It’s no doubt that Urban Decay’s eye shadow palettes are popular in the beauty community. They’ve got a knack for design some amazing palettes from their book of shadows to the infamous Naked and Naked2 palettes. One of my first ever palettes was from Urban Decay (Show Pony palette, love!) and I’ve been hooked on UD since. While their are tons of neutral, everyday palettes, not many brands come out with a “smoked” type palette. I was excited to get my hands on Urban Decay’s Smoked palette and I definitely think this is something everyone could use in their makeup collection.
For $49, you get 10 pigmented and buttery shadows, a travel size Primer Potion, and a full size Perversion eyeliner. It comes in a zip-up package which prevents that fear of your palette every opening. Also inside, an mirror on the inside cover and room to store an eyeliner. Let’s take a closer look at each shade along with swatches.
As school was coming to an end and finals approached, I never did my hair. Ever. I’m talking straight out of bed and out the door. So it’s safe to say my hair’s much healthier and really should be thanking me for the two week vacation from my flat iron. But as soon as school ended, I found myself using heat again and not wanting to damage my nurtured ends, I stuck with a routine of using heat protectant.
Now I’m typically skeptical about heat protectants (bad, bad experiences) but I gave it a go with AG Hair’s Firewall having high hopes. It’s infused with argan and I think that’s what drew me to it the most, considering argan oil has done wonders to my hair in the past. I gave it bonus points for being in an aerosol can, spray bottles tend to use too much product and leave my hair wet.
When I use Firewall, I spray some product from about my ears down, but mainly on my ends. Then I just go about my routine with straightening my hair. Unlike other protectants I’ve tried, this doesn’t leave my hair feeling dry or sticky, but instead silky and smooth. My hair stays straighter, longer, and even helps combat the undeniable frizz that comes with living in Seattle.
It’s a new year and us gals here at Product Girl decided to introduce a new monthly feature dishing on our favorite products from makeup, skin care, hair, and anything in between. We call it “Products on a Pedestal.” If you’re like me and love hearing people’s favs, check in at the end of every month to get the scoop. I’m kicking off the first edition!
To start, my favorite blush. Is it possible to talk too much about a single product? Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes are just so good! We’ve yet really talk about the color Exposed, though. It’s such a unique tan, plum color. My everyday, perfect blush.
A new obsession for me is highlighters (following in the footsteps of my sister and Laurie!) Current favorite? TheBalm’s Mary-Lou Manizer, such a cute name! The champagne shimmer is suitable for cheeks and eyes.
Now, since it is winter, had to mention my moisturizer. I’ve been using Benefit Total Moisture Facial Cream and let me tell you, ahh-mazing!! It smells incredible, doesn’t feel greasy and makes my skin so soft. It also isn’t too much for my oilier skin.
Mascaras are an obsession of mine, so I had to include one. I’ve been head over heels for the Tarte Gifted Mascara. That’s exactly what it is, gifted. Does it all – lengthening, separation and volume in just one coat. Hardly any mascaras are up to my liking with one coat! Clump and flake free, this is something to talk about.
Undereye circles are something pretty much every woman faces at some point. As a teenager up late at night studying and chatting with friends, waking up in the morning is not my favorite thing. But when I need a pick me up, I reach for my Garnier Skin Renew Anti Dark Circle Roller. Roll on a bit, blend, and I’m instantly (looking) more awake with laser sight!
Ruby Kisses is a new line to hit my makeup radar and it’s made quite an impression on me! I first tried the Ruby Kisses Eyeshadow Magic Primer, which has a familiar look to it, right? I rarely stray from using Urban Decay Primer Potion, but Ruby Kisses holds its own in the category. My eyeshadow lasts all day and night with the Magic Primer. Talk about ahhh-mazing! It also helped my shadows go on so much smoother and easier that I was blown away. I really learned to love this primer and now it’s in steady rotation. At under $5, this is great for my budget!
Another Ruby Kisses product that use on an almost regular basis is the HD Gel Liner ($3.99) in black. I like to use gel or cream liners (first fell for Urban Decay’s Cream Liner) because of the easy brush application. For me, it is much more precise and accurate then a pencil. The HD Gel liner is more creamy than a traditional gel, and the consistency helps it go on smooth. When I paired Ruby Kisses Magic primer with this liner, it didn’t budge.
I also gave Ruby Kisses Very Sexy Mascara a try. I have semi-short lashes and love mascaras that can thicken and add length, and that’s exactly what this mascara does! When I take my time and apply it right, wiggling and working from the root to the ends of my lashes, I get such full, long lashes that people have thought they were fake. I always get great compliments on my lashes when I wear this mascara and what better way to measure if a product is great than having people tell you how fantastic it looks?
For how great these products from Ruby Kisses wear (and the teenager friendly prices!), I will definitely repurchase in the future.
Lately I’ve been on the hunt for some new favorite lip products, but what makes finding such a good product even better is when you just happen to stumble upon it! I was checking out my local Nordstrom and I saw that they now have make up in their Brass Plum section. I was on the hunt for a pair of big, fun earrings, and instead found my latest favorite lip gloss.
It’s the NYX Cosmetics Mega Shine Lip Gloss. I’d never tried a NYX lip gloss before so I wasn’t sure what to expect so being the cautious shopper that I am, I only bought one. But as soon as I paid that $5.50 for it, I glossed up my lips with it for the first time and it was love at first use!
The pigmentation of these glosses is just right, and depending on which shade you get, can really go a long way and complete a look. The first shade I got was in Beautiful, then I went back to the bin and picked up Nude Peach, La-La, and Perfect. The consistency is exactly what I look for in a gloss, not to sticky or thick, just right. Officially one of my everyday glosses now.
