Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Bath, Body & Fragrance

To wrap up our favorite products for 2009, we’re reviewing our picks for bath and body and perfume.

Lisa Hoffman was high on our list of favorites this year, I happen to be obsessed with everything Lisa Hoffman now thanks to my love of her Madagascar Orchid Variations. Lisa Hoffman Bath Soak is a bath experience. To soak in a tub with her bath soak to love her. The same Madagascar Orchid scent is in this product and it is such a beautiful scent.

The La Mer Body Refiner is smooth skin in a tube. It is infused with diamonds and exfoliates the skin without being harsh. Plus is smells amazing, it has a completely refreshing scent for the shower. It is definitely pricey but I loved my sample so much that I went out and splurged on a tube of this.

Anyone with dry feet knows the “slather in vaseline and put on some socks” trick for softer feet but that doesn’t last very long. I don’t know about you but laying on thick layers of vaseline on a daily basis doesn’t appeal to me. With Barielle Total Foot Care Cream, I put the Vaseline behind me this year. It is effective without having to lay it on thick and does wonders for my heels.

Bath & Body Works Triple Moisture Shower Cream is exactly what it sounds like – moisturizing as can be. This may be B&BWs best formulation yet. Laurie’s a huge fan of this lotion-esque body wash and is currently housing the Twilight Woods scent in her shower.

Both a good buy and a fantastic formula, Vaseline Sheer Infusion was a great new product of ’09. It has multiple layers of moisture (they call it Stratys 3) and absorbs really deeply into the skin. We’re a fan because it doesn’t leave our skin with a thick feeling but has the benefits of a deep moisturizer. The Mineral Renewal is our top pick!

Being musk lovers, Tom Ford White Suede was an immediate hit with us. The whole Tom Ford Private Blend White Musk collection is just beautiful but White Suede is our favorite. We’ll take a closer look at that one soon… I promise.

Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne makes us feel all warm and sultry. This floral features blackberry, rose and sandalwood notes for just the right amount of mystery. It’s completely feminine and totally seductive, just like Paris.

When Kenzo takes one of their best sellers and puts a twist on it, we’re all for it and Kenzo Amour Florale is just such a perfume. The original KenzoAmour is warm and sexy but Kenzo changed it up a little bit. KenzoAmour Florale was introduced with notes of neroli, grapefruit and black currant providing the burst of freshness we were looking for.

Is it the gorgeous bottle or the gorgeous perfume? Well, it’s actually both. Marc Jacobs Lola is a warm floral that Laurie instantly fell in love with at first glance and sniff.

We love Philosophy’s State of Grace perfumes and we loved seeing them add a new perfume to their line of fragrances. Philosophy Unconditional Love is a great addition to their fragrances. If you ask us, the fruitiness in Unconditional Love is just what they needed in their line up.

So that’s it! I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing our favorite beauty products from 2009. We’ll be back next year with more of our favorites. ;) We’re excited by all the new collections we’re seeing so 2010 looks like it will be a great year. What have been some of your favorite products this year? We want to hear all about it in the comments.

Summer Scent: KenzoAmour Florale

About a month ago I was in search of a light, fresh summer fragrance. I ended up picking up a scent that shall remain nameless. While it had some of the notes I was looking for, unfortunately its lasting power left A LOT to be desired. Now with just over a month left to our summer, I finally got to try Kenzo’s KenzoAmour Florale. I should have known my beloved Kenzo would have something that hit the spot.

kenzoamour-florale KenzoAmour Florale opens with top notes of neroli, grapefruit, black currant and cardamom to sharply contrast the original KenzoAmour. The neroli, grapefruit and black currant are prominant in the opening as to be expected but the cardamom is there to tone down the initial sweetness just a bit. It’s not long before you’re into the heart of scent with its floral with notes of frangipani, rose and gardenia. The frangipani in this scent commands yours attention as the base of white musk and cedar start coming into play.

Overall, KenzoAmour Florale is right up my alley for a summer scent. The citrus notes give it some freshness while the spice and woody notes give it some edge to prevent it from becoming sickeningly sweet or overly floral. If the original KenzoAmour was a little too warm for you, I think you’ll find this new floral version is just right. My only regret is not trying this sooner! :)

Have you tried this perfume? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

Kenzo's KenzoAmour Le Parfum

Even though we’re now into spring, it doesn’t mean you have to put your warmer scents away… besides, there’s still a little chill in the air in some places. :)

kenzo-kenzoamour-le-parfum That’s where Kenzo’s KenzoAmour Le Parfum comes in. You may be thinking… “Hmm, that looks just like that other Kenzo perfume!” Yeah, it does but this one is different. While the bottle’s shape remains the same, it’s color is inspired by temples in SE Asia and features ingredients coveted in the region.  This version is richer and spicier than the previous version making it a great woody oriental fragrance.

