The Hinge Textured Leather Hobo is my newest handbag acquisition. I deliberated over this purchase for weeks and luckily I found it on sale at Nordstrom (not to mention double points on my MOD card). I asked everyone I knew what they thought of it because sometimes I’m the kind of gal who needs a positive endorsement before I buy something. Almost everyone said they liked it. I’m not sure if they were honest… one beauty blogging friend told she was not a fan. Either way, I decided I liked it enough to buy it in brown. 🙂
I am completely in love with this bag’s texture. It has this industrial look to it that I really, really like. It’s also pretty damn big, big enough for me to carry all those “just in case” items that I like to keep with me every day. I read the measurements before I clicked on the Place Order button but I guess I just envisioned it being smaller than it actually is. That’s totally OK though because the next time I get on an airplane, this will be the bag I bring on board with me!
In case you haven’t noticed by my pictures here and on Twitter, I’ve developed a bit of a ring fetish. I have been slowly building my collection of cocktail rings for the last few months. I do not own really expensive pieces, the rings I have been buying are usually around $50 and under.
There is one kind of ring that I have really wanted but just haven’t found the right one yet, a double ring. Is that what you call it? All I know is I want one. It’s hard to find the right one for me though. Some are too simple and don’t give me the effect I want then some are too big and overbearing. This Jessica Simpson Glam Garden Double Leaf Knuckle Ring at Macy’s is just right. I love the leaf design. It’s simple but the double ring action makes it a bit more unique. I am in love… and I never thought it would be with something from Jessica Simpson.
I first discovered Tacha Aburatorigami Blotting Papers in the September Birchbox, and savored each sheet until they were gone. Some time passed, and I decided I needed these to be on my person at all times — and they are the obvious Beauty VIP for me this week.
These are the most elegant blotting papers I’ve encountered – they’re even flecked with real gold leaf and are all-natural and oil-absorbing rock stars. We have Japanese royalty to thank for that – during Imperial times, handmade paper was used to protect gold and silver as it was hammered into decorative gold leaf and Geishas used the leftover papers, flecked with precious metals, to keep their skin matte.
For $12, you’ll get 30 sheets – plus some loyalty points on Birchbox!
Of my vast collection of brushes, one of my favorites is easily E.L.F.’s Studio Powder Brush. It even surpasses some of my beloved MAC and Bobbi Brown face brushes. The bristles are soft and gentle but so incredibly dense that it is the ultimate powder brush. It never sheds and holds it form perfectly. It’s like a kabuki but with a flat top. My favorite use for this brush is to apply MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. It helps make it “one” with my skin. It’s also good at blending out other face powders. And the icing on the cake? It costs $3. It’s cheaper than Carla’s daily latte fix! You can find the E.L.F’s Studio Brushes at Target or online.
Tweezerman is a trusted brand in my book, they make my favorite pair of tweezers and my makeup bag favorite, the petite manicure set. When I saw the Tweezerman Sole Mates Foot File and Smoother in Sephora recently, I snapped it up immediately… surely they improved on the whole PedEgg idea, right?
Well, yes and no. The Sole Mates Foot File and Smoother is a two-piece stainless steel micro-file and a finishing file that fit together. The design of the micro-file and finishing file is great, that is a huge plus in its favor. I love the way they fit together and the magnets in each piece help them stay together. Each piece is sleek and much easier to use than the PedEgg, in my opinion. It is easier to grip and fits much better in my hands.
While the micro-file does the job as intended, the finishing file side leaves a little to be desired for me. Unfortunately, dry heels are just a fact of life for me and I need a file with a little more oomph to it. The finishing file is good for smoothing over areas you just passed over with the micro-file if your heels are not as damaged but if you’re looking to do a little more than that, you might want to bring out a grittier foot file.
Have you tried this Tweezerman Sole Mates Foot File & Smoother? What did you think? Let us know in the comments.
YSL’s Solaris Collection for summer gives me the blues, in a very blissful, tropical way. It all started with this image of the Lumière Aquarésistant Water Resistant Cream Eyeshadow in Riviera Blue. Of all the blues that I’ve seen this summer, this is the standout for me. I think it’s a perfect shade to pat on the lid or smudge across the lower lash line. Yeah, I’ve definitely got the YSL blues.
