This past weekend, I ventured to Nordstrom’s to do a little beauty browsing. I especially love doing this when new seasonal collections launch because it’s always fun to see what and who can draw me in. As I was casually strolling by the Lancome counter I smiled at one of the associates and couldn’t help but notice how amazing her eye makeup looked with a bright pop of teal. Then I looked at the other woman working the counter and noticed how amazing her makeup was and I just stopped in my tracks. And let me just give you some context: greens aren’t something I usually gravitate towards. But these ladies were rocking this teal majorly and I needed to know more!
The teals and corals you’ll find in Ô My Rose are so stunning – and I think refreshingly unique. We’ve been blessed with a new shade of Lancome’s Ink Artliner in Teal Delight – a gel liner that is rivaling others in my makeup bag – and a smooth, beautifully pigmented Color Design Eye Shadow Quad in Pop’ n Green. I let the makeup artist on duty use both of these products on me and I loved the results. She finished the look off with the new Pop’n Cheeks Blush in Coral Flirt and the La Laque Fever Ultimate Lasting Full Color in Mandarina. I intended on buying it all – but the eye shadow quad was already sold out. Luckily, I was able to snatch the the last Teal Delight!
This collection is jampacked with another Color Design quad in Kissed By Copper, more lip colors and kohl eyeliners (one of which is also an amazing teal!). But I urge you to check out the Artliner if you do nothing else this spring! It’s truly stunning and if my counter is any indication, it’s going to fly off shelves.
You can check the collection out in full, along with the looks Lancome put together, on www.lancome-usa.com.
Lancôme’s Hypnose Drama was the first of the ‘S’ shaped mascara wands to hit the market and it got a lot of immediate buzz. Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto Voluptuous, which is launching in drugstores nationwide, is the closest in shape to the Hypnose Drama wand. However, I’d say the similarities likely begin and end there.
Let’s talk Hypnose Drama first. I am a fan of this wand because I think it helps curve with your lashes and lengthen them. I find that it does create some major lashes if I take my time and build it up right. The formula is solid and doesn’t flake on me at all – and I wear my makeup for 12+ hours on most days. But there’s a downside. This a very wet mascara and it tends to clump on the wand. Maybe it’s the ‘S’ shape and the way it wiggles out of the tube? I’m not sure, but it is a slight hindrance. The way I’ve been dealing is to blot the excess off before application. There have been times I’ve also just dealt with the excess and went straight to my lashes. I’ve been able to work it out just fine and keep combing the wand through my lashes. Again, if I’m being patient this method can work and still be clump-free.
As for Maybelline Lash Stiletto Voluptuous, I find this to be a much drier formula. If I’m doing a direct comparison of the wands, I’d say this is a less dramatic ‘S’ shape and it’s thinner a little bit flimsier. It does a really great job of lengthening my lashes and it maintains a curl pretty well too. This I like, a lot. But, it flakes. Oh, it flakes bad on me. After a few hours, I noticed a couple of random black flecks under my eye or near my nose. I’ve tested this a handful of times to make sure it wasn’t a “flaking” fluke, but each time I experienced flaking. In the words of Liz Lemon, this is a dealbreaker.
Aside from shape, I don’t see a lot of similarities in these mascaras. I think each has its pros and cons, but unfortunately for Lash Stiletto Voluptuous, I can’t handle the flaking. I’m going to stick with Hypnose Drama because I think it is a pretty innovative mascara and, excess product withstanding, it does produce great results.
Just in from WWD…Julia Roberts will become Lancome newest global ambassadress joining Kate Winslet and Anne Hathaway. Here’s the scoop straight from WWD.
Pretty Woman has succumbed to the charms of the beauty industry: Julia Roberts, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, has been tapped as the “global ambassadress” for Lancôme, WWD has learned exclusively.
“By her remarkable personality and career, Julia Roberts is an emblematic woman of her time,” said Youcef Nabi, president of Lancome International. “Her exceptional talent, her radiance and her strong commitments perfectly echo Lancôme’s values. We are convinced she will embody the brand in the most sublime way possible.”
Lancome executives declined to give further details on the relationship between Roberts and the brand, including the amount the actress is being paid to sell the products, the length of her contract and specific duties, saying more would be revealed early next year.
