The Product Girl Stash – 5 Years Later

This weekend my baby turned 5 years old… and by my baby, I mean Product Girl. Five years ago I thought it would be a good idea to start blogging about the products I was picking up at Nordstrom and Sephora. I didn’t know that this would take me to Paris, New York and Los Angeles but I’m so thankful that it did and for the amazing people I’ve met along the way. I can’t imagine life without it now.

I thought it would be fun to show you how things have changed for me in terms of my collection. Five years ago I had a 3’ storage cart holding my products and everyone I knew thought it was crazy for having so much makeup. This started before Product Girl was “born” and when I posted FOTD in the LiveJournal MAC community… back when words like “limited edition” didn’t mean as much.

As you can see, now things are completely different. Beauty products occupy space in almost every corner of my apartment and the name of the game now is downsizing! I’m even keeping the products in mind as I furnish my new apartment. Yes, it’s a tad out of control. I’m starting to go through everything and toss out what I don’t use and what’s old but sometimes that’s hard to do. I keep thinking “Oh I’ll use it one day…”

So how about you? How big is your stash?

  1. My stash is slowly getting to where I’m going to need a 3 drawer plastic storage unit to house my stuff! Congratulations on making it to five years! I just celebrated my one year anniversary and I admire people who can keep up in the beauty blogging biz this long! 🙂

  2. congrats! I’m having probs viewing the video – and I wanna see your current collection! I’m in Australia, so I don’t know if that’s got anything to do with the problem? Do you think you could post the video on youtube or facebook – cos i want to see it.

  3. hi Carla – don’t worry, it came good and I’ve just watched the video. Impressive collection! Sad thing is, my collection is almost as big, and i don’t have a good excuse like you do (ie blame it on the blog). You know your collections getting out of hand when you realised that even if you stopped buying makeup/skincare/hair products today, you still wouldn’t go thru everything and use it all up if you lived to be 100! Although that’s not going to stop me doing a big Sephora haul when they have the F&F sale next month (have to just do 1 or 2 big hauls a year from the US, as I have to use a parcel forwarding service – although everything is so much cheaper in the US that it is worth paying the high shipping costs!).

  4. Next step for us product junkies: Our own makeup room in our house!!! (my husband doesn’t really need space, does he???). lol

  5. My stash is not as impressive as yours, but I have enough to occupy every space I found in my flat. My friends already told me that I could open a beauty product store… I will have to tell them to take a look at what you have 🙂

  6. Carla, that is wonderful! Congrats! 5 years is a nice milestone in Blogging.
Glad you love it and that it has expanded your professional horizons. You Go Girl!

  7. Wonderful stash – I’m trying to catch up with you! BTW, where did you get your bins from, I SO need something like that! xx
