Before I really got into makeup (aka before blogging), I never wore blush… I figured my skin had enough redness so why add to it? It was one of those “once in awhile” things. I tend to go dark with my hair in the fall and I was a full-on “embrace your pastiness” gal until I realized I looked way too pale. I’ve told you this before, I’m not really a bronzer person (I only own 1 or 2 now) but blush is now here to stay… especially a cream blush. It is practically obscene how many cream blushes I own.
My current go-to blush is the new Benefit Majorette Booster Blush, a cream-to-powder matte blush designed to be worn underneath your favorite blush or on it’s own for a pretty peach flush. And will you look at this packaging? Benefit can always be counted on for its gorgeous packing. It’s love at first blush on every level for me.
It’s time for a beauty year in review. Trust us, picking just 10 favorites for an entire year was no easy feat. We discovered a plethora of new brands and fell in love with so much. These 10 favorites are the products we use constantly. The ones that really stand out and we would buy over and over again!
That smile on my face is most definitely a result of the cheer that the tri-colored Benefit Fine One One brings me. Benefit’s latest cheeky cheek and lip product contains three stripes of sheer color – coral, watermelon and shimmering pale pink – that blend together for a soft pink or deeper cherry hue. Part blush, part highlighter and even lip color. And I actually apply it directly to my cheek from the tube — a very big deal for me. I’d say 97.2% of the time, I use a fluffy brush to apply cream products. But Fine One One is best applied directly from that gorgeous rose gold tube, highlighter facing up and onto the cheek in a slight upward swoop. The cream to powder texture is so forgiving and it blends beautifully. I’m in love with the healthy pinch of color this gives cheeks and even happier with the staying power (8+ hours!) Though, if you’re like me, you’ll be popping a smile and swiping Fine One One throughout the day.
Our friends at Birchbox have the most helpful video showing how to apply it featuring Bene-babe Maggie Ford Danielson. A must-watch before you try this! Benefit Fine One One, $30, officially launches later this month, but you can pre-order now on Birchbox and snag a sample of Benefit Porefessional with any $25 purchase with code BBLOVESBENEFIT.
Holler at us if you’re dialing up Fine One One when it launches!
Our holiday gift guide continues with the perfect presents for The Party Girl in your life. The girl who has plans every night of the week and craves sparkly things. These gifts are part glam on the go and 100% fabulous. And naturally, we want them all!
Inspired by the British “holiday cracker” tradition, Jouer Sparkle & Pop is filled with all sorts of treats, including a cocktail ring, beauty fortune, mini champagne bubbles and one of three potential deluxe Jouer samples. The latter is a surprise — the Body Butter, Essential Lip Enhancer or Glisten Lip Gloss will be inside. Jouer smartly packaged these in a value pack of four, in addition to singles, so you can split up for gifting.
Objects are smaller than they appear with the Bobbi Brown ‘Uber Nude’ Lip & Eye Palette but it has literally everything you need for a night out. We love these classic neutral shades — this is perfect for packing in a clutch or on a trip!
How fabulous would it be to pull this sparkly Stephanie Johnson SNAP Mirror out of your bag? A portable mirror is such a functional gift and the sparkles make it that much more fun. Everything Stephanie Johnson makes is perfection.
The Party Girl is always known for fabulous hair, right? We can’t think of a better duo than Living Proof Prime andamp2, the brand’s newest styling launches. Prime acts like a face primer but for your hair strands and amp2 creates texture and major volume with the help of a tiny molecule that creates friction and space on every strand.
Leave it to the folks at Benefit to come up with the yet another must-have holiday kit. Benefit She’s So…Jetsethas everything for The Party Girl — like Life on the A List Lip Gloss and They’re Real Mascara, which lengthens lashes like nobody’s biz.

Mark your calendars and click here tomorrow morning, beginning at 9am PST, to snag an early preview of Benefit’s Instant Beauty Kits. They’ll be coming to Sephora as an exclusive in August, but Benefit is allowing fans access for 48 hours. I got a sneak sneak peek and all I can say is WOW. Major props to the brilliant product development team at Benefit. These kits might just be my fav yet. The Lip and Cheek Instant Beauty Kits pair High Beam, a Tint (Bene, Posie or Cha Cha), a Box o’ Powder and the matching Ultra Plush Lip Gloss. For only $28 — can you even stand it? The sizes are deluxe, so you get plenty of product for your dollars.
In addition, Benefit has a new Complexion Kit featuring, for the first time in a kit, Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation. Those will be available for $30 during the Flash Sale as well.
Benefit will launch a new fragrance this July, See & Be Seen Sasha. Like all of the Benefit fragrances that make up their “Crescent Row” collection, Sasha has the best packaging. Really, it doesn’t get any cuter than these Benefit boxed fragrances. Do you remember the Benefit minis that were released last holiday? Regardless of whether I like the scent, I find myself wanting to have a Crescent Row community in my own house. It turns out, though, that Sasha smells pretty phenom. It’s a very girly scent — Benefit describes it as a daring and captivating floral.
