Be the Face of Make Up For Ever's New HD Ad Campaign

Remember Make Up For Ever’s unretouched ad campaign last year? It was a first of its kind ad, with the model wearing MUFE’s HD Foundation without any digital enhancements. I try to wear this foundation myself for big occasions or if I just want my skin to look camera-ready in the off-chance photos will be taken. There’s no digital enhancements in my life, either.

Make Up For Ever is taking it a step further this month with an open casting call to find a “real woman” to be the face of the next unretouched HD Complexion ad. The open call for entries kicked off earlier this week and goes through February 1. To enter, Make Up For Ever wants you to create your very own look and submit a photo at Finalists’ photo will be featured in a photo album on the MUFE Facebook page, and the winner will be announced on February 9 and flown to New York for a photo shoot. The ad will highlight Make Up For Ever’s new HD Complexion Starter Kit.

If you have yet to try the HD Foundation, this is a great kit. It includes the HD Microperfecting Primer, Foundation and HD Microfinish Powder and Kabuki Brush.  Buying each item separately would set you back $109, so the kit is a decent value at $79. It comes in all shades, so need to worry about finding a match in a pre-set color. I’m 117 in the HD Foundation – which is exactly what MUFE’s Shade Finder puts me at.

Let us know if any of you decide to enter! We think it sounds pretty cool.

Make Up For Ever Opens its First L.A. Boutique

LA-area ladies, did you know? Make Up For Ever opened its first boutique this past weekend! Judging by the photo, it looks pretty amazing. Huge too — at 1,300 square feet (bigger than my condo, in fact) the space is reminiscent of a backstage, industrial environment complete with make up stations and video projections on the walls.

And…perhaps the coolest element in this boutique is the Make Up Lession Recording Studio. Literally, a glass enclosed makeup station where you can have your own personalized makeup session with a pro artist recorded. That way, all of the step by steps and tips you learn can be saved for you to recreate on your own. But not on a boring DVD…rather a lipstick-shaped USB. Cool right?  So if you area in the area, you need to GO and tell us about it.  It’s located at 132 South Robertson Boulevard in LA. What are you waiting for?!

New! Make Up For Ever Uplight

Make Up For Ever is all about the shine and glowing skin right now and I am loving it! How about you? Their new Uplight Face Luminizer Gel is making its way to a Sephora display near you very soon (if it hasn’t arrived already) and is available online now. Uplight is available in dewy, pearly and sparkling finishes to highlight and sculpt skin for a radiant complexion that can be applied anywhere on the face and body. It has an oil-free formula that is composed of more than 70% water and has mango butter to nourish skin.

Uplight retails for $29 and is available in 8 different shades. The highlighter fiend in me is dying to check these out in person. How about you?

Make Up For Ever Lab Shine Collection

Have you checked out the new Make Up For Ever Lab Shine glosses yet? MAKE UP FOR EVER introduced their Lab Shine glosses in February and I have been loving them since then, I’ve just been a bad beauty blogger and neglected to tell you about them until now. Bad Carla!

These new glosses come in a whopping 35 shades in three different collections: Diamond, Star and Metal.  All them deliver on shine and color. The Diamond collection has 12 shades and is formulated with their Diamond Powder to provide transparent, natural looking color with shimmering, glittery shine. The Star Collection has 14 shades and is blended with Star Powder for an iridescent mother-of-pearl finish. Finally the Metal Collection features 9 shades and has their Metal Powder blended in it for an intense chrome, mirror finish.

Best of 2010: Our Favorite Lip Products

It was really hard to narrow down our favorite lip products of 2010, because we saw the arrival of so many amazing products. And for as much of a gloss fiend I consider myself to be, most of the lippies I tipped my hat to in 2010 are lipsticks! Here’s a closer look at what we deem to be the best of the best in lips for 2010.

Chanel Rouge Coco – It all began with those gorgeous ads of Vanessa Paradis wearing Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle. I saw these in nealry every bus station and train stop in Chicago for months. Great ads, yes. But, absolutely great lipstick to back it up! I love the color selection and the formula works great on my lips. It’s long-lasting and looks and feels luxurious. My favorite shade, and I now have many, is by far Chintz from the Chanel’s Fall Collection.

NARS Pure Matte – The return of the matte lip for fall was a trend that made me wary, but we both love NARS Pure Matte. These are a fresh and updated version to the matte lip and this formula does not give you “Sahara lips.” Carla got a lot of wear time with Volga, and I rotate often between Bangkok and Tashkent, the perfect rosy and nude, respectively, shades.

Tarte Natural Lip Stain – Tarte’s Natural Lipsurgence Lip Stain revolutionized stains for us by introducing a glossy, moisturizing one this spring. They’ve got jojoba seed oil, vitamins E and C and, like all Tarte products, none of the “bad” stuff. They have a refreshing minty effect as well due to the addition of peppermint oil. We always have one of these nearby — a must if you haven’t tried yet!

Chanel Extrait de Gloss – Before you wonder if I’ve lost that loving feeling for gloss, just know, it’s still there! Chanel’s Extrait de Gloss is easily my favorite gloss launch of the year. The colors are so pigmented, yet sheer and juicy (I’m FULL of contradictions in this one, I know!). I love the nude shades, but the bright pink Insolence has left a lasting impression on me.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture – Carla’s all about this lipstick in Rose Stiletto, a rich berry rose that livens up her lips. The formula is feather light and it glides on the lips ever so easily. This lipstick is packed with pigment for full coverage and doesn’t dry lips out while it gives long lasting wear. Even though it’s got staying power, she can’t help but constantly pull this out of her makeup bag to touch up… the tube is so chic!

