Dior Electric Tropics Collection for Summer 2011

Let’s do a little word association. When I saw Dior’s Electric Tropics Collection for Summer 2011, the first word that came to mind was hot. The second was must and the third, have. I am very impressed with Dior’s take on summer. The electric part of it is tasteful and well done, and the rest of it is pure tropical beach goddess.

Do you know what the key element to looking like a tropical beach goddess (aside from the body) is, right? Bronzer. And did Dior ever deliver on the bronzer front.

Diorskin ‘Nude Summer Glow’ Healthy Glow Powder in Aurora is a warm peachy bronzer that scultps the face perfectly. It’s beautifully woven with shades of bronze and peachy-pinks with a slight satin shimmer. Aurora has your blushing, bronzing and highlighting needs covered in one simple compact. This all-in-one ease really appeals to the multi-tasker in me.

Isn’t Aurora just stunning? It may be my favorite beauty purchase of 2011 to date — scoring points for aesthetics and the magical bronzed glow it creates on my face. Aurora is recommended for fair to medium skin tones, but it would be wearable as a highlighter for darker skin tones. Dior also created Sunset Healthy Glow Powder for medium to darker skin types. I highly recommend checking these powders out – it truly is an incredible bronzer!

Let us know if you’ve checked out Dior summer yet, and perhaps the word that first came to your mind!

Just Another Mani Monday: Dior Vernis in NY 57th

This week I wanted something a little darker on my nails after the Easter egg confetti fest that was last week’s mani, I guess it is a reflection of my mood lately, dark and angsty. Normally I am not a dark grey metallic gal so this is not a color I would typically go for but something about it just feels right. I wanted to go with a grey but want some flash to go along with it so I chose Dior’s NY 57th for my nails this week, it is from the Dior Gris City collection.

These Dior polishes include a new wider brush like Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon manicure polishes, which I appreciate because I am a little messy when I do my nails, if you have not noticed by now. That’s ok though, within a few days, it looks just fine. 🙂 What I wish was a little different in this formula was that it had a more glossy finish to it, it seems to dry a bit flat. I remedied that with my top coat but otherwise I liked the application of this formula. Two coats gave me the color in the bottle and when I went back to correct some mistakes, it leveled out nicely.  Looking down at my nails now, I really like this shade. It doesn’t read goth to me, instead it’s dark, sophisticated chic.

The Gris City collection also includes Bond Street (a dark blue grey) and Gris Montaigne (a classic dark grey) as seen above. Bond Street and NY 57th are exclusive to Dior.com but you can find Gris Montaigne in stores like Sephora and Nordstrom. Check Nordstrom out as they also have Dior’s spring collection counterpart Pink Boa.

I do have a confession to make, a friend and I have been toying with the idea of mixing our own nail polish shades. I’m starting to acquire some cheap creme shades for mixing and now I’m to looking for glitters and other pigments to play with. I am starting to get a little excited about this. I’ll fill you in on this when I have something to present.  What is on your nails this week? Tell us about it in the comments.

New! Dior Rock Your Nails Collection

This summer Dior is going to rock our nails with their limited edition Rock Your Nails collection. It is a fashion-forward line of limited edition Dior Vernis shades in Dior’s long-lasting formula. The collection includes 5 shades and Rock Coat, a smoky finishing top coat that can be worn alone or mixed with different shades to create a new look. Here are the shades in this collection:

  • Nirvana #704 – deep turquoise
  • Purple Mix #887 – sultry purple
  • Perfecto #804 – cool slate grey
  • Blue Label #997 – edgy navy
  • Underground #824 – rich brown-taupe

The nail polishes will retail for $21.00 each and Rock Coat will retail $19.50 and they will be hitting Nordstrom counters next week and Dior.com next month.

I’ve heard from a few people that the Rock Coat top coat is amazing and I cannot wait to see for myself. Can you even imagine what a “smoky” top coat would look like? I am dying to find out, are you?

