Super Bowl Nailgating with Cover Girl

Cover Girl Fanicure with Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Polish

In the city of Seattle and its surrounding areas, today is a very special day. Our beloved Seattle Seahawks are playing in Super Bowl 48, just now taking the field and the 12th Man, a.k.a. the fans, is standing behind our team in full force. I grew up in Seattle and I’ve never seen my city light up like this before and it has even made me, someone far from a football fanatic, get behind the team… and get decked out in Hawk gear from head to toe. You can’t help but get swept up in all this hometown pride!

One way I’ve been all about the Seahawks has been with my nails, I’ve been rocking a little navy blue, white, neon green and a hint a grey for a few weeks now. When Cover Girl invited me to #nailgate with them during the Super Bowl and create my own fanicure, I was completely on board. I played around with some Cover Girl Outlast Stay Brilliant nail polish shades to create some nail art and figure out what I was going to wear on game day today. Granted, my looks are not as amazing as Cover Girl’s look,

$10 or Less: Drugstore Beauty Steals

We love indulgent beauty splurges, but there’s nothing like the satisfaction of discovering a hidden gem at the drugstore. Here are our picks for what is a must at the drugstore right now, all for $10 or less.

CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara ($8) is the latest in the Lash Blast family, and I’m obsessed. I’ve recommended this to no fewer than 7 people in the last few days and all are loving it as I am. The claims of up to 30 strokes is true (Product Girl-verified) and the brush is almost like a lash comb in that it is impossible to clump. Major lengthening here, and no smudging or flaking. It’s so new it’s not online yet, but you should be able to find these at your local Walgreen’s.

L’Oreal Colour Riche Nail Colour in Haute Couture Red ($5.99) is that perfect vampy oxblood shade that is all the rage this season. L’Oreal’s formula is pretty stellar – no streaking, goopiness and it wears amazing all week. I’m on Day 5 with this shade and no chips or obvious tip wear.

Dove Purely Pampering Body Wash ($5) is a new addition to Dove’s endless offerings of body wash. I love the aroma of the Coconut Milk with Jasmine Petals, and even though it isn’t a natural body wash (which I prefer these days), it’s non-irritating and leaves my skin feeling clean and moisturized. Dove, I just will never be able to quit you!

Aveeno Pure Renewal Dry Shampoo ($7.99) smells amazing. It’s more of a “wet” dry shampoo, but doesn’t weigh down the hair and gives me the volume I seek from a no-wash ‘poo. Aveeno left out the sulfates and instead added seaweed extract.

Blistex Moisture Melt ($1.89) and Blistex Simple and Sensitive ($1.29) are the brand’s newest lip essentials. This is a brand I always associate with winter — my husband is addicted and like me, stashes a balm in every coat pocket. At under $2, you can afford to stash these all over the place at work and home. I love the Simple and Sensitive under lipsticks and the fact that it only has six ingredients.

And, bonus, team Blistex is giving three Product Girl readers the entire product line (yes, all of it!), which will obviously include a set of the new Moisture Melt and Simple and Sensitive products! Leave a comment on this post by Tuesday, November 13, and we’ll pick three winners at random.

Ten or Less: CoverGirl NatureLuxe Gloss Balm

It’s fair to say that 2011 is going down in the beauty books as the “year of the hybrid lipstick.” No longer is a tube of lipstick a tube of lipstick. Case in point: Chanel Rouge Coco Shine and the new Dior Addict Lipstick, two formulas that we absolutely love. But nothing beats the satisfaction of finding something of this nature for under $7, ala CoverGirl NatureLuxe Gloss Balm. They’re everything you think they’re not: sheer, moisturizing and an incredibly great bargain beauty buy!

L-R: Tulip, Sandstone, Coral, Hibiscus, Spice

The NatureLuxe Gloss Balms are like candy to me! Every time I go to Target, I seem to acquire a new one. I love the scent — it’s really subtle, but sort of sweet. The formula contains mango and shea butters, as well as SPF 15.

L-R: Tulip, Sandstone, Coral, Hibiscus, Spice

I’ve found a favorite in the Coral, but Hibiscus is a close runner up. The range of colors is pretty impressive, and try as you might, you won’t find one that doesn’t look good on. Trust me, I’m working on it! That’s the beauty of the sheer formula.

