Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Beauty Exclusives 2014

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Beauty Exclusives unveiled earlier this month are almost coming to an end so I thought I should share my picks from the sale before it ends this weekend, the things I’m lusting over as we speak.

You probably know by now that Nordstrom does not have sales on beauty but what they do instead is offer fantastic values with sets from brands we all know and love. Some items are discounted (more on that below) but most are value priced, not to mention exclusive to Nordstrom for the time being.

Ready? Here we go!

New! Clarisonic Pedi Sonic Foot Transformation

clarisonic-pedi-sonic

Stop the presses! My mind was blown this weekend when I discovered that the fine folks at Clarisonic were releasing a new tool, the Clarisonic Pedi Sonic Foot Transformation. I’ve struggled with dry, cracked heels for years now and I have tried almost every single foot file out there, even splurging on the infamous Dimancel files, and countless cracked heel creams.  It wasn’t until I tried a prescription foot cream that I was finally able to gain the upper hand in my pedi situation. This tool piques my interest and gives me hope that I can keep the upper hand in my pedi situation. Good thing sandal weather is coming to a close!

The set retails for $199 and includes:

  • White Pedi Device
  • Pedi Smoothing Disc
  • Pedi Wet/Dry Buffing Brush Head
  • Pedi-Buff Sonic Foot Smoothing Treatment (6 oz.)
  • Pedi-Balm Sonic Foot Softening Treatment (3.5 oz.)
  • Pedi-Boost Sonic Foot Renewal Treatment (1 oz.)
  • USB-Enabled Universal Voltage pLink® Charger

The device has 3 speeds, an adjustable time and is safe for use in the shower or the bathtub. The device itself is intriguing but what I am interested in is the treatments. The smoothing treatment features lactic acid, the same ingredient found in some of my favorite foot creams, as well alpha hydroxy acids to help slough away dead skin. The softening treatment is all about hydrating those poor tired feet with shea butter, apricot oil and honey. The renewing peel treatment goes a step further to get rid of dead skin cells with a lactic and glycolic acid combo. This is all music to my ears, I kid you not.

For the time being, the Clarisonic Pedi Sonic Foot Transformation is available exclusively online. I have a birthday coming up, I think my family should pay attention! ;) Are you intrigued?

Clarisonic's Take on Summer is Bright with the Mia 2

Can you think of a better incentive to wash your face at night than these bright and cheery Clarisonics? This summer, Clarisonic released three new colors of the Mia 2 in peony, mango and coral. Now, we are pretty religious (OCD is more like it) about our cleansing ritual, but even I admit that a bright color can totally jazz up the routine.

The Clarisonic Mia 2 is the newest member of the Clarisonic family. I love it because it has two different timer settings, which was previously available on just the Clarisonic Plus. It might seem straightforward, but we appreciate the structure it lends to getting grit off the face. Lest you forget about the power of this tool (seriously — best investment EVER), it oscillates at over 300 movements per second to cleanse skin six times better than what your hands can do.

Now we don’t know what Clarisonic has in store for the Nordstrom Anniversary sale this year, we’re crossing our fingers for a bright and shiny (but mainly bright) Mia 2 promotion! Once we have intel, you’ll be the first to know. In the meantime, the Peony, Mango and Coral Mia 2s can be found at Clarisonic.com.

QVC’s Black Friday Today’s Special Value is one you MUST have on your radar. QVC is introducing the Clarisonic Mia 2 Next Generation Sonic Cleansing System at a beyond amazing deal. There are ten color options, including so many fun animal prints in bright colors that I am having a difficult time choosing which to get. Seriously, this is THE purchase to make on Black Friday. Check it out here, where it’s already available for purchase!

Beauty VIP of the Week: Clarisonic Deep Pore Cleansing Brush Head

You’ve heard about my skin issues before but right now I’m having a “good skin” moment… it is actually more of a “good skin” few weeks! I attribute that to a few things. First, I’ve been applying Mario Badescu’s Glycolic Gel every other night before bed for the last few weeks but more on that later. And second,  I’ve been using my Clarisonic more diligently and I think the new Clarisonic Deep Pore Cleansing Brush Head ($25) is making a huge difference in my skin. Right now I’m reaping the rewards of this winning combination.

Besides the normal hormonal issues I have on my jawline, I have been developing this redness and dry skin patches along the sides of my nose and smack dab in the middle of my forehead that have been tough to eradicate. I can cover up the redness but the dryness is the most irritating. I found products that help with the dryness (like Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Cream) but I can’t use them on a daily basis because it is too much for my skin. This is where the Clarisonic Deep Pore Cleansing Brush Head has really been helpful. This brush head is ideal for my skin type and for areas of the face like the sides of your nose.