Dior Timeless Gold Nail Color

I have to be honest, Dior’s Holiday nail colors are confusing me! Seems like every retailer has their own limited edition exclusive. From what I’ve seen online, they all look gorgeous though. One of those shades is Dior’s Timeless Gold, the shade I’m rocking on my nails this week. This gold shade is different than the other golds in my stash, it is cooler than the others so I can wear it with silver and not feel like my faux metals are clashing. 😉

This nail polish is the first one I’ve used with the new wide brush, like the ones in the Sally Hansen polishes. I’m not sure why but I wasn’t a fan of these brushes the first time I tried them but this time around, I noticed it gave me a much more even application and my cuticles were definitely much cleaner. Anything that helps me give myself a cleaner looking manicure gets an A in my book.

Disclosure: I received a sample of this product.

Summer Beauty: Fresh & Light Perfumes

I’m sure I’m not alone here but usually in the summer, I reach for my lighter fruit and citrus note based perfumes. There’s just something about a clean fresh fragrance in the summertime that makes everything better. Sometimes all I need is just to smell one of these fragrances on my skin to feel better when it’s hot and muggy outside… which granted hasn’t been that often here in Seattle this but nonetheless, it is about freshness for me this summer and these fragrances fit the bill.

I’ve already told you about Dior’s Escale Aux Marquises, it’s my current tropical floral escape fragrance. If you like your summer fragrances to be more on the floral side of things, I bet you’ll like this one.  The notes of blood orange, tiare flower, pink pepper and vanilla create a beautiful breezy bouquet.

Last year I was looking for suggestions for a new summer fragrance and turned to Twitter for ideas. God Bless Heather Park (check out her new website) for suggesting Jo Malone’s Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne, we have been inseparable ever since. This is now one of my favorite fragrances of all time. When you first smell it’s beautiful nectarine notes, it’s like biting into a fresh, ripe nectarine. It’s mouth watering with notes of  nectarine, peach, plum and blackcurrant. I am complimented almost every time I wear it and I have even been known to spritz it on for a little pick me… it’s just a happy scent.

Pacifica’s Malibu Lemon Blossom Spray Perfume is another happy scent I’m loving this summer. I’m love it so much that I’ve picked up the Lemon Blossom soap, body butter and candles to layer and fill my life with the scent. Imagine a soapy lemon scent with a touch of salt and lemon blossom thrown in, that’s Malibu Lemon Blossom. It is a unique and long lasting scent that wears all day.

I received a sample of Orange Sapphire from Bath & Body Works back in May when I was in New York. I smelled it at the time and liked it but didn’t love it until I discovered the bottle among some of my makeup after I moved last month. As the name suggest, there’s definitely some orange to this fragrance but there are also some floral and darker notes in it as well. The result is a very clean, refreshing fragrance that almost crosses into unisex territory.

What are your favorite warm weather perfumes? Leave a comment and tell us what you’re wearing these days.

New! Dior Fall Collection 2010

The new Dior fall color collection hit counters this month and I am in love. Admittedly, it’s not hard for me to fall in love with a makeup collection but with this one’s shades of mauve and deep purples (shades that make us brown eyed girls eyes pop!) has my attention. This fall collection is about gorgeous smokey eyes and full lashes with berry tones on the lips. “Dior women are not shy, they’re modern and daring,” says John Galliano.

This Dior 2-Colour Logomania Collector’s Edition palette is the shinning star of the collection. This would make a mean smokey eye with amped up shimmer! You can get a feel for a look with this by checking out the promo.

Dior has two eyeshadow quints available for fall, shown above is Misty Mauve. My eye aren’t quite seeing the mauve part of it, rather a beautiful mix of neutrals and an edgy purple. I like what I see though! This is available everywhere but Sephora for $58.00.

Next we have a 5-Colour Designer Eyeshadow in Pink Design. It’s a blend of satiny, shimmery and matte shades. This doesn’t quite have the broader appeal that Misty Mauve has, but those who pull of pinks well will be quite pleased with this.