Carmex Moisture Plus Tinted Lip Balm – I discovered these in the fall, but now that it’s winter, I’ve been putting these on full-time duty. They’re the Carmex we know and love, but updated and with a tint! A perfect tint of color — a neutral pink or peach option. The fact that these are only $3 blows my mind.

MUFE Rouge Artist Intense – What impressed us the most with Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense is the pigmentation and the finishes. Not everyone likes a matte lip, or a satin, etc. — and these come in three different finishes across 50 shades. I really like the bright satin pink (#37) used just slightly on with a clear gloss over it. It’s very brightening to my face. Carla did an awesome ombre lip with some of the nude shades for the MUFE Lips to Love contest. While we didn’t win (tear!), it was fun to do!

Fresh Sugar Plum Tinted Lip Treatment – The original Fresh Lip Treatment is a legend in beauty circles, but with each new release, they keep upstaging themselves! Sugar Plum is my favorite yet because of its light berry color. It’s so flattering on my fair skin, not too dark or bright, and I love the scent and flavor. Can’t get enough of this product.

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense Offers Full Color in One Swipe

Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense gives new meaning to the word pigment. I swear, all I did was look at #48 and I ended up with a dark satin lip. It’s a makeup miracle! Formulated with 50 percent more pigment than the traditional lipstick, Rouge Artist Intense gives off some serious color in just one swipe, or less. Available in 50 shades across three finishes – matte, pearly and satin – these creamy, effortless lipsticks offer something for probably just about everyone.

I tested three shades: #37 satin bright pink, #20 pearly rust and#48 satin blackcurrant.

In these swatches, I just glazed the lipstick across my hand once. They are truly intense – particularly #48 blackcurrant. As for the wear, they are long-lasting and very creamy. I wouldn’t say this a moisturizing lipstick, but with a balm underneath they hold up well and don’t dry your lips out. I really like #20 in pearly rust. It’s a perfect fall color that I find easy to wear. These are opaque, so if a sheer lip is more your style, then this probably isn’t the best formula for you. They are available exclusively at Sephora for $19.

With the release of Rouge Artist Intense, Make Up For Ever also released a shade finder to help you select the best finish and color to suit your skin tone. I played around with it myself, and found it pretty cool. But I ‘m a rule breaker, so had no problem playing with the three shades that weren’t technically a match! Let us know if you’ve tried this formula and what you think! Or, let us know if you’ve got some questions that perhaps we haven’t answered.

Splurge vs. Steal: e.l.f.High Definition Powder vs. MUFE HD Microfinish Powder

Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinish Powder seemed like such a big deal when it was released a few years ago. I recall getting a “lab sample” from Sephora online and being really impressed.  At the time, it was innovative and there’s no doubt it works. But for such a simple concept — mineral silica powder — I definitely balked a bit when I bought the full-size! Sure, I splurge all the time but this just seemed so simple for $30.

Other brands have since developed similar products, but trust me when I say that e.l.f.’s High Definition Powder is your best bet. At $6, it is a worthy steal and a great addition to your makeup bag. It works in the same way and it gives your skin a fresh, soft focus in photos. I really like the product and I love the price. This is a good one ladies!

What's New in Beauty: August 15, 2010

Jo Malone introduced a new scent – English Pear & Freesia – inspired by a walk in the orchard. Every note sounds divine!

There’s a new liquid lipstick in town, courtesy of Korres. The Raspberry Antioxidant Liquid Lipstick is available in five, high-pigment shades and contains raspberry and pomegranate extracts and certified organic acai palm pulp oil.

Winging it tonight: Benefit launched a liquid liner called Magic Ink. You can see it in action on Secret Life of a Benefit Gal, the company’s blog.

Nordstrom is running a 12-piece gift with purchase with any $100 purchase. We’re digging the bag – always a sucker for a great makeup bag.

Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Intense is formulated with 50 percent more pigment than traditional lipstick – and it was released in 50 (yes 5-0) shades and three finishes, from matte to pearly to satin.

Tarte Cosmetics is now available at Ulta. This excites us very much – another place to access a brand we heart.

In sustainable packaging news:  Procter & Gamble will begin using renewable sugarcane-derived plastic in select Pantene, Cover Girl and Max Factor products next year. (via Environmental Leader)

Make Up For Ever for Tyler Rose at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim

For the Tyler Rose show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami, Make Up For Ever key artist Lottie created a fresh, sun kissed make up look that was inspired by David Lee Roth’s iconic “California Girls” music video. The skin had a subtle pink flush around the eyes and cheeks, and the eyes were defined with shades of black and rose.

Complexion & Cheeks: To get a strong flush on the entire cheek, apply MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Microfinish Blush #6 starting at the outer temples and sweeping downward to the apple of the cheeks.

Eyes: Apply MAKE UP FOR EVER Eye Shadow #152 to the entire lid and crease, extending to the base of the brow bone. Next, apply MAKE UP FOR EVER Eye Shadow #132 to the outer corners of the eye lid and sweep the color into the crease. Add more definition by lining the inner and outer lash lines with MAKE UP FOR EVER Waterproof Liner #1 in black. Finish with a thick coat of MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Smoky Lash.

Lips: To give the lips a pinky red pout, Lottie applied MAKE UP FOR EVER Lipstick #204 to make the color pop.

For this look, we’re giving away 1 Flash Color in #5, 1 HD Microfinish Blush in #6 (salmon pink) and 1 Lipstick in #204 (cream cherry red). Altogether, this is a $62 value.
