This year for the holidays, I’ve kept my look super simple and it’s been a great time saver. I’ve added just a few products outside of my regular makeup routine to add a little sparkle this season, otherwise it is business as usual. Here are the holiday beauty products that I’ve added to my arsenal this season:
Any time a brand uses social media in a new and exciting way, I am all ears, so to speak. Last year it was NARS and right now that brand is Marc Jacobs.

Oh, how I would love to see more brands do something like this. How about you? Which brands would you like to see follow suit? This definitely seems like something Urban Decay could do, for one.
Growing up, the one thing I looked forward to most on Christmas morning was opening my stocking. At the crack of dawn my sister and I would rush downstairs to the fireplace where our stockings hung to find out what treasures and trinkets awaited us. Now that I’m all grown up (or so I like to say), I love shopping for creative stocking stuffers for my friends and family – pocket-sized goodies that are a bit quirky and unexpected, but still practical. Below are some of the items on my list this year…what’s on your holiday shopping list?
1. For my sister – L’Occitane Hand Indulgences Trio. This limited-edition set comes with three shea butter hand creams inspired by Africa; Desert Rose (Morocco), Hibiscus Flower (Egypt) and Cocoa Flower (Ivory Coast).
2. For mom – Kate Spade pouch. A glitzy way to help mom dress up her cosmetics without being too over the top.
3. For my colleagues – Rad and Bad Sticky Flags. An edgy take on the boring office item, these sticky notes let you flag things ‘Hot or Not,’ ‘Dope or Nope,’ ‘Mack or Wack.’
4. For the jet-setter – Coach Travels Key Ring. Remind your on-the-go friend of places she’s been…or wants to go!
5. For the glamour girl – Essie Cocktail Bling. The name says it all – a cool and stylish color for the winter months.
6. For roommates – Marc by Marc Jacobs Heart Earbuds. A sneaky (and chic!) way for her to make the switch from those blaring iPod speakers to more apartment-friendly headphones.
7. For me! – honeydew intimates. Sexy and comfy at the same time!
Marc Jacobs is back at it again with the release of his popular summer Splash fragrances – this year in Apple, Pomegranate and Biscotti. If you’re looking for a lighter summer fragrance, you should start your search with these. Inspired by the decadence of a patisserie shop (a French bakery!), these scents are indulgent and enticing — but incredibly fresh and light. Making it the perfect summer fragrance!
I’m currently in love with the Apple, it’s such an interesting scent. It’s actually a more masculine scent in my opinion — it’s very energetic and not overly fruity or floral. The notes include apple zest, lemon and grapefruit combined with rosemary, jasmine, magnolia, coriander and cardamom.
And check out the bottle? That’s what 10 oz. looks like – isn’t it huge? I have rather small hands and sometimes hold on with both of them when using this! Marc Jacobs Splash is available at most department stores and at Sephora.
Disclosure: This fragrance was provided to us for consideration in this review.
Before I left for New York Fashion Week, I was obsessed with finding a nice handbag to take with me. I ended up getting this Nordstrom pleated satchel in an off-white shade (which I really do love!) but last night I was browsing Nordstrom online and saw a bag that is making me put a plan into action that my wallet can live with. I’m thinking that this Marc by Marc Jacobs Flash Leola leather hobo is just what I need for this summer. Add turquoise (Pantone’s color of the year by the way), zippers and hobos together and for me, it’s a match made in heaven.
I’m definitely on board with this handbag, are you? What kind of handbag do you love? I just love hobos and satchels. Let us know what type of handbag you love in the comments.
To wrap up our favorite products for 2009, we’re reviewing our picks for bath and body and perfume.
Lisa Hoffman was high on our list of favorites this year, I happen to be obsessed with everything Lisa Hoffman now thanks to my love of her Madagascar Orchid Variations. Lisa Hoffman Bath Soak is a bath experience. To soak in a tub with her bath soak to love her. The same Madagascar Orchid scent is in this product and it is such a beautiful scent.
