Garnier Sleek & Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment

Argan Oil is pretty much the best thing that has ever happened to my hair, a few drops of it before blow-drying makes a world of difference in the look and feel of my hair. What is not the best thing ever is the price tag associated with that little brown bottle. Now you can trade in that bottle for a new amber colored bottle, Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment, that does everything the other oil does but for a fraction of the price.

Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment will be your hair’s new best friend. There’s so many ways to use this oil and it works on all hair types. You can use it in the shower; just take a few drops and add it to your conditioner for an extra boost. Use it on wet hair like I do, hair will be softer and more manageable. Or use it dry, a drop is all you need to smooth away frizz and add some shine at the same time.

If you have not tried the wonder that is Argan Oil, the best thing about it is that it doesn’t leave your hair feeling greasy, it leaves no residue behind. I don’t know about you but I like my hair feeling soft and smooth without being weighed down. This does the job and does it for only $5.99 for a bottle. It’s a small price to pay for de-frizzified hair, right?

Products on a Pedestal for January 2012

It’s a new year and us gals here at Product Girl decided to introduce a new monthly feature dishing on our favorite products from makeup, skin care, hair, and anything in between. We call it “Products on a Pedestal.”  If you’re like me and love hearing people’s favs, check in at the end of every month to get the scoop. I’m kicking off the first edition!

To start, my favorite blush.  Is it possible to talk too much about a single product?  Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes are just so good! We’ve yet really talk about the color Exposed, though. It’s such a unique tan, plum color. My everyday, perfect blush.

A new obsession for me is highlighters (following in the footsteps of my sister and Laurie!) Current favorite? TheBalm’s Mary-Lou Manizer, such a cute name! The champagne shimmer is suitable for cheeks and eyes.

Now, since it is winter, had to mention my moisturizer. I’ve been using Benefit Total Moisture Facial Cream and let me tell you, ahh-mazing!! It smells incredible, doesn’t feel greasy and makes my skin so soft. It also isn’t too much for my oilier skin.

Mascaras are an obsession of mine, so I had to include one. I’ve been head over heels for the Tarte Gifted Mascara. That’s exactly what it is, gifted. Does it all – lengthening, separation and volume in just one coat. Hardly any mascaras are up to my liking with one coat! Clump and flake free, this is something to talk about.

Undereye circles are something pretty much every woman faces at some point. As a teenager up late at night studying and chatting with friends, waking up in the morning is not my favorite thing. But when I need a pick me up, I reach for my Garnier Skin Renew Anti Dark Circle Roller. Roll on a bit, blend, and I’m instantly (looking) more awake with laser sight!

Best of 2010: Our Favorite Hair Products

As a couple of ladies with super straight hair, and lots of it, what we really want is some lift. And of course, healthy locks. In 2010, it was all about the quest for big hair. And as the saying goes, it’s a journey, not a destination. The quest continues, but there were a few standouts in 2010 that I’m happy to welcome to my haircare arsenal. Here’s our picks for best of hair, 2010.

Living Proof  Full Root Lifting Spray – Ooh nelly. Promises, promises with this styling spray to bring your roots to new heights. This is an interesting product, and yes, it works very well. It’s a bit sticky when you spray and due to the blend of resins in the formula, you can feel the hair thickening immediately. But once you blow-dry or style, it smooths out and lifts your hair from the root. .

Hair Bungees – As I grow my hair out, I become more and more reliant on throwing it back in a ponytail of some sort throughout the day.  But with the wonderous Hair Bungees, I don’t get any creasing in my hair. These are really cool — you literally just bungee them in your hair and secure as tightly as you need depending on the thickness of your hair. I even did a tutorial to show you what I mean!

Garnier Triple Nutrition Nutrient Spray – This started as a summer must-have, but now it’s just a must-have. It contains olive, avocado and shea oils and infuses your hair with an insane amount of moisture…weightlessly. It’s a budget beauty steal at less than $5 too.

Living Proof Full Thickening Cream – This was the second stop in the quest for big hair, and like the Root Lifting Spray, this product works wonders also. A few dabs blended into your hair about mid-blow dry, and the end result is truly thicker hair. Both of us have a lot of hair, but the individual strands are fine, so this really pumps up the volume.

Let us know your hair faves of 2010!

Flavor of the Month: Apple

Happy Halloween everyone! This is a favorite holiday of ours — it epitomizes fall, the best time of the year, and there’s candy and trick or treaters. I also like to dress my dog up, which on any other day makes me seem like a crazy dog lady but is totally normal on Halloween. All month long, I’ve been looking forward to this day. Pumpkins, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin seeds and caramel apples. I love a good caramel apple! So much so that apple is the Product Girl Flavor of the Month for October. Here’s a few products we’ve been loving.

