If there’s one person I love to pamper, it’s my mom. I love making her feel special and beautiful. I only hope that one day, I have children that share this same philosophy. And I’ll have hopefully trained them all to be beauty lovers, too. An army of product girls and boys is what I’m aiming for. If you’re looking for some ideas to spoil your mama this holiday season, here are our picks!
- Bobbi Brown Party Collection Mini Brush Set – Moms love Bobbi Brown. I mean, who doesn’t, really? Even for the non-makeup maven mama, Bobbi Brown is known as a trusted beauty advisor. This brush set, featuring one of my most-used brushes, the Mini Face Blender, also comes with a gunmetal carrying clutch. $60, BobbiBrown.com
- Kate Somerville Refinery29 Winter Essentials Kit – If there is one thing a mom will appreciate it, it’s quality skin care. Plus, this set contains an anti-aging powerhouse (Kate’s Clinic-to-Go pads) without the words “anti-aging” blasted over it. Perhaps desired, but not always what you want to overtly gift mom. Through December 24, purchase for $69 at Refinery29 Reserve. (Oh, and we’re giving away a kit — enter here by Friday, Dec. 16!)
- Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour Palette – The soft and feminine shades in this eyeshadow palette have mom written all over it. It’s sophisticated and sexy, and even comes with a double-sided brush. $48, Nordstrom
- Kérastase Elixir Ultime – Chances are, your mom color treats her hair. To help minimize heat and styling damage, a hair oil is a necessary luxury. Emphasis on the luxury. What’s more pampering than Elixir Ultime, with a blend of four oils that work on all hair types? $54, Birchbox.com
- Fresh Mini Sugar Kissing Trio – Why get one, when you can get three? Fresh packed its three newest Sugar Balms – Sugar Plum, Sugar Honey and Sugar Passion – into a made-for-gifting (and hoarding) set. My mom loves these (like mother, like daughter), but I know she’s not likely to splurge on lip balm on her own. I picked this set up for my mother-in-law, and am anticipating she’ll be hooked, too. $28, Sephora
- Decleor Nourshing Treasure Trove Set – This set is so beautifully packaged, and contains just what mom needs to feel pampered and hydrated. The trove includes Nutridivine Soft Cream, Aromessence Angelique, Aroma Solutions Lip Balm and Aroma Night Angelique Night Balm. $77, DecleorUSA.com
It’s that time again. When it’s summer, but we’re talking about fall. Completely normal, right? Regardless, it’s exciting! While we’re very happy coddling our bronzers and brightly-colored eyeliners, the allure of fall makeup is very strong. Case in point: Laura Mercier’s Fall 2011 Canyon Collection.
For fall, Laura Mercier gives us beauty inspired from the earth – burning sunsets, lush green foliage and rustic copper canyons. Makes me want to go hiking (with a full-face of makeup on, naturally!) The look is balanced between eyes, lips and cheeks in the most natural, flattering hues. This is one we’ll be running to check out. Here’s the scoop on the collection:
Cheek Melange ($40)
- Canyon Sunset (limited edition)
Eye Colour ($22)
- Canyon Clay (sateen) new, limited edition
- Chocolate (luster) new, limited edition
- Pine Bronze (sateen) new, limited edition
- Cedar (sateen) new, limited edition
Lip Glace ($22)
- Quartz (new, permanent)
- Mauve Plum (new, permanent)
- Desert Rose (new, permanent)
- Brick (new, limited edition)
Lip Colour ($22)
- Bing Cherry (new, permanent)
- Espresso (new, permanent)
Any standouts for you? Obviously, we are quite drawn to the Cheek Melange but the new lip and eye colors are quite stunning. I love the point of view of this collection, and think it’s one of Laura’s best. The collection is available online now, and should be headed to counters in the next few weeks. This has us very excited for fall — but please, no hurry on cooler temps!
One of my favorite gifts to give to the ladies in my life are lip gloss sets. They’re functional and fun — and the choices seem endless so you’re bound to find the perfect set for pretty much everyone. Here are a few of my top picks this year!
