I’m still enjoying what is left of summer; colorful nails, bronzed skin and easy braided hair, but I can’t help but want dive head first into fall’s new beauty. This week my nails are an example of that, I’m rocking Essie’s Cashmere Bathrobe from the Fall 2013 collection.
Most of the collection is a pass for me but Cashmere Bathrobe caught my eye simply because I didn’t already have a shade like this in my nail vault. I have plenty of greys but I don’t have one light this. This is a dark grey creme with a light shimmer that doesn’t immediately detract away from the dark richness of the grey. The formula is good, a nice consistency that levels out and plenty of coverage in just one coat…even though I have two on.
So what’s on your nails this week? Still loving those summer shades or are you transitioning into fall?
I’ve been making an effort lately, a full face of make up every day and changing up my nails every couple of days. You would think this would be easy for a beauty blogger but sometimes, you just want to go au natural. Since I’ve worn 4 different shades of nail polish during the last week, it is safe to say that this is not one of those times. 🙂
This week my pick was Essie’s Madison Ave-hue, from their new spring collection. I’ll admit that Essie has bored me to tears with their recent collections but they are taking a new direction now and it started with the long overdue addition of magnetic shades and nail strips. While I scooped up both releases, actual shades from a seasonal collection left me wanting more until now. I couldn’t resist this bright pink with micro glitter!
It’s time for a beauty year in review. Trust us, picking just 10 favorites for an entire year was no easy feat. We discovered a plethora of new brands and fell in love with so much. These 10 favorites are the products we use constantly. The ones that really stand out and we would buy over and over again!
BECCA Bolero Mineral Blush is a flattering terracotta shade that doubles as a bronzer. It’s my perfect cheek.
This bright cobalt Essie Butler Please nail polish is stunning and a newer discovery! I’m confident I will wear this constantly in 2013.
Every morning starts with a cup of coffee and One Love Organics Morning Glory serum. It contains a ton of antioxidant power and perk-up ingredients like peppermint oil.
Highlighters are a Product Girl’s best friend and we are partial to the pale bronzy gold Benefit Sun Beam.
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pad for Body just make everything look and feel tighter and naturally tanned. Like an Rx for the Vitamin D deficient.
Hands down, my favorite shadow of 2012: NARS Vent Glace Duo Eyeshadow
Still mystified by the brightening powers of Bare Escentuals Well Rested Face & Eye Brightener.
Melvita Orange Blossom Extraordinary Water brings me to a happy place and is always step one in my skin care routine, day and night.
The perfect top knot achieved with Sarah Potempa The Wrap-Up. And low bun, messy undone bun, etc. It does it all and perfectly.
NARS Mexican Rose Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil is the longest wearing lip product I’ve ever worn (and it’s not technically a stain!) I always have a good day when wearing this gorgeous bright pink.

Kicking off Thanksgiving week is a little sparkle on sequin action. I opted for the most festive polish of the season in honor of Thanksgiving this week. It is my favorite holiday, after all. Essie Leading Lady, from the Winter 2012 collection, is loaded with ruby red sparkles in a jelly finish. It’s truly perfect. Two coats are enough, but for more sparkle we’d order up a third. I think it will go great with the stretchy pants I plan to wear all day on Thanksgiving. For those that actually dress up, I applaud you. I have a mission to eat a lot of stuffing, and I find that leggings are the most forgiving for this important task! But, I did start my week off by wearing this fabulous sequin top from Loft. Isn’t it fabulous?
What are you wearing on your nails this week?
My nails have crossed on over to the bright side this week with the obsession-worthy Essie Butler Please. This snazzy cobalt blue is just everything right now. It looks so sharps on nails and is one of those colors I see wearing the heck out of from now until next summer. Butler Please even inspired this purchase from Ann Taylor Loft yesterday. This shade is a pop of bright in an otherwise dynamic and exciting Essie Winter Collection.
And for you second dose of must-have, have you seen the Essie + Bauble Bar collab?
Nail polish is the ultimate accessory, so this collab is perfect! Pick your Essie winter polish and its accompanying bangle, then pick two more bracelets and the whole bundle will be delivered to you in a cute carrying case. Check it our here!
After many months of neon and brights, we think we might have hit that point where we start craving deeper colors. But we’re not quite ready for the burgundys and navys, rather, so instead we’re turning to our favorite tried and true neutrals. Essie Lion Around is one of my favorite neutrals. It’s a subdued peachy pink that has just enough sheen to make it interesting. I haven’t worn this since around this time last year (see our review of 2011 Essie Resort) and now I remember why I loved it so much. It’s a perfect complement to just about everything you wear — body and face.
And our favorite part of August has begun — September issues! We flew through Lucky already and are excited to check out Glamour and Posh next.
What polish are you rolling with this week?
As we head towards the end of the summer, my mind always starts daydreaming towards changing leaves, crisp air and warm colors. And while I’ve loved this summer’s nail styles full of neons, holos and nudes, I am super excited about Essie’s upcoming fall collection Stylenomics!
Here are the shades included in the collection: Continue reading
Happy Independence Day! Enjoy the fireworks, barbecues and festivities that help make the 4th of July so amazing! We leave you with our red, white and blue beauty picks.
ILIA Lipstick in Wild Child, this line of organic lipsticks is cause for celebration.
Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr eyeshadow in Too Cool, the perfect shimmery white base to help your brights be even brighter.
Essie Bikini So Teeny, THE nail polish of summer. I love this cornflower blue that is just bright enough to satisfy a neon craving.
We could spend hours on Pinterest looking at nail art. There is so much cool stuff out there. We dabble here and there with layering glitters and creating a “party” nail (ring finger) but artists we are not. Then I came across this guest post on the Birchbox blog from Glitter, She Wrote about the secret weapon of nail art and felt compelled to create. The secret? SCOTCH TAPE! So simple I almost smacked myself. Before you click on over to Anna at Glitter, She Wrote, and see brilliant nail art, let’s talk about my ONE nail I’m showing you. It was the best one, so I took the liberty of sparing you the others. Although, I have every intention of sporting the imperfect mani all week. It does look pretty good from afar…
Using tape as a nail art tool is best on second day polish. I painted the bright watermelon Deborah Lippman Daytripper on Saturday and on Sunday, blocked off tape so that I could paint my tips (French manicure style) with Essie Mint Candy Apple. I chose to paint just a thin strip, but the options with tape are truly endless. I could do a grid, vertical or horizantal halves or zig zags. I had a few challenges removing the tape and it was a little uneven on a few nails even though the tape peeled off perfectly. I give myself a C+ for the final result but an A for effort! A little bit of tape is opening up a whole new world of manis for me. Will you give it a try?
TOMS teamed with Essie on this special polish, Barefoot in Blue, to raise awareness of One Day Without Shoes. That day is tomorrow, April 10, and its purpose is simple: show the impact a single pair of shoes can have on a child’s life by taking off our own. I follow TOMS on Facebook and signed up to receive Essie Barefoot in Blue and then it showed up about a month later in the mailbox. At first, I thought it was similar to Essie Smooth Sailing, but it’s shimmer-free and a lighter periwinkle. I love this shade, and it’s hard not to support the cause.
I love TOMS, and I bought my fanciest pair yet this weekend! The Rowan Wedge is exclusive to Neiman’s. The material is sturdier than the regular canvas and has a little shine, too. I am so excited to wear them — with shorts, skirts, jeans, everything!