I found the incense and patchouili notes to be more prominent here. This makes the original seem much sweeter and powdery than this newer version in comparison. I use to think that the original was as warm as I wanted to go but now I know I can go warmer. :)

Kenzo’s KenzoAmour Le Parfum still shares some of the same notes as the original such as the rice steam top note, frangipani flower middle note and vanilla base note. It also adds some new notes to the mix such as a top note of incense, amber and patchouli to the middle and benzoin balm as a base.

If you’re looking for a fragrance that’s warmer and a little more intense, give this one a try. For me, my favorite Kenzo fragrances are florals but I’m to have tried this one, it’s gotten me out of my perfume rut.

We’ll be back with more on Kenzo’s new fragrances next week!

Mon Amour

I have yet to smell a Kenzo fragrance that I don’t like. KenzoParfumD’Ete? Adore it, it brings back fond memories. FlowerByKenzo? Love it… it’s a scent I started wearing a lot going into spring and now summer. It’s not surprising to me that I would like KenzoAmour as well. I think anyone that is a fan of Kenzo’s scents will like this as well.

KenzoAmour I like to think of this as a “come hither” fragrance, the kind that is alluring and sexy. I’ve received a few compliments when wearing this scent on a night out. It’s a woody oriental scent with notes of frangipani, cherry blossoms, wood, incense, vanilla and white tea. I find that it’s a little overpowering at first but as it dries, it begins to fade and settle down into a vanilla and white tea mix (thank you Aromascope for that hint) that will remain lingering on the skin for hours.

This is also an award winning fragrance. It won 2 awards from the Fragrance Foundation. One for Women’s Nouveay Niche Fragrance of the Year and Best Packaging Women’s Prestige. These are well deserved awards in my opinion. The bottles are simply gorgeous and it doesn’t hurt that this adds from real style to my vanity.

Flowers in the Summertime

FlowerbyKenzo Perfume KenzoParfumD’Ete is one of my favorite perfumes but for some reason, I had not given any of Kenzo’s other perfumes a try until now. I wish I had a good reason to explain this ignorance on my part, but I do not. FlowerbyKenzo is Kenzo’s best selling perfume and with good reason. Now Kenzo is releasing a special limited edition of this scent in May and it will sell exclusively at Sephora.

This limited edition version of FlowerbyKenzo is alcohol free and features notes of wild hawthorne, Bulgarian rose, Parma violet, cassia, hedione, cyclosal, opoponax, white musk and vanilla. It may be hard to imagine what all of these notes together may smell like but I am reminded of Nivea when wear it. It’s a very fresh, powdery floral scent and it’s perfect for the summertime. When I move and smell the perfume on myself, I can’t help but love how I smell. A good perfume can lift even the dreariest of moods. I know now that it was very foolish of me to not try the other scents in Kenzo’s line. I think KenzoAmour may be next.

Invigorating Exfoliating Flakes

Kenzo may be known for perfume but the skincare line is really interesting as well. This morning I woke up with these huge, swollen eyes. A dab of Ice-Cold Eye Cream brought them down in a hurry but that’s not my favorite product that I have tested so far.

Kenzo Invigorating Exfoliating Flakes I love products that let the consumer decide how it will be used and Kenzo’s Invigorating Exfoliating Flakes does just that. It’s exfoliating flakes that you can use with water to form a paste or with your favorite cleanser. I tried this product both ways and I prefer working it into a paste. The scent of this product, as with the rest of the line, is based on the ginger flower and it has a very calming affect on me. The flakes are in powder form and are very soft and fine to the touch. It’s not until you mix the product with water that you feel how exfoliating the flakes really are. They are strong enough to exfoliate your skin but they are not too harsh or sharp on the skin. What I like most about this product is the key ingredients it uses. White nettle extract is used to tone the skin and kaolin powder, a white clay, is used to soften and mattify the skin. It’s not often that you find an exfoliating product that helps reduce shine.

We’ll have more on other Kenzo products later on this week!
