Don't Be a Makeup Snob and Check Out These BHCosmetics Palettes

I hate to admit this but I am a makeup snob, chances are you are too… at least that’s the assumption I’m making right now. When you’re a makeup snob, you tend to overlook blockbuster type palettes because you think there is no way in hell those eyeshadows are worth your time. Had I not been asked to try these palettes from BHCosmetics, I would have never tried them and I would have missed out on these gems. Let’s make sure you don’t make the same mistake! :)

My first palette discovery from BHCosmetics is this Jenni Rivera for BHCosmetics palette. This palette was a collaboration between Jenni Rivera and BHCosmetics. I didn’t know who Jenni was when I received the palette but then suddenly she was everywhere! She’s a famous Latin singer and has her own reality TV show, in case you didn’t know. She made this palette for her fans and filled it with 36 eyeshadows and 6 blushes in a variety of finishes for less than $20, it’s actually on sale right now.

Like I said, I’m a bit of a makeup snob. I expected these eyeshadows and blushes to be chalky and lacking in pigment but that wasn’t the case at all. Instead what I found is that these eyeshadows are soft and silky to the touch and blend really well. Of course I put these eyeshadows and blushes to the test. On my super oily lids with my favorite eyeshadow primer, I got about 5 hours of wear before creasing set in. That may not sound like a lot to you but trust me, for me that is huge. Short of getting my eyeshadow tattooed on, I have a hard time getting anything to stay put on these lids for long. I had better luck with the blushes, fading only started setting in towards the end of my day.

With that said, a few tweaks to this palette could make it even better. The eyeshadows themselves do leave a teensy bit of fallout in their wake but that’s an issue that’s easy to resolve and really minor when you factor in the cost of this palette and all of the product that you are getting. Other than that, a mirror spanning the entire width and height of the cover of the palette would be perfection. These are minor complaints in the grand scheme of things.

The other palette I received was this 120 Color Eyeshadow Palette 5th Edition, a blockbuster palette if I ever saw one. This palette happens to be on sale as well. It is normally priced at $34.95 but right now you can get it for less than $25… quite the steal if you ask me.

Just like the shadows in the Jenni palette, the formula is good… soft, smooth, long lasting and blends well. In terms of color options, it has plenty of shades that lend themselves well towards a smokey eye and an natural neutral look. If this is your wheelhouse, you have everything you need in this palette right here. There are some brighter options, pinks and purples give this palette some variety but it is lacking blues and greens. A few bright shades of green and blue would have been a great addition to this palette though.

The other thing about this palette is that it is a stacked palette. This photo shows one tray above the other as if it was a folding palette but really, one tray is stacked on top of the other. As a professional makeup artist, I can see how taking out a try and using it without the rest of palette could be convenient but as a casual user of the palette, it seems a bit off to me. It could easily crash to the ground this way. Since you would still have to hold the other part since the bottom tray is part of the palette’s case, having the 2 trays connected just makes more sense. Then again, factoring in the cost of the palette and everything you get in it, this is a minor issue but one you should be aware of.

If you’re looking to update your beauty arsenal, I would definitely suggest checking out BHCosmetics. The eyeshadows and blushes are great but they have great budget friendly options for practically all your needs. Have you checked them out before? Would love to hear from you if you have!

  1. Oh I’m absolutely a makeup snob! Even after reading this I still find it hard to consider trying this even though it is so affordable. It’s so hard to break away from my prejudices!
