This new Josie Maran Argan Beautiful Lips Collection just popped up in my email today just when I needed ideas for Mother’s Day.
This set is available online only and retails for $42. It includes 2 Magic Marker Lip Stains with Argan Color Sticks in Waltz and Quickstep (1 of 3 new shades Josie Maran has introduced to her line), 3 Argan Natural Volume Lip Glosses in Optimism, Precious, Voluptuous and 1 mini vial of Argan Oil.
I don’t know why but I am a sucker for Josie Maran’s sets, I just am. What is curious to me is the packaging for the stains with the color stick, it is exactly the same as Smashbox’s new lip stains. Are these just plain old tinted lip balms or smaller versions of the Argan Color Sticks from Josie’s line that has been doing so well. I hope it’s the Color Sticks.
I’ve met my match! It’s Josie Maran’s Argan Serum Matchmaker Foundation. I’ve been using this in Light-Medium, and I’m kind of in love. Before I tried it I was filled with all sorts of fears. Would it be a match, would it look OK and then give me orange face mid-day or would it break me out? Those turned out to be irrational fears, because this foundation is a rock-star performer.
For experimentation purposes, I tried this with no primer and no setting or finishing powder. And you know what? It held up all day and actually stayed semi-matte — and incredibly natural. I thought it was a fluke, so I tested it the same way for a week and each day the results were the same.
Doing its matchmaking thing…
So why mess with a good thing, right? When I use this foundation, I don’t prime or set and I love it. I think it’s a great winter foundation too because it is very moisturizing. A few things to note if you’re interested in giving this a go as well:
- If you are extremely fair-skinned with pink undertones, you may have some troubles. I’m pretty neutral with some yellow, so the Light-Medium is a perfect match for me.
- If at first you try and don’t succeed, give it a few minutes. I noticed that when I put this on, the color is still adjusting. Within five minutes it looks like skin, but it does take a few minutes to get a perfect match.
- Apply this with a brush, preferably a flat foundation one. It gets a little messy with the hands and a sponge is too absorbent and you’d waste product. I use a few pumps on the back of my hand and go from there.
While I do think this is great for the dry winter we’re still going though, I have a feeling that its smart enough to adjust to my skin’s needs come June. I love when foundations do the thinking for me.
Yesterday, one of my coworkers asked me for a solution to help heal dry winter hair. As you can see, she has the best hair — long, wavy and blonde. From my perspective, every day is a good hair day for her. But for those who have dry hair to begin with, like my coworker, winter can be so tough on the locks.
She does all the right things — washes infrequently, uses a deep conditioner regularly and always applies heat protectants before styling. But even this regimen isn’t able to do the trick as it would in the summer.
I thought I’d put together a list of products that work great for me, but also invite everyone reading to give some recommendations. I am able to combat dry hair fairly easily because it’s not something I suffer from. But I know that I am in the minority.
Here’s what works for me, but please — pile on in the comments!
I’ve been really happy this winter using Phyto Phytolactum + Intelligent Shampoo. It’s designed to purify and gently cleanse dry hair without stripping. I like it because it’s also good for those who wash their hair frequently. It smells amazingly of almond, which is because it contains 35% hydrating almond milk. For my coworker, I’d probably recommend looking into other Phyto shampoos, specifically ones for color-treated hair.
A leave-in conditioner goes a long way to infusing moisture and also preventing static. I love Living Proof’s Leave-In Conditioner. It is intensely hydrating and does so without weighing down the hair. When I use this, I always seem to have a better hair day.
For hydration and shine, I’m all about the oils: Oscar Blandi Jasmine Oil Serum and Josie Maran Argan Oil. I first tried Oscar Blandi’s in the January Birchbox and it is a fast favorite. It smells like heaven and helps smooth my ‘do. I like using a few drops of Josie’s Argan Oil on the ends of my hair to moisturize them. I don’t trim my hair often and I’m convinced these oils help keep my ends from splitting.
These are the products that work great for me, but please help my coworker out by letting us in your dry hair saviors! Thanks in advance.