Benefit’s Triple the Glossy Set, exclusive to Ulta, is a serious great deal. For $18, you get three full-sized Ultra Shine Lip Glosses. Isn’t that amazing? Also amazing…the formula. They have a light fruity scent (apricot-lychee to be exact) and the gloss is so cushy. I’m obsessed with the middle shade shown above…Fresh Squeezed. It reminds me of NARS Orgasm a bit.
Senna’s Lip Pics Kit is adorable. Inside are five tiny glosses, and slots to hold pictures (or other papers, cards). While I like the idea of toting photos, they’re mostly all on my iPhone, so I like to toss this in my purse and use as an organizer for lists, business cards, notes and I think I even threw a few hair ties in there! Definitely a great gift idea.
I was a happy girl when I saw this addition to Korres Lip Butter line: Lip Butter in tube, glaze form. You can purchase them individually, but three is always better than one! If you live in a cold climate — which is practically the whole United States this week — this gift is sure to get a lot of use. These babies are moisturizing to the max.
I do love this set of Laura Mercier Mini Lip Glaces — especially the colors chosen. I have turned my mother into a Laura Mercier junkie (she loves the Tinted Moisturizer especially), so I think this would be a perfect gift for her. I like to pamper her and gift her with things she wouldn’t normally buy on her own.
Anyone else like to give the gift of gloss for the holidays? Let us know your top picks!
Disclosure: We received a sample of the Benefit Ultra Shine glosses, but I also purchased the set on my own. We also received a sample of the Senna Lip Pics Kit.
Do you believe in love at first blush? I definitely do and I think in the case of Laura Mercier’s Second Skin Cheek Colour in Lotus Pink, it was love at first swatch on the hand at Macy’s. I stopped by to check out the new Mystique collection, namely the new Sequin Eye Colours but I got distracted by the blushes. Lotus Pink is not a new shade but it’s being repromoted along with the new cheek colour in City Pink. And thank goodness for that because this beauty may not have otherwise entered my life.
It’s a warm pink that’s bright yet soft and so unbelievably flattering. It’s got a pearlescent finish that gives the skin a glow. It may not be the most striking blush on the block at first glance, but it is all sorts of magic on the skin. This is one of those shades that I could wear every single day. And for a while, I just might.
I admit, I have a thing for handbags… but I can’t always afford what I want. When I was in high school, I’d buy my bags at TJ Maxx or Marshalls and back then, spending $30 or $40 on a bag was a lot! Now my handbags are more expensive but I only buy them when I spot a good sale!
For example, I just got this Botkier Brooklyn Leather Hobo from Gilt Groupe. I’ve been coveting Botkier for a long time so I was excited to get one. There’s another brand I’ve been coveting for awhile: Kooba. I can’t bring myself to spend more than $200 on a bag right now but when I do, it will be a Kooba. For now, I’ll be content with this.
Kooba and Laura Mercier joined forces to introduce this new Laura Mercier Color Palette housed in a stylish Kooba clutch that has room for a few of your cards and your makeup! Imagine the curious looks you’d get if you pulled this out of your bag and people saw it carries your makeup and your debit card… I bet the girls would be envious. 😉
It looks like this palette has everything you need for a fully done face. It includes Lip Glazes in Berry, Lotus Bloom and Soft Pink, Eye Colors in Sable, Primrose and Black Plum, Cheek Colors in Rose and Plum, Crème Glow Veil in Sunlit, a mini Long Lash Mascara in Black and an eye color/smudge double-ended brush.
Right now it’s only available as a pre-order and ships around 8/20 but I’m definitely tempted… how about you?
This morning I saw an email in my inbox telling me Laura Mercier was going on sale at Gilt Groupe on Thursday and I suddenly got very, very excited. The gals here at Product Girl have a very deep abiding love for the Laura Mercier line.
