What's New in Beauty: Jouer Founder's Beauty Secrets, R29 DIY Nail Art and Kiehl's Giveaway

HONORED. In the current issue of LA Confidential, Jouer founder and creative director Christina Zilber dishes on her beauty secrets and her favorite blogs for makeup inspiration, mentioning Product Girl (and one of the most clever girls we know in the blogosphere, Beauty Blogging Junkie). [LA Confidential]

If you can’t get enough of the Refinery 29 DIY nail features, you’re in luck.  R29 teamed with Color Club to launch “Girl Crush,” a six-piece polish set equipped with a nail brush and instructions to create your own DIY nail designs. [Refinery 29]

Kiehl’s wants to know “What makes you radiant” and is willing to reward you for it. 100 fans who answer that question on the brand’s Clearly Corrective tab on Facebook will be entered to win a full-size bottle of the new Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution. [Kiehl’s Facebook]

I always love Reese on the red carpet. Somehow, she always makes me want to get bangs. Her makeup at the “This Means’ War” premiere was done by Avon. Love the subtle cat eye courtesy of Avon’s Glimmersticks and True Color Smokey Eyes Quad.

Hannah Mania

Avon's Hannah Montana Line In case you haven’t seen Miley Cyrus’ face on every magazine cover, TV commercial, DVD, or gossip blog, now you can stare at her in your very own home. Disney teamed up with Avon to create a bath and body collection featuring Hannah Montana herself. Avon is targeting tweens and fans of the show with some playful products that are fun and girly. The packaging features Cyrus’ face on every label, along with pink and purple butterflies and flowers.

The comprehensive line features a yummy green apple-scented 2 in 1 and Shampoo and Detangler, Vitamin E and Aloe Shower Gel, Hand Cream and Vanilla Lip Balm. It is reasonably priced, ranging from $.99 to $3.99. I wonder when Hannah Montana the Perfume will be out.

Shockingly Fat Lashes

I am a self-proclaimed lash connoisseur. I’ve tried just about every mascara on the market in an attempt to turn my limp, fine, blonde eyelashes into a thick, full, long, curly lashes without having to get them glued on or surgically implanted.

Avon Supershock Mascara Recently, I was fortunate enough to try Avon’s Supershock Mascara. Perhaps they call it Supershock because you will be in shock when you see that the formula actually lives up to its claims! Avon describes the product, “Unique microfibers instantly expand and plump lashes to larger-than-life proportions…for head-turning drama in a flash. Up to 12x more volume…in a single step.”

What sets this mascara apart from the rest is that it uses the same great rubber bristles that we have seen and loved in mascaras like Chanel’s Inimitable and Max Factor’s Lash Perfection. Yet this time the brush is, well how shall we put this lightly… obese. The fat brush combined with a great formula creates a mascara that will not let you down. It separates lashes, provides immense buildable volume that will not clump, flake or smudge. You’ll wish your mascara would put on the pounds.

Dial Up the Exfoliation

I love products that get you involved and let you have some control over what you’re doing to your skin. With it’s dial system, Avon’s ANEW Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion System does just that.

Avon's ANEW Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion System This is an at home microdermabrasion product with four levels of exfoliation. The product contains two parts, one part is made up of fine grains and the other contains larger grains. Every two weeks you turn the dial at the base of the product to use more and more of the larger grains.

I’ve been using this product for about 8 weeks now and so far, this is a product I’m going to keep using. I’m almost 30 (still freaks me out to say that) so thankfully, I don’t have a lot going on in the wrinkle department but I do feel that my skin is much smoother and softer due to this product. It even seems to have minimized my pores. It also rinses off clean without any waxy residue, which is important to me… I don’t want to have to follow this up with a cleanser. I don’t think I’ve ever met a microdermabrasion product that I didn’t like and this one is no exception.

I think this would make a great microdermabrasion product for those that are new to it. I have a whole window sill full of these products in my shower just because I like a varying amount of exfoliation… sometimes I need more and sometimes I need less. While I can’t bring myself to ditch everything else, like my beloved Astara Daily Refining Scrub, for those of you without a full window sill, this product is like a whole spectrum of products in one.

Cynthia Rowley for Avon

Cynthia Rowley for Avon Cynthia Rowley and Avon have teamed up to introduce a new line of makeup for the fall season. I loved her collaboration with Target when she introduced a house wares collection called “Swell” and I love this new paring as well. The collection is perfect for this season, featuring shades of purples, plums and grays. The products include eyeshadow quads, lipsticks, glosses, face powder, nail polish and even a brush set with case. Cynthia puts her signature quirky touch into the packaging, which is black, adorned with colorful floral sketches. Avon is working to collaborate with other designers, possibly to revamp the name and bring in a hipper, more fashion-conscious crowd. Check out the line at Avon’s site.