Beauty Bests and Spring Trends from Aveeno Ambassadors

You know what happens when you gather 25 beauty and lifestyle bloggers together for a weekend right? It’s a beauty product extravaganza, and a great learning experience. I for one, love to know what products others are obsessing over and even grilled the Aveeno brand and PR teams on their beauty must-haves.  Thought I’d share a few tidbits with you! There were some clear trends: Lots of lashes and bold lips.

When I arrived at the hotel (Shutters in Santa Monica — gorgeous!) and did a quick change in the lobby bathroom post-flight, pre-spa, I met Jodi from Multitasking Mommy. While I was using Tarte’s Park Avenue Princess bronzer to perk up my face, she was using items in her travel-friendly Trish McEvoy planner. It was at that moment I did a d’oh and put my palm on my forehead — I always forget to travel with my planner!

Nude nails are great for spring. We each got a mani/pedi during an afternoon of spa-ing, and many of us opted for the classic nude shade OPI’s Tickle My France-y. It’s a very chameleon shade depending on the light, and now I’m obsessed with it. I need my own bottle!

Lashes and bold lips, worn beautifully by Elizabeth from Beauty Bets and Romy from Romy Raves. They both have lash extensions, and now I’m fixated on getting them myself. Elizabeth did reveal that pre-extensions she was all about Buxom Lash Mascara. To add to the fabulosity, Romy even had hair feather extensions. You can see them in the photo, they are very cool.

All weekend long, Felicia of ThisThatBeauty sported the most amazing red lip, courtesy of Stila’s Long Wear Liquid Lip Color in Fiery. Check out her recap and see for yourself! Amber of Beauty Junkies Unite also wore an impressive pink lip on several occasions. Among the choices in her bag included a bright color from CoverGirl’s Lip Perfection Lipstick line. Amber was raving about the formula, along with the new CoverGirl Natureluxe Balms.

I also took the opportunity to chat with the Aveeno folks and find out what they most loved from the brand. I lost count with how many folks told me they loved the Skin Brightening Daily Scrub.  I shall add that to my Target shopping list! I also love talking with men about the products they use. The brand manager from Aveeno Baby and Sun Care revealed that he uses Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream as aftershave.

So the moral of this post is play up the lashes, don a bold lip and keep your nails neutral this spring. I’m on board!

Disclosure: Aveeno and RecycleBank sponsored my trip and spa services mentioned in this post.

New from Cover Girl: Liquiline Blast Eyeliner

Cover Girl welcomed a new addition to its “Blast” family recently with the Cover Girl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner. It offers the intensity of a liquid liner and the easy application of a pencil. It’s an incredibly creamy liner and undeniably similar (in theory) to Urban Decay’s 24/7 liners. I picked up the shade Blue Bloom – a shockingly bright blue – on a whim. The verdict? I’m pretty pleased. This is a great liner for the price.

Liquiline Blast applies like a dream. I’ve been using it on my lower lash line for a pop of color and it doesn’t smudge a bit (unless you want it to).  But…there’s a but. I think the intensity of the color wears off throughout the day. The good news is it definitely doesn’t bleed onto the skin, but if you’re looking for 7-10 hour intensity you’re not going to get it unless you reapply. But the no color bleeding is a perk! In fact, after I removed my makeup at the end of the day and washed my face, I had to go back to the undereye area with a qtip soaked in eye makeup remover! Plus, the smudger on the end of the liner is pretty cool. It’s a smooth, rubber-like texture and makes for a good smudger before the liner sets.

Overall, these may not be for everyone, but if you’re shy to colors these are a great, budget-friendly option.

New! Cover Girl LashBlast Fusion

Cover Girl’s newest installment of it’s popular LashBlast mascara, LashBlast Fusion, is meant to both volumize and lengthen lashes. It’s a lofty goal for any mascara to do both and do it well, so I was very interested to see if LashBlast Fusion could get the job done.

At first glance, I was smitten with the tube and it’s snazzy blue color. Isn’t it pretty? The wand is very similar to the original LashBlast but the bristles are a tad longer. As a fan of the original and the LashBlast Length, I could see a fusion happening in this wand. As for performance, this is a wonderful mascara. I tried the black-brown shade for a week and consistently had great results. It lengthens my lashes very impressively and pumps them up subtly. I would say it lengthens more so than it volumizes but I also think the black-brown is more of a natural look.

If you are a fan of the LashBlast line, I know you’ll love LashBlast Fusion. If you aren’t, you really should try this anyway. It doesn’t flake or smudge and is easy to remove. It should be appearing in stores nationwide in April. Just look for the blue tube!