  • Philosophy Bobbing for Apples Set – If you are an apple lover, this is where it’s at. Each scent — Green, Red and Caramel Apple — are spot on for the real thing. I literally take a bubble bath almost every night (I know, I’m practically asking for dry skin) and have been loving this trio. It’s a great deal too at $25.
  • Slatkin & Co. Autumn Apple Candle – What’s a bubble bath like without candles? Obviously, I need to set the mood for relaxation! These Slatkin & Co. candles are my favorite because they burn evenly and smell heavenly.
  • Garnier Moisture Rescue Fresh Cleansing Foam – This cleanser, which contains apple water extract, is a fast favorite for me. I love foaming cleansers but they can be drying sometimes — this isn’t, at all. Plus, for $6 you get an extraordinary amount of product and a very deep clean. And using it with the Clarisonic feels amazing!
  • GO SMiLE Green Apple Toothpaste – Do you ever stray from the traditional mint toothpaste? Well, you should. Carla’s been testing GO SMiLE’s Green Apple version and is enjoying the crisp apple flavor. It’s like a surprise when you brush your teeth!
  • Tarte Smooth Operator Tinted Moisturizer Tarte’s Smooth Operator is my kind of tinted moisturizer. It’s a bit thicker but still lightweight and is incredibly moisturizing. I often bust this out once the weather turns cold because it helps soothe my skin from wind and elements. That’s the apple extract doing its job!
  • Josie Maran Argan Lip Treatment – You all know how much I love Josie Maran’s Argan Oil — well I love this too! It’s got natural green apple flavors and it actually treats your lips. It’s perfect for overnight so you wake up with soft, lush lips!

There’s our apple picks — any of your own to share?

A Day at the Beach, Product Girl Style

If there’s one thing I am determined to do over the 4th of July weekend it is to get some sun. I’ll be visiting my parents in Wisconsin, and I plan on going to the beach. Naturally, this involves lots of sunscreen. Both Carla and I are in the pale category, and while I don’t burn easily, I am careful to protect my skin. I’m actually still affected from that one time in college I went snowboarding in California and got the worst sunburn of my life on my face. My nose has never been the same. Seriously. My nose could get sunburnt from my office lamp.

So in addition to the SPF, here’s a day at the beach, Product Girl style.

When I know I’m going to be swimming or be active at the beach, I purposefully don’t wear much makeup. But I still need something to help even out my skin tone. Urban Decay Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer is perfect to apply over my sunscreen. It has SPF 20,  but I recommend more if you’re exposed to the sun (of course!) It’s light coverage and gives me that feeling of being polished without really wearing makeup.

My face is shielded from the sun 99.9 percent of the time, so it’s not exactly bursting with color. Normally I would just go without bronzer, but Tarte Cosmetics introduced my favorite bronzer, Park Ave Princess, in a matte, waterproof version. And it truly is waterproof – check out Gouldylox’s Review for proof. Score! Now I can be visibly bronzed while secretly pale underneath at the beach.

I don’t have freckles on my face or body, but I have several lip freckles and they drive me totally nuts. The sun tends to make them darker so I usually layer all sorts of balms on them. But Bobbi Brown Treatment Lip Shine SPF 15 is a fresh alternative! It imparts color (quite a bit!), shine and sun protection. They’re lovely.

I’ve been using Garnier’s Triple Nutrition Nutrient Spray for about a few weeks now and I’m obsessed! It’s a blend of olive, avocado and shea oils and can be used on dry or damp hair. It’s truly weightless and I can really tell the difference when I use it. I use it about halfway through my blow dry in the morning and my hair feels so silky the rest of the day. It’s perfect for the beach to help combat dryness.

I usually carry around a small soft cooler with me to keep my beverages cold. And this time, I’ll also be storing my Bath & Body Works Cooling Mist in Deep Aqua. It is so refreshing, especially when its ice cold. It contains aloe and is an overall great blast of hydration. Plus, it smells fantastic and let’s be honest, sweat happens at the beach.

So those are the products I’m toting around for a day at the beach. What about you, any must-haves? Let us know! And we also wish you a safe and happy 4th of July holiday!

New! Garnier Skin Renew Brusher Gel-Cleanser

It’s pretty clear that the success of the Clarisonic is starting to trickle down into the minds of product engineers and marketers as they develop the next generation of cleansers. While there are various tools and exfoliating brushes out there, we’re starting to see an influx of the brush affixed to the cleanser itself. I’m all for this – especially if the products live up!

Garnier’s latest launch, The Brusher Gel Cleanser, combines a non-drying gel cleanser with a flexible soft brush to exfoliate skin and promote cell renewal. It includes Vitamin B5 to moisturize skin and prevent that drying feeling, antioxidant Vitamin E to detoxify skin and Green Leaf Extract to soothe skin. I bought this a few weeks ago and have been using it since. The verdict so far? I’m digging it.