The La Mer Body Refiner is smooth skin in a tube. It is infused with diamonds and exfoliates the skin without being harsh. Plus is smells amazing, it has a completely refreshing scent for the shower. It is definitely pricey but I loved my sample so much that I went out and splurged on a tube of this.
Anyone with dry feet knows the “slather in vaseline and put on some socks” trick for softer feet but that doesn’t last very long. I don’t know about you but laying on thick layers of vaseline on a daily basis doesn’t appeal to me. With Barielle Total Foot Care Cream, I put the Vaseline behind me this year. It is effective without having to lay it on thick and does wonders for my heels.
Bath & Body Works Triple Moisture Shower Cream is exactly what it sounds like – moisturizing as can be. This may be B&BWs best formulation yet. Laurie’s a huge fan of this lotion-esque body wash and is currently housing the Twilight Woods scent in her shower.
Both a good buy and a fantastic formula, Vaseline Sheer Infusion was a great new product of ’09. It has multiple layers of moisture (they call it Stratys 3) and absorbs really deeply into the skin. We’re a fan because it doesn’t leave our skin with a thick feeling but has the benefits of a deep moisturizer. The Mineral Renewal is our top pick!
Being musk lovers, Tom Ford White Suede was an immediate hit with us. The whole Tom Ford Private Blend White Musk collection is just beautiful but White Suede is our favorite. We’ll take a closer look at that one soon… I promise.
Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne makes us feel all warm and sultry. This floral features blackberry, rose and sandalwood notes for just the right amount of mystery. It’s completely feminine and totally seductive, just like Paris.
When Kenzo takes one of their best sellers and puts a twist on it, we’re all for it and Kenzo Amour Florale is just such a perfume. The original KenzoAmour is warm and sexy but Kenzo changed it up a little bit. KenzoAmour Florale was introduced with notes of neroli, grapefruit and black currant providing the burst of freshness we were looking for.
Is it the gorgeous bottle or the gorgeous perfume? Well, it’s actually both. Marc Jacobs Lola is a warm floral that Laurie instantly fell in love with at first glance and sniff.
We love Philosophy’s State of Grace perfumes and we loved seeing them add a new perfume to their line of fragrances. Philosophy Unconditional Love is a great addition to their fragrances. If you ask us, the fruitiness in Unconditional Love is just what they needed in their line up.
So that’s it! I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing our favorite beauty products from 2009. We’ll be back next year with more of our favorites. 😉 We’re excited by all the new collections we’re seeing so 2010 looks like it will be a great year. What have been some of your favorite products this year? We want to hear all about it in the comments.
Let’s talk Lola. She is super gorgeous, smells like a dream and I just love her. Marc Jacobs hit a home run with his latest fragrance, Lola. Seriously. And I’m not just saying that because I like to stare at the bottle (even though I do, it’s my kind of décor!) It’s because Lola is my kind of fragrance. It’s a flirty, playful perfume and is so dynamic.
When you first spritz it on, you get hints of pink peppercorn, pear and grapefruit. Then the floral notes start to kick in – peony, geranium and rose – and then layers of vanilla, tonka bean and creamy musk appear. And while I’m not always the best judge of notes and technical fragrance speak – I think this is very accurate. It’s not too floral, too fruity or musky. I think it’s a perfect balance of all of the scents I like to wear.
On my last trip to Nordstrom, they were promoting this fragrance and handed out a braided bracelet that had been soaked in the fragrance. I wore it around all day and couldn’t stop smelling my wrist and asking others to smell it too! Even though this was a month ago, I still have that braided bracelet and it still smells like Lola.
I’ve added this to my Christmas list! I’m pretty sure I need a bottle of this on my dresser. Right now, Sephora has some great sets available – and from now until November 2, they are 20% off with code FF2009. My personal favorite – this solid perfume ring…
Have you had a chance to try Lola? Let us know if you have – and if you like it as much as I do!
