Our holiday gift guide continues today with gift ideas for The Active Girl. She’s the girl who can get out of bed for an early a.m. workout (we so wish we were her!) and has probably done some type of “athalon.” If you’re not sure what to get her, think gym bag essentials.
Showering at the gym is my least favorite activity, but The Active Girl does it on the regular. So she doesn’t sacrifice skincare, give her the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel packs to store in her gym bag. They exfoliate, improve skin texture and brighten skin in just a few minutes.
Can you say best makeup bag ever? Sonia Kashuk Completely Organized Bag is the most practical gift ever. A classic black nylon bag with so many zippered compartments and pouches to neatly store all of your makeup. This would make a great gift — and you could stuff a few beauty goodies in there to boot!
Securing your hair during a workout is the key to a successful one in my book. How fun are these sparkly Kitsch Metallic Mix Headbands? They stay in place during an hour of cardio sculpt and up the fab factor tremendously. Plus, they are super cute when you’re not at the gym. Find these at Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie.
Snack and Give Back. Bobbi Brown teamed with KIND to create this Eat Pretty Powerful Cube with sales supporting a free public charter school in NYC that helps empower vulnerable youth. The Cube contains 20 of Bobbi’s favorite KIND bars (including Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt – yum!) The Active Girl will totally appreciate this huge supply of KIND fuel.
The Active Girl is constantly showering, so gift her with Kiehl’s Limited Edition Crème de Corps designed by New York Pop artist Kenny Scharf, so her skin stays moisturized. This is one of the holiday collections we look forward to every year, because 100% of profits support RxArt, which brings art to pediatric hospitals. The design is so fun, with Kenny Scharf’s “Squirt” character.
Our holiday gift guide continues with the perfect presents for The Party Girl in your life. The girl who has plans every night of the week and craves sparkly things. These gifts are part glam on the go and 100% fabulous. And naturally, we want them all!
Inspired by the British “holiday cracker” tradition, Jouer Sparkle & Pop is filled with all sorts of treats, including a cocktail ring, beauty fortune, mini champagne bubbles and one of three potential deluxe Jouer samples. The latter is a surprise — the Body Butter, Essential Lip Enhancer or Glisten Lip Gloss will be inside. Jouer smartly packaged these in a value pack of four, in addition to singles, so you can split up for gifting.
Objects are smaller than they appear with the Bobbi Brown ‘Uber Nude’ Lip & Eye Palette but it has literally everything you need for a night out. We love these classic neutral shades — this is perfect for packing in a clutch or on a trip!
How fabulous would it be to pull this sparkly Stephanie Johnson SNAP Mirror out of your bag? A portable mirror is such a functional gift and the sparkles make it that much more fun. Everything Stephanie Johnson makes is perfection.
The Party Girl is always known for fabulous hair, right? We can’t think of a better duo than Living Proof Prime andamp2, the brand’s newest styling launches. Prime acts like a face primer but for your hair strands and amp2 creates texture and major volume with the help of a tiny molecule that creates friction and space on every strand.
Leave it to the folks at Benefit to come up with the yet another must-have holiday kit. Benefit She’s So…Jetsethas everything for The Party Girl — like Life on the A List Lip Gloss and They’re Real Mascara, which lengthens lashes like nobody’s biz.

Perhaps the most universal and widely-used item in a makeup bag is black eyeliner. For nearly two decades, I’ve been using this staple. There’s been good times and bad times. Smoky and precise. Smudges on purpose and many more due to experimentation gone wrong. My technique vastly improved when I hit my 20s and discovered Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. That phase lasted for years — it was literally all I used (Black and Violet Ink were my go-tos). I’ve since expanded my options, but I do think of Bobbi Brown as the eyeliner guru. It’s a category, among others, that she owns. So it makes sense that she would release an entire collection dedicated to black eyeliner. Bobbi’s “Choose Your Black” is like a menu of personas. An eyeliner suited to match your state of mind, or your schedule.
Let’s meet the line-up.
The Classic. Like the grey t-shirt of eyeliner, Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner never goes out of style. Impossible to mess up, beginners and pros alike rely on this formula.
The Artist. You will literally paint your makeup on with Bobbi’s new and limited edition Kohl Cake Liner. Get your brush a little wet and then dab it in the compact and build up the product to a consistency you like. I like to create an intense paste and do that whole tightline thing. It’s just like art class, but the masterpiece is your eyes. Bonus, this stuff has SERIOUS lasting power.
The Rocker. Indulge your inner baddie with Bobbi Brown Kohl Eyeliner (limited edition). Meant to be smudged and sexy, a few swipes of this Kohl (don’t forget the waterline!) and you’ve gone from day to nightlife. Better make plans! We find the Kohl is also excellent layered under eyeshadows.
The Over-Scheduled. a.k.a. Us on most days. When Bobbi first released the Long-Wear Eye Pencils, we were straight giddy. All the benefits of the original but in a time-friendly format. For the always busy woman, this option is quick and portable.
Bobbi Brown “Choose Your Black” was released with Bobbi’s holiday collection. Available now!
Sundays are for catching up on the DVR, spa-ing at home and window shopping online. The collection I’ve been e-browsing all day is none other than Bobbi Brown’s Holiday Gift Guide. Yes, already. Bobbi Brown does holiday oh so well. We have this overwhelmingly need every year to treat ourselves and gift others with her limited edition eye and lip palettes. A.K.A. the annual palette pull. It’s like a magnet or something. I’m particularly obsessing over the Rich Caviar Eye Palette. Smooth neutrals get me every time, and that Olive Sparkle Eye Shadow is screaming WEAR ME. The palette options run the gamut, from the palm-sized Atomic Pink Lip & Eye Palette to the double decker Caviar & Oyster Palette. It’s easy to get lost in palette wonderland, but Bobbi snuck in a few other surprises. The Powder Pearl Eye Trio is a new item, a pearly powder in a tube. The colors look stunning. And Bobbi is launching an EXTRA Hand Cream next month. Love that the EXTRA line is expanding!