For nails, the collection features 2 shades: Black Sequins and Cherry Blossom. While Black Sequins is a re-promote from 2008’s holiday collection (did you run out and get it then? I did), Cherry Blossom is a new shade and is pictured above in the beauty shot. You can find swatches of Cherry Blossom on Temptalia and Black Sequins on Steph’s Closet.

There’s also a ton of new lip products available, shown above are Dior Addict Lipcolor in Technicolor Red and Spectacular Mauve. Can you guess which one I’m loving? 🙂  Dior’s also giving us five shades of Dior Serum de Rouge and Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Tailored Mauve, which you can see on the model’s lips. It’s actually a pretty fantastic color and is selling out quickly. Laurie informed me that her Nordstrom sold out of it the first weekend they had it in.

Anything from this collection making it to your fall shopping list? Let us know!

New! Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm

Leave it to Erika at Makeup Bag to make me want something I didn’t really need. I saw this new Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm with SPF 10 on her blog and immediately wanted it. Then I got a Macy’s gift card at a company function last week and I knew it was meant to be. My Creme de Rose Lip Balm and I have been together ever since.

This lip balm is part of Dior’s Lace collection (more on that collection later) and it is completely luscious and soothing on the lips. It has that nice thick texture that coats lips in moisture that I have come to expect from every lip balm I try. It leaves a nice shine behind and best of all, it smells like roses. I’d be a happy gal if every lip product was rose scented. 😉

Have you checked out the new Dior Lace collection? Isn’t the packaging gorgeous? I’m a sucker for lace.

Product Girl 2009 Favorite Beauty Products – Face and Palettes

Our favorite beauty products of the year continues with our must-haves for our faces and top-picks for palettes! We saw a lot of new foundations released this past year, with the trend no longer being just coverage but good-for-you ingredients. See what stood our for us below!

Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer was a favorite of Carla’s this year. If this multi-tasking concealer is good enough to cover up Miss Von D’s tattoos, imagine what it can hide on your complexion?

We were wowed by Benefit Hello Flawless and Benefit Erase Paste. Together, the two create a flawless (uh, pun intended!) canvas. Plus, Benefit’s packaging and marketing is top-notch, don’t you think? We always look forward to seeing what they’re bringing next.

We fell hard for Dior Nude Skin Foundation and NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, both giving excellent, buildable coverage without looking like we’re wearing foundation or irritating our sensitive skin.

The standout of MAC’s Colour Ready collection, Prep & Prime Transparent Finishing Powder Powder, is our pick for best powder of 2009. This stuff is the perfect finisher to foundation and helps set our faces without mattifying us completely. And it’s part of the permanent line, thank you MAC… a few swipes of this with a brush and our pores are instantly minimized.

TheBalm Sexy Mama helped keep Carla’s skin shine free the year before so she re-upped and kept with it in 2009.  The adorable pinup girl may reel you in but this translucent powder is bringing sexy matte without caking.

We have a major thing for highlighters here at Product Girl HQ. Major. We could probably change the name of this blog to Highlighter Girl and get along just fine. But even we have our favorites. Bobbi Brown’s Nude Shimmer Brick may just be the best Shimmer Brick of all time. This gives that “lit from within” glow and is so easy to wear. It’s love. One of our most recent favorites, Le Tissage de Lames Chanel imparts a brightening gold sheen and is our pick for most luxurious.

Benefit’s One Hot Minute has been a revelation to us this year. Take your pick, use it as a bronzer or use it as a highligher, the gorgeous rose gold shimmer can work as either on a variety of skin tones. And how cute is the tin? Loving it…

MAC’s Rose Romance collection made a dent in our wallets and included an amazing cheek stain – Just a Pinch Gel Blush. It’s a sheer rosy red that gives a natural flush to cheeks. We would so looove to see more of these released! What do you say, MAC? Will we see more?