Now, I find myself attracted to blue everything. Like this sweater from Banana Republic. I picked this up over Memorial Day weekend and it’s the perfect summer sweater. I love the ombre effect.
And this necklace from Anthropologie is officially on my must-have list. I think it would look great with Riviera Blue and a white shirt.
I love a big chunky watch, and I’m gravitating towards this Fossil one in blue.
I also grabbed these Steve Madden sandals at Nordstrom recently. I love them! They seem to go with everything. And of course they are a perfect shade of turquoise.
YSL’s Solaris collection is available at counters and Sephora and I urge you to check out Riviera Blue. It’s so pretty and very wearable even for those who don’t step outside the neutral zone. And it’s limited edition! The collection features several new, permanent shades of Gloss Pur and another, also permanent, shade of Lumière Aquarésistant in Golden Sands.
We’d also be interested in hearing about your color of the season. Let us know what it is, and your inspiration!
Stila has a very cool promotion going on right now with its makeup player, which made waves when it launched due to its functionality as a vanity, makeup bag and video and music player. Until now, it came with a pre-determined array of Stila products but now you have the option to create your own! It’s simple. Go to Stila’s wesbite, add $70 worth of Stila product to your shopping cart and enter code MUPLAYER at checkout and the makeup player will automatically appear in your order at no additional cost.
What would you add to your makeup player? I’d definitely go for some of the value sets – the Barbie Loves Stila Smudge Pot trio is still available for $20 and the It Girl Palette with three shimmering neutrals (kitten included!) is only $10. And if you haven’t checked out any of Stila summer, this is a great opportunity. Smudgesticks anyone? And Raspberry Crush is a summer must-have for us!
As much as I love my beauty products, I also love beautiful accessories and bags to put them in! Stephanie Johnson makes some of the best, and now through Sunday, June 13, her bags are 40% off on www.StephanieJohnson.com with code sjfriends at checkout. They’re definitely pricier than your average makeup bag, which makes this discount so amazing. May I suggest the ML Traveler or the Gidget Compact Brush Case?
Before I left for New York Fashion Week, I was obsessed with finding a nice handbag to take with me. I ended up getting this Nordstrom pleated satchel in an off-white shade (which I really do love!) but last night I was browsing Nordstrom online and saw a bag that is making me put a plan into action that my wallet can live with. I’m thinking that this Marc by Marc Jacobs Flash Leola leather hobo is just what I need for this summer. Add turquoise (Pantone’s color of the year by the way), zippers and hobos together and for me, it’s a match made in heaven.
I’m definitely on board with this handbag, are you? What kind of handbag do you love? I just love hobos and satchels. Let us know what type of handbag you love in the comments.
If I were to only receive one gift each year at the holidays, it would be a stocking. That’s sort of a trick answer since stockings are filled with tons of goodies…but no need to get technical here! My mom used to (and still does) give the best stockings. Everything from socks to nail polish to candy and jewelry. I just love getting ’em and filling ’em for others.
Here are some beauty stuffers I’ll be putting in stockings this year (or asking for in mine!)
Korres lip butters get a lot of buzz in the beauty circles and for good reason. They smell great (Jasmine is my fav!), impart a little color and are so luxe and soft on the lips.
Available at Bath & Body Works, this orange scented, sugar-based exfolilating scrub works wonders on your hands in under a minute. I think I first tried this item after I got it as a stocking stuffer – and I’ve been hooked since.
OPI has a ton of great holiday gift sets featuring their beautiful “Holiday Wishes” color collection. There are three different variations of this set, Orna-ment for you, and it’s completely adorable. (Hint, hint…anyone reading this that stuffs my stocking?!) I’ve seen these at Ulta, but I think they’re disappearing fast and furiously.
The face kits that MAC released with their holiday collection this year are so cool. They feature a blush, a highlight and a beauty powder. I actually put this on my Christmas list to my husband’s parents!
Makeup bags! Specifically the Film Noir Ivory Diamond bags from Sephora. One of my favorite makeup bags ever is the Sephora clutch and this pattern and style is so glam. It comes in red and black too!
What’s your stocking stance? Any stuffers on your wish list/give list that you want to share? The more ideas the merrier!