What catches your eye? While you craft your lists, check out Bobbi’s new Facebook app, Pretty Powerful Beauty Stories. This app is everything we love about Bobbi and beauty, bringing her Pretty Powerful campaign to everyone. You can build your own story and share. There’s prizes to be had, too, which is icing on the cake. Check it out here.
Big beauty news announced this morning! Katie Holmes is now the official face of Bobbi Brown — the first-ever celeb face for the brand. According to Bobbi, “Katie Holmes epitomizes the modern ‘Bobbi woman’… I think of her as the modern day Ali McGraw, who I have always admired. When I met her, I thought she was a natural fit for my brand, and felt an instant connection with her.”
In turn, Katie says, “Bobbi is exceptional and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is a company that we, as women, all turn to because it is makeup that is very accessible and makes you feel pretty. Makeup is powerful and I am thrilled to be a part of this brand”
GREAT choice, Bobbi! Newly single (/free!) Katie is the perfect choice! Beginning in Spring 2013, look out for print ads, counter displays and editorial features with BB + KH. Also, Bobbi will be the lead makeup artist at the Spring/Summer 2013 Holmes & Yang Fashion Show, the line founded by Katie Holmes and celebrity stylist Jeanne Yang.
The newest BB cream to hit the American market comes courtesy of our beloved Bobbi Brown. BB creams are true multi-taskers! They prime, treat, conceal, hydrate and protect in one fell swoop and can shave precious minutes off your morning makeup routine.
This BB cream provides sheer to medium coverage that’s so lightweight you almost forget you have it on. It also leaves skin with a nice luminescent glow. The cream has a thinner texture than some of the other BB creams on the market but that’s part of what makes it so much easier to blend. Of course there is also UVA/UVB ray protection in the form of SPF 35. It’s a nice healthy dose of SPF, don’t you think?
Topping off one of the things I love about summer is the beach. Sure, we may not have an ocean in Chicago, but we have Lake Michigan and beaches with the city’s skyline as a backdrop. Take that, coasties! However, the actual beach does not smell nearly as good as Bobbi Brown’s Beach Fragrance. Truly summer in a bottle. It’s not so literal in its interpretation of “beach,” instead is a light blend of jasmine, sea spray and mandarin. If there was a smell to define the carefree attitude of summer, that’s Bobbi Beach. Basically, we strive to live the life this scent makes us feel we should be living.
As part of Bobbi’s Miami Collection, she released a Beach Shimmering Fragrance Oil. I know, RIGHT? Just looking at the pretty pink bottle with its sparkles makes me excited! I resist the urge to douse my entire body in this and instead pump a few dabs on my inner arm and then rub my arms together to spread it around. It’s an extra boost of moisture on my arms and I love the subtle sparkles. The intoxicating scent of Beach lasts for about six hours and brings me immense happiness when I’m doing all of the things an adult has to do in the summer (like work!)
One of my favorite Bobbi Brown collections ever was Beach Club from summer 2010. The reason? Long Wear Cream Shadow in Shore. It’s a very basic pale nude cream shadow but one of the best eye bases ever made. It’s the simple things in life that stick with me. And now Shore’s slightly more shimmery twin, Nude Beach, has emerged in Bobbi’s Miami Collection! Bobbi released four more new shades of LWCS, including the cool brown Bronze Sugar, bronzy Copper and pale gold Candlelight. These are a dream for neutral lovers and sure to be staples for any woman.
Nude Beach is one of those shades that I love. It’s a “swipe and go” but last all day, which is the perfect kind of makeup. I find myself wearing this with everything — on its own and especially under other eyeshadows. The cool shimmer in Bronze Sugar is made for blue eyed girls. It’s got a twinge of taupe-iness that is really exciting, and it is the kind of color I wear all over the lids with a coat of mascara and that’s it. Summer beauty is all about ease and simplicity, and I can’t think of anything more easy (and long lasting!) than Bobbi’s Long Wear Cream Shadows.
What past Bobbi collection is your favorite? Any other Beach Club fanatics?
Bobbi Brown brings it with her summer Miami Collection, inspired by the fresh look you get at the beach. Naturally, she included some very beach-ready products. None more essential than the Treatment Lip Shine SPF 15, which Bobbi graciously added four new shades of for summer. The four shades, Pink Seashell, Sunset, Orchid Pink and Peach Sorbet, are brilliant on the lips. They manage to give off a carefree, summery vibe when you wear them. I haven’t really logged any beach time yet this year, but wearing these puts me there in spirit. I think these would make one covet-worthy foursome, but sadly, they’re sold individually.
Peach Sorbet might be my favorite of the bunch, but Orchid Pink and its lavender hues are super flattering. Sunset has a copper tint, and makes me look super bronzed (not at all in a Tan Mom kinda way, thankfully). Pink Seashell is a beauty, but seems like a color I might already have a lot of. While I can see myself burning through a tube fast, I give major kudos to Bobbi for the formula. We get tons of moisture from cocoa and shea butters, jojoba, apricot kernel and avocado oils, and some Peptide and Vitamin C treatment mixed in to prevent future sun damage and stimulate collagen production. Each will run you $23, but we deem them worthy of a splurge!
