Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Pencil + A Pretty Powerful Friends & Family Sale

Remember when we lost our marbles over the news of Bobbi Brown’s Long Wear eyeliners in pencil form? The joy was justified. They really do look and feel like the Gel version on the eye and they do what they say they’re going to do: WEAR for a really LONG time. From coffee to cocktails, natch.

Top L-R: Black Navy, Hunter, Mahogany. Bottom L-R: Black Plum, Jet, Smoke

In the circle of eyeliner preferences, we’re in the pencil-loving phase. They offer a convenience we can’t ignore. Aside from sharpening them (which you have to do with these every 4-5 uses) they are efficient from a time, use and wear perspective. Also? The colors are, to invoke her phrase, pretty powerful. I tested Jet, which is the blackest of blacks, and Mahogany, which is a perfect mix of deep brown and grey. I’m eyeing up Black Plum and Smoke, though, I love the mysterious shades. Is it black? Brown? How about grey? No? Purple?

Good news! Starting Monday, April 16, – Wednesday, April 18, Bobbi Brown will offer a 20% Friends & Family discount on BobbiBrownCosmetics.com. If you’ve got the Long-Wear Eye Pencil bug or just need to stock up on the essentials, seize the day.

New! Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Collection

Color us excited! Bobbi Brown is releasing GET THIS…pencil versions of her famously fabulous Long Wear Gel Eyeliner. RIGHT??? There was a time when those were the only eyeliners I wore. I must have burned through an entire pot of the Violet in less than 6 months. It was 2006 and I was going through a major purple phase.

Long-Wear Eye Pencil ($24) – Stays put for 12 hours! Now in Jet, Mahogany, Black Navy, Black Plum, Hunter and Smoke.

Long-Wear Cream Shadow ($24) – Four new shades available: Cool Lilac, Velvet Plum, Black Violet, Smoky Topaz and Berry Noir.

Intensifying Long-Wear Mascara ($24) – Bobbi’s longest-lasting mascara, delivering lush, thick lashes that can stand up to the elements for up to 16 hours.

After hearing about the new Long-Wear Cream Shadow shades, now seems as good as time as any to revive my purple obsession! What do you think?

Bobbi Brown Brightening Finishing Powder Adds the Magic Touch

Let’s start this review out by saying I live for Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks. They are among my favorite beauty products, and I have such fond memories affixed to each one and the time in my life when I used each one. So I didn’t know what to anticipate when I first tried Bobbi’s Brightening Finishing Powder, from the Brightening Nudes collection. And after using it, it’s still hard to describe the effect on skin. And I think it stems from some pre-conceived Shimmer Brick notions. Well, I’m dropping them, so you should too.

This is an entirely different product. I wouldn’t call it a highlighter. Or a cheek product. It truly is a finishing powder (which, um…duh…is in the product name) in that you can use it to complete your look. Brush it all over, anywhere you want. It adds something, albeit very hard to describe. I see somewhat of an airbrush finish, a polish, a softening. I like to sweep it over my eyelids, and all over. There’s some glitter in there, but it’s near impossible to see it on the skin unless you get reallyREALLy close. And even then, it feels like its doing something right.

It’s hard to put into words that “magic touch.” But that’s what I feel like it does. And I like the fancy velvet pouch it comes in. Super chic, Bobbi!

On Our Beauty Radar: Bobbi Brown Brightening Nudes Collection

We don’t know about you, but when Bobbi Brown releases a new “nudes” collection we get excited. The earlier “Neons and Nudes” was a treat and the new Brightening Nudes collection appears to be as well.

Sparkle Eye Shadow ($28) in four illuminating shades, Silver Moon, Mica, Ballet and Sunlight.

Brightening Finishing Powder ($50) is a mix of six luminous shades.  This is a new formula for Bobbi Brown, with Mulberry and Grape extracts, among others. We’re so excited to try this!

Brightening Lip Gloss ($23) in three shades, Lilac Pearl, Pink Opal and Pink Lilac. Don’t you love how this looks on the model? They have a pearlescent hue and give lips a fuller look.

Crystal Glitter Lip Gloss ($18) is the sparkly version of Bobbi’s Crystal Lip Gloss. And like the original, it’s super shiny and perfect for layering over other lip products.

Brighten Up With Neon!

It’s that drab time of the year when the snow has lost its luster and the magic of the holidays is now a distant, faded memory. I don’t know about you, but I’m itching for spring to arrive – warmer weather, longer days and of course, Spring 2012 collections. Although spring is still a few months off I’m already ditching my winter greys and beiges and injecting some color back into my wardrobe and makeup routine. The spring trend I’m looking forward to most this year? Neon!

To avoid looking like an extra in Jessie Spano’s “Hot Sundae” music video, gradually introduce neon into your look with a bold accessory such as a belt or bag and work your way up to a bright blazer or blouse.  And when it comes to makeup it is possible to rock the neon trend without feeling like the little girl who got into mom’s 1989 makeup case. Nail polish is always a safe way to try a new trend without the commitment and I’m loving the colors from Bobbi Brown’s “Nudes and Neon” collection – they are fun without being too loud.

Check out the neons I’m loving right now and get ready to kick the winter blues to the curb!

Four Spring Eyeshadow Palettes to Covet

I had hope that it wouldn’t, but winter has arrived. It’s the coldest morning of the season (at least in Chicago — brrr!). What more appropriate time to talk spring? The thrill of using a brand new eye shadow palette is a feeling I crave. And spring beauty gives me something to look foward to – like actual spring weather!  Here are a few palettes in particular that have captivated our early attention.