It is a burst of floral right away, and then I immediately notice the jasmine. It works well with my skin, and I like these notes. Surprisingly, I don’t pick up much of the amber or vanilla. I thought I knew how would this smell reading the notes, but it’s actually more floral than I expected. Daring and girly, gotta love it!
Also, just spotted this ADORABLE Crescent Row Stationery Tin on BenefitCosmetics.com, which is available for purchase, or free right now with a $40 purchase (enter code WRITEME at checkout). SO CUTE overload!
Benefit Box o’ Powders are an addiction we never want to quit. Naturally, our hearts are going all pitter patter over Benefit’s new blush-inspired Ultra Plush Lip Gloss. The names you know and love, Dallas, Coralista, and Bella Bamba, now in a tube of gloss.
Launching officially this July, Benefit Ultra Plush Lip Gloss ($16 apiece) will be available in six familiar shades:
Bella Bamba, sheer, bright watermelon
Coralista, sheer coral
Dallas, dusty rose
Dandelion, pearly pink
Hoola, shimmering golden nude
Sugarbomb, shimmering pinky nude
Major plus: Packaging (doesn’t get any CUTER!)
Bonus points: Flavor (a light fruity aroma), and feels plush on the lips (as the name would indicate)
Semi-bummer: About 1-2 hours before you need a re-app
These are available right now on HSN, in tandem with their Box o’ Powder companions for just $29. You can catch the Benefit gals on-air today as well — (eastern times) 6/13 at 6pm, 11pm and 6/14 at 6am!
Earlier this week, the folks at Birchbox took Chicago by storm, hosting events for subscribers and beauty lovers in the Windy City at the Benefit Boutique on Armitage and at Maxine’s Salon. When Birchbox comes to town, beautiful things happen! Birchbox night at Benefit included bubbly, brows, Sweet Mandy B’s treats and tons of those familiar pink boxes. Benefit has been a partner of Birchbox since the beginning, and I can recall getting several Benefit goodies in Birchboxes over the yearh and a half I’ve been subscribing.
Love this display of Hervana!
Benefit’s brow services are the best in town. Did you know that you get a free brow shaping on your birthday? With mine coming up in July, I’ll be sure to make a trip back! La-La at the Armitage location is the best (she’s in the top picture at right) and she gave my brows some major TLC. I think her words were, “Wow, girl, you needed this.”
The team of artists were on standby for makeovers and touch-ups as well, as was Benefit’s new super hero, SpyGal. With her secret weapon, The Porefessional, SpyGal helps minimize pores and perfect complexions everywhere. Benefit actually teamed with Marvel Entertainment to create a SpyGal comic book — which is so cool. Think she could hang with the Avengers crew?!
If you haven’t yet used The Porefessional, now’s the perfect time. I love this product in the summer. I carry a mini with me (thanks, Birchbox!) at all times and use it to refresh my T-zone and under eye area at the end of the day. I also like to mix a bit into my TM or foundation (it’s perfect with Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow!) to help smooth everything out.
With the purchase of a ticket to the B + B event ($35), we got a $30 voucher. I’m all stocked up on SpyGal’s weapon of choice, so I picked up a new tube of They’re Real (when I repeat buy – you know it’s a good product!) and Benefit’s Blush Brush. I’ve been wanting to try their new brushes for awhile, and I’m really liking this one because it is smaller. I have a little face and sometimes large brushes spread too much product on my cheeks.
Benefit’s newest kit, inspired by the upcoming release of Snow White and the Huntsman, channels a fairytale. Benefit Rare Beauty contains five pieces to help you create rosy cheeks and lips, skin as pure as snow and lashes black as night. I don’t know about you, but I’m more about Benefit’s take on Snow White than I am actually seeing the movie! Perhaps its the idea of watching Kristin Stewart run tortured through the woods for a few hours that doesn’t exactly have me running to the box office. But, I’ll happily wear Benetint and High Beam any day of the week!
Benefit included a full-size BADgal Lash Mascara and The POREfessional as well as a deluxe sample of the famed Benetint and a mini High Beam. But the real treat is this lavender and silver makeup case it all comes packaged up in.
Right? Isn’t it cute? It’s very functional and sturdy, too! This bag and the full size The POREfessional (retails for $29) totally sell this for me. You can snag it online or at Sephora for a limited time for $45.
Who needs spring break when you have 70 degree temps in Chicago and this awesome kit from Benefit? Not me. I’m pretty satisfied with no vacay on the agenda. Unless a weekend trip to Minneapolis counts? Benefit Cabana Glam is the latest “best of” compilation, featuring seven products to bronze and brighten your look. I love these kits. They’re just so adorable and functionable with the minis.
Your Cabana Glam faux bronze comes courtesy of:
Some Kind-A-Gorgeous (in medium; mini!)
Hoola Bronzing Powder (mini brush included)
Eyeshadow Palette in Peach Fizz
Also, when you’re done with the palette you can remove the tray and save the box as a keepsake. Adorable!