Skincare, above all things, is probably our number one beauty priority. Can’t build a house without a good foundation right? There were a few items that really stood out to us in 2010 — for their innovation, hydration, simplicity and ability to make our skin feel, and look, fabulous. Here’s what we loved this past year.
Josie Maran Argan Primer Mist – I cannot get enough of all things Argan, thanks to Josie Maran – her Argan Primer Mist included. This can be used as a primer, it’s so hydrating and really helps prepare the skin for layers of makeup, but I think it’s even better used as a refresher mid-day or on clean skin. I’ve recommended this product to pretty much every woman I know.
Boscia Black Luminizing Mask – This mask by Boscia is the ultimate de-gunker. It sucks everything out of your pores and minimizes them in the process, and really does give a luminizing effect to the skin. Carla and I were both quite impressed. I used it twice weekly in the summer, but now that it’s winter I find I use it once every 7-10 days. I’m addicted!
Clarisonic Opal – Speaking of addiction…the Clarisonic Opal. This is a fantastic innovation, and it works. Admittedly, I don’t have serious undereye wrinkles but even I notice a perk in the skin around my eyes.
Kate Somerville CytoCell Dermal Energizing Treatment – Carla and her CytcoCell became best friends this year. It tamed the dry patches, helps control excess oil and helped reduce overall redness in a light weight and emollient formula… LOVE!! You can read more about Kate Somerville products at Dermreview.com.
Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Facial Wipes – These are a budget beauty steal! In terms of facial wipes, these may be the most soothing I’ve ever used. They are what they promise to be. I also really enjoy the cucumber scent. It’s like a spa at home.
What skincare items made your list of favorites for 2010?
You may have noticed that we’re big Josie Maran fans around here, Laurie in particular… You’ve heard about Argan Oil already but what Josie’s customers have really been wanting (at least that is what I hear from her when she’s on QVC) is a big super-sized bottle of this miracble oil. Now it’s finally here!
Before this hits Sephora, pick up a 4oz. bottle of Josie Maran Argan Oil now on QVC. It’s at a featured price of $83.76 and on 2 Easy Pay payments. Act quickly because his price expires after tomorrow at midnight and don’t forget to watch Josie on the air tomorrow. I love hearing her tell the story about meeting the woman who introduced her to Argan Oil… Argan Oil!
Happy Halloween everyone! This is a favorite holiday of ours — it epitomizes fall, the best time of the year, and there’s candy and trick or treaters. I also like to dress my dog up, which on any other day makes me seem like a crazy dog lady but is totally normal on Halloween. All month long, I’ve been looking forward to this day. Pumpkins, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin seeds and caramel apples. I love a good caramel apple! So much so that apple is the Product Girl Flavor of the Month for October. Here’s a few products we’ve been loving.
- Philosophy Bobbing for Apples Set – If you are an apple lover, this is where it’s at. Each scent — Green, Red and Caramel Apple — are spot on for the real thing. I literally take a bubble bath almost every night (I know, I’m practically asking for dry skin) and have been loving this trio. It’s a great deal too at $25.
- Slatkin & Co. Autumn Apple Candle – What’s a bubble bath like without candles? Obviously, I need to set the mood for relaxation! These Slatkin & Co. candles are my favorite because they burn evenly and smell heavenly.
- Garnier Moisture Rescue Fresh Cleansing Foam – This cleanser, which contains apple water extract, is a fast favorite for me. I love foaming cleansers but they can be drying sometimes — this isn’t, at all. Plus, for $6 you get an extraordinary amount of product and a very deep clean. And using it with the Clarisonic feels amazing!
- GO SMiLE Green Apple Toothpaste – Do you ever stray from the traditional mint toothpaste? Well, you should. Carla’s been testing GO SMiLE’s Green Apple version and is enjoying the crisp apple flavor. It’s like a surprise when you brush your teeth!