Roberts is the latest in a string of Hollywood A-listers entering the beauty realm — and one of the industry’s biggest “gets” in years. Demi Moore was signed to a similar deal with Lancôme sister brand Helena Rubinstein, as the face of its Wanted fragrance, earlier this year.
What do you think about Julia as one of Lancome’s new faces? I think this is a great move on their part. Julia is a unique beauty and I think she’ll do great things working with Lancome… can’t wait to see her ad campaigns!
I’m a sucker for a few things: red lipgloss and nail polish, cute packaging and good causes. Right now Lancome has all of that in their Ma Cherie Cherry set from their La Collection Lollipop.
Lancome worked with the Lollipop Theater Network to create these limited edition gift sets. Each set contains a Color Fever Gloss and a Le Vernis Nail Polish in lollipop inspired shades like Mademoiselle Grape, Bon Bon Strawberry and Ma Cherie Cherry. And a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of each La Collection Lollipop set will be donated to the organization. The Lollipop Theater Network is a nonprofit organization that brings the magic of movies currently in theaters to children and teenagers hospitalized due to chronic or life-threatening illnesses.
I have not yet picked up a set myself but I intend to! The colors are so bright and fun that you can’t help but zero in on them and love them. Sadly, I neglected to tell you about these sets when I first saw them pop up in stores but better late than never, right?
Tis the season…for more Friends and Family sales! Starting today through November 30, Lancome is offering a 20% discount (plus free shipping!) on orders placed on lancome-usa.com. Just enter the code HOLIDAYJOY2 at checkout!
We’re eyeing up the new Oscillation Powderfoundation, how about you?
Oh Lancome, if you would have just waited 10 or so more days, I could be meeting one of my favorite authors. Jennifer Weiner, the word goddess who wrote Good in Bed and In Her Shoes (that movie makes me cry every single time), will be at the Lancome Boutique on New York’s Upper West Side on Tuesday, July 14th. They’re hosting Jennifer’s very first book signing for “Best Friends Forever,” her highly-anticipated new book. While you’re there, buy $75 worth of product and you’ll get a complimentary autographed copy, all while enjoying champagne and cupcakes.
If can’t make it to New York to meet Jennifer in person or enjoy champagne and cupcake (I think Nordstrom or Sephora should do this ;0 once in awhile), you can enter to win a copy of Jennifer’s new book at the Lancome blog. Just leave a comment on this post with what you’re currently reading.
By the way, what are you reading? I just finished the Time Traveler’s Wife last night and need something new. I’m excited about the movie. I am secretly in love with Eric Bana and am dying to see his Henry. Let me know in the comments!
Lancome just debuted their Fall 2009 makeup collection called Declaring Indigo, the latest creation from their artistic director Aaron De Mey. The collection debuted in Paris, celebrating the beautiful city and the collection features hues of indigo blue, bright red and luxurious gold.
Some of the items were using during Fashion Week. All three Le Vernis nail colors (Golden Audacity, Indigo Paris and Rouge Liberty) where used at the Chris Benz show. You can get your hands on this collection when it hits counters in August but just in case that’s just too long to wait, check out this gorgeous Nordstrom exclusive brush set:
I’ve been excited about everything Aaron De Mey has done since he landed at Lancome and this I cannot wait to find out more about this collection. Here’s a peak at a few more items from this collection:

Angelina Jolie looked dazzling yesterday, did she not? I loved the dress, loved the makeup, loved the hair but most of all, I loved her jewelry. It’ wasn’t overkill and gave her look the right amount of pop. Beautiful!
Here’s the scoop straight from Lancome:
Angelina Jolie looked stunning in a black strapless Elie Saab gown paired with beautiful emerald-colored jewels which added a striking burst of color. Celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton created Angelina’s flawless look. Mary applied Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to the upper and lower lash lines. She emphasized the shape of Angelina’s eyes by applying more liner to the outer corners of the eye. Several coats of Ôscillation Mascara were applied to the upper lashes for added volume and length. Mary put a touch of pink to the cheeks using Shu Uemura Blush in M Pink 31 and applied it to her cheekbones near the temple. To create ultra-shiny and luminous lips, Mary used Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling.