5 Ways To Wear Coral This Spring

If you had to sum up spring beauty in a single word, “coral” would be the word. Nearly every collection captured this color in some way and it really is the perfect color for spring. And everyone can wear it! Here’s our picks on how to incorporate coral in your look – be it cheeks, eyes, nails or lips!

  • Revlon Colorburst Lipstick, Peach: This new formula from Revlon is fabulous and easy on the wallet. It goes on light as a feather, is well pigmented and comes with a great range of shades. If you want something a little funkier and bolder, give Coral a try… that’s more of an orange red.
  • Bobbi Brown Nectar Shimmer Brick: This is the most beautiful Shimmer Brick to ever grace my presence. It’s a pinky coral and makes for a beautiful highlight. And if you’re fair skin you can use it as a blush. The shimmer is finely milled and not over the top so it’s just perfect.
  • OPI Nail Lacquer, A Good Man-darin is Hard to Find: What better way to incorporate on-trend color than on your nails? We’re loving this creamy tangerine from OPI’s Hong Kong collection. This would also look great on the toes…thinking of a pedicure right this instant:)
  • Benefit Nice Melons Velvet Eyeshadow: These are some of the smoothest, pigment-packed eyeshadows and we love them. Nice Melons is a light coral with a gold finish. Coral isn’t the easiest color to wear on the eye for all people – but this shade is incredibly easy to wear in some way!
  • Cover Girl ShineBlast Lip Gloss, Ignite: These glosses are super shiny and sweet and the shade Ignite is one of many coral options to choose from. They aren’t very pigmented glosses, but they give off a sheen and are a perfect layer over a lipstick or lip stain.

How are you wearing coral shades this Spring? What are your favorites? Let us know in the comments.

Mascara Round-Up: Nars, L'Oreal, Almay, Lancome, Benefit and a New Cover Girl LashBlast?

Mascara is one of those beauty products that I wear even on days that I don’t feel like wearing much on my face. Just a quick swipe seems to help tired eyes look bright. At any given moment, I have a handful of mascaras I rotate using.

Here are the ones currently living in my makeup bag:

  • Lancôme Hypnose Drama – I’ve been using this mascara a ton lately – reaching for it nearly every morning. I’ve really grown to love it and find it adds plenty of *drama* to my lashes.
  • Benefit Bad Gal Plum - Now I know reviews are mixed on the Bad Gal mascaras, but I totally love them – especially the  blue and plum. I use the plum a lot with smokey brown eyes, it gives my lashes a little something different.
  • Nars Larger than Life Volumizing – I love this one too! It totally lives up to its claim and totally pumps up my lashes. It is waterproof and very difficult to fully remove — and I even remove it with Nars Cleansing Oil! For that reason, it’s my “special occasion” mascara.
  • Almay Intense I-Color Bring Out Lengthening - I picked this up in Blue Sapphire on a whim. I’m very “eh” on it, and I actually think that Almay has since repackaged/reformulated/discontinued this specific mascara. It’s a beautiful shade of navy blue but it doesn’t do much for my lashes.
  • L’Oreal Double Extend Lash Boosting – One side is primer infused with lash boosting serum and the other is the mascara. It’s just OK. I find it difficult to apply because the wands are basically half the size as normal and it can make application difficult. Also, I find that my lashes can get a little flaky looking at times. It’s as though the primer and mascara don’t entirely work together.

Hmm…sounds like I need to ditch the Almay and L’Oreal and bring back my Cover Girl LashBlast! Speaking of, Cover Girl is introducing a brand new mascara, LashBlast Fusion, which both volumizes and lengthens! Isn’t that thrilling?

It should arrive at stores nationwide in April, but if you look onto www.Facebook.com/COVERGIRL starting today you can find out where you can purchase it early! You can also check out its debut at Fashion Week during the Anna Sui show on You Tube.

What about you – any mascaras you’re loving (or not loving) lately? And are you also so excited for LashBlast Fusion?

Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Lips & Eyes

Happy New Year to all of our readers! Are you ready to say goodbye to the ’00 decade? We’re gearing up for an exciting year here at Product Girl, but first we need to talk about the best and greatest beauty that 2009 had to offer… and a few products we brought with us into the new year from 2008. We’re starting it all off with our favorite lip and eye products.

Remember when we first talked about Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tars? If you haven’t tried them yet, you’re really missing out. With these liquid lip colors, you can play makeup artist and create a custom shade just for you.

CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stains stole our heart this year. With their great range of shades and their wallet friendly price, they are so hard to resist! Plus the felt tip point to these stains do double duty as lip color and lip liner. Did you pick some up this year?

Continuing on with the liquid lip color, Chanel Rouge Allure Laque was a big hit with us this year. This one delivers on all fronts; long lasting, richly pigmented and feels weightless on the lips. Plus it looks oh so glamorous in your makeup up.

Laura Mercier Lip Velvet is the last liquid lip color we’ll badger you with. Laura Mercier’s is a little different from the Chanel Rouge Allure Lacque, it goes on a bit thicker but feels so cushy on and gives the same long lasting, richly pigmented color that we love.

We have gotten well acquainted with Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencils this year. They have been my go-to lip color when I don’t feel like wearing a lot of color and/or dealing with a lip gloss. As I mentioned, it does a great job of giving me sheer color and keeping my lips moist.

Shu Uemura’s Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine is a major fave around here. I know, we keep telling you.  But this formula stands out in a big way with it’s moisturizing properties and dewy shine. Once you try it, we think you’ll be in love with it just like we are.

We think Stila really shined with its Smudge Pots this year, especially the Stila Kitten Smudge Pot. It’s shimmery champagne goodness is the perfect eye base and brightener. It might be our favorite of the whole “kitten” family.

NARS Brumes Eyeshadow duo is meant for blue-eyed girls! It consists of the most smooth matte charcoal and shimmery blue slate colors, and makes for an amazing smokey eye that really pops.

The Style Black collection was a highlight for us this year – the Greasepaint Stick especially. It’s a great base, a great liner and it performs! No smudging – unless you want it to! –  and it even has a built-in sharpener, which is perfect when you want to get a finer tip to line.

For as many mascaras as we try, Cover Girl Lash Blast seems to always have a home in our makeup bag. It delivers consistent results and plumps up our lashes effortlessly.

Now you tell us, what are your favorite eye and lip products of 2009?

Product Girl Must-Haves – October

Product-Girl-Fall-2009-Favorites

Being the beauty addicts we are at Product Girl, it’s always fun to show you what products really rock our world. In that vein, I wanted to share with you what has dominated my makeup bag this past month. October really flew by, and these products were with me every step of the way.

MAC Volcanic Ash Thermal Face Mask – This was released with MAC’s Style Black collection and my face loves this mask. I use this about twice a week (trying to ration it!) after I exfoliate and the combo leaves my skin so soft and I swear it helps keep blemishes at bay. And since it is a thermal mask, it heats up a bit when you wash it off. Not too much heat, but a nice refreshing sensation.

NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Silk Road – For me, this was a sleeper hit of the NARS Fall collection. It’s a very unassuming color combo – an icy pink and a warm rose gold with gold glitter. I immediately liked it but didn’t realize how much I would love it. The icy pink is so pretty as a lid or highlighter shade and the rose gold is beautiful on the lid, the crease –just about anywhere.

Bobbi Brown Metallic Long Wear Cream Shadow in Black Pearl Carla convinced me this was a must-have and she wasn’t kidding. I typically layer over my cream shadows, but not this. I pat it on my lid and it stands alone. Not only is it stunning…but it’s easy.

Cover Girl Lash Blast Length mascara – I’ve been on board the Lash Blast train for awhile – since the original orange tube launched. I love these mascaras – they work well for me. I see LBL as a very reliable mascara – it may not do much for thickening and volumizing, but it does lengthen my lashes, keep my curl and it never clumps or flakes.

Stila Kitten Smudgepot – Brilliance in a pot. This product has earned a permanent home in my makeup bag. I can use this on its own when in a hurry, but I love to use this as a base or on the inner corners of my eyes. It never creases and it isn’t as frosty as its powder sister. Basically, everyone needs this.

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation – I owe you guys a proper review on the new NARS foundations (Sheer Glow and Sheer Matte) because I love them both. But I’ll just say that if you have oily skin, uneven skin tone and/or are breakout prone, this foundation could become your new BFF. Yeah, it’s good. That good.

MAC Dazzleglass Creme in My Favorite Pink – I practically camped out at the MAC counter in anticipation of the Dazzleglass Cremes. And while I didn’t go as ga-ga over them as I thought I would, I did develop quite the affection for the shade My Favorite Pink. It’s bright pink, glittery and slightly creamy. Pretty much a sure thing in my book.

What about you? Any loves for the month of October? Do tell!