Another MAC blush that captured hearts in ’09 was The Perfect Cheek, released with MAC’s Fall launch, Make Up Art Cosmetics. It’s a tricky line a fair-skinned girl walks when wearing nude blushes (mud alert), but this has the right amount of pink in it to make it well, perfect. (Full of puns today, loud and proud!)

Ok, this is the last time we’ll mention the Trish McEvoy Voyager Beauty Emergency Card or Trish McEvoy… this year. 🙂 We can’t help it, we really, really love it. Pictures really don’t do this little set justice, if your local counter still has it, you need to snap this up… for cuteness sake.

We made some big claims about Dior’s Smoky Crystal quint earlier this month, and we stand by them! These shadows are incredibly smooth and every color in this palette is stunning.

Bobbi Brown has had some great releases this year but one of our favorites is the Bobbi Brown Brights Eye Palette. We love seeing Bobbi show us bolder color and this palette definitely had plenty of that.

Now it’s your turn. What lit up your face in 2009? Any palettes that you can’t get enough of?  Share in the comments!

New! Dior Parisian Nude Spring 2009 Collection

Also now in stores is the new Parisian Nude color collection from Dior for spring 2009. It features more neutral shades than we have been seeing from other collections for spring but that’s definitely fine by me, these kinds of shades are always welcome in my makeup bag. 🙂

The star product in this collection is the Lady Dior handbag duo. It features a highlighter and a creamy tint for both lips and cheeks. The one available at Dior counters is French Chic and Sephora has the exclusive Parienne Chic. This compact actually has a clasp on it so you can attach it to your actual handbag. How gorgeous is this?

This collection also features some beautiful eyeshadows, lip colors and nail polishes that are worth looking at:

  • 2-Colour Eyeshadow in Nude Look #365 (Not in Sephora)
  • 5-Colour Iridescent Eyeshadow in Parisian Lights #559
  • 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Elegante #553
  • Crayon Eyeliner in Elegant Taupe #063

  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Trenchcoat Beige #137
  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Ribbon Beige #447
  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Clutch Pink #517
  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Satin Pink #657
  • Dior Addict High-Shine Lipstick in New Look Beige #220
  • Dior Addict High-Shine Lipstick in Couture Pink #260
  • Rouge Dior Lipstick in Rita Beige #298
  • Rouge Dior Lipstick in Actress Chestnut #632

dior-vernis-nude-chic dior-vernis-porcelain

  • Dior Vernis in Porcelain #189 (Non-Sephora doors)
  • Dior Vernis in Nude Chic #219 (Sephora only)

As much as it kills the collector in me, I’m not picking up the Lady Dior compact. I blame that on the recession. I am eying the eyeshadows but have to figure out which one to get, I’m a little torn. What I have picked up so far is the nail polish in Nude Chic. It’s a fantastic nude color for my fair skin. At least I didn’t have a problem deciding on that one. 🙂

How about you? Have you picked up anything from the Parisian Nude color collection from Dior? Or are you simply admiring it from afar? Let us know in the comments.

Getting Chic with Dior's Chic Eyeshadow Palette

While I was in Sephora on Saturday morning for their Friends and Family event, I spent some time admiring the Dior display. After reading the Muse’s take on Dior Night Diamond All Over Diamond Dust Powder, I had to see it for myself. While I ultimately passed on the powder for something else, I was taken with this particular Dior piece.

Dior Chic Eyeshadow Palett

The Dior Chic Eyeshadow Palette is just gorgeous, so gorgeous that I couldn’t help but pick it up with the discount I had that day. All of the eyeshadows are richly pigmented and have a lovely shimmer to them. I was lured in by the brownish-green shade. When I swatched it on the back of my hand, it was such a pretty combination of golden brown and green that I fell in love with the palette right then and there.

This Dior Chic Eyeshadow Palette is only available at Sephora and it’s limited edition, be sure to check it out next time you’re wandering through the store.