The pros: it isn’t drying in the least and the brush is gentle enough to use every day. Plus, there’s a little twist to the tube so that after you’ve pushed the cleanser onto the brush you can close it so water doesn’t get in there. I use this after removing my makeup with NARS Cleansing Oil and it does a fab job of cleaning off the day. The cons: it’s a little clunky to use because the brush is affixed to the bottle. So I’m cleansing my face and toting around a heavy bottle at the same time. Can be a little cumbersome.

I’m liking this product and recommend giving it a try if this type of product appeals to you. For me, the pros outweigh the cons. I picked it up for about $7 at my local CVS.

Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Skin, Nails & Hair Care

Our favorite beauty products of the year continues with our favorites in skincare, nails and haircare. Are some of our picks the same as yours? Keep reading…

Without a doubt Elizabeth Arden Prevage Moisturizer has been Carla’s favorite moisturizer of the year, she can’t sing its praises enough. It’s definitely pricey but the texture makes it last forever and it tames her skin like nothing else… she is hooked.

This year we got to know Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser and our lashes were grateful for the introduction. This product not only removes mascara better than most makeup removers but also conditions lashes at the same time.

Sampar Skin Quenching Mist is as good as it gets if you’re obsessed with refreshing your skin with mists like we are. Not only does it have a devine rose scent to it but you can spray on as much as you’d like, no greasy residue left on your skin with this.

Suki Lemongrass Cleanser is another goodie from 2008 that we brought with us into 2009. You can use it as an extremely effective exfoliator or let it foam up for gentler way to clean your skin. Plus the lemongrass will definitely perk you up.

Garnier’s Nutri-Pure Detoxifying Wet Cleansing Towelettes are our top pick for cleansing wipes. These refreshing oil-free wipes have a clean fruity scent and do not dry out your skin if you’re having a “lazy” day and is the only thing you use to wash your face at night. Not that we do that or anything…

Thank you MAC for Style Black and the MAC Volcanic Ash Thermal Mask. It makes our skin so soft after just one use and there is something incredibly therapeutic about slathering sooty black ash all over your skin and rinsing it off with a hint of heat. Love!

Four months under our belt of using NARS Cleansing Oil and it’s still rocking our world. And the best part is the bottle isn’t even a quarter of the way empty!

Duri Rejuvacoat has saved my nails this year. This base coat not only helps strengthen nails (boy does it ever!) but has actually improved how my some of my nails grew. Some of the odd bends I have in my nails actually straightened out a bit.

Since I’m all about nail care this year (hello fellow ex-nail bitters!), It Cosmetics Nail Love has been in my handbag at all times. Why hasn’t anyone though of this before? This nail pen includes oil to condition nails but also has a rubber slanted tip to help push your cuticles back. Convenient, no?

For color, the Barielle All Lacquered Up collection has been my favorite from this year. My friend Michelle from All Lacquered Up helped create a collection of shades that I am absolutely in love with and I turn to them over and over again… I’m talking to you Glammed Out Garnet and Get Mauving.

It all starts with the nail polish remover and Zoya Remove + Nail Polish Remover is my favorite nail polish remover of all time. The delivery method is fantastic, formula is not toxic, conditions the nails and I’m all for a product that helps calm me and steady my hands before applying nail polish. The lavender scent does just that.

We were really excited when we started seeing forest greens step on to the Fall trend scene, which is why we fell hard for OPI’s Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow from the Espana collection. So deep and sultry, even if it did take nearly three coats to get it just right.

When my hair needs refreshing, Ojon Revitalizing Mist takes care of my hair with just a few spritzes. This product is also a leave in conditioner. If I don’t have time for my usual routine, this detangles and leaves hair soft. I hope Sephora brings this back as a Beauty Insider deluxe sample, the small bottles are perfect for travel and I lost mine.

Frederic Fekkai’s Advanced Full Blown Volume Shampoo shampoo gets us excited, ala old school Herbal Essence commercials-style. The smell is refreshing with a hint of lime and gives LIFE to fine hair. The effect is really noticeable when blow drying with a big round brush.

If we could bathe in MoroccanOil products, we totally would… it conditions hair like nothing we have ever used. It is safe to say that MoroccanOil Treatment has completely rocked our world. It conditions, protects against heat, adds shine and tames flyaways. What more could we ask for?

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo isn’t exactly new but it is new to us this year. This product has saved my life in the morning (when I’m running late!) countless times this year and it is the only dry shampoo I keep re-purchasing. Why is that? It is gentle and does not irritate my scalp like other dry shampoos do.

So what about you? What are your favorite skincare, nails and hair products new to you this year?