The sale begins on Thursday, June 10th at noon EST and includes lip and eye collections to delicate bath and body combos. The Luxe Lip & Eye Collection 5-piece Kit & Case you see above originally retailed for $75 but will be on sale for $37.50. This is the kind of sale we can definitely get behind.
Here’s a sampling of the sale:
Eye Color Pot& Brush Bronze Gold
Original Retail: $66, Gilt: $34
Spring Blooms Collection 6 Piece Set and Tote
Original Retail: $114, Gilt:$48
Body & Bath Duo Crème Brulee
Original Retail: $40, Gilt: $24
If you don’t have an account with Gilt Groupe, you can sign up for one here. You can even shop by phone with their handy iPhone app. I just used it last week during their Joeur sale. 🙂
We wanted to share a fabulous beauty deal that we came across that might just be too good to pass up!
Through Sunday, April 18, with any $65 online purchase at Laura Mercier, you’ll receive a full-size eye basics in the eyebright color. We love these – very similar to Trish McEvoy’s Eye Base. Additionally – you’ll get three sample packets at checkout – nude tinted moisturizer, face primer and flawless eye creme. We love deals like this!
Spring weather is here, which means summer beauty is soon to be in full-swing. But before we start lathering on sunscreen and bronzer, we thought we’d give a nod to our favorite products from spring, before they disappear from counters and lose that top spot in our makeup bags. We may say this every season, but there were so many amazing beauty products in spring collections. It really was very difficult to narrow down the best of the best. But here goes, in no particular order…
Chanel Spring 2010 Collection – this Chanel Spring collection had us at “hello”, it is classic and totally wearable. It was packed full of neutral shades ranging from pink and beige to warm brown and khaki, shades that would look good on any woman. We loved practically everything about it, including the now famous Le Vernis in Particuliere. This is the greige nail color that started it all a few months ago and was all the rage. We definitely fell for it and even found a great dupe along the way.
Laura Mercier Radiant Creme Cheek Color – Product Girl should almost be synonymous with “addicted to highlighters.” We really have a thing for them and this lovely creme highlighter from Laura Mercier’s Polished collection is well, radiant. Three-fourth’s of the pan is a peachy pink highlighter, a tiny strip of metallic gold and the remaining fourth is a cranberry red. Mixed together it is a beautiful blush, but it’s almost too pretty to do that so we’ve been playing it safe and using it primarily as a highlighter and lovely it is.
During the holidays, I was all about this Laura Mercier Laura’s Secrets Volume 1 – Flawless Lips set. I even drove to 3 Sephora’s trying to get it because I like instant gratification… you probably know by now that I am not a big online shopper. After the holidays, I started getting into the new spring stuff so this set and I lost touch, it wasn’t something I would reach for because I had other new, shiny things to play with. Well, what do you know? I found it again when I was in the midst of organizing and I thought I better write about it so you can get in on this Laura Mercier lip love fest before it’s gone!
Oh how I love this limited edition set, let me count the ways. First, it has a lip stain quad! Now, this isn’t your traditional lip stain… I’m not sure that I would even call it a stain but what it does do is give lips long lasting color. It’s creamy and will stay creamy on your lips, it will not dry out like some long wearing lip colors. At it’s core, it’s still a lipstick. I really like the shades in this quad, I find myself using Shy Pink the most but I also like to wear Sugar Violet a bit sheered out. You have a few different looks to rock with this quad.
It’s a good week when Laura Mercier release two new face palettes, wouldn’t you say?
Laura Mercier’s Zen Face palette is currently available at Nordstrom, and features a mix of colors to create a fresh look for spring. I’m drawn to the mint eye shadow and the lip glazes. And I LOVE the palette case.
Laura’s Polished Face Palette is a Sephora exclusive and features some of her best neutral shadows (love African Violet!) and two cheek colours in Rose and Orange Blossom. This is a very pretty palette and one that I would certainly get a ton of use out of.
Are either of these grabbing your attention? Let us know in the comments.
