soap with my Clarisonic this week and I have been loving my results. The cleanser is creamy and doesn’t leave my oily skin feeling tight or stripped, almost as though I could skip my moisturizer. It is gentle on the skin while lightly exfoliating too. This cleanser is suitable for all skin types.
Their Almond & Honey Non-Abrasive Face Scrub is another product that is suitable for all skin types. It is super rich and creamy and has ground almond and cornmeal for exfoliation so it is not abrasive as the name suggests. There are no sharp granules found here. Same results with this scrub, no tightness or dryness felt afterwards, just smooth baby soft skin. It also has the most delicious almond scent to it. All I need is some biscotti and a latte and I would be set! 😉
Finally, I’ve been using their Honey Moisturizer at night. This moisturizer is for sensitive, combination and dry skin but it was a good texture to it that I figured I’d use at a time when my skin could use all the moisture it can get and I can get away without SPF. It is super light so it sinks in and absorbs quickly but also delivers on hydration. It is perfect for skin needing a little more loving this time of year.

Our friends at Mario Badescu offered to write a post for us on skincare so how could we resist? We asked them to share their tips for summer skincare to share with you.
Beach days, camping trips and pool parties do not have to equal premature aging and painful sunburn. Here’s a list of simple dos and don’ts to help protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun.
- Do – Buy the right sunscreen
Buy a sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are the culprit behind that damage that causes skin to age prematurely while UVB rays cause sun burn. Both are linked to elevating skin cancer risk.
- Do – Properly apply sunscreen
The best way to apply sunscreen is to do so at home 30 minutes before you are exposed to the sun and before you put your clothes on. Lots of people get burned right where the skin meets the swim suit because when they were applying they didn’t want to get sunscreen on their suit. Also don’t forget the small bits, ears, feet, neck and any exposed areas of the scalp need protection just as much as arms and legs.
Try Mario Badescu’s Body Sun Block (SPF-30) for your body and Suncare (SPF-30) for your face.
A general rule is to reapply every 2 hours and/or after swimming. If you tend to burn quickly you may need to reapply more frequently.
- Don’t – Use Retin-A, wax or exfoliate when spending time in the sun
All of these things can make the skin more sensitive to the sun. If you are using Retin-A consult with your doctor to find out how to protect yourself in the sun while using this product. Have your waxing done a few days before sun exposure to avoid sensitivity. Types of exfoliation to avoid include scrubs, products with glycolic and alpha hydroxy acids and any kind of peel.
Some people hit the tanning beds before a vacation in the hopes that having a tan before their sun exposure will enable them to avoid burning. Anytime the skin darkens or burns as a result to sun exposure there is damage to the skin. The best thing to do is to avoid tanning completely.

One of my favorite local stores in the Seattle area is Olivine in Ballard. Recently I went in there to take a look at the Mario Badescu line of products. While I didn’t pick up anything at the time, they sent me home armed with samples to play with at home. One of those samples was for Mario Badescu’s Healing Cream.
I’ve mentioned before how I’ve been having issues with my skin misbehaving. I’ve been experiencing redness and dryness due to breakouts. It has been tricky to handle but using Mario Badescu’s Healing Cream has helped. This product is oil-free and contains Balsum Peru to soothe and protect skin. I dab a little of this on my problem areas before bed and literally the next morning the dryness is substantially. It’s a little heavy so I don’t use it all over even though it is oil free but it’s great calming my skin down when I have to tend to certain areas. Since using every last drop of my sample, I’ve gone back to buy the actual product.
I love it when great samples lead to a purchase. Mario Badescu’s samples in particular are really generous in comparison to others. Each sample contains quite a few uses, especially the samples with a cream consistency. I was able to use my Healing Cream sample for weeks! Recently I decided to look at what other products I might benefit from in that line. I went to their website and filled out their consulting questionnaire. Ideally, I should have been presented with a list of products suited to my skin type but instead there was an error processing the form. I thought nothing of it at the time but imagine my surprise when I received an email the next day telling me they were sending me samples of the products they recommended. Now that’s what I call customer service. I haven’t received them yet but I’m sure it will be great when I do.
Moral of the story… go to Mario Badescu’s website and fill out their questionnaire to score yourself from free samples!