- Tarte Smooth Operator Tinted Moisturizer – Tarte’s Smooth Operator is my kind of tinted moisturizer. It’s a bit thicker but still lightweight and is incredibly moisturizing. I often bust this out once the weather turns cold because it helps soothe my skin from wind and elements. That’s the apple extract doing its job!
- Josie Maran Argan Lip Treatment – You all know how much I love Josie Maran’s Argan Oil — well I love this too! It’s got natural green apple flavors and it actually treats your lips. It’s perfect for overnight so you wake up with soft, lush lips!
There’s our apple picks — any of your own to share?
Josie Maran assembled her argan favorites – including a few new, yet-to-be released products – and bundled them up in her newest gift set at Sephora, the Love Nest. Since I got hooked on Josie’s famed Argan Oil earlier this year, I have been eagerly trying more of her line. This set included two new products unavailable elsewhere: Argan Color Stick and the Argan Illuminizer.
I swatched the Argan Illuminizer heavy for show, but it blends down to a very sheer, warm gold. It’s a thicker consistency and is very moisturizing. It’s a very versatile product — mixed in with foundation, over makeup or my preferred way, a small dab mixed in with moisturizer under makeup. The Argan Color Stick has a bit of a minty smell and imparts a rosy pink glow.
This is a great set — for $25, you more that get your money’s worth. It’s sold out online (for now), but I spotted this at my Sephora in-store so you may be in luck if this one’s for you.
I’ve been holding out on you guys. For the past few months, I’ve been using several of Josie Maran Cosmetics Argan Oil products and I’m completely in love. I started with Josie’s Argan Oil to Go because I didn’t want to commit to a full bottle if it reacted poorly with my skin. Which it didn’t. In fact, my skin has never looked better. I began using it as my night moisturizer and I wake up in the morning with hydrated, glowing skin. And let me tell you – I have an incredibly uneven skin tone and hardly ever go anywhere bare faced. This product has changed that for me. It also heals dry patches (which I get on my nose), zaps zits (somehow, it does!) and never feels oily or greasy on the face. It must be magic.
After the success with the Argan Oil itself, I decided to pick up the Argan Primer Mist and the Argan Protect SPF 40+ Natural Daily Sun Protection. I was skeptical with the Primer Mist – would it truly help control oil and keep my makeup looking fresh? Charleston Girl from Best Things in Beauty assured me that it was worth a try and that it provided amazing hydration. She was spot on. It is so hydrating, primes the skin and absolutely keeps the face looking fresh. Plus, it’s a workhorse! It’s infused with stem cells harvested from sea fennel that help repair and reverse sun damage, stimulate new cell growth and improve skin tone. At this point, I’m having a love-fest with Josie Maran Cosmetics.
The Argan SPF 40+ did not disappoint either. It’s got all the benefits of Argan Oil and provides broad spectrum protection. It’s got a slight smell to it – can’t quite put my finger on it – but fades immediately upon application. It’s not an offensive smell in the least, just a smell. Fruity, sweet? Somewhere in that realm. This absorbs into skin beautifully and leaves no sticky residue. I would recommend this for everyone, but especially those looking for a more natural sunscreen.
I apologize for holding back on my love for Josie Maran’s Argan Oil products. They are so amazing, and completely worth trying. The Argan Oil to Go is only $14 – so it’s not a huge risk if it doesn’t turn out. Plus, you can slather it on the ends of your hair on on your cuticles if you prefer.
Has anyone else been introduced to this magical product? Share the love in the comments! (Or the lack there of…which would honestly surprise me)

Quite possibly, the most beautiful face behind a cosmetics line that I’ve ever seen, Josie Maran is celebrating the launch of her line of cosmetics in 25 select Sephora stores throughout the nation.
“Luxury With a Conscience” perfectly describes brand – with sleek, metallic pink bio-degradable packaging, natural ingredients, and fabulous quality products, this line is bound for success. I raved about my experience with Josie Maran Finger Paints and Eyeliner, I highly urge you to head to your nearest Sephora to at least check out this gorgeous Wildflower Powder Palette – it’s begging to be played with!