Coming from a sensitive brush head to this new brush head, I expected it to be a little rough on my skin but that has not been the case at all. I do concentrate my brush on these areas I’ve mentioned and even then, no irritation or anything really. Most of the dry patches are gone and I’m seeing reductions in the redness as well, which really motivates me to keep up with daily use. If I slip up and skip a few days, I’ve noticed I go backwards and the progress I’ve made is gone. The good news is that it is attainable again because this will now be my default brush head.

p.s. I didn’t know this but when I was looking at the Clarisonic site to write this, they have a Sonic Savings program that lets you save 20% by signing up for automatic delivery of your Clarisonic products. It’s a good way to remember to toss out your brush heads once they are 3-4 months old!

Get the Ultimate Defined Eye with Clarisonic Opal & Tarte

I’ve come to expect Clarisonic pairings, they are a great way to get a Clarisonic and try new brands at the same time. Clarisonic has teamed up with my beloved Kate Somerville, Philosophy and Murad in the past. Now we have our first Clarisonic Opal pairing and I really love this idea; you have a tool to treat the eye area and you have products to define your eyes… it’s genius!

The Clarisonic Infusion System with Tarte is limited-edition and contains:

  • Clarisonic Opal Sonic Infuser
  • Anti-Aging Sea Serum
  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara (0.24 oz.)
  • Tarte EmphasEYES Aqua-Gel Eyeliner (0.003 oz)
  • Tarte Lifted Natural Eye Primer with Firmitol (0.08 oz.)
  • Two Replacement Opal Applicator Tips
  • Universal Voltage Charger for Opal
  • Wristlet Carrying Case

This set has a retail value of $232 but retails for $185 exclusively at Sephora online. You know we love the Opal, right?

Best of 2010: Our Favorite Skincare Items

Skincare, above all things, is probably our number one beauty priority. Can’t build a house without a good foundation right? There were a few items that really stood out to us in 2010 — for their innovation, hydration, simplicity and ability to make our skin feel, and look, fabulous. Here’s what we loved this past year.

Josie Maran Argan Primer Mist – I cannot get enough of all things Argan, thanks to Josie Maran – her Argan Primer Mist included. This can be used as a primer, it’s so hydrating and really helps prepare the skin for layers of makeup, but I think it’s even better used as a refresher  mid-day or on clean skin. I’ve recommended this product to pretty much every woman I know.

Boscia Black Luminizing Mask – This mask by Boscia is the ultimate de-gunker. It sucks everything out of your pores and minimizes them in the process, and really does give a luminizing effect to the skin. Carla and I were both quite impressed. I used it twice weekly in the summer, but now that it’s winter I find I use it once every 7-10 days. I’m addicted!

Clarisonic Opal - Speaking of addiction…the Clarisonic Opal. This is a fantastic innovation, and it works. Admittedly, I don’t have serious undereye wrinkles but even I notice a perk in the skin around my eyes.

Kate Somerville CytoCell Dermal Energizing Treatment - Carla and her CytcoCell became best friends this year. It tamed the dry patches, helps control excess oil and helped reduce overall redness in a light weight and emollient formula… LOVE!

Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Facial Wipes - These are a budget beauty steal! In terms of facial wipes, these may be the most soothing I’ve ever used. They are what they promise to be. I also really enjoy the cucumber scent. It’s like a spa at home.

What skincare items made your list of favorites for 2010?

Review: Clarisonic Opal Sonic Infusion System

I’m a very results-oriented person. Otherwise known as impatient. Perhaps a little high-strung. And definitely difficult to please. So in testing the Clarisonic Opal, I was expecting big things…right from the start. I had confidence in the product because I am crazy in love with the Clarisonic (my girl Clare!), but the cynic in me was scoffing a bit at the $245 price tag for Opal and her $100 refills.

Before I reveal my opinion, let me tell you more about Opal. We know about sonic cleansing technology from the Clarisonic, but Opal uses sonic infusion technology to gently infuse anti-aging sea serum into the epidermis. The serum, filled with marine extracts and botanicals, was designed with sonic infusion technology in mind. I encourage you to read up on it if knowing the science is important to you. I found it very interesting. It’s always a good idea to know what you’re infusing into the most delicate area of your face!