Christian Dior once said, “After women, flowers are the most heavenly creation.” So it makes sense that the brand’s spring 2012 collection, Garden Party, is inspired by the garden he created in the cliffs of Normandy. And just LOOK at these eyeshadow palettes.  The 5-Couleurs Garden Edition palettes ($59 each) in Garden Pastels and Garden Roses are stunning. I think the greens in the Pastels look so wearable. And the intricate pattern is beautiful.

Bobbi Brown’s Ultra Nude Eye Palette ($45) from the upcoming Neons and Nudes collection is classic Bobbi. I’ve long loved her classic nude eyshadows, and this contains six of the best ((Stone, Chino, Pink Chandelier, Praline, Champagne, and Cocoa Berry.) Pair any of these shadows with a bright neon lip, per Bobbi’s instructions, and you’re set for spring.

The Smashbox “Be Discovered” palette ($44) includes eight shadows (six shimmer + two matte) that give you endless options. I love the bronzey neutrals, but the shimmery purple is what caught my eye most. Like all Smashbox palettes, there’s not a lemon in the bunch!

Anything catch your eye? If you could splurge on just one, which would it be?

A Few of Our Favorite Things…for the Mamas

If there’s one person I love to pamper, it’s my mom. I love making her feel special and beautiful. I only hope that one day, I have children that share this same philosophy. And I’ll have hopefully trained them all to be beauty lovers, too. An army of product girls and boys is what I’m aiming for. If you’re looking for some ideas to spoil your mama this holiday season, here are our picks!

  1. Bobbi Brown Party Collection Mini Brush Set – Moms love Bobbi Brown. I mean, who doesn’t, really? Even for the non-makeup maven mama, Bobbi Brown is known as a trusted beauty advisor. This brush set, featuring one of my most-used brushes, the Mini Face Blender, also comes with a gunmetal carrying clutch. $60, BobbiBrown.com
  2. Kate Somerville Refinery29 Winter Essentials Kit – If there is one thing a mom will appreciate it, it’s quality skin care. Plus, this set contains an anti-aging powerhouse (Kate’s Clinic-to-Go pads) without the words “anti-aging” blasted over it. Perhaps desired, but not always what you want to overtly gift mom. Through December 24, purchase for $69 at Refinery29 Reserve. (Oh, and we’re giving away a kit — enter here by Friday, Dec. 16!)
  3. Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour Palette – The soft and feminine shades in this eyeshadow palette have mom written all over it. It’s sophisticated and sexy, and even comes with a double-sided brush. $48, Nordstrom
  4. Kérastase Elixir Ultime – Chances are, your mom color treats her hair. To help minimize heat and styling damage, a hair oil is a necessary luxury. Emphasis on the luxury.  What’s more pampering than Elixir Ultime, with a blend of four oils that work on all hair types? $54, Birchbox.com
  5. Fresh Mini Sugar Kissing Trio – Why get one, when you can get three? Fresh packed its three newest Sugar Balms – Sugar Plum, Sugar Honey and Sugar Passion – into a made-for-gifting (and hoarding) set. My mom loves these (like mother, like daughter), but I know she’s not likely to splurge on lip balm on her own. I picked this set up for my mother-in-law, and am anticipating she’ll be hooked, too. $28, Sephora
  6. Decleor Nourshing Treasure Trove Set – This set is so beautifully packaged, and contains just what mom needs to feel pampered and hydrated. The trove includes Nutridivine Soft Cream, Aromessence Angelique, Aroma Solutions Lip Balm and Aroma Night Angelique Night Balm. $77, DecleorUSA.com

Beauty VIP of the Week: One Love Organics Skin Savior Balm Will Have You Saying AMEN!

When a single product description includes, “hair tamer, illuminizer, make up remover, moisturizer, primer and skin soother,” among its uses, that is music to my ears. And when said product lives up to its expectations, that’s akin to a religious experience.

I can attribute this “hallelujah” to One Love Organics Skin Savior Waterless Beauty Balm, or for short, my Skin Savior. One Love Organics is a natural cosmetics company, which sources only the highest grade of raw materials. Their commitment to natural and organic is evident in their entire line. Skin Savior is comprised of pure, cold-pressed plant oils, vitamin E, vanilla extract and chia extract, and can be used for pretty much anything and on pretty much anyone.

As a makeup remover, it breaks down dirt and clears out your pores without stripping your skin. The key to using it that way, however, is most definitely in the shammy…One Love Organics Your Best Friend Skin Shammy, that is. It’s not just a microfiber cloth, but the perfect companion to the Skin Savior AND good for up to 200 washes. As a moisturizer, it is a healthy beverage for your skin. It smells so fresh (thanks to the orange peel wax) and feels even better. Use it over or under makeup, or both, as I like to do. A dab on the cheekbones over makeup and you will see how it acts as an illuminizer. L-o-v-e.

Skin Savior Balm meets Bobbi Brown Skin Mineral Foundation

I saved the best for last….Skin Savior as a medium to mix with mineral makeup. One Love Organics has product tutorials on its website, and one is all about mixing Skin Savior with mineral powder to create a cream foundation. I tried it myself and the results were CRAZY good. You can build the color up to the intensity desired (more powder = more coverage) and it just sort of becomes your skin.

Skin Savior Balm + Bobbi Brown Skin

See what I mean? This is a freshly mixed blend on the back of my hand.  It’s really easy, and while it took me a little more time than the normal, it was worth the extra effort. And that, my friends, is why Skin Savior is this week’s Beauty VIP. AMEN.

Check it out at One Love Organics.