Clinical studies revealed many benefits:

  • An immediate reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles – results last for hours and build over time
  • Younger looking skin
  • Skin appears refreshed and energized, brighter and healthier
  • Improved skin texture and noticeably firmer skin
  • Increased skin hydration

Now I can’t speak to every benefit here as I don’t have wrinkles around the eyes, but I think the Opal delivers on all counts.  The very first time I used it I noticed that the area around my eye was visibly brighter. I even tested it on my husband, who has a line or two. He looked brighter too, but alas, I’m not sharing the Opal with him. :)

Dare I say this product is a bit addictive? While Clarisonic did furnish us with a sample, I know at some time I’ll have to purchase new dispensers (each pack comes with two). I love the part of my day that I use this, it’s such a recharge. Almost like a jolt of caffeine. I use it in the evening, on a clean face, but you can use the Opal with makeup on at any time of the day. It’s not intended to be directly used under the eye, more or less around the bone that frames your sockets and around the eye contour eye.  Trust me when I say you’ll know when you’ve gotten too close to the undereye area.

Clearly, this is another huge win for Clarisonic. I think that women with mature skin should consider using the Opal – it’s like a visit to the dermatologist, just with no fillers. Those at a younger age shouldn’t write this off though. I think there are many benefits beyond reducing wrinkles, but it’s definitely a splurge.

Let us know if you have any Opal questions, happy to answer them!

Review: Clarisonic Plus Sonic Skin Cleansing System

The Clarisonic has gained a ton of respect for its cleansing abilities and there are countless women out there singing its praises. Well, now its our turn. I’ve been using the Clarisonic Plus for well over a month now, and about a week into using it I was just kicking myself for not trying it out sooner. It really is all that and then some. I used to think that this was maybe a “nice to have” but I’m well into “need” territory now. For as diligent as I am with washing my face, even I can’t compete with sonic technology.

The Clarisonic math goes like this: More than 300 movements per second for 60 seconds equals a killer deep cleanse. I mostly use it in the evenings, but it’s certainly gentle enough to use twice daily. I can say without a doubt that the Clarisonic has improved the texture of my skin and is just what the doctor ordered for keeping those pores clear. Plus it’s so simple. I still follow my normal routine:  remove eye makeup and use my NARS Makeup Cleansing Oil all over. Then I put Clare to work (the name I’ve affectionately given her). It’s safe to use with any normal, non-abrasive cleanser which is nice.

Clare is such a workhorse, she:

  • Removes 6x more makeup than manual cleansing – Yes, even after my pre-cleanse removal, makeup still comes off. Gratifying yet disgusting!
  • Cleanses so well that products absorb better
  • Helps reduce oily areas, dry skin patches and blemishes
  • Helps reduce the appearance of visible pores

The Clarisonic Plus also comes with a body brush. I tested it out and while my skin felt smooth afterwards, I see myself using Clare mainly on the face. I’ll probably only bust out the body brush for a special occasion. I will say though, it’s nice to have the option. As a now believer in the powers of the Clarisonic, I really do think this is worth splurging on. Clarisonic gave  us this product to test, but I would purchase it in a heartbeat. I’ve already ordered my next set of brush heads from Sephora! It really is a worthy investment in skincare.

Clarisonic Sonic Chatter Blog Event

Last night I attended Clarisonic event here in Seattle at Spa Scotta to celebrate the launch of their new Sonic Chatter blog. This was the first time I have been able to attend an event held by a beauty brand in my own hometown (in case you are wondering, they are based near Seattle) so I was very excited to go!

The ladies at Spa Scotta were fantastic hosts, if you haven’t been there before, I urge you to book an appointment… I had the best pedicure of my life there. In addition to experiencing the new CND Shellac nail treatment (more on that tomorrow) and massages, we got a chance to see the new Clarisonic Opal in action and to try it on ourselves in addition to checking out the Clarisonic Plus, a model made for face and body. A great tip for using the Clarisonic Plus is to use it all over your body right before applying a self-tanner, it will get rid of all that dead skin and your self-tanner will look smoother.

I had a chance to see the Opal being used backstage at the Chris Benz show during Fashion Week in February but my first hands on experience with it was yesterday. Tracing the Opal along the under-eye area feels amazing! One of the gals from Clarisonic actually told me she keeps hers with her in her car in case she ever needs a mid-day pick me up. I don’t know that it will replace my mid-day latte but it definitely seems like a good idea to me.

I received a samples of each product at the event so we’re putting it to the test! Laurie and I will be reviewing both the Clarisonic Plus and the Clarisonic Opal and letting you know how it works for us so stay tuned for more on these two products.
